Not only was I gripped with the story line, immediately, but I was drawn into reading longer and later than I anticipated. A great book to settle down on a cool day/night to read!

I was lucky to receive an advance copy of Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. I love anything written by Lisa Unger so was so excited to read/review this. Of all the books I've read by her, I would say this was a little confusing with lots of characters that made it a tad challenging to follow. It holds all the suspense that her normal books contain and will keep you guessing until the very last page. I still consider her one of my favorite authors and can't wait to read more books by her.

This is the first book I read by Lisa Unger and I was not disappointed at all. In fact, I enjoyed it very much. Not only the plot and the structure were amazing, but the characters were very appealing, and I liked her writing style as well. Can't wait to read her next book!

Here we go again - is this a trend at the moment a then and now novel - if so I wish it would stop as this one totally confused me.
I was really looking forward to this, but to be honest I got lost and bored.
I don't mind going back and forward but this was just too much.
I did finish but a still confused.

Yet another "then and now" novel. Sigh.

So many characters. Great concept of a get away for 3 couples and nature going crazy and isolation.
Took me over 50% to fully wrap my head around each personality fully, then by 75% I was invested.

I love Lisa Unger, and will continue to read her work. This one was just not my favorite.

Family and friends are heading to a cabin in the woods, but there is a lot of secrets. While a storm comes in the plot thickens.

Beginning with an intriguing mystery, I could never have guessed the outcome of this cleverly written, atmospheric novel. Unger proves herself to be a master of misdirection while covering themes such as misogyny and what it means to be family.

The multiple points of view serve the plot brilliantly. The pace ebbs and flows perfectly with the action, creating tension and letting up when necessary to give the reader a break.

Perfect for fans of Linwood Barclay.

Three couples, on vacation, in the middle of nowhere in Georgia. It was a little slow moving, in the beginning, but I found myself emersed in this psychological thriller. A relaxing time with friends quickly changes to something dark. Brilliantly thought-out characters, beautiful cover and a thrilling read.

This one sadly wasn’t for me. I didn’t enjoy the way this progressed or any “twists”. Will continue to pick up future work

Unfortunately, the execution of this suspenseful setup falls short in a few key ways.

One of the biggest challenges is the narrative structure. The story unfolds from multiple perspectives, a technique that can add depth and intrigue, but here it becomes a source of confusion. Different scenes from various characters' viewpoints are thrown together without clear connections. This jarring mish-mash makes it difficult for readers to understand how these disparate perspectives fit into the overarching storyline. As a result, cohesion is lost, and the reader's immersion in the plot is hindered.

The overcrowded narrative exacerbates this confusion. With too much going on, the main storyline gets lost amidst a flurry of subplots and drama. It's difficult to discern the central thread amid the multitude of events - you can't see the wood for the trees! It's almost as if the book attempts to incorporate three different stories into one, leaving a disjointed and unsatisfying result.

While exploring the six guests' relationships is a highlight, some elements introduced lack justification. The perspective of Bracken, the rental house host, seems superfluous and doesn't contribute to the main storyline. This, along with other over-the-top elements like the DNA connection, further fragments the reading experience. The book oscillates between compelling character-driven moments and perplexing narrative tangents, leaving readers torn between engagement and frustration.

The characters themselves are multi-faceted, which is a strength of the book. However, the absence of relatable and genuinely likeable characters diminishes the reader's emotional investment. Most are portrayed as wealthy, entitled, and morally flawed, making it challenging to sympathise with their struggles.

The pacing is also uneven due to narrative disarray. The tension that should build steadily is disrupted by constant shifts in perspective and plot focus. The book's mysterious and dark atmosphere could have been better maintained with a more streamlined approach.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six delivers a mix of intriguing ideas but struggles to weave them into a coherent and satisfying narrative. Lisa Unger's engaging exploration of relationships and secrets is overshadowed by the book's fragmented structure and overcomplicated plot. While the tension and darkness are palpable, they are hindered by the disjointed storytelling. Sadly, despite moments of promise, the final result falls short of its potential.

I love locked-room type thrillers and being a cabin in the middle of the woods made it even better! Three couples rent a cabin in the woods and their luxury vacation quickly turns into a nightmare! Though this wasn't my favorite Lisa Unger book, it still had me very interested and I really enjoyed it!

A weekend away in a secluded cabin for three couples is meant to be a relaxing and fun time but someone is watching and what begins as a happy weekend ends with the friends being stalked. A fast paced and twisty thriller where everyone seems to be hiding a secret.

My first book by Lisa Unger and it certainly did not disappoint! The book switches between different characters points of view - some that you meet from the beginning, and some whose motivations don't become clearer until much later. It had me on the edge of my seat, wanting to keep reading until I figured out WTF was going on! I will say, the big spoiler was pretty obvious early on, but it didn't take any of the enjoyment out of this book. There's also a decent amount of clues that may lead you in the wrong direction of what is really going on... Overall, I would definitely read this book and only regret not reading it sooner!

This weekend getaway is to die for. Literally. Three couples make a getaway to a luxury cabin in the woods, but no one expects it to take such a turn. Pasts come out among friends and the history of the house makes the weekend thrilling. You won’t want to put this one down!

Love this author and loved this book! Read well in to the night and was afraid to turn off the lights! So many twists and turns!

Although I have heard great things about Lisa Unger for years, and have a few of her older titles on my shelf, this was the first title of hers that I have read. While it wasn’t super shocking and I predicted most of the twists, the premise behind the story was unique and interesting. I love a good locked door mystery so I enjoyed that aspect as well. It took me a little while to really get the voices of each character straight since this was told in multiple POVs.

Overall, it is a solid read for a beginning thriller reader, or someone who doesn’t mind a predictable story. I will definitely be picking up one of her older titles on my shelf in the bear future.

Lisa Unger has long been praised as a Master of Suspense. After reading the synopsis, I was eager to begin reading, and unfortunately, it just didn't live up to all the hype for me. That aside, the book isn't horrible, and it has received a ton of praise. So if you are a Lisa Unger fan, don't let my review deter you from checking it out for yourself.

'Secluded Cabin Sleeps six' is a psychological thriller about three couples spending their vacation in a luxury cabin in the Georgia Woods. Not everyone is who they seem, and one person in particular wants revenge. With a hurricane quickly approaching, there is no hope to escape. Now, here is a part that Unger did a phenomenal job with. The atmosphere is perfection, creepy, and foreboding. It's obvious that there are things that aren't quite right, even if you can't place your finger on it.

One of the biggest issues for me is the characters. There are sooo many, and quite honestly, they are all a bit cliche ( with the exception of Bracken, who is a total creep!). Not only are there a ton of characters to keep track of, there are multiple Povs, and the story flops between present and past, making it all a little hard to follow at times.

The premise of a dreamy weekend turned into a nightmare is also a bit cliche. However, it is one of my favorite tropes in Thrillers. So will I continue to read books like this? Absolutely, but it's easy for me to see why, for some people, this book will seem a bit redundant.

If you are looking for a fast-paced vacation from hell tale then this might be the book for you.
