Interesting Story. Fascinating Fiction.

This book caught my attention because it was about a Girl Scout Troop. Part of a series of Heroines of WWII. Lots of History and great storytelling. The characters were well developed and interesting.

I will seek out more books by Patty Smith Hall.

A well written world war 2 novel set in North Carolina - a period in history I have to confess I knew nothing about - yet I have read a lot of world war 2 subject matter.
German submarines lurking in the coastal waters of Nort Carolina who torpedoed military and civillians. This is the story of North Carolinians, including a young Girl Scout Troop, who were determined to stop the Germans in whatever way they could.

I had read about the Girl Guides in the UK and their part in the war but in this area the Girl Scouts gave me an insight in to what they did in this part of the world.

I will now read more into this area and time in history.

Recommended read for everyone who is interested in World War 2.

Looked this homefront WWII novel. The outer bank setting become a character in the story. I think this one my favorite of this series so far.

A beautifully written historical fiction, rich in detail. I loved the idea that the Girl Scouts helped to monitor for suspicious activity.
Many thanks to Barbour Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book is part of the Heroines of WWII series, Christian Historical Romance read. Ginny wants to take her nurses degree and get out of the Outer Banks. When she feels that she must stay and help her family while her father is gone. With the war Ginny finds herself helping the Oregon ferry service look out for German boats. Ginny finds that she along with her sisters Girl Scout Troop keeping watch and alert for the Germans. They find Tim in need of help and step up to help him. Ginny wonders who this man is and if the girls are safe, if they are all safe? Who is this man and what is he doing here?

I would recommend to those that love a good history read with mystery, drama and faith. If you have been reading this series, this is a great addition and you will love it. This and all the others in the series can be read as stand alone as they are all about different women during the War. This is a great series about what women did for our country during this time.

I am reviewing a copy of On My Honor through Barbour Publishing, Barbour fiction and Netgalley:

In On my Honor A Girl Scout Troop, joins the Battle of the Atlantic!

Ginny Matthis had finished nursing school and had no intention on staying in the outer banks but after war broke out with her father away she felt duty bound to stay. She would stay in order to help her Mom and younger sister. While working as a clerk for the Oregon Inlet ferry, naval officers ask Ginny and others to be watchful for German U-boats reportedly spotted in the area. So to help occupy her teenage sister, Ginny enlists the Girl Scout troop she leads to help watch for suspicious activity along the coast.

Timothy Elliot is not a stranger to death. A British reporter working for the M-6 , he’s numb to the losses of war after two years of fighting the Germans. Maybe that’s why he volunteered for this mission—to connect with an ex-German naval officer who stole the Furor’s battle plan for the Atlantic war. When the boat giving him passage to New York is bombed near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Tim is thrown from the boat and wakes up in the care of a group of young girls.

Ginny follows her sneaky younger sister in a clandestine mission and discovers the shipwreck victim. Ginny knows she must take charge, but is this man the enemy, or does he hold secrets that could turn the tide of the Battle of the Atlantic in the allies’ favor?

I give On My Honor five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

I enjoyed this installment in the _Heroines of WWII_ series from Barbour!

Several books have come out in the last year highlighting the lesser-known battles fought during WWII along America's Atlantic coast. This is a solid addition to that, and I think readers will enjoy the plot and learn a fair bit about the history and struggles of the time.

The book does read as though geared toward a younger audience; I'm not sure how much of that is simply because a majority of the secondary characters are younger themselves (young-teen Girl Scouts)--with everything that encompasses. Still, that lent unique insight into how this era may have been for the younger set, something I for one haven't seen much of.

The romance happened fairly quickly for such a short read, as well.

I'd likely re-read other books in the series first, but this was certainly an engaging installment. 3/5 stars.

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoy this series of books. They bring to life WWII from the perspective of the women who were affected by this war. This novel takes you to the Outer Banks of the United States (North Carolina in particular) and to a troop of Girl Scouts.

Ginny has come home from nursing school to stay with her mom and sister while her father is off working building ships. She was one semester away from getting her degree. Let’s just say that she was wanting to stay and finish and really wasn’t sure why she had to come home and be a caretaker(don’t worry you’ll find out later).

As part of what she’s doing for the war effort while home she’s working as a nurse, working for the Coast Guard, and helping keep her little sister busy by helping her and her friends form a Girl Scout troop.

The troop sets out to learn the mottos and be like the Girl Guides of WWI. What they didn’t bargain for was finding a man washed ashore from an explosion and learning why he’s here. Can they keep him safe? Can they help him heal? And what about the man he’s looking for? Is anyone safe on their island?

I loved meeting the girls. They’re quite the characters! Ginny is as well and I loved getting to know them. You’re going to love this book full of suspense and more!

I thoroughly enjoyed On My Honor! I love this Heroines of WWII series and On My Honor by Patty Smith Hall is a wonderful addition. Interesting, easy to read, and I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline. WWII comes to the shores of the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Ginny Mathis is unofficially helping the Coast Guard, and her talented girl scout troop gets involved. Heartwarming romance, intrigue, and six small heroines!

Highly recommend! Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for allowing me to read On My Honor, all opinions are my own!

On My Honor is Patty Smith Hall’s contribution to the multi author series, Heroines of WWII. I really enjoyed reading this book and taking this journey with Ginny. I admired her bravery and courage throughout the book. Her story was full of adventure and suspense that had intrigued from the beginning until the end. I could not put it down until I was completely finished in one sitting. I loved reading every single page.

I am giving On My Honor five stars. Readers and fans of the clean historical fiction will most definitely want to read this one. I can not wait to read the next installment from the Heroines of WWII series, Marilyn Turk’s The Escape Game.

I received a paperback copy of On My Honor from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

I found this story intriguing since it is based on actual historical happenings and presented by the author in a way that draws readers right into the action. A group of thirteen-year-old Girl Scouts proves no match for those who wish to assist the German War effort during World War II. I hadn’t realized that Germany sent submarines to torpedo ships so near the United States’ East Coast shores. The compelling tale includes the US Coast Guard, an English reporter on a special mission, and a nurse who leads the scout troop, plus the enemy who infiltrates America. The palpable plot involves secrecy, action, and suspense. The novel seems quite authentic and the characters believable and their actions realistic. This book adds a new tale to the collection of World War II dramas. It would be great for students to read as they study history and could also be used by book clubs since it offers plenty to discuss. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

On My Honor is a historical novel set in the Outer Banks, North Carolina during World War II. Ginny Mathis comes home from nursing school to help her family. She leads her sister Belle's Girl Scout troop. When a British journalist, Timothy Elliott, is shipwrecked - after saving the life of a German man on the ship he was on, Ginny and the Scouts all befriend him and aid in his recovery. They become drawn into a search for the mysterious and dangerous German man from the boat, while Ginny also becomes romantically involved with Timothy.

I wanted to read this novel because I love historical fiction and especially am interested in the World War II home front.

This was an interesting read with a unique setting (Outer Banks, NC during the war). The author did a wonderful job at setting the scene with fascinating historical details.

I really liked both Ginny and her younger sister Belle. They were both smart and brave and really wanted to do the right thing in difficult times. I loved Timothy and the Ginny-Timothy romance.

This is inspirational fiction and the religious message is presented throughout the book with the characters' words, not just their actions. There is a great deal of discussion about religion. The novel will appeal to readers who are looking for an inspirational story.

On My Honor by Patty Smith Hall is the eighth book in the multi-author Heroines of WWll series. Ginny Mathis is the leader of her younger sisters’ Girl Scout Troop. The girls keep a look-out for suspicious activity along the coast of their small North Carolina island. Ginny helps the girls deal with the life lessons thrust upon them during a time of war. I enjoyed the camaraderie and friendship of this small band of girls. There was a small amount of suspense through-out the story; with a sweet romance for Ginny.

I received this book from Celebrate-Lit for my honest review.

Well, I learned some new things again and this book took me down a different adventure. During World War 2, it seemed that since the war was 'over there', that America was for the most part safe. Obliviously that was not true, and Pearl Harbor is the example of that. What author Hall has done is give us a glimpse into how close the war may have gotten to the USA's shores and lets us know a surprising little nugget of truth. That the Girl Scouts played a role in helping the war effort on the Allies side.

This story begins with Tim, a British reporter turned spy, trying to get to New York with an ex-German naval officer with secret plans from Germany. However, they don't quite make it as their boat is bombed near the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This washes up on shore and Ginny Mathis, a nurse in training and her Girl Scouts begin a mission to help clean up birds and other debris. What Ginny's sister, Belle, finds is not a bird in need of help but a man, Tim.

There are many secrets in this story, some of it is due to the ongoing war and people had to be careful who they trusted and did not trust. Spies were abundant on both sides, and you just never knew. Also, there is the clandestine missions that Tim and Ginny were involved in that needs to be hush hush. And finally, there are some family secrets going on in Ginny's family that are being kept from her, not to mention the drama between the two sisters.

This was a very interesting read about some facts that I did not know about, and I enjoyed learning about them and how especially useful the Girls Scouts were in the effort to help win World War 2.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

On My Honor, by Patty Smith Hall is part of Barbour Publishing’s Heroines of WWII series. This is a series of stand alone stories written by different authors that give a glimpse into what life may have been like for those living during World War II. This story takes place in the Outer Banks in the United States. Ginny has been called home to stay with her mother and sister while her father is away. Timothy is a reporter who is on a ship helping with a war mission. He gets thrown from the ship when it is bombed and is found by Ginny’s sister and her friends.

This is a fun story that has humor and suspense along with a growing friendship. I enjoyed this well written story and how it shows how the war was also dealt with on US soil and the impact it had on others, especially the young people. I especially enjoyed the parts of how delicate Ginny’s mother is due to happenings in her past that were kept hidden from her children. This is a wonderful addition to the series.

I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review.

A group of Girl Scouts find themselves embroiled in espionage when 2 strangers wash up on the Outer Banks of Oregon.

Ginny Mathis comes home one semester shy of her nursing degree at her father's urging to come and help take care of her mother and younger sister, she trains the troop to watch for German U-Boats and report suspicious activity. They are tested when the battle comes to the home front with the arrival of 2 strangers.

An engaging read, I liked comradery between the girls as they work together, as well as how the sisters become closer through their experiences. I thought it was cool how the Girl Scouts contributed to the war efforts, and all of the useful skills that Ginny had taught them.

Overall, a well written story full of adventure, faith, family, and romance. I loved how it showed everyday people working together to protect their country!

When I first began reading this book, I experienced a little bit of horror--not at all related to the quality of the book, but rather, due to its subject matter. After a trip to Hatteras, I'd already sketched out a book with subject matter very similar to this one. I know the book would be different if I wrote it, but wow, are they close. I'd even read several non-fiction books as historical research.

So, needless to say, I loved the subject matter. Before traveling to Hatteras, and reading those books, I'd had no idea that WWII had come so close to our own shores. The hero in this book is British--if you get to go to Ocracoke, there is a well-maintained British cemetery with some of those who lost their lives buried there. The heroine is an aspiring nurse--and I learned a great deal about the treatment of the injured and the Coast Guard's work on the islands.

The addition of the younger sister and the Girl Guides/Scouts was fascinating--again, I learned so much.

If there was any flaw, perhaps the history overwhelmed the story line too much. I wanted more of the relationship building but there is enough of that to satisfy.

I highly recommend this book if you'd like to learn more about the home front during World War II. There is so much to learn!

I did receive this book free as part of a Celebrate Lit tour, but my opinions are my own. Also, the challenge of how I can still write a story that is similar but not the same is also my own. Blessings!

For whatever reason, I’ve always been drawn to stories with a war setting. Especially WWII. Perhaps growing up in the military instilled a love of history, liberty, and honor that flowed into my love of fiction.

On My Honor is so different than other books I’ve read during the WWII setting in that it involves Girl Scouts. What a surprising twist when I was offered a bit of nostalgia from when I was a Scout myself. I was entertained and amazed by these unexpected heroines.

I love it when a story teaches me something new. I had very limited knowledge of the Battle of the Atlantic before this book, and though this is a work of fiction, it contains true historical events.

I connected most with Ginny and sympathized with her when she had to return to the Outer Banks. But oftentimes new, unexpected roads lead us to the most interesting people and places in life. This is a moving adventure story that includes secrets, danger, romance, and faith.

It feels like the war is changing everything for Ginny. She was so close to finishing her nursing degree when her dad asked her to come home to the Outer Banks. She does what she can to contribute to the cause. What she doesn’t know is, her life is about to take a huge twist.

At first, I must admit that I was having a hard time getting into the book. As I kept reading, the plot started to draw me in and had me kept coming back to see what would happen next. I am grateful that I hung in there because the book did begin to pick up speed for a good tale.

I have enjoyed all the books in the Heroines of World War II. I enjoyed how this book showed another aspect of the war that isn’t discussed very often. The Girl Scouts contributed in many ways that is often forgotten. I like how this book put a spotlight on their efforts as well as how everyone can contribute to help a cause. Having visited the Outer Banks on many occasions, I could visualize many scenes of the story.

I would recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a positive review.

This book was full of surprising information about WWII. I had no idea that there were Girl Scout Troops or as they were also known as Girl Guides that helped out. They had many duties which included making bullets, working in gardens or whatever was asked of them. Their contributions were valuable and I loved that they were highlighted in this story. It shows how much research the author did to make this story historically accurate.

After a ship is bombed, oil spills into the ocean where Ginny and her troop are near. They go into action to help save the birds that may have been hurt by the oil spill. What Ginny’s sister Belle didn’t expect was to find an injured man on shore. I loved her courage as she took charge to help this man find a place that was safe. Can Belle trust this man when he tells the group who he is? Why does she hide him from her sister?

Timothy is at the mercy of these young girls but they sure impressed him with their skills. Can you believe a twelve year old could do stitches while another one was able to put his dislocated shoulder back in place? Now he needs to find the man he was traveling with. This man has valuable information that needs to go to the allies. This information could possibly help shorten the war by months. When he runs into Ginny he has to convince her that he can be trusted. He needs her help finding this man but she is hesitant to do so.

I loved the twist in the story when Ginny is ordered to team up with Timothy to find the German man that has valuable information. Schmidt is a smart man and seems to have help on the island. Ginny has been keeping a secret from her family and now Timothy. She has been working with the Coast Guard as a coastal watcher. The tension between Timothy and Ginny is thick as Timothy thinks she has betrayed him. What a mess Belle and her friends made when they hid Timothy without the Coast Guard knowing. There is a war going on and no one can be trusted but Belle was so sure Timothy was being honest.

The faith element in the book is strong. I love the message of holding onto our faith when we are weak and trust God to protect us. Ginny and the girls pray and ask for God to keep them safe and guide them as they fulfill their duties. Ginny has come to realize that Timothy can be trusted and is willing to work with him.

The relationship between Timothy and Ginny is sweet and I liked how they slowly began to have feelings for each other. The author gives a great account of how they have joined together to catch the man who has seemed to disappear after being seen coming on to the shore. There is a little intrigue as Schmidt has help on the island by someone no one expected. Timothy and Ginny find themselves in big trouble when they are captured. Will they be rescued before they fall victim to these men? Get ready for action and a Girl Scout troop who is ready to defend their country, I loved the story and found it entertaining with the wonderful Girl Scouts stepping up to help their leader at all costs. Great faith message in the story which kept our characters trusting God and praying for safety.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
