This book was everything I wanted it to be. It had me turned pages without even realizing. It was so good!

A domestic thriller about a nurse whose new husband is murdered. Written from the point of view of the nurse, the lead detective and his sergeant, this is a story filled with secrets and lies.

Wow! Really enjoyed this domestic thriller by Liz Lawler! So many secrets, lies and hidden agendas. The characters in this were perfect. So well developed and made me feel like I was a part of the story. Multilayer story that was expertly delivered. So many great twists, turns and reveals.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book

I'd say this book had all the elements I'd normally love but they just seemed to be in the wrong order and wrong ratio for me! The start is amazing and really gets your attention but after that initial short, sharp, shock..... it really does drag a bit! There's just so many words and unnecessary description that it kind of feels like the author was just needing to up the word count so started rambling and describing things that literally noone cares about. It does improve again if you can manage to stick at it but just when I'm starting to get into it again and trying tonfigure things out, you get to the finale and all of a sudden there are a million things thrown at you and all these big reveals, one after the kther which..... yeah, has a certain impact but its also just really odd and feels rushed and like we just wanted to be finished so just went and tied everything up all at once so it can be over. Had the description been a bit more spread through the book instead of what felt like 8 chapters of just no action, and had the twists and red herrings bn spread through the book then id have enjoyed it a bit more. It almost felt like about 5 different writers or books

This is the week of new authors for me. 😊 As I mentioned before, it’s always a bit special. It’s like tasting a new food or going to a new restaurant. Will it be good? Will it be amazing or will it rather be ok, for this one time, but never again?

Important to me is always starting with an open mind and letting the characters lead the way.

So, let me explain my thoughts.

The first chapter was very inviting and intriguing. I felt I was in for a treat, but the next few chapters were less engaging. I felt confused and there was too much text and not enough action for me. I am sorry to say that I was struggling a bit.

But woohoo, the story started to pick up pace. I was getting more in to it and a lightbulb went off in my head. I had figured something out. Hooray. I am always very pleased with myself when I was right for once after being often completely missing the ball. 😉

The story suddenly became a lot more interesting and I was less able to put the book away. The author kept everything hidden until the end in order to reveal secret upon secret. Maybe even too many?

I honestly did not always understand why some characters did what they did and why now? Maybe I did not get it?

Anyway, the story was a good one and heart breaking at times. 4 stars.

Thank you

The Nurse's Secret
by Liz Lawler

The book started out slow for me. The three povs, and too many details. FINALLY, it picked toward the end, but it was not one I would really want to read again. Just not a huge page-turner in my own opinion.

Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for the advance ebook and for my honest review.

My name is Sarah Shaw. I’m a nurse. I’m working at the hospital on my usual night shift when I receive an urgent call from the nurse’s station. As I rush down the brightly lit corridor I see two police officers. And I know it’s terrible news…
The words blur together as the officer standing in front of me tells me that my husband William is dead.
We were only married for a few short months. Our life together hadn’t even started. Now I’m thirty years old and a widow.
As the investigation begins, all eyes are on me: the young wife.
Even if it would clear my name, I can’t tell them the truth about my shocking past. But when a young nurse is killed, it’s a clear warning. My life is in danger too.

Whip Out Your Tail-feathers! 😳😯🤯😳😯

What the floofy flowers?! I mean... what?! For the love of peace and chocolate! I mean... I can't.. whoa! Lawler's few novels that I've read have always hit it out of the park for me and this one was no different. An absolute cluster-fluffer of a humdinger thriller that's guaranteed to leave your jaw on the floor. A perfect entrapment of unbelievable twists, secrets, & cunning, devious tangled connections. While I did have an inkling to the "whodunnit", the reason and past was such a shock and so unforeseen for me it completely made up for it. I savoured this like the last piece of delish chocolate cake with a filling of soft coconut cream (that is no longer in my fridge). I gobbled this up, the different perspectives, characters, story's & mystery of the police procedure. It was truly satisfying and an ending that worked so well. Keep hydrated & plenty of snacks on hand for this one folks!

Mყ 𝐒ყɴ𝐨ρѕιѕ: Sarah is a head nurse and recently been married to William. But that all changes one night when a police officer shows up during her shift to announce her husband has been found dead in their home. Of course the initial suspect is always the spouse, and Sarah is no exception. But Sarah can't prove her innocence because if she does, her past will come out and that's even more unthinkable than being considered a murderer.

I really enjoyed this read, it was well written with a compelling storyline told through multiple points of view and well developed characters and it kept me gripped right from the start. It was twisty and kept me guessing,

My husbands dead,it wasn't me but they think it was so now I need to prove my innocence but I can't tell the truth because then I have to reveal who I really am.
A story told from different points of view.Plenty twists and turns made for an enjoyable read.
You think you know what happened but you don't which is all down to the brilliant writer.
Another winner from Liz Lawler.

A long time coming or a little too late?

Like my peanut butter and jelly, I like my twists spread throughout the novel rather than all lumped together. An even spread, right to the edges, makes every bite enjoyable. With the last 10% of this book setting off like a firecracker revealing secrets upon secrets, it made for a soporific read for the majority of the book. Don’t get me wrong, the prologue and the first chapter got my attention…to the point where I didn’t want to eat my lunch…but I found trudging through the police procedurals, superfluous material, and the mindless chatter between constables a wee bit tedious. It’s too bad because the first chapters with the focus on the hospital were superb. The author’s career experience shone in her words; she took me into the ward and the morgue and had me smelling the rubber gloves and chemicals and hearing the noises just beyond the ward. I was right there.

A former boyfriend, the ex-boyfriend’s work mentor, a curious co-worker, and a newlywed …all well-crafted, unlikeable characters…provide enough clues to follow them closely as suspects. It’s definitely a character-driven novel and an interesting premise. I didn’t know who to trust and was wowed by the ending.

The Nurse's Secret takes a bit of patience as you wait for the big reveal. Those who love police procedurals and character-driven novels will find this one satisfying.

I was gifted this advance copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

ARC

**I received an advanced readers copy from @netgalley and @bookouture in exchange for an honest review**

Sarah is a nurse whose husband is murdered while she is at work. Nick one of the officers on the scene finds out the wife is his ex- girlfriend who broke his heart, not that long ago. Then there's Charlie
who is also a police officer and pretty much Nick's mentor and closest friend.

This is a story about friendships, heartaches and of course murder.

In my opinion the book was a bit drug out. Maybe too many details given. Don't get me wrong it was a good book, I just didn't find it sucking me in enough to want to keep reading nonstop like others.
I will say about 85% through the book it gets real good and so much comes together.

Did I enjoy it, I'd say yes, again just too many details when non were needed.

This was my first book by this author and I will give another one of her books a chance.

The Nurse’s Secret tells the story of Sarah Shaw, a nurse whose husband is murdered while she is working one night. There are many characters in this book who all have their own story and at times it was a little tedious. The story was very slow but at 90% complete there was bombshells and secrets galore! I would have preferred to get a few of the secrets and twists through out the book rather than all at once. The story was interesting and unique though. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

“The Nurse’s Secret” is by Liz Lawler. This book takes place in England, so if one is unfamiliar with British slang and the police system, you may find yourself consulting sources for information (or rewatching “Sherlock”). This story is told through three different points of view - Sarah, a nurse whose husband was murdered; Nick, the head detective on the case; and Charlie, a seasoned detective and Nick’s work partner. There are a number of things being kept secret in this book.

Sarah Shaw is a nurse. She was working a night shift when the police arrive on her ward. Her husband has been found dead. She had earlier reported him missing as she could not contact him. He had been receiving strange phone calls.
Another member of staff ‘Kathleen’ takes her under her wing. But she doesn’t seem the usual grieving widow. She hadn’t been married long to William. Who himself had lost his long term wife Mary only months before.
Could Sarah be involved with the murder.. The situation isn’t helped when the cop appointed to her case turns out to be an old boyfriend she dumped before William.
Told from different point of view the book has a good flow to it. I instantly disliked Kathleen but couldn’t make my mind up about Sarah. Overall a good read.

The Nurse's Secret by Liz Lawler

My husband has been murdered. Everyone thinks I did it. Now I have to prove my innocence but I can’t tell the truth. Because then I’d have to confess who I really am.

My name is Sarah Shaw. I’m a nurse. I’m working at the hospital on my usual night shift when I receive an urgent call from the nurse’s station. As I rush down the brightly lit corridor I see two police officers. And I know it’s terrible news…

Another great read by the author , I've read The Silent Mother and The Next Wife, I enjoyed them both but this is my favourite so far .
A really good plot and great characters, alongside a few twists and you have a book that would also work well as a tv series of a film. I'll look out for it !

The Nurse's Secret by Liz Lawler is quite the page-turner.

The story is told through three different characters' eyes. Sarah Shaw is a nurse who has recently been married and whose husband has been murdered. Nick is the head detective on the case and has dated Sarah, but they agree not to tell anyone. Charlie is Nick's partner and a seasoned detective fighting health issues.

After the murder, Sarah goes to stay with a colleague, Kathleen, who is really creepy! Sarah decides to tell Kathleen and Kathleen's husband, Jose, that she and Nick used to be together. Charlie also figures it out along the way and is hoping Nick will come clean to not compromise the investigation. As you read, you just know that secrets are hiding around the corner and will be explosive once they are revealed.

I really liked the character of Issy, who is another detective. I hope more books are written and that she is featured.

The Nurse's Secret had me guessing all over the place about what was going on and who was involved. I would never have thought of these plot twists that were revealed. I'm glad the story didn't neatly wrap up though the ending was sad.

I would recommend this book and this author. A solid 4 out of 5 stars.

Sarah is a nurse and on shift. Her husband has been getting strange calls and letters and then she is unable to contact him and she is worried. The police arrive to find him shot. Sarah has a secret, we know not what, and also has previously been in a relationship with the leading detective Nick which they are both keeping quiet about. Who would want William dead and why?
I quickly got into this. Sarah is an engaging character and there is mystery from the very beginning. A story with twists and turns and where I thought I knew the perpetrator- but was I right? A tale where everyone is somehow connected whether in the present or the past- almost like a cozy mystery but much darker. A character driven, interesting read, albeit a little slow in parts . A book of ups and downs and how the past can very much shape the future for some if they let it.
