Her Last Lie by Kyla Sharp
2/5 ⭐️
0/5 🌶

Setting: Sante Fe, NM
POV: single, 1st person, present tense
Genre: thriller/mystery

What I Liked: Naomi wakes up from a coma with a man who says he’s her husband. We then follow her journey to discover herself. This short thriller is about how social media can take over your life and reconciling your online persona with the cold, hard truth.

What I Disliked: A good thriller should suck you in and this book did not do it for me. It felt like we just went from place to place with no real sense of urgency until the very end.

Overall Thoughts: Meh. That’s all I’ve got.

Her Last Lie follows Naomi after she wakes up in hospital without a memory. Her husband Joel rushes her out and brings her home but she can't remember anything. Naomi has to trust Joel to rebuild her life as she discovers she's a famous influencer whose public online life has little to do with her real private life.

This book was a lot of fun to read. I will say, however, that the IG handles the author writes about belong to real people out there (I checked). Also, there's already a book out there called "Her Last Lie", which added to the confusion. I feel the author could've done more research to avoid mix-ups. I know I'd be annoyed if I saw my IG handle in a novel involving deception!

Since I'm familiar with the influencer world, I didn't find this book to be a mystery, and the end was rather easy to figure out, athough it didn't take away from the novel. As someone who moves in those circles (although not a bona fide influencer myself) I can honestly say the novel opens a door to the real life of influencers. Although embellished, I kept thinking "yup, this or that influencer would totally do that if they could get away with it" as I read the story. So the novel is worth it even if it's just to get a glimpse of that world.

The ending was absolutely insane, too! I liked the extra twist!

All in all, a fantastic read!!

Naomi has an accident and when she wakes up in hospital, she has no memory of even who she is. Her husband, Joel spirits her out of hospital to a remote house in the desert, and tries to help her regain her memory.
He gets a nurse to assist, and the nurse recogizes Naomi as an Instagram influencer, and shows her the page with photos of Naomi and her real husband, who is not the Joel that has kept her hidden from the public.
Naomi attacks the fake husband and escapes to find out who she really is, and find her real husband, and finds that she is not the Naomi that she used to be.

I really liked this intriguing book. I read it in one sitting. It was a fantastic quick read that kept my attention throughout. I would like to read more of the author's books, in the hope that they are as riveting as this one.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the concept of the story, it started of really well but I struggled to get into, it was to slow paced for me.

I love this author. Her books are feral. A million crazy things happen one after another and you don't want to look away for even a second. It is rush of ridiculousness. This book was that and more.
My gawd! This reminded me of working in the bar and people just telling you stories you know are lies but they are so interesting you just let them speak for a while.
Thank you for the ARC. I really enjoyed it.

Thank you NetGalley, Inkubator Books and Kyla Sharp for letting me read “Her Last Lie” in exchange for an honest review.

A fabulous quick read!

Naomi wakes up in a hospital. All her memories are gone. She just remembers her first thoughts being something like “selfie… Botox…”?! Everything else is gone. She suffered from severe head trauma after taking quite the fall of a balcony.

Then there is her “husband Joel” who swipes her away in a hurry from the hospital, saying that they are not taking good enough care of her. Naomi does not remember being married to Joel. Joel does not give away a lot, in order to “not overwhelm her”. But what he tells her does not make sense.

Naomi is having doubts. Who is she? Is she really married to a man she does not recognise? Why does Joel tell her that she is in danger?
She slowly figured out that she is an influencer on social media. Is her life really as perfect as she portrayed it to be?! Will she get her memories back and what is the last lie she told?
I had a hunch about the ending from an early start. The culprit creeped me out early on. But still, this books had twist and turn. Some subtle, some not.

I might have read stories similar to this. But I liked this one. I liked the social media influence. Even though I am hardly on social media, I find these kind of stories really intriguing. What all we give away on a little screen, could lead to dire consequences. How much should we really tell?

We get Naomi’s POV and see her struggle to remember. We feel her confusion and her emotions. I liked the way she was portrayed. I think she was a fantastic character, at least after her injuries.

For once the heroine knows to get the hell out of there and does not wait for her captor to take up! Ten points alone for that! Though it’s maybe slightly unrealistic that she walks miles and miles through the desert/highway barefoot and in a robe. But the story was that good,
I don’t even care for that!

I was reading this one fairly quickly, I did not want to put it down. I was really absorbed into the story. Not one boring moment.

I loved the concept of this. A women awakens in hospital with no memory of what happened and is taken to a remote house by a man who says he is her husband Joel however something doesn't seem right and Naomi starts to investigate on her own.

The book is incredibly action packed with loads of twists and turns that I did not see coming. I enjoyed the fact that it was told from Naomi's point of view so the reader journeyed with her.

Although some parts were slightly unrealistic such as walking for hours in the dessert in bare feet and a bath robe the book was so engrossing and well written that I genuinely didn't care.

I also enjoyed the commentary on the affect of social media influencers and how thought it was thoughtfully portrayed.

The book was utterly gripping to the point that I finished it in one day and shall definitely be reading more from this author.

This book blew me away and was absolutely not what I was expecting it ot be. At all!! Its very cleverly written and layered with multiple themes running throughout. I loved the characters and the many different sides to them. They're very well rounded and realistically written and the plot itsself is very modern and relevant. I flew through this in a day and just couldn't put it down, it will have you guessing over and over and over! Such an amazing read

This book was sent to me by Netgalley electronically for review. The main character has lost her memory. She woke up in a hospital with a man pretending to know her..or so she thought…her journey to discover her true identity and get her life back is at times beyond reason. This story is unique. Others recognize her and some try to help her. Intrigue…the story moves slowly at times…it is different…
