The art and coloring are beautiful which complement the author's writing. "Season of the bruja" goes back to bringing Hispanic culture and magic back together. Interesting read.

The subject and the illustrations of this graphic novel were absolutely incredible. I was confused at how the story started. I checked multiple times that I was reading part 1. I felt like I jumped into a sequel and not the first in the series. I would have appreciated a bit more character development and plot development at the beginning.

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for approving me for an arc of this graphic novel. I loved almost everything about this story I was a bit lost during some of the priest scenes on how it got there. The artwork was absolutely stunning I loved the colors and style of the characters and background. Especially the details to the culture. I'm definitely going to recommend this to my friends and family.

This entire comic was an absolute delight and also deeply bittersweet. There is so much love bursting from the pages, from the art which is richly colorful and warm, to the deep connection between Althalia, her extremely endearing grandmother and her wonderfully supportive friends. As an exploration of ancestry, family, loss and grief, the spiritual costs of colonialism for both the victims and the occupiers, this story draws you in, keeps you turning the pages and ultimately leaves you excited to find out what happens next. Also, bonus points for the best, coolest, and most amazingly colorful witchy familiars I've ever seen!

Netgalley allowed me early access in exchange for honest review. All opinions are my own.

Season of the Bruja was heartbreaking, funny, and overall amazing. I enjoyed not only the cultural lesson which honestly was the main thing I loved about it. The life lessons although tough showed amazing maturity and understanding by the main character.
I will definitely buy a finished copy and I can't wait to read more volumes.

When I read this book, I felt like I missed the previous book or something. The story was like, jumped straight to the action, and it made me confuse.

Thank you so much for letting me read this graphic novel. I really liked the story although some part of it was really sad. I also enjoyed the artstyle very much.

An interesting and beautifully illustrated fantasy graphic novel suitable for readers age 13+
I enjoyed how we dove straight into the action, found each of the characters intriguing and am looking forward to seeing how the story progresses in future volumes of the series. This is sure to appeal to readers who enjoy classic fantasy stories about good vs evil but it is also a wonderful story about growing up & figuring out your identity which is perfect for a teenage audience.
Thanks to Netgalley.co.uk and Oni Press for the free eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A beautiful story wrapped around a beautiful cultural inspiration. Season of the Bruja is a story of acceptance, both of life and of ourselves, and the writing and illustrations work together perfectly to convey this. It's heartening to see more visual stories inspired by Latine cultures. I would love to see more from Season of the Bruja!

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange of an honest review.

Seasons of the Bruja follows Athalia, a witch (bruja) in training with her grandmother with their familiars and friends. Isadora, Athalia's grandmother, is a kind, eccentric and powerful bruja, always trying to teach the ways to her granddaughter while bringing color and joy. However, this graphic novel definitely had an edgy and darker tone as it progresses.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel (GN) and I adore the art style immensely, I loved the amount of color and patterns, the richness of the story was also reflected in the artistry and choice of colors used. Athalia, Isadora, Dana and Chuey are all wonderful and unique characters. Each character has their own developed personality, but we really see Athalia's developmental character arc in this story/first volume.

The art and dialogue lended to the atmospheric quality of the story and helped set the tone for each scene - it was clear when a darker moment or when a lighter happier moment was happening, Despite this being a fantasy story, still set in our world, I really enjoyed the way it depicted the emotional inner world of the characters using color and dialogue.

The plot takes an unexpected turn, and from the lighter-hearted story, delves into a more intense and emotional story with lots of magical power. The last 30-40% of the story was faster paced than the beginning and my one qualm was that I would have wanted to see that fleshed out a little further. However, I really did enjoy the build up to this point and was invested in the story by the time we'd reached it. I also enjoyed the cultural background and imagery immensely in this story!

I would certainly continue the story, if and when the next volume is released!

Thank you to Oni Press and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel and am giving it 3 stars.

The art style and coloring is fantastic. It plays with the whimsical and the dark.

The story felt a little rushed. We jumped right into the action and learned some things as we went, but the magic system relies on background knowledge I don't have, and I want to know more. The story has a lot of depth and the characters are likable. I'll definitely be checking out future volumes. Overall, very enjoyable read.

Thank you NetGalley for the ebook. Season of the Bruja follows Althalia (a bruja) as she comes into her magical abilities and faces reemergent threats from the past. Althalia works in a paranormal museum with her friends, a real-life Chupacabra and a were-coyote, while living with and caring for her beloved abuela. Through these powerful connections, her skills and knowledge grow.

It is a beautiful comic. The art fits the story so beautifully and I enjoyed it so much. The general plot is captivating and I was curious to see what was happening until the end. Unfortunately, I didn't connect with any of the characters and even though sad things were happening, nothing made me feel much.

I still highly recommend this and I am curious for vol 2.

I really liked this graphic novel. It was hard for me at the beginning because I couldn't fully immerse myself in the story but after the 30% mark I read it in one sitting.
As a Latina, I really appreciated the cultural aspects that the novel shows us. I really liked the color palette and the drawing style. My only complaint is that I would have liked it to be longer and explain the magical world more.

I loved the art style and also the story was really good. I cannot wait to read the next volume.
And what is it about?
Lia is a young girl and also a bruja. She lives with her abuela and has a very uncommon friends.
With her powers she can do unbelievable things, even get herselg into a realm of the death.
Solid 4 stars :)

We dive right into the story without much explanation and see our protagonist Althalia in action right from the start. As the story progresses, we learn that Althalia is her grandmother's apprentice and is in the midst of her Buja training.
Season of the Bruja is a beautifully illustrated graphic novel with lots of whimsical fun, magic and action on (almost) every page. The pace of the story is kept fairly quick and goes along swiftly.

First off the art in this is so gorgeous! The panels are well-placed and the full pages are a real treat for the eye. The story is straightforward but the details are lovely and make you want to see where it leads. I wish this was twice the length to pad out more for all the characters and the bad guys (which are so hateable). I want to learn more about them all! I am looking forward to the release of more volumes. That said this volume ends nicely without any big cliffhangers making it a satisfying read on its own, no need to wait for more to come out before starting it. Wow, the art pages at the end are so nice and felt like a decadent dessert after a satisfying meal.

*I was given an eARC of this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
