I'm not sure the blurb does this debut justice, because I wasn't sure what to expect, but from the first pages, I was IN. I love dual timelines and this one delivered. I found myself equally interested and invested in Mari's story in 2014 as I was with Silvy's in 1913, which is hard to achieve as a writer. The pace was perfect, the mystery unfolded expertly, and I didn't want it to end. All a recipe for a wonderful journey.

I was drawn to this book as it is about a lighthouse. A favourite topic of mine.
Written through 2 different eras, story is told about the planning of building a lighthouse built in Nico's name which over the years falls in to the sea and 2014 where Mari is hired to find the lighthouse in the sea.
Too many characters going about from different families for me to keep up with to be honest but enjoyable enough to follow some of the main characters. Chapters are labelled up with a person and year so we can keep track of that well enough.
Great debut novel though. Really enjoyed reading this. Very atmospheric and some exciting scenes well written. Some gripping moments.
Looking forward to seeing Phoebe next book

Thank you NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for this advance reader copy of Swan Light.
This book pulled me in with that beautiful cover and description. The story made me get that intangible feeling of time seeping through your fingers like grains of sand. I enjoyed the alternating timelines and narratives, with elements of romance being well incorporated into the story. A great read overall.

This is a must read for 2022 (or 2023 when its published :) )- thank you netgalley & the publisher for the ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

I don't know what I was expecting from this book, but I was certainly not expecting to fall as head over heels in love as I did. The writing had been turning the pages late into the night, and I was impressed to discover this was a debut - the narrative voice and style felt incredibly assured and strong, a real talent. You could also tell how much research had gone into the novel and it was to its benefit. Brava!

Stop! Wow! I was not expecting this..😍 from page one I could not stop reading.
Loved the writing style and I am a huge fan of jumping timelines.
So highly recommend this one !

Wow. I don’t know what I was expecting when I started this book, but it ended up being so much more! Having two different timelines is always fun, and the author did a great job flipping between the two, and cutting chapters at such a point that all I wanted to do was keep reading! By the end of the novel, I felt such a connection to the characters and was truly invested in how their stories played out. The author did a great job researching lighthouses and historical facts to make the plot line believable and compelling.

Phoebe Rowe’s debut novel instantly captivated me with her writing.I immediately fell in love the recluse Silvy Swan, enjoying seeing his character blossom throughout the novel. Each character is given the chance to properly develop without hindering their growth or other characters. I savored the alternating timelines, making my own assumptions to what happened to Swan Light and who Evangeline Devon really was. Towards the climax of the novel, I felt that adding additional perspectives took away from plot and made the timeline of events more difficult to follow. Though certain details seen in these chapters are important, I do not believe them to be vital enough to create the supplemental chapters and thus perspectives when they could easily be incorporated in to the current two perspectives. I also was disappointed to see the inclusion of an unnecessary romance. The kindling romance felt forced between Mari and Julian. It seemed an additional way to show growth, when in reality it did the opposite. It took away from the overall development of the two characters, seemingly created as a filler. Overall, as a debut novel, Rowe does an excellent job at captivating her audience with her characters and writing. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for this novel.

A wonderful debut novel that kept me reading all through the night. The story is set in two time periods centering around a light house. In the present, what happened to the lighthouse and the people involved with it; the past introduces the the characters who are involved with it. I will highly recommend this book and look forward to reading the next book from this author.

This author was new to me and I really enjoyed this novel. The writing gripped me from the first chapter and I found myself devouring the book as I was eager to find out what happened. At moments, some of the later chapters felt convoluted and I struggled to 100% follow the events with Clara however overall I really enjoyed this book and would read more by the author.
