Emma's gangster, control freak of a husband was locked up for 5 years and gave her a list if rules she must obey, or else. This is quite a psychological read that messes with your mind. Every move she makes she is being watched. Every person she gets too friendly with gets hurt. She's living in a nightmare world. I had to read to the end to find out if she got out,

This is a slow burn read that just builds up like a pressure cooker. The first half did feel a little bit repetitive at times but, that said, it still held my attention. The second half was much more pacier and I just couldn't put it down. With plenty of twists and turns in the storyline it kept me entertained and I throughly enjoyed it.

Not a bad little book . Bit of a slow burner at the start but quite gritty , good few twists and turns . Enjoyable , would recommend to my friends

I was hooked from the start and found it hard to put down. I liked how it kept you in suspense and that kept going all the way throughout the book. It was easy to sympathise with Emma's character I was rooting for a good outcome for her. I would recommend this book.

A captivating debut.

This is a great read that definitely had me racing through the pages.
An absolutely addictive, compelling and gripping true page turner!!!
The writing is terrific, the dialogue is realistic it felt like I was walking around inside this book!
I enjoyed how Emma pulls you right into her story!
This was one of those that kept me up all night turning the pages!

Well what a phenomenal debut! I need more!! This has been everything I had hoped for and more.

Emma is married to top dog, dodgy character Tommy. As this begins, Tommy is found guilty and sentenced to five years imprisonment. Only, this doesn’t mean freedom for wife Emma.

Tommy has left Emma a set of rules she needs to live by and follow while he’s inside. He makes it clear that his mother and brother will be the ones keeping an eye on her. If Emma doesn’t follow the rules, her family will get hurt.

My heart has raced as I’ve read this book. Blood has pulled me in and I’ve found this a book which has been completely impossible to put down. I have devoured page after page of this gem in just one sitting.

There are so many complications for Emma in this one- a controlling husband, colourful and uncaring in laws, fear and urgency to protect her own family and she’s haunted by mistakes she has made while Tommy has been inside.

This book has everything I’d hoped it would have. I have been left completely speechless by this one and wish I could experience reading this for the first time all over again.

Blood is going to be an author to watch out for. This is engaging, gripping, addictive and completely unpredictable. An absolute must read and one I will be recommending to everyone.

Wow this book brings a punch and a good one at that. Set aside a day to read it as you will not want to put it down.

I can honestly say I didn’t expect this book to be as good as it was but wow I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be reading more by this author, a page turner from beginning to end.. 🤯I loved this from the second I picked it up. It is flippin’ brilliant! I could not put it down. It is so well written - you can feel the tension, the anxiety and the need to walk on eggshells. I can’t even begin to feel what it would be like to be in this situation in real life. The level of control and manipulation and the slow way this is implemented by the husband gets will get your pulse racing.

📕There are limited characters in this book - the whole thing is based around how Emma feels and her experiences and I love it for this. This is not a typical London gangster book, it shows how the unwilling wife along for the ride feels, and her helpless desperation.

⛳️This is a debut by Ali Blood, and I can’t wait to see if he keeps up this standard for his next one!

Slow burn but takes some dark turns, creepy characters and protagonist doesn’t seem to know who she’s up against. Enjoyable thriller 3.5 rounded up

Imagine being trapped in a marriage with no way out. This is the situation that Emma faces when her husband is sent to prison for five years. She had naively thought that he would release her to live her life away from his manipulative powerful dangerous family but even inside a cell, he still controlled everything she did with a set of intolerable rules and people watching her every move.
As Emma searches for a way out her life crumbles around her and just keeps worsening. Yes, she continues to be looked after in a luxury flat and have no money worries but as her husband’s lifestyle becomes apparent her fears heighten and the need to get away strengthens.
This novel had some surprising twists, which made for an enjoyable read.

A creepy dark and atmospheric read that I read in one sitting and kept me on the edge of my seat with my heart pounding for most of the book. Twisty, fast paced and atmospheric I loved it

I was at the edge of my seat the whole time. So much drama, a crazy, screwed up family that I couldn't wait to find out what happens. Such a good book. A definite recommend.

Very creepy! I felt unnerved while reading but I could not put this book down

Oh my gosh, this book was absolutely amazing. I loved it, and it was perfectly creepy in all of the good ways.

A bit slow but if you stick with it then it is quite a good book! All the ingredients for an enjoyable domestic noir type thriller are there but for me, I'd have just liked a bit more things keeping the plot moving forwards. That said, some people prefer slower moving thrillers in which case this would be perfect for you
