What is this book, you ask? It is a ‘clear and concise yet comprehensive without being cluttered’ package of information about the United States. And yes, both artwork and narrative are fun and appealing.

It has a fun fact-filled two-page spread for each state in the United States, and also includes Washington D.C. and the US territories. Each spread includes information from the basics (key facts, capital, flag etc) to more fascinating historical and cultural facts among other things. It also includes famous and influential people from each state, some of whom I heard of first from this book. I enjoyed the graphics, text-boxes, and factoids as well as the visuals spread throughout each page and across the book, which lend atmosphere and color and fun details to each featured place.

A great book for all who want to learn more about the states in the USA, and a wonderful addition for homeschools and classrooms too.

This is such a fun, visually stimulating tour of the United States. I don't know that I could read the whole thing in one sitting, but it could be a great way to introduce a child to one state at a time! I learned some things I didn't know about my home state and love that they included some lesser known facts!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I have a special place in my reader's heart for thoughtful, engaging non-fiction for kids, and this absolutely fits the bill! I love the consistent and eye-catching formatting and the diverse people and events selected for each state. I've just added this to an order list for our library and can't wait to get it on display!

First of all, thank you so much to Margeaux Weston, Sarosh Arif, Wide Eyed Editions, and Netgalley for giving me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.
I think this book is such a cool edition for American kids, kids with American heritage, or tiny geography fans. I didn't know more about each state as I'm a foreigner but it has a lot of cool information about each state: two pages for general story, famous people, important activities/cities/foods, and nature.
Two big plus in my opinion are: the acknowledgment of European colonization and also the relevance of the presence of native people and their names.

This is a real nice book....offering a lot of good unique tidbits about each state, D.C., & the U.S. Territories. Each locale is presented with a map in the general shape of it's state, & then little sprigs of info are positioned around the map/shape. Local cultural traditions are highlighted along with different locally specific foods, religions, people indigenous to the area, & others who've immigrated there are noted. Things unique to the state, state populations & state capitols are mentioned too. And it's all tied together with very nice colorful artwork! "We Are the United States" shows us what a diverse group of people we are! A 3.5 is a more accurate rating. It's a good, positive book.....& I enjoyed it, & would recommend it! I might guess that it might be aimed at middle grade level kids, but adults might learn something & enjoy it too!
I received an e-copy of this book from Quarto Publishing Group-Wide Eyed Editions via NetGalley for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

This is such a fun reference book on the USA! It has a 2 page spread for every state that includes basic info (capital, population) but then goes on to highlight festivals/landmarks unique to that state along with famous people born there. It's got a nice selection of politicians, musicians, famous historical contributors, actors, humanitarians and lots of diversity. I like the fun colors that draw the reader in. The pictures are fun and engaging. This is perfect for homeschoolers and classrooms or to add to a home library! There's a lot to learn within these pages. I appreciate that they included Washington D.C. and the territories. Really well done! It's not dry and boring but fun facts that will intrigue kids and adults alike!

My daughter and I loved exploring this book together. The illustrations and the wonderful information provided within was so fun and educational! It was so exciting to read about all of the diverse community members that make our country. This book provided a great jumping point for important dialogue for my daughter and I and we cannot wait to add the physical copy to our home library.

We are the United States is a great, child
friendly Geographic breakdown of the US with tones of extra informative like important residents, cultural and historical facts and of course key facts like capital city and population. What still boggles my mind is that Mardi Gras began in Alabama, which reminds me. Thank you for acknowledging when a stated past was ugly. Not speaking about racism past or present does not make it go away.

This is one of the best collections of state’s information I have seen. It is great for upper elementary students and should be included in every school library. The colorful graphics will appeal to students. I appreciate that influential people from each state were included and that they weren’t necessarily the first “famous” person that would come to mind for the state. It was comprehensive with a lot of content on each state’s spread without being overwhelming or cluttered. The information represents many cultures and the regional highlights were spot on. I’m glad Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa and Northern Mariana Islands were all included.

Fantastic book! The illustrations are beautiful and the information is easy to digest. Amazon lists the target ages as 5-9 years old but I would say it's more appropriate for 8 and up. My 6 year old did not sit still for this. It would be a great companion when studying states in school.

Thanks NetGalley for the book!

Thank you, Quarto Publishing Group - Wide Eyed Editions, for the advance reading copy.

Wow That's a lot in just a few pages. I love the content, the illustrations and the information though concise and thorough as they are. However, I feel the pages and the presentation are somehow a bit congested and I am concerned regarding the target audience.

I absolutely adore this book! It’s great for all children and I even learned a few interesting things as an adult. 5th-6th graders will especially find this book as a useful resource as they begin studying the states and capitals in these grades!
The graphics throughout the book are bright and colorful and consistent throughout. I also really enjoyed the snapshots of famous people from a state and what they accomplished.

This book contains a colorful two page spread for every state. Included are things that make each state unique, famous people associated with that state, the state flag, and many other fascinating facts. I began by looking at the state where I grew up and learned things that I had not known. This book also addresses issues of past history such as discrimination and changes that have taken place historically.

I would have loved this book when I was a kid. It is engaging and can be dipped into in any order. It really shows the breadth and depth of the country.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group-Wide Eyed Editions for this title. All opinions are my own.
