First off, reading the blurb for this and it says people end up stranded in the middle of nowhere and one of them disappears? Favourite trope alert! Literally couldn't be more up my alley!
So, I went into this with high expectations and thankfully I wasn't disappointed.
Throughout this there is a creepy atmosphere and at times it was bloody freaky and gave me chills.
I was completely transported and totally sympathised/connected to the situation Milla found herself in and I was cheering her on the whole time.
My big fear that I would lose interest as the plot developed didn't happen.
Whilst there is a slight dip about 2/3 of the way in and you think it is going to become a bit of a domestic fiction, BANG! it goes straight back to being unsettling.
I did however figure out what was going on very early on but this never ruined my experience.
Highly recommend!

I quite enjoyed this book especially the beginning and the end,the inbetween felt repetitive at times but it still was very readable all told

Mila and her husband Ethan are on their way to her sister’s wedding at an alpine ski resort in Bavaria when they get lost on an unnamed road. When their car breaks down, they struggle through a snow storm to the small, uninhabited village of Witwerberg where they find shelter in an old cabin. After falling into an exhausted sleep, Mila wakes in the morning to discover Ethan has disappeared. Now she is alone with little food, no phone reception and no idea where she is. Not only that, but she also feels like someone is watching her as she forages around the village for firewood.

This is a very tense novel as Mila struggles to survive, look for Ethan and work out whether staying put or leaving will give her the best chance of being rescued. She uncovers some very disturbing secrets about the village which heightens the feeling of unease and claustrophobia. She also reflects on the relationship she has with her older sister and how they were treated differently as children by their parents with Mila also being favoured and her sister blamed for anything that went wrong. Mila knows she has selfishly let her sister down so often previously and was hoping to help make her sister’s wedding perfect. Now she has managed to ruin it, even if it’s through no fault of her own.

The novel works well at keeping you feeling on edge for Mila and the way it finishes up is very inventive with some twists I did not see coming. However, I do have some reservations about the actions of one of the main characters and their behaviour. They must have both been a good actor and seriously deluded to think they would get what they wanted.

Mila and her husband Ethan are traveling from England to Bavaria for her sister’s wedding. Mila is eager to make it in time for the wedding because she and her sister have a difficult relationship. Her mother always put Mila first and Mila, spoiled brat that she is, managed to ruin a lot of important events for her. But on the way to the resort in the snowy Alps first the satnav stops working and then the car breaks down. They are in the middle of nowhere, only surrounded by snow and wood, without reception for their mobile phones. They decide to follow a sign to a village but it turns out the village was abandoned a very long time ago. It is getting dark so they have to spend the night in one of the empty cabins. They manage to make a small fire and Mila, who sprained her foot on the walk to the village, is totally exhausted and falls asleep soon. When she awakes in the freezing cabin the next morning she finds Ethan missing. It seems he just disappeared into thin air because she can’t find any footprint in the snow. Mila finds herself in a desperate situation. She is not dressed for the freezing temperatures, she has almost no food or water and her foot is hurt. And she has that eerie feeling that somebody is watching her.

The story begins very strong. Mila’s and Ethan’s trip to the wedding develops into a survival fight for Mila within a few pages. Unfortunately after Ethan disappears the story gets a bit repetitive. We hear a lot about Mila trying not to freeze to death and about ration her food. Between that she walks around in the village and sometime back to the car. She is also guilt ridden because she ruined again something important for her sister. The atmosphere is claustrophobic because Mila is trapped in this creepy village and she is sure there is somebody or something out there in the woods watching her. But although there is a creepy feeling the story slows down in the middle. The end is satisfying with a little twist (you may see coming).

This is my third book from Sarah Goodwin. While I loved “Stranded” I was not so enthusiastic about “The Thirteenth Girl”. This book is somewhere in the middle. It is a good book to grap up on a chilly winter evening.

What a nail-biting experience this was.

Thank you so much Avon Books and Netgalley for giving me an early release to The Resort!

This book had me in its clutches on the first page and continued to grip me throughout. Every minute of the story I sat thinking, Who exactly is behind this? Why are they doing this? The reveal was just as shocking to me. Granted, I figured out the culprit 70% of the way through the book and was patiently (and a little impatiently) waiting for the main character to catch up.

The reason behind their actions was just as wild and had me bowled over.

I really enjoyed the jump scares, even if some of them gave me severe anxiety and a few uneasy nights staring at a strange object in my room because it just looks "suspish".

Definitely a must-read for those who love mystery thrillers!

Mila and her husband Ethan are heading to her sister Jess' wedding when their rental car breaks down. They then find themselves stranded during a snow storm in a deserted village in Germany. While having no cell phone service, they decide to wait it out and sleep in a decrepit cabin for the night. When Mila wakes up the next morning, Ethan has vanished. She tries to search for him, but he is no where to be found. Where did he go??

I was so blown away at the beginning of this book, I could not stop reading! I would say the less you know about this book, it's better going into this one. I am a huge fan of Sara Goodwin and I am so happy I was able to be one of the first people to read THE RESORT. I will be recommending it to my friends and fellow book lovers!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Book, UK for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This review will be posted to my Instagram Blog (@coffee.break.book.reviews) in the near future.

Very intriguing story, loved it. But was spoilt by reading reviews, as it made me expect more. But I still loved it. Kept you on your toes, very inspiring. Bet the conclusion was stunted and feel it needed more. Would thoroughly recommend

There were parts of this book that I really enjoyed, and then there were parts that I found really slow and boring. When Mila and her husband Ethan are stranded in the snow on the way to The Resort for her sister's wedding, they decide to take shelter for the night in an abandoned village. However, Mila wakes up in the morning to discover Ethan gone and realizes she has to survive on her own. Where did Ethan go? Will she be rescued? Will she even survive?

It's a scary scenario (and setting); perfect for a winter read, although maybe a little scary for some. The twist was interesting and unexpected. I thought Stranded was much better than this one, so I may have had high expectations.

Thanks to NetGalley for this interesting book:)
It was a bit different from other books of this type. The story should be named The Lodge.
I liked the setting, the atmosphere, the revelations...But I hated Amelia.
The author told the story so well that I didn't know the truth until i read 59% of the Book, later everything was clear, but still it was interesting:)

Oooh this was so good! It kept me hooked, kept me guessing and kept surprising me again and again! Admittedly the towards the end it got a little far fetched but that was ok! I think I was shivering whilst reading this book at times because the scene setting was really good, and I felt the desolation and desperation of the situation. The main character was great and well developed so I was really rooting for them! Fab read!

Mila and her husband, Ethan are on their way to her sister's wedding at a resort. They hire a car at the airport and it breaks down in the middle of nowhere.
They find an abandoned village and sleep in one of the cabins.
When Mila wakes up, she finds that Ethan has disappeared without trace. There are no footprints in the snow to show that he has gone for help.
Everytime Mila goes outside, she feels as though she is being watched, she waits to be rescued, but to no avail.

Definitely a very creepy book, it gave me the cold shivers, and I could not wait to see if my theory of what happened to Ethan was correct. It turns out that I was right about the man..... maybe I am just a naturally suspicious person?
All in all, I enjoyed this book, although I found that Mila was a bit whiny and obsessed with not disappointing her sister. It just went on a bit.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

For me this was a book in three parts, a great prologue and beginning, then sadly about 30% in I was debating whether I wanted to continue reading, I'm glad I did though as the last third picked up the pace.
On their way to her sisters wedding in a snowstorm, Ethan and Mila's rental car breaks down. Finding themselves in a deserted village they bed down for the night, hoping to get to wedding resort in the morning. But when she wakes Mila finds that Ethan has disappeared, vanished without a trace. The next few days she is stuck in the abandoned village. This part is where I struggled as I found it very repetitive. But once Mila returns to civilisation the story becomes much more interesting again with an interesting conclusion.

The beginning of this book was excellent - it hooked me right from the start with such a fast and original introduction. The middle was a bit repeatitive and slow because the same things kept happening, and similar events from the main characters past were described in the flashbacks. However, once the main character moved past those repeatitive events it really picked up again, in a direction that I didnt see coming! The end had a great twist as well!

ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

PS - wasn't able to post to goodreads as I received the message "Unable to find book with ISBN "9780008591557" on Goodreads."

To be honest I struggled with this book, I couldn't wait to get stuck in as the description and title drew me in & the book started off really well for the first few chapters but I soon got bored and it felt a bit repetitive at times. I stuck with the book and glad I finished it but this book wasn't for me.
Huge thanks to Netgalley & Avon Books for sending me this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD!

The twists and turns were amazing. I honestly didn’t see any of them coming. I can’t recommend this one enough!

The resort kept me on the edge of my seat, I couldn’t work out what was happening, I kept changing my thoughts of who had done this to Lila and Ethan. I loved the relationship that unfolded with Lila’s sister, I honestly couldn’t put this book down.

A snowy thriller, twists and turns and a MC you really feel for....what more could you want?! I was disappointed with the ending though, I had hoped it would be someone different but nevertheless, still utterly addictive, raced through it as I was so desperate to know what happened. It was fast paced and exciting and absolutely creepy too....I would never want to be in Mila's place for anything......

I really wanted to enjoy this one but i just didnt. I lost interest within the first third. I think the premise of the book sounded really interesting and the first few chapters were really engaging, it fizzled out quickly as the plot didnt move quick enough for me.
