Thank you net galley for the advance reader copy of this novel. This was a fantastic contemporary romance based on the pride and prejudice character of Charlotte Lucas. I loved both Charlie and Liam as very realistic characters! I appreciated that this was a clean romance without any sex. I would love a secondary book about Mariah and Spike! A fantastic read and I will definitely look for more by this author.

Kasey Stockton is one of my favorite new found authors! I had read a few of her titles previously and was excited to see this book available. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and the tie ins to price and prejudice. I loved seeing some of the hidden talents that were discovered throughout the story!

My goodness I enjoyed this book so much! I haven’t read a contemporary romance by Kasey yet and I really really enjoyed this one. It was a lighthearted and solid story, with lovable characters and an engaging plot.
My biggest reason for loving it is probably so different than what most people enjoy, but here it is, bear with me while I get my thoughts out. I love how Charlie has legit insecurities and is more “Charlotte Lucas” than “Elizabeth Bennet.” So many books have heroines that are bold and confident and sure of themselves and it was so refreshing for me to read about a character not like that. Charlie sometimes struggles with who she is, her situation in life and where her happiness comes from.
Now that doesn’t mean Charlie isn’t amazing, brilliant and great in her own ways, because she is. But it’s not thrown in your face. She has to learn from those insecurities and truly come to know herself, she has to climb her mountains. And I thought Kasey did a wonderful job of Charlie’s growth throughout the story.
And do we even need to talk about how sweet and swoony Liam is? Because he’s absolutely fantastic and the best thing for Charlie.
Plus all the Pride and Prejudice Easter eggs were so fun!
Overall I truly loved this book so much. It was so nice to read a book with a character I could relate to so well. This is the perfect clean contemporary romance that will make your day better.

This is such a fun, quick read! Charlie is such a relatable character- she loves Pride & Prejudice and lacks self-confidence. Liam is also great. I wasn't sure about him at first, but he quickly grew on me. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick read with a clean romance and a few Jane Austen references sprinkled in.

Okay. So. Here we go!

Things I loved:

- All the links to Pride and Prejudice. This is DEFINITELY one for the Janeites out there! Adorable! I also like that Jane’s Charlotte is treated as more of a positive character.
- Liam. We love a gorgeous, sweet, kind, swoony love interest. Need I say more?
- Vera. We also love a feisty, loving old lady. She’s epic and I want to be like her when I grow up.
- The banter and dialogue. A+.

Tiniest off putters:

- How low the MCs self esteem is. But then again, it’s well written, I just don’t love the trope!

Overall:

- Read it. It’s adorable and fun and cute and clean and such a great summer read! Great job Kasey!

I thought that the novel was a fun read, it was quick and enjoyable. Overall I think that the book could have gone more into depth into the characters overall but I still found the book enjoyable and fun.

“I'm twenty-seven years old, I've no money and no prospects. I'm already a burden to my parents and I'm frightened.”

I have joked about this quote quite a lot but at least it’s still over a year until I’m 27. Charlie Lucas (who’s government name is actually Charlotte Lucas) does not have the same luxury, as her life seems to be regressing lately. Single, and recently having moved back in with her parents, she finds herself agreeing to a blind date with her neighbors grandson, Liam.

Charlie lives her life in the shadow of Charlotte Lucas, the side character to Elizabeth’s story, the one who is not as pretty, or talented, or desired by a man like Mr. Darcy … or Liam Connell. These self-doubts interfere with her work and romantic life, and I enjoyed seeing this resignation play out.

The romance was a little messy but it gave the chance to see them get to know each other as friends first.

I’m not Charlotte Lucas

I love Kasey Stockton books, so I went into this one blind. I didn’t realize this one was contemporary when I picked it out, but I’m so glad it was, because I was in the mood for a contemporary book.

Charlotte Lucas, is in fact named Charlotte Lucas, but she prefers to go by Charlie. She loved pride and prejudice, and is determined to not be like the character Charlotte Lucas. But what if she is? Her life has not turned out as she expected and she isn’t happy with where she’s at in her work life or social life. Is she a spinster in the making? A burden on her family, just like Charlotte Lucas?

I found Charlie to be very relatable. It’s so easy to let the influence of others and the way others treat us start to seep into our thoughts about ourselves. I could not put this book down. I finished it in one day. I liked Charlie as a person and I wanted to understand her. The story slowly reveals her past and how she ended up the way she did. I loved the very real and messy relationships she had with others. I loved what a supportive family and network of friends and neighbors she had. It was such a fun book to get lost in on a day I needed to get lost in a book. In the end I admired Charlie and loved watching her character growth as she lets people in.

I don’t want to say too much, but if you like contemporary novels with characters who love pride and prejudice, and who aren’t perfect, but are trying their best in a hard world, I highly recommend this books. Top notch romance as always by Kasey Stockton.

This was a fantastic book from Kasey stockton. One of the best books I’ve read from her. And I’ve read them all. I love Charlie’s character development. I felt like I’ve walked a mile in her shoes. She was an amazing person who gave kindness and charity to all around except to herself. Her insecurities came from what others said. as long as she allowed that to dictate her life then she would always be second best.

It takes courage to stop the negative talk and reach for something of greater worth or value inside yourself. It helps when you surround yourself with friends and loved ones who encourage you even when your worst self. But ultimately the power comes from inside you.
Kasey did an amazing job showing that development, and that courage. I loved Liam as well. He was a great example of someone who had been blessed and he used those blessings in charitable ways. Both sides were equal in value and opposite to encourage each other become the best versions of themselves.

Loved this book.

A light, sweet romance that will make any Jane Austen lover smile!

Charlotte works in a bank, having closed the door on her dreams of creating art. But in doing so, she seems to have closed the door on her confidence in herself, and on her own happiness. It was so fun to read the cast of characters who come around her, proving that she is loved, and worthy, and giving her hope. The happily ever after is a given....but you sure will enjoy the journey to get there!

It's a cute read about a girl named Charlotte Lucas who loves P&P. Charlie has low self-esteem and believes she will have to settle for a Mr. Collins like the Charlotte in the book. She has a lot of hangups and is very insecure and it made it hard to read and like her.
Liam, on the other hand, was a great leading man, patient, supportive, and overall a more likeable character.

It kept me entertained and reading to the end.

Well, my goodness. What a sweet story this was. This is a story about a girl in her mid-twenties who is obsessed with Pride and Prejudice. She really lacks confidence, and despite having so much going for her, She’s convinced herself that she’ll end up like the character Charlotte Lucas from P&P…Average, sensible, but possibly doomed to become a spinster.

Her elderly next door neighbor decides to play matchmaker and sets her up on a blind date with her grandson who is a hottie McHottie, and ooozing confidence. When they begin to have feelings for each other, all of her insecurities continue to rear their ugly head and get in the way of her happily ever after.

I liked this book a lot. I found myself wanting to get back to it when I wasn’t reading, and thinking about the characters. This squeaky clean romance was well written, and had a good cast of characters. I felt like the issues that Charlie struggled with were very realistic.

I love all things Pride and Prejudice so of course this book was at the top of my list to read.

Charlotte is very lacking in self confidence and cannot believe that the handsome and rich Liam could actually be truly interested in her. As a result she does a lot of sabotaging of their relationship.

Liam is so patient and kind, almost too good to be true. He does all he can to bolster Charlotte’s self esteem and to show her how he feels.

I just love Kasey’s style of writing! I could read her words forever!

“Anxiety lifted within me like a rising tide, and I needed to cut the line before I said something stupid, like reminding him of my inferiority. I was an idiot. I wanted him so badly, but I was so afraid.”

This is an awesome book and I highly recommend it.

I am a huge fan of Kasey’s books, but not a huge fan of contemporary romances. I normally read Kasey’s historical romances, but I wanted to branch out and try this book. And while I do prefer her other books more I did enjoy this story. It was a light and easy read with likable main characters, Charlie and Liam.

I enjoyed the connection to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. The main character Charlie shares the same name as Pride and Prejudice, Charlotte Lucas. Just as Charlotte is a side character in Pride and Prejudice, we can see how Charlie sees herself as a side character in her own story. But then comes Liam into her life and that’s all about to change! The banter between these two was witty and fun! The book is fast paced and you won’t be able to put it down!

This was so much fun to read! Charlie was so relatable and Liam seems so unattainable to her even though he is very much into her. But in reality, Charlie is scared, scared that Liam will leave. He will find out that she doesn’t have what his ex-girlfriends had. Her fears are real to her but they are hurting her from being who she really is, and it’s not Charlotte Lucus. Very enjoyable!

Enthralling. I’m Not Charlotte Lucas by Kasey Stockton completely grabbed me from page one and kept me turning the pages way past my bedtime! I fell in love with Charlie and her no-nonsense approach to her current phase of life. I adored all the parallels and references to Jane Austin and Pride and Prejudice. I loved the play on ideas and characters and found them to be well executed. Liam almost seems too good to be true, but again, there is a theme that is being established and I totally fell for him myself. The chemistry and tension between Charlie and Liam are what made this book stand out for me. I absolutely loved the playful banter between them. When the intensity turned up, I felt it. I mean, heart racing, stomach dropping, breath holding, felt it. I love these two! The other characters are also great and well developed. I would not mind seeing a series developed out of this book.

This was a fun romance with lots of Pride and Prejudice thrown in which I absolutely loved. The story was interesting and kept me turning pages until the very end. Kasey Stockton is such a great writer and this just became my favorite book by her! Definitely recommend this book!

What a good read. I really enjoy this author as she can transition from Regency to Scottish to Contemporary and it's always a sastisfying story. A very creative author. I thought the book opened so naturally and the story flowed. Great bit of autenticity written in eventhough it's fiction. I found plenty of moments that were humourous and there was excellent banter. I thought the heroine was a strong character with good introspecton. I liked her self introspection and gained confidence. I found some truism in her character for me. I felt for her and some her self sabatoge and low self worth ways. Our Hero of the story was fantastic. Just the best & sweet decleration from him towards the end. I thougth the story was a creative premise. If there was a book 2 with her best friend as the main character I'd totally read it. Actually, I really hope there is and the author reads this review and feels inspired to write one! ha

But Charlie has already decided Liam couldn't possibly be the Mr. Darcy to her Charlotte Lucas then why does she feel like her heart's breaking when she tells him their relationship is going nowhere?

Charlie has resigned herself as Charlotte Lucas from 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘦 & 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘫𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘦 and has grown to keep her expectations from life to a supporting character level only.

But when main character scenes take place and she's wrapped up in a love story only Elizabeth and Darcy could top, she can hardly believe herself and her self sabotaging instincts claw out.

The transition from "I'm Charlotte and woe is me" to "My name maybe Charlotte but I'm in charge of my life" was well developed but the good parts were short lived.

I will admit that Charlie and Liam had great chemistry and their romance was messy though well done.

Mostly I had fun with the supporting characters. Vera, the matchmaking grandmother, had insane cool, rich and travelling aunt vibes and Beth was the perfect stylist.

This is a beautiful masterpiece based in modern times about dear Charlotte Lucas, yes, the P&P Charlotte Lucas. Somehow Kasey hit all the perfect notes with this story and I loved seeing the story unfold and the characters come to life.
