Wow, what a thriller this was! Read in less than 24 hours. A proper page turner with a few unexpected twists and turns.

This is the story of the Hixton 5, children terrorised by a local lady when they were young, and how this affects them later in life when her prison sentence ends. Strange things start to happen to Hannah and Rosie, the main characters in our story after Mrs W is released.

I thought I’d solved it early on, but then something happens to challenge this and I then think it’s someone else. Then another twist and I’m wrong again? Loved this and kept me guessing, even though I was right all along!

Definitely one for psychological thriller fans, and an amazing debut novel.

Twenty years ago Hannah and her friends - who would become known as the Hixton Five - should have had a summer of fun but instead things took a sinister turn that lead to the murder of her friends brother and the arrest of Mrs Wickham a woman who was an adult and someone they should have been able to trust.

Hannah finds out that Mrs Wickham has been release from prison at the same time a guy called Liam shows up looking to interview her and her friend for a book he writing on what happened all those years ago. Strange things start to happen and Hannah is convinced that it is Eileen Wickham set on revenge.

We are slowly given an insight to what happened in the past when the group were thirteen years old, but it isn't until practically the end that the full story comes out. Along the way I was sure of who was as the bottom of it all and I give the author kudos on the red herrings making me go down one path only to discover how utterly wrong I was! I thought it was too easy to be a certain person but at the same time it felt so right.

The Sleepover was one of those books that will have you second guessing yourself and at the same time want the story to out in the open straight away, so much so that you will jot out this book down until all your questions are answered.

Keri has an amazing skill of storytelling. She draws you in from the very first page.
The Sleepover is the type of book I love. Creepy, harrowing, disturbing and has some fantastic twists.

The book is set between the present day and what happened twenty years ago.
Best friends the Hixton 5 are inseparable and over a long summer they would spend time riding around their small village and having a great time.

One afternoon whilst walking home Eileen Wickman and her teenage son Bill invited them all to their farmhouse so that they could hang out there and swim in the pond.
After that afternoon the five friends went to the farm everyday and Mrs W was the perfect neighbour, supplying them all with cookies and ice cream.

But when Hannah witnessed something she shouldn't have it shocked her so much that she didn't tell the others including her best friend Rosie.

Mrs W turned from being the best person to the most evil in a heartbeat.

After spending twenty years in prison Mrs W is out and when strange things start to happen to Hannah and Rosie they believe that Mrs W has come to seek her revenge.

With Liam an author of true crime fiction novels has suddenly turn up asking Hannah for an interview to what happened twenty years ago, is he really just after a story or something more sinister?

Split timelines, chapters told from multiple character POVs, lies and secrets galore…there’s a lot going on here that could confuse the reader, but somehow it all combines superbly and results in a dark but gripping thriller that left me wanting more with every turn of the page.

I wanted to know what happened in the barn when they were children. I NEEDED to know how the child died. I had so many theories about who Liam really was (none of them were right). So many questions built up and I’m so glad they were all answered by the end!

I really enjoyed this despite the disturbing themes involved; it kept me guessing throughout and there were a couple of twists at the end that I didn’t see coming. I’ll be looking at Keri Beevis’ other books for sure! 🔥

Thank you @rachelsrandomresources and @bookandtonic for my #gifted copy of The Sleepover 🙏🏻

This is a dark and disturbing read about a terrible childhood story of abuse and fear and what happens when the person responsible is freed from prison and it appears they may have revenge on their mind. It’s a really twister of a book and not to be missed.

This is another great book by this author. I really enjoyed it, and think it is the best one yet.
The story grabbed me from the first chapter and I was totally hooked. Each time I thought I had it all worked out another twist proved me wrong.
I enjoyed the multiple POVs which were mostly set in the present day.
Another book and author that I would definitely recommend.
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for this advance read.

A creepy read that is perfect for Spooktober. I’ve read a few of Ms. Beevis’ books but this one tops the list.

This psychological thriller is full of surprises and unpredictable twists. The author is terrific at disguising the killer and she left me hanging until the final reveal!

The Hixton Five is a gang of five inseparable girls—Hannah, Jill, Rosie, Tash, and Lauren. They have a rule—no boys allowed. But then they allow Miles in. Jill’s brother is always following along, anyway.

Their summer becomes even more enjoyable when they discover an exciting hangout with new friends. Everything is wonderful until the monster appears and Miles is gone.

ummer should be about friends, fun, laughter but for the Hixton Five, as they would come to be known, it was far from that, and that one fateful night would become a nightmare that they will care with them.

Eileen Wickham was a horrible person who did horrible things. She was sentenced and served her time but now she is out. She is out and strange menacing things have begun to happen. Is Eileen at the bottom of what has been happening? She is out for revenge? Are they safe?

The Hixton five are: Hannah, Rosie, Jill, Tasha, and Lauren. Some have moved on, but Rosie and Hannah are still dealing with what happened. Speaking of which, what did happen? The author will keep you guessing for most of the book.

Rosie and Hannah are approached by Liam Quinn, a journalist who wants to write a book about Eileen Wickham and would like their points of view. Skeptical at first, Hannah begins to warm to the idea.

This was an enjoyable book which kept me guessing. I wanted to know what happened to the Hixton five? I wanted to know who was behind everything. There are some twists and turns along the way. Some readers may have an inkling for, others I did not see coming.

Overall and enjoyable book which kept me guessing.

Really enjoyed this book twist and turns as I would like the only criticism I say,is that I'd have liked the author to have given a bit more depth with 2 of the characters in the book but apart from that smashing book:)

Told through multiple points of view, and timelines, friends who were once thick as thieves, have tried to move on with their lives after a traumatizing event in their childhood. We don’t get to that event right off. Instead, the story unfolds in pieces, in between following Hannah in her everyday life two decades later.

Hannah spends a good deal of her time helping her friend Rosie. While not called out as such, I would guess that Rosie has PTSD from that traumatic event in their childhood. Between self-medicating and other actions, it feels like that is what’s happening. And once we find out what really happened, it makes sense. Hannah, Rosie, and Liam are multi-dimensional characters, and while there are other characters, they aren’t as deep, which helps to keep the trio at the forefront of the story.

This book is twisted, and the monster referred to in the blurb is indeed a monster. Overall, the Sleepover is a fun read that draws you in with an intriguing storyline that’s vague enough to keep you reading to uncover its secrets. Readers are in for a few surprises with this one. Thank you, Boldwood Books, for sending this along.

My children are NOT going to a sleepover anytime soon!!! The Sleepover by Keri Beevis is a suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing until the end.
The story starts now, with a group of adults, who as children, experienced trauma from a trusted mom in town. The woman is released from prison and things start happening. The story time slips from 2002 to 2022.
I devoured this book in two days- it definitely gave me the chills. This is a good book to read right before Halloween. I look forward to reading more books by this author. Many thanks to the author, Boldwood Books and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Keri Beevis never fails to astound me with her novels. The Sleepover had me wanting to do nothing else but read, read, read until the last page. I can't even fathom how her mind came up with the very best twist at the end. I never, ever saw it coming! Great job on another winner, Ms. Beevis! Thank you!!!!

Hannah lives a quiet life, shielding herself from the horrible incident she faced with her friends 20 years ago. Scarred by the experience, she wants to forget she was ever part of the Hixton Five. But the perpetrator has done her time in prison and now she is out and free while a curious writer plans a book to document their history. You can't run from your secrets forever. And now its time to face the past again...

This book is absolutely captivating. From the intriguing cover to the varied character perspectives, the story is gripping and fast paced. Each chapter wraps you in the plot even further and I found myself promising myself one more chapter and then one more as I devoured the book. The characters are realistic and believable, adding to the need of the reader to find out what happens to the heroine - you believe in her and root for her.

A fantastic psychological thriller that leaves you continually guessing until the end.

Thank you to Keri Beevis, Netgalley and Bookwold Books for the opportunity to read this book as an ARC before publication.

The Sleepover kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. It had so many twists and turns that when I thought I knew where the story was going, bam, another twist came along and blew my theory out of the water.
I loved it and am definitely going to be reading more by this author in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my ARC.

An incredibly twisty, emotional read for those who like psychological thrillers that keep you guessing. I have read many other books by this author and the books never disappoint. The characters, even the disturbed ones, have something about them that makes you become invested. I felt all the pain and fear each character felt as they were dealing with different emotions. Even the location is described well without taking over the story. If you have not read any books by this author, go an get this one, then you will be hooked forever.

Do not miss this latest offering from the pen of Keri Beevis. It goes way beyond what you would expect from the genre of a phycological thriller.

The plot is exceptional and fast paced. Every chapter, whether telling of what happened 20 years ago or in the present day marries up perfectly. Half the time my heart was in my mouth hoping against hope that our heroine, Hannah, was not in danger. That the man she was falling in love with was who he said he was.

I really appreciated how the author explored the 20 year friendship between Hannah and Rosie. Their ups and downs and fallings out whilst always having each other’s back really made me think of these two women as real people.

All the twists were totally unexpected but so in keeping with the storyline. The ending floored me, not once, but twice!

I have to say, I have not come across a fictional character as chilling as Mrs W in long, long time.

A resounding 5 out of 5 stars from me!

I've read books from Keri Beevis before and always enjoyed them, so I was very excited to read another one by her. In true Beevie's style, this book is dark and keeps you guessing up until the end. Unlike her other books though, the pace is quite slow, and some of the twists were a bit predictable.

What Mrs W did to the girls was hinted through the whole story, but it wasn't actually revealed until very late in the book, at which point I was expecting a lot more. Not that what she did wasn't horrible, but with all the build up and trauma I thought it would be worse.

All in all though, if you like dark mysteries I'm sure you will enjoy this book.

Thank you NetGallery and Boldwood Books for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The monster who abused the Hixton Five has been locked away for 20 years. But now that she is free, weird things have started to happen to Hannah and Rosie, who are convinced the monster is back for her revenge.
What a wild ride, check your TW! Told in dual timeline (today and 20 years ago) and in multiple POVs, this dark thriller was sometimes hard to follow as I felt there was a lot of head hopping and no character had any real distinguishing voice. Also, the twists were kinda predictable, like, I didn't really see them coming, but I wasn't surprised either. Otherwise, the pace was good, and I was grabbed from page 2. However, I was way more invested in the 2002 timeline, as the author really gave us bit by bit the story of what happened back then.
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
