I was super surprised by this one, and absolutely loved it. The characters were well written, and the plot was interesting enough to keep my attention. I think this was a good story, and am super excited for the next one!

Tamsin Lark is not gifted with magic, but is resourceful and determined to make a life for herself and her brother after their guardian disappears.

After ten years have passed, Tamsin becomes aware of rumors that her guardian found a powerful ring from Arthurian legend. With the power to free her brother Cabell from a curse, Tamsin must do everything in her power to keep the greedy Hollowers at bay. Pairing up with Emrys, one of her rivals, will Tamsin be able to get the ring, or will her brother be doomed forever?

I finished this novel long ago, but I was conflicted as to how to review it. Alexandra Bracken did a good job of world building and bringing her characters to life, but I did (and still do) not know how I felt about a twist in the Arthurian legend.

On the one hand, Silver in the Bone reads like a movie and would be a huge hit in the television or movie genre. There is non-stop action, a quest, a love interest, a betrayal, a curse, and a good twist. On the other hand, the novel is a little too transparent and Tamsin is a little too melodramatic. For the target audience, however, Silver in the Bone will hit high marks. For this reason, I would recommend Silver in the Bone to YA readers.

Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this novel was entirely my own.

Alexandra Bracken never disappoints! I absolutely love this book! I will admit I did not realize that this was going to be a series so I was fighting for my life in those last few chapters.

Tamsin lark is no stranger to fighting to survive. After her guardian disappeared in search of a mysterious ring form Arthurian legend that is rumored to break curses, her and her brother Cabell were left to their own devices. In order to survive and be able to take care of her brother she had to become a Hollower. Breaking into ancient crypts and and competing with others who had magical talent that she herself did not possess. Ten years later rumors start to swirl that their guardian, Nash actually found the ring and now its a race against time and long standing rivals to find the ring to save her brother from his curse.

Tamsin must wade into a world of dark magic, where a deadly secret lies in wait, biding its time until it can be released on the world. She must put aside old grudges and work with her long time rival, Emrys if she wants to have a chance at saving her brother. Along the way she finds unlikely friendships and is tested in ways she never thought she could survive.

This book is filled with heart pounding adventure, found family, and wonderful twists and turns all with the backdrop of Arthurian legend and dark magic. This book had me raging, crying, laughing and facing some of my own tendencies that align a little to close to Tamsin's. I cannot wait for the next book and will be (im)patiently awaiting its arrival.

I liked this one a lot. It had a familiar plot, but it stood out in its own way. The author has a great way of writing and the pacing was good. What I liked most was how the world was not complex and it was easy to follow along with. The twists in this one were amazing!

I will definitely be reading a sequel, if there is one!

This book is so good! I'm a sucker for a good Arthurian retelling, and this one does not disappoint at all. I loved the unique magic system, the fact that each character had their fair share of flaws, but also had redeemable qualities. It was just such a fun, exciting read. I can't wait to find out what happens next!

I found this book entertaining . It felt like other YA fantasy books that I have read but was engaging enough that I am interested in reading the next book. It had a snarky main Character that doesn't trust anyone and is reluctant to get involved in other people. A hot guy she hates but is attracted to. Usual trops but still entreating and and easy and quick read.

Review ~

Thank you @netgalley and the publisher for my early review copy!

I absolutely loved this one!! It has the perfect mix of literally everything with some of my favorite tropes including found family and enemies to lovers!! The best way I can describe this book is like a combination of Six of Crows and Indiana Jones wrapped up in an amazing fantasy package.

I have seen this be described as a retelling but I promise you it's not as much a retelling as it is inspired by Arthurian legend with a few parallels with some of the story events. I read this book in literally less than a week because it was really really good!

Tamsin has become one of my all-time favorite characters mostly because she is so delightfully mean (especially to Emrys who I also love) and it was really interesting to see her character arc and development as the story progresses. Especially at the end when we get a glimpse at what events book 2 might have in store... And who......

I highly suggest that you preorder this book before April 4 to get exclusive editions and pre-order incentives! Plus I think this book might be a few April box picks so definitely don't skip it!

A fresh take on Arthurian legend, this is probably Bracken's best work. I loved the world-building in this, and I can't wait for book two!

This author was so popular a few years back and I had heard good things. This is the second book she has recently published that didn't interest me. The writing is for a younger YA audience but it is marketed for the older YA audience. Also the story just didn't interest me. I love King Arthur though so it may have been the let down from that comparison which I felt was so loosely inspired by King Arthur that maybe it shouldn't have had that comparison.

There are so many retellings of King Arthur and Camelot, but Silver in the Bone was simply an ingenious, creative take on it. It was truly innovative, and the main character, Tamsin, is so compelling. You can really chart her emotional growth which is just lovely to see. I also love the balance of romance and plot thrills. Emery has my heart, truly. I cannot wait for the sequel to come out in 2024.

This was a really neat spin on Aurthorian legends! I loved the twist of having it also be modern day.

Thank you Netgalley, Random House Publishing, Get Underlined for allowing me to read and review this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sooooo, I'm a little late with my review 😄

Silver in the Bone is a fantasy tale with Celtic lore and it came out in April of this year.

I've been putting it off due to being in a severe reading slump. I'm also a mood reader who wasn't in the mood for anything and everything for a long period of time.

When I decided to try and give Alexandra Bracken's newest release a shot, I got into it but then my reading slump came back with a vengeance, which made me put it down a couple of times. After wrestling with my mood reader tendencies, I finally picked it up again and devoured Bracken's words.

I was kicking myself for not finishing this book sooner because I really enjoyed reading from Tamsin's point of view. She is an intriguing character with good development. Tamsin is flawed and a fighter, I liked her strength and her growth.

There is a lot of information to keep in mind and the pacing does suffer a little bit due to the world-building. I think the sequel will have a better pace with the set-up being more established, and characters introduced. I did enjoy the Celtic and Arthurian mythology. Alexandra Bracken did a fabulous job researching for her previous book Lore and you can tell she put in the same effort for Silver in the Bone. I am hoping for more in the sequel, though.

There is a rivals to something else romance between Tamsin and Emrys. I think Emrys is a good counterpart to Tamsin. I like how their relationship evolved. I also adore her brother Cabell.

While I did enjoy this read overall, I do think some readers might have trouble with the pacing. It can be slow at times and it did take a few tries to stick for me personally. The story does have a few interesting plot twists that I think are worth continuing reading.

Also, that cover is gorgeous 😍 I'm excited to see what they come up with for the sequel.

I love a good retelling and this was loosely based on Arthurian legend which is also something that I have an interest in. This is a decent start to the series and ends with a bit of a cliffhanger but I only enjoy those when I can immediately pick up the next book. In this case I could not and unfortunately, I don't want to. I just didn't connect with the characters and personally don't care enough about the story to continue on. But what I don't like you may love so I still encourage you to give this one a go.

I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I was expecting a typical YA fantasy type book but I got so much more. I love the take on Authurian legends in this book as well as the magic system. The characters are fantastic and I cannot wait to see what happens with this cast of characters in the next book.

all i can is book 2 when. Alexandra delivers such a great follow up to what was an incredible book to end on - Lore - and doesn't disappoint with how she brings you into this world. the cliffhanger was evil!

This was actually my first Alexandra Bracken and I really enjoyed it. It was a great way of sharing the stories that we know all to well through a different scope, while expanding on them in a current time.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for this DRC.
Celtic mythology, Avalon, Arthurian legend and magical undergrounds populate this book. Tamsin is an enchanted relic seeker who’s only goal is to find a ring to free her brother Cabell from a curse. Of course, she must team up with the boy she believes is her rival.
A slow beginning but looking back I did enjoy it, and found her mythology interesting.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of e-arc in exchange for an honest review! I have been a fan of Alexandra Bracken's work for a long time, and this new story does not disappoint. It has fantastic world-building, great character work, and a story you will not forget. The use of Arthurian legend was done well, and I look forward to seeing how the story progresses. I think if you're a fan of legend retellings, this is a good one to pick up.

As soon as I finished reading "Silver in the Bone" by Alexandra Bracken it moved to the top of the To Be Purchased YA Fantasy Fiction! The combination of the Arthurian legend and Avalon was stellar and Fantasy Fiction at it's very best. We will be purchasing the other novels in the series as soon as they are released.

Thank you NetGalley and Knopf Books for Young Readers.
