The Consistency Formula is a must-read for anyone that struggles with following through with tasks and goals. This book is a great read for anyone that has difficulty with completing activities and tasks. This book is an important read for anyone that struggles with procrastination.  Many times, we try to be consistent with achieving goals and tasks, but we are not able to be consistent. This book breaks it down and says that what contributes to a lack is subconscious beliefs.  As explained by Suzi Sung, all of our actions are based upon these beliefs. If we have the ability to change these beliefs, we can change our actions.  In order to change our behaviors/actions, we need to step outside of our comfort zone. I highly recommend this book. I absolutely know that one of my own big problems with pursuing any goal is a lack of consistency. Even when I feel absolutely motivated, the number of times something comes up to break a fledgling habit, and next thing I know weeks have passed… I don’t like it of myself. So a book called The Consistency Formula had huge appeal!

I’d love to say I found the magic spell here, but of course it doesn’t even exist. However, this is a well-written, lovely-toned little book that at least tries. It covers the main areas getting in the way, including self-doubt and procrastination. The first chapter is about inconsistency, a very brief look at why we might struggle.

We move on from that to the comfort zone, and how challenging it is to leave. I think there’s an additional point to be made here that sometimes life’s stresses – and boy are we jointly living through more than a few of those right now! – make this even harder. But also true that that falling back into old ruts is about staying put here.

The last step before we hit the ‘how to’ kind of stuff is called ‘Ego’. I like the tone here, it’s very reassuring that basically you have an inbuild self-defence against risk and so will come up with all kinds of great-sounding excuses not to build the habit you (think/said) you want.

So, all in all, there’s a lot of mental chatter that’s probably getting in your way more than you think. The discussion on these is decent, if brief.

And so onto ‘The Formula’! Again, it’s pretty brief and while solid advice it’s not magic – a lot of it boils down to the same ‘figure out your goals’ as if that simple statement doesn’t mask a hugely complex question! This book does attempt to hand-hold you through it all a bit, which is about as much as I think you can ask. Thinking about your goals, setting plans, and then some exercises to help. Again, though, it’s a lot of ‘do this’ and not necessarily going to work: “break down your goal into smaller goals” sounds great, and yes true, but…!

I might sound a little down on it all, but genuinely I feel it’s about as much as you can hope for. If there really was a magic formula, we wouldn’t need hundreds of books on the same topic! This one has a lot going for it in that busy field: it’s short enough not to go all a-waffling like most do. The advice is simple, if not easy, and there’s nothing ‘wrong’ with any of it. The tone is friendly but professional, and stays on the encouraging (not berating) side.

As ever, what you can take from a book like this is entirely on you. This approach might work more or less for you than others, but if it’s something you think might help then at least there’s no harm in giving the book a go.

Me? Yes, there are useful tips here, and I might even go back for a re-read. And I’ll keep trying – which is maybe as much as I can ask!

The Consistency Formula by Suzi Sung comes along side you and helps you build routines that will assist your mental health and help your days be better. Not only does Sung lead the way, but she teaches simple formulas that help you achieve your goals!

The Consistency Formula doesn't offer anything new in terms of productivity or self-help. However, I can appreciate the writing. It's concise, no non-sense, and completed with exercise that we could do immediately. I just hope it is longer (I only need 30 minutes to read it!) and or change it into a workbook entirely.

The Consistency Formula by Suzi Sung Impressive little book with no unnecessary filler or Psychobabble.  Common sense and realistic approaches to understanding the barriers holding you back and to fulfill you goals whether they be job related, healthy lifestyle or changing your negative mindset.  Worthwhile read.

This is a simple, short read on how to shift your ways of thinking by planning consistent practices. A good starting point, well explained and presented in manageable steps. My only downside is that I didn't enjoy the phrasing of some of it, a times it felt almost like negative reinforcement. But otherwise decent and practical.

A very encouraging and easy to understand book about what stops us being consistent, and what can help us. I’d recommend this as an introductory text because it will make you aware of where to look for issues blocking your desire to be consistent but may not have the depth to solve them all. Part of my lack of consistency was linked to childhood abuse, and I don’t think the book will be much use for solving that. But I would still highly recommend it to get a heads up on what to investigate next.

‘The Consistency Formula’ is a very straight forward book about creating goals and routines and following through with them. It quickly to describes what causes inconsistency and how to build better habits. Whenever we start to procrastinate and say things like “I don’t have time,” Sung includes retorts such as “Do I have time to clean the house? Scroll through TikTok?” etc. which helps put things into perspective whenever we start to make excuses. I also loved the quotes included in the book, they really enhanced each chapter. This book is super interesting. 
You could say that it is common sense - but I honestly think it's so much more than that. It deep dives into what makes you focussed. It looks at self sabotage and the 'ego' in so much depth - but without it feeling overwhelming. The chapters/sections are super short so it keeps you engaged. 
It's a great book to read in one go - but I can imagine, due to the short chapters, that it would be a good one to dip in and out of too.

This was a quick and interesting read. I liked the information about the subconscious, limiting beliefs and stepping outside of your comfort zone. I don’t think that the motivation techniques will help me, but I believe they will help others who are new to the self-help genre.
