It's early morning and photographer Emma takes pictures of a misty coastline. The picture contains a dead body..
Can she work with local detective Matthias Honeywell to solve the case?
Can she overcome her fear as Matt reminds her of her ex-fiance, and stalker?

A new series from Annette Dashofy that has characters you can connect with.

When Erie Police Detective Matthias Honeywell and his partner, Dt. Cassie Malone, find themselves investigating 2 home invasions, with murder added in one of them, it requires a lot of different areas of investigation.

Freelance photographer Emma Anderson is hiding out in a RV trailer park. Her abusive boyfriend has her terrified, while her missing sister has her staying in Erie hoping for contact.

A well done investigation with fast-paced action takes this our of a cozy and into a thriller-suspense novel set on the shores of Lake Erie.

I am looking forward to more novels featuring these characters.

In this first book of a new series, we are introduced to Matthias Honeywell and his partner Cassie Malone, detectives in Erie, Pennsylvania. They have a good relationship and work well together.

When free-lance photographer Emma Anderson inadvertently photographs a dead body in debris washed ashore on Lake Erie, she is thrust into the investigation of a murder. Additionally, Emma has fled an abusive relationship and feels she is being stalked by her ex.

This book has multiple story lines that mesh together seamlessly, and the pages turn quickly. The characters are well developed, I look forward to reading the next installment in this series.

Thank you, Harper Collins-UK One More Chapter and Net Galley for the advanced copy of this book. The comments above are my own.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story - likeable characters (a couple of them at least) and some nasty baddies and an enjoyable police mystery. I will definitely read further books in this series. Recommended.

The first installment to an new nail biting series. Emma is trying to start a new life until she stumbles on a body while taking pictures for a publication.. this in turn weaves her way into a home invasion investigation and the police. Lots of twists reveal themselves as she unwittingly becomes an integral part of the investigation and the past starts to punish her. A real page turner and I’m already excited to see where the next novel in the series takes her.

Thank you NetGalley for this arc

Emma doesn’t want to be noticed. She would love to blend in with the locals in Erie, PA, and go about her business as lowkey and quietly as possible. All is well and good until she realizes, after a rainy morning of taking snapshots along the coast of the lake, one of the images contains a human arm.
She reluctantly alerts the police, but her very reluctance pushes her to the top of the suspect heap. She has some life-threatening concerns of her own, and walking the fine line between cooperating with the investigation and keeping herself out of the limelight proves to be painfully impossible.
As those few who befriended her seem to fall victim to harm, the clock is counting down on who will solve which crime first. A quick-paced and enjoyable nail-biter that has its claws in you until the bitter end.
Thanks to Harper Collins UK- One More Chapter for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. The publishing date is January 20, 2023.

Thank you for the advanced readers copy for an honest opinion.

This was a good book told from the point of view of the police and the main character Emma.
Emma is a photographer who has left an abusive relationship and is starting over, she takes a picture of debris floating on the beach only to figure out it’s a dead body.

You’ll have to read this book to find out the rest, you won’t be disappointed

Where the Guilty Hide is the start of a new series that captured my undivided attention.

Emma a photographer, who has her own secrets, inadvertently captures a dead body in trash.

The police have their hands full as they are also investigating home invasions in the area and one of the victims is missing.

We meet Detective Matthias Honeywell and his partner Cassie. The pair work well together.

The pages turn quickly, lots of twists and turns and bodies piling up.

I am excited to read Book 2 in the story and watch the characters of Matthias and Cassie grow as we follow them on their next case.

Annette Dashofy has a new fan and I am off to investigate her other books.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for a page turning read.

A solid, well-written police procedural set in Erie.
Honeywell and Malone make a likeable duo of detectives on the trail of a crew of armed home robbers.
Emma is an engaging freelance photographer - with a backstory that provides much of the suspense of the piece - who unwittingly becomes connected to the police investigation.
I would read another book by this author. Where the Guilty Hide would make a promising first outing for a police series.
With thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy in exchange for an independent review.

I received a gifted copy and am providing a review. (Publishing January 2023.)
I have never heard of Ms. Dashofy but I am so glad I have now! I look forward to reading more from her. If you’ve never heard of her or read any of her books, I would encourage you to do so. I’m sure, like me, you’ll add her to your list of favorites in no time.
Emma finds herself trying to escape her past, but everywhere she looks she feels like she’s being watched. She ends up hiding out in a campground in Erie, but not only is she trying to escape her past, she is also trying to find her sister, Nell. Nell’s last known residence was in Erie … somewhere. For employment, Emma works as a freelance photographer for a couple of different publications. She is almost out of money when she gets an opportunity to work on a project for a friend of hers, taking pictures for a project he’s working on. Along the way, she finds herself taking a walk along the beach, noticing a yoga class, all the while taking pictures of what catches her eye - the seagulls, the water, the clouds, a pile of trash … or at least it appears to be a pile of trash. Little does she know what would happen after she took that picture. Enter Detective Matthias and his partner. Enter a case of some home invasions, but how are they tied to this picture?
If you like a story that has multiple different story lines that all tie together in the end, this tale is sure to keep you turning the pages!

Set in coastal Pennsylvania, Where the Guilty Hide is the first in the new Detective Matthias Honeywell Mystery series. When freelance photographer (with a past) Emma takes photos of the rugged coastline little does she know her life will take a u-turn very soon. She has courageously fled a recent abusive relationship and she senses her stalker wherever she goes. A pile of garbage washed up onto the beach and a beach yoga class becomes photographic interest. As Emma's finances are grim she lives in a trailer park, complete with interesting neighbours (the potential for future books...!). She is also faced with an ethical dilemma.

Not only do Detectives Matthias Honeywell and Cassie Malone investigate murder but there is also a string of break ins which put people on edge and lives on the line. Emma is also anxious to find her missing drug addict sister. She closes herself out from the world in ways but by the end of the book bits of the walls she's built are chiseled away. Matthias has a history, too, and I look forward to learning more.

I like that author Annette Dashofy doesn't do handholding. The plot and subplots enmesh beautifully as well.

My sincere thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for providing me with an early digital copy of this fascinating mystery and for introducing me to this series. Wonder what the author has in store for us in the next installment?!

Where The Guilty Hide is the first book I've read by Annette Dashofy and I really enjoyed it.

Freelance photographer Emma Anderson is a troubled young woman.. Fleeing her controlling partner she has moved to a Trailer Park in the town of Erie,Pennsylvania to escape his clutches and also to continue the hunt for her estranged sister, whose last contact was from the town. She takes a morning beach stroll snapping as she walks and while studying the pictures afterwards discovers that she's inadvertently photographed a body washed up with some driftwood on the shore.
Meanwhile local Detectives Matthias Honeywell and Cassie Malone are investigating a spate of Home Invasions. In the most recent one it appears that one of the victims has heroically set off in pursuit of the robbers, though a cynical Cassie Malone has another theory. Things become murkier when Emma's discovery and the Home Invasion case become linked.

This is a very entertaining story as Matthias and Emma get off on the wrong foot straight away, even before the fateful picture is taken. With the police suspicious of her , the feeling that she is being watched and bad things happening all around her Emma's life is far from the fresh start she was hoping for. There's a clever plot, plenty of red herrings, car chases, fights and never a dull moment or lull in the action.
The really good news is that this is the first book in a new series, with a cast of interesting and diverse characters and the hunt for Emma's missing sister still not resolved I'm looking forward to the next episode.

I received a free copy of, Where the Guilty Hide, by Annette Dashofy, , from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The last thing Emma expects to find while photographing, is a dead body. Emma wanted to get away from her past and start over, now she is in the middle of a murder investigation. This book was really good, well written and well paced.

I really liked this new series! I’m a huge fan of this writers other series and her stand alone (which I wish was a series) I can’t wait to read more. I hope it’s a very long series. I highly recommend any of her work.

This was a great thrill ride! Photographer Emma is in the middle of an investigation when she accidentally captures a dead body in the middle of one of her innocuous pictures. The investigative team of Mathias and Cassie are sure she is involved somehow until they begin interviews and realize she may have been inadvertently taking a photo of something else, even as they begin to look into a string of home invasions along with a murder. Lots of suspects, many red herrings, and action that leads them in so many directions! I love that this will be part of a series as I'm already invested in these characters and can't wait to see where they are headed next!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!

Where the Guilty Hide is an immersive and outstanding read. This book involves the convergence of two storylines; Detectives Matthias Honeywell and Cassie Malone investigating a series of break-ins in Lake Erie, and Emma Anderson, a photographer unknowingly capturing a murder victim through the lens. Annette Dashofy does an incredible job with pacing and the revelations that binds the storylines together, the character development of Matthias and Emma and the unexpected twist that leaves the reader captivated and mesmerised. A thorough police procedural with an incredible mix of supporting characters meant to keep you on your toes. At times the description of the characters got repetitive which slightly dimmed my reading experience. Small towns indeed hold plenty of secrets unveiled at critical points, which makes this read utterly satisfying. This is my first book by Annette, and I look forward to reading more of her work.

Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter for giving me an e-ARC. This honest review is left voluntarily.

This is a good read with a number of strands coming together at the climax. Well written, it grips the reader’s attention from beginning to end. Set in Pennsylvania, there have been burglaries in three cities each of which has similarities. The resident families are tied up while their treasured possessions are stolen. But the one householder escapes and follows the escaping vehicle. His body is found on a beach, the photograph of it being taken by a local professional photographer. Emma Anderson is trying to put together her professional life after escaping from an abusive husband whom she believes is stalking her. She developes a connection with Matthias who with Cassie leads the investigation. All these bits come together at the end in a dramatic if not entirely unpredictable finale. This is a well written and good read. I recommend it.
