Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Honestly I really loved the first one however I could just not get into this one as much. I just felt like it was all drama and kinda went nowhere

A fantastic follow up to her debut, The bones of ruin that is both full of adventure and magic and features a wholly original kiss ass Black female protagonist. I loved this story even more than the first book, which is saying a LOT. Perfect for fans of authors like Liselle Sambury or Tracey Deonn. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

I can't get enough of Sarah Raughley's epic novels! She has another winner with The Song of Wrath, the second book in the Bones of Ruin series. So much happens in this one with Iris discovering that she is Hiva, and that she is not the only one. As she travels around the world trying to gain her freedom while faced with impossibly hard decisions concerning the fate of herself and her friends. I loved this book, but it is not a stand alone. Reading the Bones of Ruin first will give you the necessary build up of info in order to truly understand the characters and events in The Song of Wrath.

Thank you Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for the chance to read an advanced copy of The song of wrath by Sarah Raughley. I loved the first book, The bones of ruin, and was eager to read book 2. I often will reread the previous installment in a series, but this time I didn't have the time. This made reading the beginning of this book a bit slow, as I tried to remember all the details. Once I got going, the story picked up and I enjoyed reading more about Iris. and her struggle not to give in to her powers of destruction. If you enjoy YA fantasy you may like this, but I recommend reading The bones of ruin first.

4.5 stars , had the problem again of having read the first book so long ago it was tricky to follow everything right at the start.
Raughley’s writing is exciting and super visual, lots of emotion running through this book two. Left on a tough cliff hanger for book three.
First book had no spice , this book had no spice save for one paragraph right near the end that pushed this series into an older age bracket.
Would love to see this adapted to a tv show.
More of a journey story so nice change from book one.
TW: racism, violence, death

I reviewed this book for selection on a YA reading program called White Pine for the Ontario Forest of Reading. Our qualifications require any sequel to be a stand alone title. This is too much of a sequel to be on our list. I thoroughly enjoyed books one in this series. The world building becomes increasingly complex in this second book, nd the narrative voice becomes increasingly internal. As a librarian, it would be difficult to recommend this title alone to readers but I would purchase it if students requested to continue the series after enjoying book one.

I want to start by saying that I enjoyed the first book in this series, Bones of Ruin. It was not what I was expecting, but the story was intriguing and the book moved fairly quickly and kept me interested.
Unfortunately The Song of Wrath did not follow suit with it's predecessor. After spending weeks trying to make my way through it and only being at 35%, I had to call it and DNF it. The story was so slow and lacked the pull that Bones of Ruin had. I kept waiting for something to happen that would capture my attention, but all I got was confusing flashbacks and callous characters I didn't really care much for.
That being said, I KNOW there are people out there who will adore this book. If you loved Bones of Ruin, then definitely pick this one up. It just wasn't the book for me.

Huge Thank you to Simon and Schuster for the gifted e-copy and the chance to read this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
