I got to go through this with a group of women looking to experience the 40 Day Feast together shortly after we finished another book by Wendy Speake named the 40 Day Sugar Fast. One thing I've learned through reading scripture is that it isn't enough to just put things away or stop bad habits. Your "house", or in this case, your heart, needs to be filled back up with the good stuff. Scripture is full of contrasts of the "put offs" but also the "put ons."

I think this is the really wonderful thing that occurred while doing these books in tandem. We gave up sugar for 40 days and then refocused completely in God's word. I loved that Wendy didn't try to put words in God's mouth, but constantly turned us to scripture to find the deliciousness and bounty within.

It does seem like a book best experienced with community, but now that I have a copy, I have every intention of continuing this practice and pulling it out each year for a reset. It contains 40 short and manageable chapters and I did not want the 40 days to end. I was refreshed and encouraged.

I just leave with this exercise that Wendy encouraged:

FEAST
Fasting in faith
Eagerly asking for God's presence
Asking for community
Sustained by scripture
Tasting the goodness of God

I loved this feast. I have previously participated in both of Wendy’s other 40 day books (sugar fast and social media fast), and this book is such a great addition. It made me hungry to go deeper into Gods word which I loved!

Definitely recommend this and Wendy’s other books!

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for a free ebook in exchange for an honest review.

This book is about more than just healthy eating and I think this book could be very helpful for someone looking to explore more about why they eat as they do.

Didn't finish - tried twice to connect with 40 day fast to go along with group. Never got a single contact or info on how to process so I gave up.

A great jump-start to reading the Bible. If you haven't read the Bible before, you're encouraged to start. And if you've read it before, no matter how many/few times, you're welcome to read it again. Read it slowly, thoughtfully. Let the words sink into your heart.

Enjoyed this book - I look forward to reading more from this author - I own her two previous books as well.

This is an enjoyable devotional. I love that the explanation portion is a bit longer than the average devotional. The Bible reading is a good length. I think my absolute favorite is the "Food for Thought". It offers good prompts for those who like to journal.

40 Day Feast is a journey into exploring more of God's word. This is not a cookbook, nor is it a diet book on fasting (as some have thought). The idea is to read one chapter a day. They are to give you a taste of what can be found in the Bible. Suggested Bible passage readings are given to meditate and pray on. Following that is more reading and thoughts to reflect on. Basically, the idea is her insight is the "appetizer" or means to encourage further reading and exploration, or "feasting" in the Bible. I can see this use as both a personal Bible study as well as a small group Bible study. With the struggle to really get into the Word and study it, this might be what encourages us to really explore and learn. To develop a hunger for reading daily. I received a copy through NetGalley. The honest opinions in this review are my own.

Wendy Speake nails it again! What a wonderful study in focusing our full attention on the source of all wisdom, joy, and hope in this life!
Our Women’s Bible Study did the 40 day Sugar Fast together in January (2023). The experience bonded us together in ways I never expected and we found ourselves with a growing group of women… HUNGRY for more of Jesus and more of His Word! Thankfully the FEAST was released just in time and we lost no momentum as we rolled right into the feast from the fast!
I can’t recommend this enough for personal study or for a Bible study group!

I have read multiple of Wendy Speake's books and again she does not disappoint!

The 40 Day Feast is all about filling one's self up with the good and Holy Word of God! Unlike Wendy's first two books - which asked readers to identifying the things we put in place of God and turn to when life becomes stressful, when we are bored or overwhelmed, the 40 Day Feast helps us to develop an appetite for the Bible.

Structured in the same fashion as the 40 Day Sugar Fast & 40 Day Social Media Fast with short devotional-like chapters, the 40 Day Feast is a launching point to get readers into a daily and lifelong habit of reading the Bible, the Word of God. This book was not intended to be a comprehensive explanation of the Bible, rather an introductory tool emphasizing the need to savor each bite of the Holy Word we ingest (read) and apply the biblical truths to our daily lives.

Whether you have been a Christian for a couple of days or decades, The 40 Day Feast will ignite a passion and hunger for God's Word in a new way that will have us being both a Bible believing AND Bible reading society.

LOVED The 40-Day Feast. Wendy does an incredible job slowing down the Word so you can take it in one bite at a time. I was hesitant on this book because her others are so great at helping you remove nasty habits. I didn’t know what adding more to my plate would look like. But when it’s the Word of God that you add, you cannot go wrong. Beautifully written.

Thank you to NetGalley and Baker Books for allowing me to read this ARC of The 40-Day Feast. My thoughts are my own.

This book is great for the woman looking to deepen her walk with God. I feel like this would be really good for any woman not familiar with Bible study and wanting to get into the habit of daily reading and relaxation.

The 40-Day Feast is Wendy Speake's third 40 day journey. She adds personal insights to each of her books to encourage her readers in their quest to change a portion of their life.
I think the 40-Day Feast is a great tool for new Christians or those who haven't read the Bible consistently and would like to learn how to dig deeper in the Bible. Wendy starts will a Bible verse followed by tips on reading the Bible better thought more verses and personal insight and followed by a bigger chuck of Bible reading.
What I loved was that Wendy teaches how to read the Bible and learn how to take away in knowing more about the Bible and what God is teaching the reader. New believers will benefit from Wendy's wisdom. I was hoping for more advice to more mature Christians who have been faithful Bible reading and want to know more about deeper Bible study.
I received a complimentary copy of The 40 Day Feast thanks to Baker Publishing and NetGalley, but all opinions are my own.

A needed reminder to feast on thee word instead of others things that distract us from the Lord. A 40 day feast is exact what I needed for 2023.

Wendy once again does not disappoint. I have read several of her books. Wendy does a great job of using her own personal struggles to encourage others. 40 Day Feast was a great example of how digging deeper in the Bible not only encourages us but also strengthens us to face our life challenges.

Similar to Speake's 40-Day Sugar Fast this book is set up devotional-style.
Beautifully written as if she's partaking in feast (rather than a fast) she gives points to taste, chew on, savor and take with you.
Very applicable to your daily walk with the Lord, struggles we all encounter, and keeping the feast (the Word) before you, even when you are tired and weary.
I loved how she kept Psalm 34:8, "taste and see" ever before you. Taste. Don't just devour; to taste we must slow down. That was pivotal to me.

This 40-day devotional was just what I needed to whet my appetite for God's Word. I have read through the Bible many times in my adult life and my husband and I read each morning together before he goes to work. But this devotional helped me to LONG for my time with Jesus each day. My duty turned into longing (desire) and I pray that God continues to speak to me in His Word as I continue to feast on it.
