The Season of the Bruja is an interesting graphic novel that deals with the grief of a lost one while also having to fulfill one's destiny.

I'm never quite a fan when synopsis seem to gloss over the whole actual happenings of the book. This book deals with the loss of a loved one and the grief is a very big part of the story. To not mention this in the slighthest in the synopsis is not fair to the readers who might have a hard time reading about this.

The world of The Season of the Bruja is interesting and there is a lot that remains to be discovered. The art looked absolutely amazing. Her two friends were great and stabile characters that were much needed element to the story. Althalia was hard to get to know amidst her grief and I had a hard time liking her in her whirlwind of emotions.

Regardless I am interested in reading more of this world and these characters. I think there is a lot of promise here.

This graphic novel was incredibly beautiful, the art work was amazingly colorful and the art style was impeccable.
Filled with magic and action. We see how the MC learns to use and develop her powers and at the same time become a keeper of her heritage.
It was sometimes a bit messy but overall a wonderful story of heritage and culture the preservation thereof.

DNF - I wouldn't say that this is a bad book by any means but I have tried to read this 3-4 times & every single time I found myself feeling confused & disconnected from the narrative. I am not a reader who is very dedicated to graphic novels, though I do enjoy them. Therefore, perhaps that had something to do with the struggle I encountered in reading this one. Regardless, I'm sure that others will find much to love within this story, it was ultimately, just not for me.

This graphic novel was super fun and quick to read! I loved the atmosphere, the illustrations are also really pretty. Even tho it’s a new fantasy world, i think it was super easy to understand and really interesting too. I loved the main characters (abuela 🥺🥺) and the cultural references that were inserted in the story by the author. I’m crazy to read the next volumes and recommend this one a lot ❤️

Loved the art style, and the plot even though I find it well-paced and engaging overall, the ending feels a little too rushed, too hard to believe in But overall i really liked. Can't wait for volume 2!

Thank you to NetGalley for this eARC! Beautiful and exciting! I loved this graphic novel! It was beautifully written and artistically gorgeous. I loved the fantasy and cultural elements. I was entertained throughout and really enjoyed seeing the phrases and dialogue in Spanish as well as English. The ambience is great for a fall spooky season read! Highly recommend!

Thank you to Netgalley and Oni Press for an e-arc of Season of the Bruja!

Season of the Bruja is a heartwarming and adventurous story of Athalia, a young bruja, or witch, who is just learning to tap into her powers and is facing threats from the church in its holy mission to banish the remaining brujas. The first volume sees Athalia trying to bring back her abuela from the dead after an encounter with a priest.

First of all, the illustrations are stunning! The characters are beautiful and the colour palette is very fitting. Second, I love the fact that this graphic novel tackled colonialism in the name of religion. I have just recently dived into Pre-Colombian Latin Americas history and it was incredibly refreshing to see it more in books.

However, I do have an issue with the pacing -it was a tad bit choppy at times. The ending also did seemed a bit rushed. It would be great if the story was a bit longer to accommodate the plot.

All in all, I am still excited to see what's next for Athalia in the next volumes!

The art and coloring are beautiful which complement the author's writing. "Season of the bruja" goes back to bringing Hispanic culture and magic back together. Interesting read.

The subject and the illustrations of this graphic novel were absolutely incredible. I was confused at how the story started. I checked multiple times that I was reading part 1. I felt like I jumped into a sequel and not the first in the series. I would have appreciated a bit more character development and plot development at the beginning.

This entire comic was an absolute delight and also deeply bittersweet. There is so much love bursting from the pages, from the art which is richly colorful and warm, to the deep connection between Althalia, her extremely endearing grandmother and her wonderfully supportive friends. As an exploration of ancestry, family, loss and grief, the spiritual costs of colonialism for both the victims and the occupiers, this story draws you in, keeps you turning the pages and ultimately leaves you excited to find out what happens next. Also, bonus points for the best, coolest, and most amazingly colorful witchy familiars I've ever seen!

Netgalley allowed me early access in exchange for honest review. All opinions are my own.

Season of the Bruja was heartbreaking, funny, and overall amazing. I enjoyed not only the cultural lesson which honestly was the main thing I loved about it. The life lessons although tough showed amazing maturity and understanding by the main character.
I will definitely buy a finished copy and I can't wait to read more volumes.

When I read this book, I felt like I missed the previous book or something. The story was like, jumped straight to the action, and it made me confuse.

An interesting and beautifully illustrated fantasy graphic novel suitable for readers age 13+
I enjoyed how we dove straight into the action, found each of the characters intriguing and am looking forward to seeing how the story progresses in future volumes of the series. This is sure to appeal to readers who enjoy classic fantasy stories about good vs evil but it is also a wonderful story about growing up & figuring out your identity which is perfect for a teenage audience.
Thanks to Netgalley.co.uk and Oni Press for the free eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A beautiful story wrapped around a beautiful cultural inspiration. Season of the Bruja is a story of acceptance, both of life and of ourselves, and the writing and illustrations work together perfectly to convey this. It's heartening to see more visual stories inspired by Latine cultures. I would love to see more from Season of the Bruja!
