This is a good courtroom domestic thriller where a wife finds her husband accused of murdering his mistress. Ellery Kane's novel is what thrillers are made up of: lies, secrets and haunted pasts. The 'Good Wife' slowly unpacks the lives of its two central characters in a dual timeline that jumps from present to past. The book also paces between their daily lives and courtroom drama. It’s quite a read and I will be checking out more of her books.

Excellent written thriller
You don’t know if you should believe Cassie’s view or if you can trust her husband, Theo’s, view on things.

Such a good fast paced thriller!

Ooh I really loved this book!

I was lucky that I started reading this book while on a plane and train journey as I had so much time to just sit down and soak it all up. I was so engrossed in it that they journey just flew past.

This book has absolutely everything that you could want in a good domestic thriller. The characters are so authentic and the drama just flows. There’s a dual timeline that goes from the time before the murder to the time after and the tension really builds as we get closer to the truth.

I loved both elements of this book, the intrigue of the the murder and the drama of the court case.

Another thrilling and twisty read from this superbly talented author, I can’t recommend it highly enough, a real page-turner.

The Good Wife is a gripping domestic thriller with strong doses of courtroom drama that kept me enthralled throughout the reading. It was a little slow to catch fire for me in the beginning, but about a fifth of the way through I became committed to finishing the story as soon as possible!

Cassie is a successful lawyer married to Theo, the one time winner of a national singing contest who went on to experience some success as a singer, before giving it all up to be a house husband and care for his and Carrie's baby girl. All is well until an old friend from Carrie's past, Elise, shows up. Elise seems to have her mind set on infiltrating Cassie's life, and maybe winning Theo in the process. Then Elise is found dead. Cassie agrees to defend Theo, even though she is not certain that he did not have an affair with her former friend.

I did figure out the ending about three quarters of the way through the book. However the excellent writing that propels the story forward kept me reading until the conclusion.

Thank you so much to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book.
My rating is 4 stars!!!! This was a great mystery thriller. What do you do when you find out your husband is being accused of the most heinous thing possible. Not only that but you have the power to make it right as you are a damn good lawyer....or do you need to keep some secrets safe when the victim is someone from your past?? This story kept me on the edge of my seat especially the last half of the book as I had to keep reading just to see what was going to happen. When it all came out let me tell you I was not disappointed in how it was all revealed. Well done Ellery Kane!!! I look forward to reading your next book. Enjoy!!

I've been having a hard time getting into thrillers lately so this was just the book I needed to get me out of my funk! I seriously could not put this book down.

I really loved the alternating timelines between past and present. I also liked that we got to hear from the perspective of both Theo and Cassie. Every time we got a peek into the past, I was able to understand both Theo and Cassie better.

Surprisingly, I also liked the courtroom drama aspect of it. It was interesting hearing how everything played out in the courtroom. Normally, I don't have that big of an interest in these types of novels but I thought it was really well done.

I did knock this down one star because it was very predictable. I knew how the novel would end just based upon the title of the book.

If you're looking for an unputdownable juicy courtroom thriller, this is the book for you!

This wasn’t bad but it wasn’t extraordinary. A bit predictably but still quite entertaining. I was expecting to be more surprised but it ended up being underwhelming

Entertaining but somewhat predictable. Worth the read - yes! Recommend - yes! In my top reads of this year - unfortunately not.

Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture.

The Good Wife takes the view of how much do we really know our partners. We have the opposite roles of the mother and wife being the one out working as a lawyer and the husband being the one taking care of their child. The role reversal opens the opportunity for the husband to meet a woman who is one of the nannies in the area.

This is the way we see this couple, a driven lawyer and a once rock star/musician who now has a music studio. The main thrust is when the wife comes home to find her husband being led away and accused of murdering the nanny, who was found in the trash container behind the music studio.

Instead of the wife doing the kneejerk action of running with her child away from the husband, instead, she holds firm and becomes her husband's defender and lawyer. Is she doing it because she believes in him or is she protecting her own secrets.

Cassie is a high flying lawyer while her former rockstar husband stays at home with their baby. Their marriage is rocked when he is accused of murdering a woman that may have been his mistress. Cassie defends him in court but is she fooling herself...?
The Good Wife is a wonderful mix of psychological thriller, murder mystery and courtroom drama.
Cassie and Theo's marriage started off as a whirlwind romance but they have settled into domesticity. While Cassie works, Theo cares for their daughter and meets a nanny Elise at the playground one fateful day. Their fledgling friendship ends in murder as Elise is killed at Theo's studio and he instantly becomes the prime suspect.
I loved the emotional turmoil that Cassie faces. She really doesn't know if she can trust her husband yet she decides to defend him in court. The evidence against him mounts up and she is forced to accept the threat to her marriage as well as her career.
The book is written from Cassie's first person perspective in the present and Theo in the past. His view shows us how Elise kept pushing for more and he resisted. Could he finally have snapped to save his marriage? There are also hints about Cassie and Elise's teen friendship as well as other secrets which may impact on events as well. The ending was a little predictable but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
There is a powerful theme which runs through the book about gender roles within a marriage and surrounding parenthood. Cassie feels like a failure for being a working mum and is worried about the bond with her daughter. Theo is seen as almost exotic by the other mums at the playground which shows how society judges men and women even in modern times.
The Good Wife is a tense and dramatic psychological thriller with strong narrators.

Cassie and Theo Copeland live in San Francisco along with their 17-month-old daughter, Abby. Cassie is a very successful lawyer. Theo has been an accomplished singer and songwriter. Now, he owns a studio where he gives guitar lessons while being a full time stay at home Dad for Abby.

When a body is found in the dumpster behind Theo’s studio, they are shocked to find that it is a young woman, Elise Sterling, to whom Theo had been giving lessons. The police are now questioning Theo who seems worried and Cassie is determined to defend him as his attorney when he is charged with Elise’s murder.

This book appeared to be somewhat predictable. Theo seemed to be a real guy but Cassie was so ridiculously jealous of Abby’s preferred affection for Theo and Theo’s mother, Gloria. When a mom is at work for 12 hours or more a day, it’s natural for a child to be drawn more to their caregivers. I did find Cassie giving in to her mother-in-law to be rather wimpy. Would like to have seen her stand up for herself more. The author did a good job of keeping the reader guessing about the real murderer so that is a plus. Not a favorite but not a bad book either.
