2.5- I thought this book was okay but I just didn’t really care for it. I really enjoyed Harry and Sally’s characters but the side characters were honestly some of the most annoying characters I’ve ever read about 😅 I also feel like the book got super repetitive and it was hard for me to keep interest throughout the entire thing.

Thank you NetGalley for the arc!

Kathryn Freeman is the author of many well-known, well-loved novels, such as "The Italian Job" and "The Beach Reads Book Club," Having read and enjoyed Freeman's books previously, I was excited to see that she had a new novel coming out. "Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner" is centered around Sally, a total romantic at heart who has seen and can quote every romcom movie. When Sally crosses paths with Harry, a man who has been burned when it comes to love and is cynical about all things romance. Upon becoming roommates, they accidentally become Tiktok famous when they begin to reenact famous scenes from romcom movies. Along the way, sparks fly, Sally tries to guard her heart, while Harry has to decide if love is in the cards for him.

I enjoyed this very current and original storyline idea! However, I didn't really feel the chemistry between Sally and Harry which made the book not as enjoyable for me. I'll still tune in for Freeman's next book, though. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I was looking forward to reading this one as I like watching and reading romcoms so a book based on recreating romcom moments seemed a good basis. Sadly, while I did enjoy it, I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to.

I enjoyed reading the scenes of Sally and Harry recreating the movie moments and it was sweet to see Harry and Sally go from messing around filming them to actually falling for each other. The chemistry was there between the characters so that was good.

One thing that bothered me is that, despite loving romance, Sally couldn't understand that Harry communicated his feelings differently to her and that he had different perceptions of love. It was like she wasn't willing to accept that he could love her just because he did things differently to her. Also, Harry is portrayed as grumpy and Sally as sunshine, but the only 'grumpy' thing about Harry is that he doesn't like romcoms - apart from that he's a really nice guy.

I am a big fan of Romantic Comedy films. So when I saw this book’s title and cover, my interest was immediately piqued. Thank you NetGalley and One More Chapter/Harper Collins for the Advance Review Copy. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

When Harry met Sally in the first few pages of the book and the two of them become roommates, you can kind of guess where this might be headed. On a Margarita filled night the two of them decide to reenact the lift from Dirty Dancing. Sally uploads the video of the hilarious attempt to TikTok and a romcom reenactment sensation is born. They quickly gain followers and they decide to act out more romantic movie scenes. When Harry Met Sally (an obvious choice), Pretty Woman, She’s All That, Ghost, The Notebook…Harry may not have seen any of these movies, but he’s down to have some fun with Sally. Plus, thanks to Sally’s business smarts, they make a bit of extra cash in the process. Though maybe that’s not the only reason both Harry and Sally enjoy the arrangement..?

It took me a few chapters to get into the story. From the first few pages I was expecting the story to be very shallow, but it was a nice surprise to discover that it had a bit more depth than I expected (maybe not quite the shallow end of the pool nor the deep end…the middle maybe?) and the story got fleshed out more as it went along. Sally was not just a romcom loving gal, she also had some sad events in her past that had turned her into a stronger woman than I first assumed. I really ended up loving her character. Harry also had a lot more depth than I anticipated and watching him grow as a person throughout the story was really lovely.

But beneath these deeper storylines, this is above all a fun, easy read that feels much like the well known romcom’s mentioned in the story. Sure, these stories might be somewhat predictable…but you’re along for the wonderful ride anyways and enjoying every bit of it. But even if you’re skeptical about romance, like Harry, you might still enjoy the banter and fun of this modern day love story.

3.5 stars for me. I’ll round it up to a 4!

As a lover of romcom books and movies, This book was really freaking amazing! I loved the premise of the story and that the social media didn’t take over the story but was an accessory to enhance it. AND it made for some seriously great moments! I knew of and had seen all the movies mentioned and re-enacted. I felt a kinship with Sally…blonde, curly hair, a bit extra, love of romcoms…so I don’t know. I fell head over heels in love when Harry me Sally. See what this books has made me write!!! I can’t wait to have it in paperback.

Thank you Kathryn Freeman for writing such and fun and special book for the romcom lovers. And thank you NetGalley and HaperCollins Uk/One More Chapter for this ARC. ~I was given this book and made no commitments to leave my opinions, favorable or otherwise~

I quite enjoyed this sweet, grumpy meets sunshine romance. Harry and Sally and their foray into making TikTok videos was cute. I thought it started slow but found myself getting invested as the story progressed. The two leads had decent chemistry and I liked that we got insight into both of their characters and feelings . Only two issues kept me from fully enjoying it. Firstly Kitty who was awful *even though she helped in the end. I understand she had issues with a certain type of person based on her teenage years but Harry never gave her any reason to think he was like that so the over the top rudeness/ meaness without even getting to know him is exactly the type of bullying behaviour she experienced herself. Second issue I had was for a romcom, romance, fan Sally had a bizarrely blinkered idea of what love was meant to be. It was so obvious how Harry felt and that his love language was just different from hers but she didn’t even let herself entertain this which was quite frustrating. I would have liked for her to acknowledge this to Harry directly at the end and let him know he didn’t have to fit her “bells” mould and be at the exact pace as hers. Overall though I do think it is worth a read (3.5 ⭐️)

A big thank you to Kathryn Freeman, HaperCollins UK, and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner comes out February 27, 2023!

Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner is an extremily cute opposites attrached, grumpy sunshine, forced-proximity romcom. Sally, a hopeless romantic with a huge romcom addiction, is forced to flatshare with Harry, a hopeless cynic that not only hates romcoms but doesn't believe in love at all. After weeks of living together they have established a good routine that envolves not being in each others way, that is ruined when the two drunkenly reenact the famous lift scene from Dirty Dancing. When posted to TikTok the clip happens to do really really well, enough to spark the idea that they could make money from sponsorships. While reenacting famous scenes from romcoms (Yes this includes the diner scene from When Harry Met Sally and the pottery scene from Ghost) the two will have to either fight the growing attaraction or see if it will lead to a love filled future.

The bppl was so incredibly cute, this is for sure a feel good book filled with tons of romance and fluff. Sally is such a sunshine character who is funny and strong. Harry even though is classified as the grumpy character is also a huge cinnamon roll. I think that even though they both went through character development, Harry's developent was the one I was most happy to see. The side characters were funny, warm and protective. Even though the plot twist was kind of predictable I still felt like the HEA was hard won. If you are looking for a cute, funny, romantic book full of heart I highly suggest Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner!

Sally is a romcom obsessed single who is looking for her true love, the one who will give her warm fuzzies, and make her heat bells. Harry is a love cynic, who doesn’t believe in love or romance. Harry comes to live with Sally by way of fate. Can Sally convince Harry that love and romance exist? Will Sally ever meet the one who makes her hear bells? I was very excited to read this book, but I just really struggled to get into the story- it wasn’t for me. I enjoyed the comedy and some of the kids to some rom coma that I’ve enjoyed watching.it I enjoy a grumpy- sunshine trope read but didn’t feel any connection to either character which made it difficult to read.

4.5 stars rounded up

This book is rom-com at its best. Although none of the individual elements - quirky heroine meets grumpy hunk, forced proximity, dual perspective - are particularly novel, this book manages to give them a unique take and minimise the cringe, despite the cheesy premise of a romcom-obsessed female main character. From the off, the story is teeming with chemistry between our main characters, making it a delight to read (what can I say, I caught the fuzzies for this book). The honest and grown-up conversations between Harry and Sally and the absence of unnecessary drama or forced misunderstandings were refreshing. Our heroes' challenges felt organic rather than fabricated only for the plot's sake. The ending stood out from the often-seen "they got married and lived happily ever after" epilogue often found in this genre - in the best way possible.

Overall, this cute, steamy and funny romcom about Harry and Sally was impossible to put down and elicited many warm feelings in my chest and I therefore strongly recommend this to my fellow rom-com lovers.

3/5 stars

This has all the makings of a super cute story! I loved the premise and the little nods (both blatant and subtle) to my favorite romcoms were a delight. It has all the things I should love and I *really* want to like this but it's just not for me. Could be that it's too British and I'm too American, but the characters just didn't feel right. I love the concept and the trope of grumpy-sunshine, but something about this one just wasn't for me. Both Sally and Harry started as such pushovers and, while they definitely improved throughout the book, I just didn't care so much about them. I liked the side characters more than the mains,

It's an easy beach read if you're in the market for one!

I read an advanced copy of this thanks to netgalley. If you want a cute romcom/chick flick this is it. Sally, a hopeless romantic, and Harry, who doesn't believe in love, come together when Harry answers sally's ad for a roommate, even though he has a house of his own. After a drunking recreation of a romcom moment, harry and sally start doing tiktok videos.
This was such a light and fun read. Really enjoyed it and loved all the romcom moments that were mentioned and recreated.

A wonderful homage to rom coms! I absolutely loved this story and the journey Sally and Harry took to understand love and the line between fantasy and cynicism. Also- maybe we can get a part two…? Was I sensing potential sparks between Amy and Jack or was it just me??

This book is a classic romcom. It has all the feel good elements we know and love with lots of great references to romcom movies throughout. Sally is a big fan of romcoms whilst Harry is definitely not. When they end up recreating the infamous dirty dancing lift and it goes viral on TikTok they begin reenacting various other classic romcom scenes and inevitably develop feelings for each other. Their relationship was sweet with some cute scenes and funny banter. Fans of romcoms will enjoy this easy read

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

‘Sally is a classic romantic and Harry is a classic cynic, but when a drunken bet leads the new flatmates to (badly) recreate ‘the lift’ from Dirty Dancing, and the video goes viral (#EpicRomcomReenactmentFailure), they both realise there’s potential financial benefit in blundering their way through the romcom lexicon for their suddenly vast social media following.’

This book really is the epitome of a romcom novel, it’s so cute and wholesome. I loved the movie references the lighthearted nature of the writing.

I liked that Sally wasn’t portrayed like most romance books portray their main character, she was quirky and a true romantic which was a great contrast to Harry and his grumpy persona.

It was quite cheesy and cliche but I think if this doesn’t bother you or you’re looking for an uplifting, cheery read, then this is definitely one to add to your list.

Thanks to Net Galley, HarperCollins and Kathryn Freeman for this advanced copy.

This is the story of Harry and Sally, thrown together, because Sally needed a tenant and Harry needed a place to live until he got his ex out of his house. Sally is the ultimate romantic and Harry has no belief in love. I loved this book!! I couldn't help but to love Harry and Sally. The author did a great job of developing the characters. Harry's childhood has left him not knowing or understanding what love is. Sally, although she has been through her share of heartbreak, is hopeful that she will find her one true love. I loved how their relationship evolved from just having fun to some real feelings. Oh the angst!! I was brought to tears at moments. The ending was beautiful. This has been my favorite read of the new year so far!

I love a good rom-com, but this one bordered on too cheesy and cliche for me. Sally and Harry didn't have the "spark" and I felt like she was a little too "head in the clouds" for my taste. Some definite cute scenes, funny banter, and sweet dialogue. Not one I would re-read, but I'm not mad about the initial reading :)

Fun romcom (I mean, duh) about Harry and Sally. Sally believes in love and happily ever afters. Harry, not so much. After a few months of being roommates, they start remaking romcom scenes on TikTok, hoping to make a bit of money. There are some laughs but some heavier scenes as well. Good secondary characters of supportive friends. Lots of fun romcom references throughout.

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Watch for Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner to come out February 25, 2023.

I adored this book. I can't believe this is the first book by Kathryn Freeman I have read. I loved every romantic minute of it. Harry and Sally (yes you read that right) could not have been more swoonworthy. I loved Sally's quirkiness to Harry's blunt honesty. This is opposites attract, close proximity, grumpy/sunshine gold. As Sally would say this book gave me the 'Fuzzies' with a capital 'F'. Even with all the references to famous romantic comedies and reenactments of famous scenes I did not find it cheesy or childish. It was delightful and funny. If you are looking for a feel good hopeful, well written romance with fun characters look no further.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins publishers for allowing me to access an ARC of "Nobody puts Romcoms in a Corner" by Kathryn Freeman in exchange for my unbiased review. It was an absolute pleasure to read this novel and I adored it.

When I saw this title available on NetGalley I requested a copy and randomly got selected for this read. The premise that a pair of flatmates who couldn't be more opposite end up going viral on TikTok after recreating a scene from Dirty Dancing had me intrigued.

Then the story unfolded as they realized they were a hit sensation and people began living vicariously through their hilarious, awkward, and steamy reenactments. And the build up, the slow burn to the friends with benefits was done so well and then what proceeded was a glorious amount of angst and miscommunication.

The chemistry between Harry and Sally is very palpable and they work so well together both as platonic flatmates as and as they begin to explore more as well. He stands up for her when her sister tries to take advantage of her and she sticks up for him and helps him realize that his parents flaws and inability to love him are not his fault.

This was a delightful romcom in the truest sense of romcom and while it did feel a bit clunky and rushed at times, overall it was a fun and pleasant reading experience.

Thanks to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, and Kathryn Freeman for the ARC for a review.
