Another smasher of a story from the amazing Sue Watson!

Emily knows what it’s like to run from your past as she took her young daughter, Sofia, at the age of 3 years old, and did just that. Now 12 years later mother and daughter are nicely settled in Sidmouth, a charming seaside town in Devon. Emily has a nice job in a perfume shop, Sofia is settled in school with a good group of friends, and all is well in their world. But suddenly Sofia starts to act strangely, she begins asking questions about her and her mother’s past. Then when Emily finds out she has been messaging a stranger on social media, who seems to know a lot about Emily and Sofia’s life, she is terrified that someone knows her secret and is willing to spill it to her daughter. Things escalate when a sinister note arrives and Emily feels like someone is constantly watching their flat, she has tried to protect her daughter for 12 long years but feels she is suddenly losing control of everything she has tried so hard to conceal in the hope of keeping Sofia safe. Will all the secrets that Emily has managed to hide for so long emerge? And what will happen to Emily and Sofia’s relationship if the past catches up with them?

Another great story from Sue Watson. As per every one of her books I read I was hooked within pages of the start, the pace was great, and I didn’t want to stop reading as the story went on. At times I felt Emily was a little frustrating as I could see that her lying to Sofia would just push Sofia further away, but I also could understand she was trying desperately to protect her. The twist at almost the halfway mark was a shock and I did not see that coming. I did figure out that someone wasn’t as they seemed, but I was still shocked to see I was right. I loved the fact that one of the characters really came through right at the end, which gave me a little bit of a warm and fuzzy feeling. As for the end twist- one word is all that is needed- WOWSERS! I did NOT see that coming so great job by Sue Watson!

Sue Watson weaves the most enthralling tale that can’t help but pull you in and keep you turning pages. A thrilling ride and I highly recommend this book for any psychological thriller fans, you will not be disappointed! Totally deserved 5 stars!

Thank you to NetGalley, Sue Watson and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out now.

I loved this book and was immediately sucked into the intriguing, slow building suspense. Sue has such a clever way of writing that leaves you not knowing who you can believe or trust and throughout, there's a definite underlying menace that kept me eagerly turning the pages.

An easy read with plenty twists and turns! However I found the story to be abit predictable! It was definitely a slow burner and get did get better towards the middle and end of the book with the story holding more tension

The Nursery
By Sue Watson

I couldn’t stop reading!!! What a great story by Sue Watson!!
A mother and daughters bond is unbreakable. Emily’s daughter Sofia has always been a good girl but as of late she has been getting into trouble and has been texting with “Pink Girl”.
Emily has done everything to keep the past away from them but she can’t help think that this Pink Girl is from her past and is trying to harm Emily.

What a great story!! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookoutrue for the advanced copy of this story.

Do you ever feel like someone is watching you?

The Nursery is about Emily and her 15-year-old daughter, Sophia. Emily works in a perfume store, that her landlord owns. Emily starts to notice someone watching their house across the street. She starts to think her past is back to haunt her. At the same time, Sophia has started talking to someone online that is sharing things about her mothers past. Of course this causes issues between Sophia and Emily. Then Sophia goes missing.

The Nursery started out slow. I had a hard time staying interested in the story at the beginning. It then got better as I continued to read. By the middle to end, I was enthralled. I had to finish it. At the beginning, I was not a fan of Emily, by the end, I was routing for her.

ARC provided by NetGalley for an honest review.

The Nursery kept me constantly trying to figure out how things were going to go!

So many secrets/twists came out that I had not even thought about!

Parts of the book got me in the feels as I also adopted my daughter.

This was my first Sue Watson book and won’t be my last!

A mother's worst fear - opening a door to your baby's room and finding the baby gone! But there is more....
A secret that Emily holds for her daughter Sophia and that secret is about to be revealed. A feeling that someone is watching, then a package, then Sophia writing a message. Is Emily's life about to unravel.
This was a good story, but not quite what I expected from the cover of the book and the synopsis. Still interesting enough to read the whole book as Sue Watson is a great author.
I thank the author, publisher and Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Nursery is another unputdownable psychological thriller by Sue Watson. I know each creation from this author is guaranteed to have relatable characters, a compelling plot and twists upon twists that are both unexpected and mind blowing. This thriller in no exception. Emily is a character you will root for, but also question and doubt at times throughout this tumultuous journey. Her daughter Sofia will pull at your heart one minute and have you shaking your head at her in disbelief the next minute. The plot is layered and perfectly paced as the past comes back with a vengeance and loyalty is tested. I enjoyed every intense moment while reading one shocking twist after another. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves an unpredictable story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thriller fans will struggle to put down Sue Watson’s chilling new novel, The Nursery.

It was Emily’s worst nightmare come true: twelve years ago, her daughter Sofia had been taken from her cot. Emily had been absolutely frantic with sorrow and despair and had thought she would never see her beloved baby girl ever again. Emily has never forgotten the terror she had felt that fateful day and although Sofia had returned back to her, she has never stopped feeling apprehensive. Sofia is now twelve years old and she’s changing with each passing day. Why is her daughter getting into trouble? Why are her grades slipping? And just what are the reasons behind her constant questions about what happened when she was a baby? Will Emily’s darkest secrets end up coming to light? Or are her nightmares only just beginning?

Emily is scared that she will end up losing her daughter forever and her fears are compounded when she finds out that Sofia has been messaging a stranger online and their last message threatens to expose what happened the night she had gone missing. Days later, Emily returns home to find that Sofia has disappeared again. Can she save her daughter a second time? Or is Emily already far too late?

Sue Watson knows how to bring our deepest and darkest fears to life on the page and she is sure to terrify her readers with The Nursery. Cleverly written and brilliantly plotted, this heart-twisting thriller was so compulsively readable I was still engrossed in the early hours of the morning.

Scary, fast-paced and deliciously twisted, with The Nursery best-selling author Sue Watson comes up trumps yet again!

A typical and average thriller that has some exciting, compelling, and creepy parts to it, equal to the nothing special parts to it. A good read, but nothing that stands out.

Boy did I enjoy this!
It has everything I need in a thriller.
A great story, realistic, and a plot that could go several ways in its finale. And although towards the last few chapters it was a toss up of some suspects the twists (and yes I said twists plural) was a great bashing clanging bang ending……

Very well drawn 3D characters with several sides to their personalities which intrigued me.

I’ve only read one other book by this author (I think…I’ll check) I need to certainly change that as I’m loving her style.

The bit at the end about how the author came up with the idea, that in itself was intriguing.
I’m loving how she put a spin on this as regards adoption.

This will appeal to readers who like a good back story with the thrillers they read and family orientated.

Definitely 4 star for me.

Twelve years ago Emily and her young daughter Sofia escaped their past by leaving Manchester and fleeing to Sidmouth. They were befriended by Mr and Mrs Woods who provided them with a rented flat and gave Emily a job in their perfume shop. Now twelve years later Emily is still protecting their lives so is horrified when she finds Sofia is messaging a stranger on social media and fears for her safety. Who is this new online girlfriend who seems to know so much about their lives? Emily’s past starts to unravel as more of her secrets are revealed. This is a book that will keep you in suspense and guessing until the end. A highly recommended read.

The Nursery by Sue Watson. Pub Date: October 22, 2022. Rating: 3 stars. In this psychological suspense thriller, Emily and her daughter Sophia have fled an abuser and are living a quiet life that appears to be "normal." But, suddenly Emily starts to feel a presence and as if someone is watching them. One night, someone breaks into their home and leaves an ominous note. From that point, the reader is taken on a journey of suspense, family drama, broken relationships and secrets. I liked this book, but did not love it. It felt a little slow at times, but overall had enough mystery to keep the flow of the story. This is my review of The Nursery.

Emily had just left her job as a nurse to care for her daughter, Sophia, and start a new life to avoid her ex-husband, Chris, from finding them. They had just escaped a dangerous situation and Emily was afraid about being found.

They were both fortunate to rent a flat from an older couple (the woods) who took them in as family and gave Emily a part-time job in their perfume shop, while Sophia was at nursery school.

Then Emily senses someone is watching them at their flat…and then in their flat. There was a break-in and a crescent-shaped plastic piece and a strange note was left at the scene.

Sophia, a teenager now, once a star student, is getting into trouble at school and she’s started asking questions about when she was a baby, but Emily can’t tell her what really happened the night she went missing. Nobody would understand why Emily did what she did, and if anyone ever found out, she could lose her daughter forever.

Then Emily catches Sofia messaging a stranger online, and reads the last message received.

“Your mother isn’t who you think she is.”

Then Emily returns home days later, to find Sophia missing! Has her past finally caught up with her?

This was a well-written novel filled with drama, full of twists and turns to totally grip the reader.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for my digital copy.
