What a beautifully written book. A story of love, trust and friendship, and the cost involved of keeping all of it sacred. Will read more by this author in future.

Julia Roberts’ latest novel The Dilemma is an emotional and heart-wrenching tale that forensically explores the tangled ties that bind us together, the sacrifices we make for those we love and the courage to go to whatever lengths necessary to help those dearest to us.

Having just come out of a long-term relationship, Charlotte headed off on an exotic holiday in order to rest, regroup and figure out the next chapter in her life. After everything that she had been through, romance was the very last thing on her mind, but when she crossed paths with sexy and charismatic Justin, Charlotte decided to throw all caution to the wind and have some no-strings fun. What happens on holiday is meant to stay on holiday – until Charlotte discovers that she is pregnant. Fully intending to keep the baby and to give it the best possible childhood, Charlotte is determined to bring her baby up on her own. The father is going to be out of the picture – or so she thinks. It turns out that Justin was not just a handsome stranger she met on holiday, but the husband of one of her closest friends.

Charlotte is certainly not going to spill the beans and vows to take this secret to her grave. However, it soon transpires that her baby is born with a rare illness and desperately needs a transplant. Justin could help save her child’s life and there is absolutely nothing a desperate mother will not do to save her baby. But will revealing her secret end up destroying her friend’s marriage? What will Charlotte do? Will her baby’s survival depend on telling one of her dearest friends that her husband is a liar?

Faced with the hardest choice of her life, Charlotte knows that whatever decision she makes somebody close to her is going to end up paying the harshest price of all.

Julia Roberts’ The Dilemma is an intelligently written, sensitively told and brilliantly affecting drama about friendship, family and love that will get under readers’ skin and keep them absolutely hooked from beginning to end. The characters in The Dilemma are multi-faceted, layered and believable and the reader will be with them every step of the way on this emotionally fraught journey.

A book readers will still be thinking about long after they’ve finished, Julia Roberts’ The Dilemma is a brilliant page-turner that has all the ingredients for a nail-biting TV adaptation – I hope somebody brings it to the screen soon.

The Dilemma is a gripping read by Julia Roberts. There is a lot of ground to cover – friendship, love, betrayal – all the feelings are waiting to wrap you up in the pages. This is an intimate read where I find myself rooting for all these women. At times heart wrenching, always emotional I highly recommend reading The Dilemma.

TRIGGER WARNING: suspected infertility and miscarriage, serious childhood illness
Charlotte is desperate for a baby but is disappointed every month. Then her partner Zack destroys all her hope and she leaves him. A holiday one night stand results in a baby but Charlotte is shocked when she discovers the true identity of her lover...
The Dilemma is a domestic and psychological drama. Emotion is high throughout and the plot developments create fascinating thought provoking questions in the readers' minds.
Charlotte's desire to have a baby is all-consuming but Zack has been hiding a secret which utterly ruins her trust in him so she runs away. A night of passion results in a pregnancy which thrills her whilst also scaring her. She discovers the identity of her lover and is devastated but resolves to keep quiet. However her baby's illness means that Charlotte needs to confront the circumstances of his conception even if it destroys her and his father.
The identity of the baby's father was completely obvious, especially if you have read the blurb! However the mystery was not necessary to provide a captivating emotional situation. Secrets form the heart of the dilemmas in this book alongside a break down of the trust which is intrinsic to relationships.
The majority of the book is written from Charlotte's first person perspective but there are a few chapter written from a different first person perspective. The characters are written in such a believable manner that it is easy to understand their actions and choices.
The Dilemma is a absorbing and entertaining novel packed full of emotion.

Incredible, what a heart breaking, heart-warming, heart stopping story of a woman's desire to become a mother.

Charlotte leaves her relationship of 10 years; her trust had been broken and there was no other way ahead. She gets a new place to live and a new job in a flower shop. It's an even paced read that will blow your mind in many chapters, it will also warm your heart.

Definitely recommended.

My Review
The cover of this one caught my eye immediately.
I haven't come across author Julia Roberts until now and I am delighted I have done..
She writes a cracking good story...
One that will keep you interested and turning the pages long into the night.
We meet Charlotte and her boyfriend Zack in this story.
Charlotte decides to call time on their relationship when Zack tells her something he has been keeping from her.
To her, the trust is completely gone out the window and she must now try to create a new life without him in it.
She has the support of her friends Annabel and Tiffany to get her through it.
To cheer her up, her friend Annabel's boyfriend Finn treats both of them to a holiday in Mauritius. In a moment of madness, Charlotte does something so completely out of character for her but it will change her life in more ways than she ever thought possible.
The birth of her baby boy George is all she has ever wanted and when she finds out he has a rare illness, she knows she needs to contact the boys father.
In doing so there is every possibility she will destroy her friendship with her friend but her son comes first and she must do everything she can to help him.
I really enjoyed this story if I'm honest. It had me from the very first page. I loved her characters, I loved the storyline and especially the way she told it through the different characters.
I could feel the emotion of it all throughout and let me tell you there was plenty..

So well worth your time.

Being childless, I just couldn’t connect with Charlotte.  I have no feeling that my life is incomplete without a child, but don’t discount her feelings.  That being said, I think this could be a terrific book club choice with all the different avenues or dilemmas and choices in the novel.  What is an allowable secret from a significant other?  There are many of these in the novel and as I thought about each one, I thought a lot of them were too much for a healthy relationship.

With a few twists along the way, we follow Charlotte and her friends through some difficult choices.  I was interested in how the situations would be resolved.  Some of the book seemed a little unbelievable but I was always wanting to know what would happen next.

I switched back and forth from the print to the audio and thought Daphne Kouma did a great job narrating the book and drawing you into the story.

Again a great book club choice and also good for anyone like women’s fiction with meaty choices.

I must start off my saying that I am not usually an emotional person. But, this book caught me and pulled on my heart strings on more than one occasion.

The Dilemma follows Charlotte, desperate to be a mother and is always disappointed and a little broken by the negative pregnancy test results. But not as much as she was when she found out why it had not happened to her.

When she finally falls pregnant, it was not something she had ever expected which considering it was all she had thought about for years, the irony was not lost on her.

The Dilemma is a book that is written amongst many dilemmas along the way, but the shocking twist makes it known exactly which dilemma instantly is the one that counts.

This book was so incredibly well written, with such amazing, authentic characters that made me feel connected to them on a deep level. I found myself catching my breath, and with tears in my eyes numerous times throughout the book, right up until the very end.

Usually, happy endings are not my thing. But, all I wanted since first meeting Charlotte in this book was everything she had hoped for in her life.

This was an incredible, heartbreaking page turner.

The Dilemma was a page turning emotional read. It’s filled with secrets and lies and I absolutely loved it. This book will have you hooked from the very beginning and you will honestly just want to keep reading until the final chapter. There is so much emotion in this book that will tug at the hardest of hearts. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and based on what I’ve just read I will certainly be reading more..

The Dilemma is an emotional tale that is written so skilfully. Exploring themes of friendship, the love we have for our children and more. I was glued to the book from the start.

With echoes of Jodi Picoult, my heart broke for Charlotte. The struggle to have a child is a heartbreaking one. When she has her son George, she is only too aware it will be a one woman job to bring him up. When he needs a transplant to save his life, she discovers she is unable be a donor. Her moral dilemma is - if she goes to his father, she will tear apart her own world and that of those close to her. What would you do to save the life of your child?

Julia Roberts takes the reader back to Charlotte's life before she has George. The torture she goes through every month is palpable. Her grief every time her test reult is negative pours of the page. I was drawn into this womans life and her deep need for a child. I understood it, even though I haven't had issues like this, my daughter has and I know how she felt. The devastation that marks every month is heartbreaking. Then George needs his transplant and she is faced with the impossible choice. This leads to a story full of twisty suspense as secrets begin to tumble out affecting everyone around her.

The author had me in the palm of her hand throughout this story. Her characters made me believe in them, faults and all. I was invested in Charlotte and her friends too. I was with her all the way.

A book that makes the reader think, well, it did me and I was still thinking about it after I had closed the book. I was left thinking I need to read more of Julia Robert's work soon.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley.

This was my second book by the author and a great one.

Willing to become a mother for so long, Charlotte has to leave her long-lasting relationship with a man that not only didn’t share her dreams, but went behind her and destroyed them even more.

Now that she is single and in a different mindset, she has a one-night stand that will bring more to her plate than she ever thought it will.

Friendship, lies and emotions, that’s what all the story is about.

I knew the author would write a book that, while relatable, it will pull at the strings of your heart in so many ways.

The story could not be more interesting and I can totally see this fiction book happening in real life.

I felt sad for Charlotte and her baby. I also felt like I would not have her courage to bring it all out in the light but maybe because of the life she has to protect, i would have done it in the end as well.

Beautiful writing, emotional reading and one that makes you question some life decisions.

Charlotte’s ten-year relationship with partner Zack is over. Desperate to be a mother, Charlotte is devastated that all of their efforts to have a child were for naught. After many tries and fails, Zack tells Charlotte that they will never be parents. He had a vasectomy. Shocked, betrayed and unforgiving, Charlotte ends their relationship.

One night while away on a trip, completely out of character for her, Charlotte has a one-night stand with a man named Justin. This would have long-range consequences for Charlotte, although she had no way of knowing at the time. Charlotte is now pregnant, and she soon shockingly discovers who it was that she slept with. This truly places Charlotte in a dilemma, thus the apropos title of this effective read.

In fact, the father of her baby is only one of several dilemmas Charlotte will be facing. With her son being born with a rare disease, quite naturally, Charlotte will make the best decisions she can for her child, even if it means revealing the truth of that single night, something that could cost her dear friendships.

One thing is for certain in this stellar read by Julia Roberts. Secrets find their way to the surface, especially when critical decisions could save a precious life. This story definitely has moral consequences facing the characters, but also has a very strong emotional edge that begs this story to work out for all involved, especially the innocent child in all of this.

Julia Roberts is a brilliant author who has presented readers with yet another evocative story, one that pulled me in right from the start. I loved the various dilemmas facing Charlotte and other characters in this book, and I stayed invested because I just had to see how everything would work out. Needless to say, I was not disappointed.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
