This book is Moiras story and it is the perfect companion to Digger and Harpers story. It is PG 13, sweet and fun. A perfect summer beach read. I always look forward to a trip to Gamble!

4.5 stars

Okay the first 60% of the book made me smile so hard 😭 it was amazing.
I guess after that, the plot kinda moved really fast, and it spiralled into the third act breakup in a disastrous way, lol. I was like "wait, what? They were good all along, and now they're being super mean to each other and wait, now they've ended the relationship?". I would have liked more wholesome relationship development and actual talking between the MCs rather than the whirlwind plot that led to the break-up. The final love confession was nice though, so it mostly made up for the intermediate sadness. All this being said, I'm definitely gonna go back and read book 1 of this series, as well as book 3 when it gets out!

TWs - husband/parent who died at sea, parent who left and died of drug overdose, parent who was an alcoholic, death of a grandparent/parental figure, mentions of cancer

~~ Thank you to the author, Xpresso Book Tours, and Netgalley for an advanced copy!

This was one of the cutest books I've read this year! If you like the friends-to-lovers trope and small-town romance, this book is for you! The story of a single mom is not a typical story for me; however, I like this one. Dialogues with her children were wonderful, hilarious and cute. It was especially sweet to read parts about Ethan's parents and Moira's children.
Ethan is a famous lawyer who doesn't want to be a lawyer and is trying to find inspiration for his future book. This book is very light and despite the fact that the action takes place in Alaska, it evokes warm feelings. Moira is a very strong woman inside; she is a widow and trying to give her children the best life that she can. Probably, this book ends so fast after the main conflict of this story and you just did not have time to understand how it all happened.
This book is about the path to love, about how sometimes we don't want to admit that we have feelings. I love every character in this book and can recommend it to you!
This is the second book in this series of rom coms but you could read it as a stand-alone.

Tired of dealing with his whiny, entitled clients, Los Angeles-based entertainment attorney Ethan Caplan has decided to take a 6-month sabbatical to pursue his lifelong dream of writing a novel. He'll be spending that time in the small town of Gamble, Alaska, the new home of his best friend, actress Harper Kennedy. He's sure there won't be anything to distract him in the tiny town - that is, until he meets Harper's future sister-in-law Moira Bishop. Between running the local diner, caring for her three young boys, and ensuring that their fixer-upper of a house doesn't fall down around them, single mom Moira has more than enough on her plate. The last thing she needs is a man to take care of too, though her brother seems determined to find her a date. Ethan, too, is determined to avoid relationships after his last girlfriend humiliatingly turned down his marriage proposal. He can't help being drawn to Moira and her boys, however, so when the opportunity to host them in Los Angeles presents itself, Ethan jumps at the chance. He hopes to show Moira that there's a chance for them to start a new life together as a family. Will he succeed, or will the glitz and glamour of his life in California prove to be too much for her?

I loved the way Ethan and Moira's relationship evolved from a sort of easy, teasing friendship into something more. They made an adorable family unit with her three sons, whose relationship with Ethan was also a highlight of the book. When everything started to go wrong while they were in California, it was honestly crushing. While I understood Moira's fears, I wish she hadn't been quite so mean and insulting in her rejection of Ethan. It's no wonder he was hurt and angry; he just wanted to do something nice for her and the boys and she threw it back in his face. That said, Ethan was stubborn too. He and Moira both needed to get over their fears and figure out a way to compromise in order to move forward together.

Overall, I loved this super cute, funny, and sweet story and highly recommend it for all contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans. I look forward to the next book in the series.

This writing duet is always a must-read (or a must-ask on NetGalley !) for me.

I don't know exactly how I missed the first installment of this new series but now I must read it too.

Single parents are always a touchy subject for me in romance novels, not as a single parent but just as a parent. Giving one or several kids to a main character cannot be just a pretext to twists, without flesh. And I think this was well-balanced here.

Moira is so well depicted as a widow mother who runs a diner. Truth be told, there mustn't be that many bosses in this world who really work 9 to 5 shifts, but... I let this go as I really, really liked Moira, and her boys, and Ethan, and Harper and Digger... ok stop ! Cuteness under the Alaskan sky, loved it !

If there's one thing I didn't understand, it's the title : what hate ?

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an eArc in exchange for an honest review.

What a fun read! I didn't read book one, so I went in completely blind. I absolutely adored Ethan. I completely felt his struggle to be a writer, and I enjoyed reading about his writing journey. I loved how he bonded with Moira's boys, and their shenanigans made me laugh. Also, I want to meet his mother. She sounds amazing,

I didn't love Moira as a character. I found her to be a bit whiney and ungrateful, and that her fight with Ethan at the end was incredibly blown up.

A Hate Like This follows single mother Moira who runs a diner in Alaska and Ethan. Ethan is an entertainment lawyer who wants to take some time off to write a book. So he chooses to go to Alaska. Ethan ends up getting a crush on Moira and will find any excuse to see her more. And soon Moira starts having feelings for him as well. But doesn't know if Ethan can fit into her life.

When I started reading this book I did not know that this book was the second book in a series. I did not read the first book. But that actually didn't matter. I feel like there were some callbacks to the first book ( I looked up the book to see what it was about), but you really did not need to read that book to read this one. I loved the small town vibes of this book. I loved Ethan and Moira's relationship. This was a really cute read.

Thank you NetGalley, the authors, and the publisher for the ARC of this book.

If you are interested in "single parent with hyperactive kids falls in love", this one is definitely for you!
A Hate Like This was an absolute delight for me and I enjoyed reading it. It has good character development and beautifully explained expressions! I loved how the author portrayed the character of Moira as a single mother of three rowdy boys. Ethan, on the other hand, is the charming character that you wouldn't want to miss reading about. Oh, and did I mention he is extremely rich?
I personally felt that Moira's and Ethan's love was rushed. All in all, after a hectic day reading this book was relaxing. Highly recommend if you are looking for something light and happy!!

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC!!

I read this book as a standalone but I think you better read it as series. (book 1: No Ordinary Hate)

Where the couple apparently meet.

This book has my laughing till I can't breathe.

We see the characters live, they have flaws and faults. (Which for me makes it so much realer).

But they grow and we are able to be a part of it.

We see Moira who is a mother of three boys. Owner of a dinner in Alaska. She lost her husband and life has been hard on her and her boys.

Then there is Ethan who is a very successful lawyer. He went to Alaska to be with his best friend before the wedding. Next to that, he takes a break to write his novel.

To not spoil too much, I will end this here, so be sure to check this book out.

This will be one of those book I read to get some comfort. Happy book.

This is a book where you forget you are reading and suddenly you are at the end of it.

I loved Ethan and Moira’s story. Their story in Alaska makes me want to visit. This single mom story and how love finds her is really cute. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC

I was so excited to read this since I fell in love with Gamble, AK in the last book with Harper and Digger. This one did not disappoint, although in true romance fashion, I wanted to smack both of them over the head for the problems they caused for themselves; a true sign that a book is so well written that it gets you completely caught up in the characters' lives and you want to smack them! I loved Ethan's parents and want a little more about them - maybe a prequel? Looking forward to the next in the series, which has already been announced so hopefully I won't have to wait too long.

In A Hate Like This two of the supporting characters from No Ordinary Hate get their chance to shine in the leading roles.

Moira is a hard working single mother of three boys and the owner of the only diner in the small town of Gamble, Alaska. (She’s also the sister of Digger and best friend of Harper...the leads from the previous book in the series.)

Ethan (Harper’s best friend from her life before moving to Gamble) is an entertainment lawyer burnt out on his job who wants nothing more than a little peace and quiet so he can try his hand at writing.

Though neither was really looking for love, things have a way of happening when you least expect it. I don’t want to give too much of the story away but I have to say I absolutely love this series. Though they were only supporting characters in the first book, I thought they were great then and was thrilled to see them get a chance in the spotlight. The attraction Ethan and Moira have for each other is believable and their attempt to secretly ’date but not date’ was cute and funny, especially when you add in Ethan’s visiting parents. And there are more than a few adorably heart warming scenes. (I can’t help but smile just thinking about the chapter where Ethan takes Harper’s five year old daughter for a pedicure only to get a talk on relationships from her.)

Seriously if you enjoy feel good romantic comedies this is a series you shouldn’t pass up. Whitney Dineen and Melanie Summers have created something truly special with this series and I can’t wait to see what they do next. Thanks so much to authors and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read and review an eARC of A Hate Like This.

If you think this is your typical rom-com, which it is, nope. It's so much more. Moira and Ethan made me smile, laugh and cry all over the place. Especially Moira. I could feel for her. I was rooting for her all the way and I'm so glad that she has Ethan now. I really enjoyed their story from the start till the end.

Entertainment lawyer Ethan takes a sabbatical in Alaska, writing a novel in hopes of changing careers. He quickly falls for widowed single mom Moira, the harried owner of the local diner. When they vacation in LA, she’s overwhelmed by his glamorous life there. Can he convince her they belong together?

Another winner from Dineen and Summers! Ethan and Moira are so sweet and likable, I couldn’t help rooting for them. I could relate to Moira’s independent streak, but I was happy when Harper told her to get over herself already. It’s one thing to want to stand on your own two feet, and another to shut people out of your life because you can’t accept help. Ethan was so great with her boys—he was exactly what they needed. An emotional, feel-good romance for those times when you need a smile.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an ARC of "A Hate Like This" by Whitney Dineen & Melanie Summers. It is scheduled to release today - September 8th, 2022. This is actually the second installment in a series, which I was unaware of, so I will have to go back and read the first one! I also noticed that these authors have other books and I will definitely will be reading others!

Overall, I rated this novel a 4.5/5 stars!

This novel follows Moira, an overworked, extremely tired & exhausted widowed mother of three young boys. Her brother Digger and his wife Harper are getting married soon - Moira is in charge of the wedding cake. She also owns the only diner in her small Alaskan town. Ethan is Harper's best friend who comes to Alaska for 6 months to leave law practice behind and focus on his dream of writing a thriller novel. The dialouge in this novel is hilarious, heartfelt, and great material. I laughed out loud at times.

It's always a good idea to grab a book by these two writers, they create these incredible characters in their worlds so real that they end up opening and breaking my heart
.
Moira is the single mom of three rambunctious children, owner of the only Dinner in Gamble Alaska. After losing her husband four years after getting married, life has been hard for her and her children, all her time, effort and money is devoted to keeping the old farm house where they live from falling apart. After his brother Digger meets the woman of his life, everyone begins to think that she must be next
.
Ethan Caplan came to Gamble to be close to his best friend and nephews before the wedding but also to take a sabbatical to write a novel. Meeting Moira and her children on a daily basis is a plus until they begin to fill their days and the chemistry between the two is impossible to avoid
.
Moira broke my heart, a single mom trying to stay afloat when everyone has opinions about her life. Both Ethan and Moira have their walls high and are afraid to let go of their defenses but they are perfect together
.
I did not like the third act or conflict and I thought the resolution was a bit fast, I would have wanted another reaction from Ethan to make him a perfect book boyfriend
.
I loved all the characters in the book, but the kids always get the best parts
.
Thanks to Whitney Dinneen and Melanie Summers for give me a copy of this beautiful book in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion

Tropes:
-Found Family
-Single Mom
-Small town
-Widow

The Good: I love each and every character in this book (except maybe the Sinclair family). The dialogue is amazingly written, leaving me caught in an eternal state of either melting or dying of laughter. This book brings me so much joy, I think it might be my new comfort book.

The Not-So-Good: This is just based on my personal opinion, but I thought it was a little strange how much and how quickly Moira opened up to Ethan. It could be chalked up to loneliness, but honestly it’s the only thing I could find wrong with the book. Considering it’s not all that wrong, I’d say that's a good sign.

Overall: This book was cracking me up. This book just full of life. The characters are not without their faults or their trials, but they still live. They make the most of their lives. Life isn’t perfect and love isn’t perfect, and I think this book shows that very well. It felt like we were growing with Moira, and with Ethan too. It felt as if we were experiencing life with them. Quickly this became one of those books that make you forget you are reading. I didn’t get to read the first book of this series yet, but I honestly can’t wait to read more from this author.

This book can be read as a standalone, but I think it would make a lot more sense if you read the other book first.

Pace: Nicely paced, I would say medium?

Hero Rating: Honestly, I want an Ethan Caplan. He is a 4.75 star man for me. Ethan is the man we all want. He’s kind, loving, loyal, patient and so much more. Ethan treats her with so much respect. He has raised my standards so high. He is definitely going to be a new book boyfriend.

Heroine Rating: Moira Bishop rated at 3 stars for me. She is a tired single mom doing her best. I thought she was really well written. We can really see her grow throughout the book, and I imagine readers who read the first book will see even more of a change. The pacing for her growth was done very well, not too rushed.

Triggers: Not really. A very brief mention of Adult/Minor Relationship in the second chapter, but that would be it.

Diversity: Yes. Prisha Choudree. Also Native American (Sugpiaq culture).

POV: Dual

Spice Level: 0/5 a clean book

The second in the Gamble On Love series, this story focuses on Moira Bishop, sister to Digger, and owner of Gamble's diner. Moira is a widow with three young boys. She's overworked, exhausted, and she's definitely not looking for love. She's also DEFINITELY not interested in Ethan, the handsome LA entertainment lawyer and best friend of Digger's fiance, Harper. Ethan Caplan has come to Gamble for a six-month sabbatical, with the intention of writing his debut novel. He definitely doesn't need the distraction of the beautiful diner owner.

I immediately felt at home being immersed in Gamble again, with its quirky people and gorgeous scenery. I cried laughing at Ethan's landlady, Julia. Once again the children are brilliant, the twins being particularly hilarious, and I loved Lily's frank talk with Ethan. But I think one of the funniest things was Wyatt's 'unhelpful' facts about flying. The romance was equal parts swoon-worthy and frustrating. I loved all of their hidden moments at the diner. They were cute and hilarious. Moira is a complex character. My heart broke for her, but she was also ridiculously stubborn at times. I totally understood her concerns, and it would definitely have helped if both parties had been more open with their true feelings. Ethan was a sweetheart, but also presumptuous and frankly unrealistic in his assumptions about how their future should play out. I LOVED Harper and Isaac finally calling Moira and Ethan out. The ending was just gorgeous though, and I loved the epilogue. Looking forward to the next in this series.

Overall Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Heat Rating:
Emotional Rating: 💓🙈😂😢💔😍🥰😊

p.s. I would LOVE to read Ethan's book!

*Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to leave an honest review*

**If I have one tiny note for the authors, while I loved the demonstration of Ethan's LA world, there is absolutely ZERO chance Ethan could get an advanced screener of an MCU film. The embargoes are super tight. Even the actors don't get to see the film until the premieres. Sincerely, an MCU super-nerd.**
