Such a fun series! This is book 10, and has Kitty and Matt working together to solve a murder and theft of a diamond necklace. Between the two World Wars, there is a lot of mystery and spies going on. Good story, good author and good series. Highly recommend.

Not my favorite of the series but still enjoyable. I found there were a few too many moving parts at times.

I can’t believe that this is Book 10 of Kitty and Matt’s adventures! I’ve read all but Book 1, and have found each to be just as good as the last. I love the over-arching conflict that has connected all the books, and look forward to see that continue to progress. In this particular book, everything was well done as usual. The mystery was simple but not obvious. The characters had flair and were well developed; the “original” characters shining and the new a nice addition. The pacing was well done. Truly a cozy mystery. My only critique is that this would benefit from a thorough proofreading, as there are many grammatical and wording errors that take away from the reading enjoyment. Still, I look forward to Book 11.

This is the 10th book in the series and whilst I have read some i havent read all of them but didn't feel it detracted from the story line and I recognised a few characters. If you had not read the others I dont think it would have caused issues.

A cosy murder mystery.

Thank you for the arc.

Kitty Underhay assists her grandmother in managing the Dolphin Hotel. However, she seems to get more than she bargained for when a valuable diamond necklace disappears during a birthday party at the hotel! To make matters worse, the dead body of a steward on board a river cruise ship is discovered after the party guests disembark following their dinner cruise and head for the hotel. Kitty and her fiance Matt become embroiled in the crimes as they work with law enforcement to solve them.

While this is a cozy mystery, the storyline promises readers a wild romp through fields and forests, not to mention manors and boat houses, before the crimes are solved. Are these two crimes related? Is Kitty being targeted by a family of criminals with whom she dealt in the past? Is national security at risk? Read this novel set in the early 1930's to find the answers to these questions.

Although this is part of a series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone novel.

I received this novel from the publisher and from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

Kitty Underhay is a busy young woman with preparations for her upcoming wedding ceremony and the need to hire a new manager to overlook the running of the hotel once she gets married. She dearly hopes that the birthday celebrations of the Chief Constable's daughter on a luxury paddle steamer, for which Kitty's hotel is providing catering services, goes smoothly. However, it again proves wishful thinking on Kitty's part when by the end of the party, not only there is a dead body to deal with but also the theft of the heirloom necklace belonging to the Chief Constable.

This is the tenth book in the series and was as entertaining as the previous books. Kitty finds herself in very grave danger and comes face to face with Ester Hamnet when it turns out that one of the Chief Constable's party guests is closely related to her. Things are definitely heating up!

My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture and the author Helena Dixon for the e-Arc of the book.

This is another brilliant cosy mystery
Set in an earlier time in history.
With investigations by Kitty Underhay
And Captain Matthew Bryant, her fiancé.

This time the investigations involve several crimes
Murder, theft, kidnapping, treason - what dreadful times!
There's also danger from an old adversary, too,
And surprises galore for readers like me and you.

It all starts with special 21st birthday celebrations
For the daughter of the Chief Constable, her friends and relations.
They start with a meal on the paddle steamer for just a few
Then move to the Dolphin Hotel for the main do.

Despite all the police present nothing goes right
There'll be a murder and a theft before the end of the night!
That triggers a case for our intrepid duo again
One filled with danger and pain!

This is a series I look forward to reading more
With great characters, surprises, you're never sure what's in store!
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
I throughly enjoyed reading it and this is my honest review.

Enjoyed this installment in the Miss Underhay series. Lots of excitement and twists and turns. An ending I never saw coming. Very much in the style of the great Agatha Christie. The main inspector spoke a lot like the famous Poirot. Recommend.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced copy.

I am a definite Helena Dixon fan and have thoroughly enjoyed the Kitty Underhay series. “Murder on Board” is the latest addition to the series. One of the things I love about cosy mystery series is returning to the characters and the sense of catching up on their life! It’s lovely to be back with Kitty, Matt, and everyone at the hotel.

In fairness to the mystery itself, I don’t particularly enjoy the “locked room:” troupe but I know many will love it so I’m sure this too will delight fans. As I pick up this series without even reading the back cover, I was looking forward to setting sail with Kitty. However, the luxury paddle steamer never leaves port! This is more of a land affair!

I will certainly be reading the next in the series and highly recommend it! This one was a four out of five on the enJOYment scale.

I am a fan of the series and the characters having read all of the books to date, The characters continue to evolve and the longer plot continues to intrigue. This episode just didn't quite gel for me, especially the last 20% of the book. It just felt a bit of a stretch. But that's just me.

Im looking forward to seeing where we go from here as the author continues to surprise us..

Its a four out of five for me.

With thanks to #NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for my free advanced reader copy to review in exchange for an honest opinion

This cozy mystery sees Kitty and Matt investigating a jewellery theft and murder. Kitty is also planning her wedding to Matt and we are introduced to a new character who helps in the running of the hotel.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for my review.

Book 10 in a series, but I did read it as a standalone and felt like I was successfully able to follow the story as it was written. I'm sure I would have been able to have an instant connection with the characters if they were the main characters from previous books (which it seems as though they are) but I also don't feel like it detracted me from liking them.
With so many characters I was worried about feeling lost and feeling like I was going to need to set up my own mystery board to figure everyone out but the character descriptions were great, their chemistry was amazing, and their arcs were well thought out.
This is a great cozy mystery with a bit of romance and suspense throughout and was a truly captivating read.

In the tenth Miss Underhay mystery, we catch up with Kitty and her grandmother preparing for an elaborate 21st birthday party for the Chief Constable's daughter at their hotel, The Dolphin. The party included a dinner cruise on a paddle steamer for the family, followed by dancing in the Dolphin, and the presentation of the priceless family heirloom, The Firestone Necklace. Kitty's fiance Captain Matthew Bryant, aka Matt, is working a case for the government that had him trailing and observing a German National. As the party approaches, Kitty's grandmother is finding the hotel management too much for her and they hire a new manager, Cyril Lutterworth, who fits in perfectly. The night arrives and all seems to be going well. As the party disembarks from the paddle steamer, Kitty and Matt head on board to get the dishes and leftover food from the dinner. What they find is a dead man, the man Matt was following. Trying not to ruin the party the only tell the chief inspector and coroner, but when the necklace is stolen, everyone soon learns the truth and there are now two crimes to solve. Are they related?

Once again, Helena Dixon has penned a wonderful period mystery. I enjoy the characters in this series and they were all back, with the addition of Cyril Lutterworth. Mrs. Craven is her irascible
self, sticking her nose in everyone's business and with "clues" she needs to share. I am enjoying how Kitty and Matt have moved their relationship forward with their marriage coming up. They know each other so well, they can finish each other's thoughts and communicate without words. There were several suspects in this story and I kept waffling between a couple I thought were guilty, but I am very rarely correct. With danger afoot, surprises around the corner and two crimes to solve, there is a lot to keep the reader interested in this story. I am already looking forward to the next book in this series. If you enjoy a good, entertaining mystery set in the 1930s, then I recommend you pick up Murder on Board or any book in the Miss Underhay series.

Due to the impending marriage between Kitty and Matt a new manager is appointed for the hotel, enter Cyril Lutterworth a character who i am sure will develop in future novels

A special function hosted by the hotel onboard a paddle steamer leads to theft and murder and Kitty and Matt are smack bang in the middle

Number 10 in the series and still as good

Murder, robbery, kidnapping.... All in another day's work for Kitty Underhay and her fiancé Matthew, of course. This time the story revolves around a 21st birthday party on a luxury paddle steamer and a shady character who meets an unfortunate end. And when a priceless necklace goes missing, at a party held by the Chief Constable no less, things get more complicated.

Readers who have followed the series thus far will have watched the characters develop over the books, and Kitty's back story - involving her mother's murder and the dastardly Hammett family - takes on a further development here. We also get the welcome introduction of a new character, Cyril Lutterworth, who has been employed in the role of hotel manager to allow Kitty's grandmother to take a back seat. Lutterworth proves himself a worthy addition to the cast and will, I'm sure, be a regular in the books going forward.

This is just a great series, and I always look forward to the next book. 4 stars, as ever.

(With thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this title.)

Another triumph for Kitty Underhay and her soon to be husband private detective Matt.

Kitty and her grandmother have found a manager for The Dolphin Hotel which surely means they can get down to the wedding planning. Sadly not as a birthday celebration brings Murder and mayhem and more potential chaos for plucky Kitty while tracking down clues.

Another great book in this amazing series. Can’t wait for the wedding.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Murder On Board' by Helena Dixon.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Helena Dixon, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 19th October 2022.

This is the fifth book I have read by this author. It is also the ninth book in the 'Miss Underhay' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Murder On The Dance Floor', 'Murder At The Wedding', 'Murder In First Class', 'Murder At Elm House' and 'Murder At The Country Club' which I would highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its gorgeous eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'The Perfect read for fans of fans of Agatha Christie, T.E. Kinsey and Lee Strauss.' I am a huge fan of Agatha Christie so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Helena and if this is as good as 'Murder On The Dance Floor', 'Murder At The Wedding', 'Murder In First Class', 'Murder At Elm House' and 'Murder At The Country Club' it is sure to be a good read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 26 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Paignton, Devon, UK 🇬🇧 . I always enjoy when books are set in the UK as I'm from Wales and have sometimes visited areas mentioned in the book. This makes it easier to picture where the scenes are set at times. I have in fact visited Devon on many occasions including this year so am looking forward to possibly recognising name places.

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Kitty Underhay and Captain Matthew Bryant. I enjoy books written in third person with several protagonists as it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters.

Yet another fantastic murder mystery by the very talented Helena Dixon!!! Congratulations 🎊 🎉 🎈

This book was very well written and I do believe some research went into it as everything linked correctly in with the era it was set in. It is a real bug bear for me when I read a historical novel and the author hasn't done their research and gets basic information mixed up so well done Helena!! It was very well written and I found the synopsis and the cover fitted the storyline perfectly, The descriptions were great and it really felt as if I was in the story.

The storyline was very interesting and fast paced. Helena completely emerges the reader into the storyline. I absolutely loved that this murder mystery took place on a luxury paddle steamer which is unique from what I've read so far. First time I've "seen" a murder on a steamer so well done Helena!! I found the setting very atmospheric and it was even more exciting as there was a very small amount of suspects. I really enjoyed that it was set in the past and the storyline really suited that. It really is a nice cozy mystery that will keep you guessing throughout. At no point did I suspect who was doing what or why so a huge well done there Helena!!! I have read many a mystery and find that I am working out the killer/perp quicker every time and there's nothing worse than working out who did what when your need even half way through a book. Not only is this quite a suspense and action filled mystery but there was just the right amount of quirkiness, laughter and romance to give it a nice mix!!! A fun, addictive, unputdownable cozy crime mystery. This is a fantastic series and if you have never read any of Helena's previous books then you are definitely missing out. I, personally, would like to add that I think each storyline has got better and better which is a very rare thing for a series.

Although this is the tenth book in the series I would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

I am really invested in the characters and really enjoyed Kitty and her fantastic and quirky personality!!! In fact all of the characters had their own individual personalities which worked really well with each other. I especially enjoyed getting to know Matt, Alice and Dolly more. They have all become like a family to me and I always hate saying goodbye to them at the end of the book. I am looking forward to meeting them all again in the next 'episode' of Miss Underhay's adventures which I'm sure will be just as exciting as this one!!

Well done Helen on yet another fantastic success and here's to the next addition to an addictive page turning series 🥂!!!

Overall a perfect mix of mystery, crime, romance, laughter and quirkiness which kept me turning the pages late at night!!

Genres covered in this novel include Historical, Cozy Mystery, Cozy Animal Mystery, Private Investigator Mystery Murder Mysteries, Women Sleuths and Crime among others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Agatha Christie, T.E. Kinsey and Lee Strauss and anyone looking for a nice easy mystery to read while curled up in front of the fire.

258 pages.

This book is just £2.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon, free on kindle unlimited and £7.99 in paperback (at time of review) which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

First I want to say thank you for allowing me to read this arc and all thoughts and reviews are my own.

Murder on board is number 10 in the series (a miss underhay mystery book) and the 2nd book I’ve read. I enjoyed the first so I figured I’d give another a chance from the series and I honestly loved it. The author made kitty so enjoyable. I love a good “blast from the past” style book set in a different time era. Loved it

I've read all the books in this series so far, and it's one of my favourites! I like the dynamic between Matt and Kitty, and that the author didn't make inspector Greville behave like an idiot, like in many other (cosy) mysteries. I love the characters, and the twists and turns kept me on my toes until the very end (which I absolutely didn't expect!)

If you are looking for a new cosy mystery series, you found it! Even if this can be read as a standalone, don't hesitate to go back and ready the first 9 books :-)

Thank you to the publisher who provided me with an e-copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Kitty is hoping a particularly tricky 21st birthday party, which includes a dinner cruise on a steamer, goes off without a hitch. Her plans are scuppered when one of the boat crew is found dead. Later the same night, a priceless diamond necklace is swiped under Kitty's nose. Are these two crimes linked? It's up to Kitty and her fiance, Captain Matthew Bryant, to find out.

If you don't know this series, they're books set in the 1930s Britain following the adventures of hotel owner Kitty Underhay and her fiance PI Captain Matthew Bryant. Each mystery is a standalone, but there is a secondary story to do with Kitty's mother and those responsible for her going missing that runs throughout the books.

I absolutely love this series, have read all ten books at this point, and I have to say Murder On Board is one of my favourites! There's mystery, peril for poor amateur sleuths and a hint of espionage thrown in there too.

There are plenty of twists and turns along the way, and I was kept guessing until the end.

With Kitty and Matt's nuptials coming up soon, there was the introduction of a new character, Cyril Lutterworth, who'll be the new manager at the Dolphin hotel. I'm looking forward to seeing how he'll fit in and how Kitty will get used to the new dynamic.

I wonder if in the next book we'll finally see Kitty and Matt married. I have my fingers crossed!

If you're looking for a fun, fast-paced series, then I would highly recommend the Kitty Underhay mysteries to you!
