In a very simple way this book reminds us that all families are the same; that when a loving parent goes away, their child misses them and counts the days until their return.

A sweet story about a girl missing her Mommy while she’s away on a work trip. LaCour shows the bonding between Mama and the girl while Mommy is away. LaCour balances that with how having one parent gone can unsettle a routine, even going so far as to feel abandoned and angry when Mommy returns. This is a beautiful story and great for helping children to understand about a parent being gone for longer than normal.

I LOVED THIS. This was such a sweet story! I love anything involving diverse families, so this one really hit home for me. And I love when you can just feel the love and warmth radiating off of the page. With this one, you can.

Sweet & wholesome, quick bedtime read for small children. Narration was slow but still appropriate for a calm reading. The cover is also stunning!

(ALC received from NetGalley in exchange for honest review. Thank you.)

Sweet book that should be inside any children’s level classroom. It showcases a diverse family and leaves young readers with a positive message of inclusivity!!

Despite having a title that is very similar to the groundbreaking Leslea Newman children's book, Mama, Mommy and Me (which came out in 2009), this is an original story about a little girl being raised by two moms who has to deal with missing her mother when she's away on a business trip. The book tells the story of a little girl who counts down the days while her Mommy is away, and how the routines of her family life carried on by her Mama help the time pass more easily. The narration in the advanced copy audio book generously given to me by Netgalley is excellent, though I was disappointed that the ARC showed no pictures. (Perhaps a glitch?) But I looked at the pictures in samples and online and the illustrations are delightful. While the original Mama, Mommy and Me was just written to show children that there are all kinds of families, including lesbian moms raising children together, this book would be excellent to read to any child who is missing a parent who travels and/or a family with parents of different races-- and the message about lesbian parents would just be a side note (though the title makes it seem like the main idea, it isn't). Highly recommend for all kinds of families.

I wasn't a huge fan of this audiobook. The story was good, but I didn't enjoy the narration very much. The voice she used as the child was honestly a bit annoying. The voices of mama and mommy were good though. She did a good job of expressing the emotions in the voices and changing her voice for each character. Some parts felt like they were a bit stiff but others flowed really well.

Sweet little book about missing family members when they are away. The book showed how we can adapt to new schedules and manage emotions while still keeping traditions. Would be a sweet storytime book.

I found the dialogue difficult to follow. The story was great! But the audiobook itself was not my favourite for the story. Thanks for the opportunity to read it!

The perfect book for families where one (or both) parents travel for work. As the little girl is kept entertained by Mama, thoughts of Mommy are never far from her mind.

The bonus here, is how Nina LaCour represents LGBTQ+ families. The point is simply that the child misses the parent who isn't home. Nothing is mentioned about having two moms or that anything is different in this household.

A sweet story, beautifully told.

The audio version is nicely performed by Marion Toro. Ms. Toro's musical voice is sure to grab the attention of adults and children alike.

And mama, mommy and me A little person has to say goodbye to her mommy because she is going on a business trip. She notices the differences while mommy is gone like not getting her favorite blueberries at the store and when they eat lunch she is on the side of mama and not in the middle of both of her parents. She also gets comfort from her friends at the circle group when they discuss people that they miss. She also creates a surprise for mommy’s return. This was such a cute story about a little girl missing her parents when they go away for business and all the things she does occupy herself until her parent comes home. I thought this was adorable and can’t wait to share it with the little person in my life. This is a great book for those who want to represent LGBTQ families as the normal families they are because unlike a lot of books in this genre they don’t even mention how they are perceived by others in the holy point of the story is to show how much the little girl misses her mommy ! A really great children’s book I listen to it on audio and thought the narrator sounded adorable. I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving my review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

From what I am able to gather from the audio, this is a delightful children’s book. I adore the LGBTIA+ representation! I love that there are audio versions of children’s books to provide access to all level of abilities.

Mama and Mommy and Me in the Middle
4.5 Stars

The narration was awesome. She did a great job voicing many characters, both male and female. She did a fabulous job voicing the little girl (but a bit forced at times).

This is a cute little story about a girl missing her mommy while she's away on a work trip. This would be a great book to prepare a youngster for a brief separation from a loved one. It does a good job preparing them for the experience and gives suggestions to cope with the feelings.

I appreciated the use of non-traditional families. This book is a great way to start the conversation: all families are different, and that's OK. Families are diverse and I see literature reflecting that. Thank you, NetGalley and Dreamscape Media, for an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Mama and Mommy and Me in the Middle by Nina LaCour

Representation: Sapphic

Mama and Mommy and Me in the Middle is the story of a little girl who misses her Mommy when she leaves for a week for work. The story illustrates the feeling of missing a parent and the coping skills for dealing with it.

What a fantastic story! I love the idea of showing kids how families come in all shapes and sizes. This book touches on the reality of having a working mom and the sadness felt when they have to travel for work. I absolutely loved this story and the illustrations were amazing! The narrator also does an amazing job at capturing the innocence of the little girl.
