This story is definitely quirky and feels a little chaotic, but that may have very well been the intention of the author. The characters and plot are pretty wild, but it is a fun read. I enjoyed it more and more as the story went on and I got to know the characters. I wish the bar itself would have been a little more central to the story. Not my favorite of Poeppels, but she will definitely continue to be an auto-buy author for me. A++ for the cover art!

Very entertaining. Some plot points are a bit of a stretch but I loved being immersed in this story. I could picture the pottery, the messy Village house, the cozy bar, the school lobby...every detail was clear and spot on. Very much like a good Laurie Colwin novel. I'll definitely read more of this author.

This was a cute, feel-good novel with a cutie-pie family at the center — but the pacing felt off to me. From the blurb, I assumed it would be heavily focused on the time after Baby gets left while Mom and Dad chase each other around, but there was a lot of buildup instead. Had there been more temporal balance, I would have adored The Sweet Spot.

The Sweet Spot is a funny, heartwarming and ultimately uplifting story of finding and making your own sweet spot in life. A cast of loveable, exasperating and unique characters come together in an unlikely event: caring for Melinda's ex-husband's baby. Melinda never expected her husband of 30 years to leave her-let alone for famous home-makeover tv icon Felicity, creator of her own highly curated namesake brand. Lauren Shaw, a ceramic artist, has been commissioned to design pieces for Felicity's store, and must somehow find time to create more pieces than she ever has-all the while managing her three very active children, untrained dog and her brilliant but bumbling husband Leo-on top of adjusting moving boroughs into a large, rambling brownstone. Olivia, working as an assistant buyer at Felicity, has the unfortunate luck of a run-in with Melinda at the store that goes viral. When Russell (the ex-husband) runs off after Felicity, who is taking on a new project in LA, Melinda is left with the baby (although she bares some responsibility for this due so some "light" revenge she has enacted). The book is told in 3 acts with chapters from different character's perspectives. You will find yourself laughing, cringing and raising a glass at the end. Amy Poeppel has created a gem of a story, with NYC serving as a great backdrop.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

This author is a new favorite of mine, so I was super excited to read this book. And...I loved it! This is the story of a group of friends in New York who are brought together by the twists and turns of life and an unexpected baby. It's about the bonds between biological families and the families that we create with friends. The characters are flawed but charming, and the Greenwich Village setting is so fun to read. I love how this author writes characters who are quirky and real and relatable. Thank you for the advance copy!

Oh, how I adore Amy Poeppel! Her whimsy and character development is unparalleled, and I will continue to read all the things she cares to share with us. Plus, this one has my dream setting of a brownstone in NYC. Some slight HIMYM vibes for me.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts are my own.

I found this one surprisingly funny but obviously lacking in the romance department. It was kinda of a miss in terms of if I would recommend to a friend.

enjoyed this book overall! It was difficult to get into at first, but once the characters began to cross paths and interact with each other, it picked up and started to hold my attention.

The Sweet Spot by Amy Poeppel is such a fun story to read! This book has so many fantastic characters that are quirky and engaging. The writing is so wonderful and reminds me of Sophie Kinsella. There are lots of humorous moments and the characters grow so much as the plot develops, which adds a heartwarming element to the book. I am looking forward to reading more from this author!

this was a light read and I came to it with high expectations after seeing so many rave reviews about it. I left it ultimately disappointed. it wasn't bad, but I didn't live up to the hype for me. I wonder if I would've enjoyed It more if I came to the book without any expectations. that isn't necessarily the book's fault so I'll round my rating up, but it wasn't the romcom book of my dreams.

This is the second book I have read by this author and I loved it. This book is funny and sweet and manic. It proves that it does truly "take a village" to raise a child, and in the process, turn enemies into friends and learn about forgiveness.

I felt like all the characters were well-written, and I understood the ones I didn't like. The kids were very funny and provided even more comic relief throughout the book. I was very happy with the ending.

This is a great light read.

I am off to get more of her books!

Thank you, NetGalley, for the chance to read and review this book. All opinions are mine and freely expressed.

I adored The Sweet Spot. It took me a little bit to figure out how it was going to play out but I really enjoyed how the characters joined forces to take care of a baby together. The story was so unique and different but included all the drama you could want among a group of strangers. Highly recommend this book for when you are tired of the same old story line!

This was perfectly darling and sweet, yet had enough drama and heart for me to fall for the characters and their foibles. We follow three women and a few men and how their lives intersect amongst work/life/family transition in each of their lives. It was witty, clever, and made me smile. My one qualm was it was longer than it needed to be. I felt a tiny drag by the time it finally finished, but it didn't take away from the enjoyment!

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the complimentary e-copy of this book.

In short: this is one of my favorite books I’ve read this year.

The core main characters of The Sweet Spot are named Lauren, Olivia, and Melinda. Melinda has recently been left by her husband, Russell, for a famous home goods entrepreneur named Felicity. Lauren is an artist who creates ceramics for Felicity’s brand. And Olivia has just been fired from her job as a saleswoman in one of Felicity’s stores. When Melinda sets out to get revenge against Russell and Felicity she also uproots Lauren’s and Olivia’s lives in the process. But the three women end up becoming very (very very) unlikely friends when a series of unlikely events forces them to come together to take care of Russell and Felicity’s new baby.

First of all The Sweet Spot is labeled as a romance on Goodreads, and that irritates me so much that I had to bring it up. That’s ridiculous. There’s one single romance side plot, but it’s definitely not the main plot. Anyway let’s move on to the book.

As I said at the beginning, I LOVED this. It felt a lot like a sitcom. Just like a good TV show it was over the top and unrealistic in a good, fun way. There were tons of characters freely coming and going through each others lives, landing in really weird situations, and growing to love each other as a family over time. Each of the characters has a distinct personality and their own little plotlines that fit well into the overall story.

Most, if not every, character in The Sweet Spot has at least one chapter dedicated to their POV. Because of that the reader is able to see into the hopes and goals of every one of the characters. The entire time I read The Sweet Spot I just wanted everything to work out for each of the characters because being in their minds made me want them to be happy. But the events surrounding these characters are so complicated that it was hard to figure out how everyone could possibly be satisfied by the end. This was a perfect way to keep me invested in the story. I know that sounds chaotic, but it really works. And the story always returns to Melinda, Lauren, and Olivia.

This is such a wholesome, happy, feel good story. I liked the feeling of smiling throughout an entire book. I’d like to experience that more often. I highly highly recommend this.

This was the SWEETEST!!!

I really loved the interconnected moments throughout the story. It really kept me on my toes and it felt like I was anticipating what would happen next.

I always love when there's a community of quirky characters that make up the community, and this was no different. The growth of these strangers into friends was a beautiful thing to read. This story is just so unique and full of joy! The found family warmed my heart and really carried through the plot line.

This was a perfect example of New York City in a book and had me yearning for another visit soon!

I thought that it was a bit long at times; however, the characters and their crazy moments really made up for it.

Overall, a fun read that is perfect for the found family and New York City lover in your life.

4 stars!

I absolutely loved following these three women and I felt like each of them and their stories were so unique. I could feel the real connection between these three women and how real everyone felt. Although at times they made flawed decisions, I think that's what made me really like Lauren, Melinda, and Olivia because they truly felt like genuine women who were trying to find happiness.

Extra points for Lauren's kids because they were so funny!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I am a big judge-by-the-cover type of person. When a cover looks interesting, I sometimes go by that instead of going by the book's description. Grave mistake when reading this one. While it has an average of 4 starts, this one was not a favorite for me. Babies in books have become a sensitive subject now that I'm a mom, and this one was not it for me. Maybe later I might be able to reading it again, but for now... back of the shelf. This should not influence your decision of giving this book a chance. My mindset is not the same as yours and this might be the best book you read all year.

This book was absolutely amazing! I read it in a day because I couldn’t put it down!
Lauren and her family are given the chance to live in Greenwich Village , in a brownstone that has a retro, 70’s style while a family member is out of town. The Brownstone has a dive bar called The Sweet Spot in the basement and it’s a local favorite. Her days are filled with her three children and she’s shocked when her ceramic art is picked up by a famous TV host, successful entrepreneur named Felicity. Plus now Lauren has inadvertently made an enemy of a woman she’s never met.
Melinda’s world is turned upside when her husband of 30years ups and leaves her for a younger woman named Felicity , and to throw salt into the wound Felicity is pregnant. Furious and hurt Melinda is making it her mission to her ex and Felicity and anyone she feels was part of the end of her marriage.
Olivia has finally gotten a promotion at her job at the boutique, that is until an unhinged customer verbally assaults her. Olivia stands up for herself but someone posts a video of the altercation on TikTok but it just shows Olivia saying rude things. So she’s fired.
All three woman find their lives connecting when Melinda’s ex leaves the baby behind to chase after Felicity. Soon they begin to lean on each-other and realize family isn’t only by blood, and the small village will come together and hopefully find happiness they are all looking for! The characters seemed so real and just came off the page! I loved the book so much!

This book was a little slow to start for me as we were introduced to the main characters one at a time. And although the theme of the book starts off as "revenge", I was left feeling happy with the way these women banned together for the sake of a child and found life long friends in the process!
