Synopsis: Three couples (a brother/sister and best friend plus significant others) rent a luxury cabin in the woods for the weekend. What they had hoped would be a glamorous weekend away quickly begins to spiral, as a deadly storm is brewing. With it comes a lot of questions-- how well does Hannah know her husband? Can she trust her best friend? Who is the new boyfriend joining them for the weekend? Someone also seems to be watching them, and big secrets are slowly revealed

Thoughts: This thriller has a somewhat convoluted, yet intriguing plot. It starts with the classic "locked in a remote cabin" premise, but it evolves into something greater that, although takes time to develop, was quite interesting. I liked the various POVs; however, one didn't really seem necessary/was underdeveloped. I had hoped for a bit more involvement with that character. Still, a solid thriller just in time for spooky season!

2.5 stars

I've read and enjoyed other books by Unger, so I had high hopes for this one. Sadly, it was lackluster for me. I enjoyed the alternating POV's and the DNA angle. However, I never really connected with any of the characters, particularly Mako, and overdetailing kept pulling me from the storyline. Perhaps a tighter edit could've helped that. I liked the setting, but some plot points were a bit too unbelievable. This one missed the mark, but I'm likely to check out future books.

Excellent thriller! I have spent most of the past year reading Lisa Unger’s books, and this one is my favorite by far. Fast paced, multilayered story about a weekend trip away for three couples that takes a dark turn quickly. Hannah’s and her husband are not thrilled to leave their young baby to go on a weekend away with her brother and his wife. But her brother Mako absolutely insists on their attendance, and he has also invited Hannah’s best friend so she feels they can’t refuse. As the weekend nears strange things start to happen in Hannah and her families lives, including the gift of DNA testing under the Christmas tree that nobody will confess to giving. Creepy and down right terrifying at times this book is one of my favorites ever.

Three couples head to a secluded cabin to unplug from their lives. They are all hiding secrets and those secrets are about to be revealed.

The DNA testing aspect of this story was very unique. I developed genuine concern for some of the characters and wanted to see them persevere. However, some of the situations were a little far fetched and the justice served in the end left me unsatisfied.

Thank you to Netgalley and Legend Press for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Secluded Cabin sleeps six was an intense web of lies, Deception and Family drama.

This book had multiple perspectives and many different stories happening all at once so it was a little hard at first trying to keep it all straight in my mind.. However, once I got into the story I loved seeing all the different parts come together. This was my first book by Lisa Unger but will not be my last.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC

Hannah and Mako, brother and sister, along with their spouses and friends plan to have a getaway together at a luxury cabin in the woods.
After getting settled a storm rolls in causing them to loose power and closing the roads to town. But things start to get really scary when one of them goes missing and they quickly realize they aren’t the only ones in these secluded woods.

This was so well written, constantly kept me guessing about where it was going and was everyone who they said they are. I love Lisa Unger for her twists and believable deception of the reader; and she has once again delivered!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher to the opportunity to read this book exchange for my review.

This was my first Lisa Unger novel, so I was very eager to dive into the book. A special thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this e-arc.

This is a locked room mystery (my personal favorite) and we are follow three couples as they head out to a luxury cabin for a weekend away. The friends book this cabin online, because it had killer reviews and its a birthday present, so why not splurge? However, shortly after they arrive a huge storm is coming and strangely enough, the host keeps appearing, they learn secrets about the cabin, and the friends start to learn more about each other.

I LOVED this. It was everything that I wanted in a mystery/thriller. Intertwined stories, secrets, isolated setting, creepy outsiders, haunting vibes. It was a huge win for me and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves these tropes. And I would HIGHLY recommend reading it while it is winter/snowy outside.

This started out kinda slow, had an interesting, action packed middle and a long, overly drawn out ending. Six interwoven characters decide to spend the weekend at a luxurious cabin, but not everyone is who they say they are. Everyone has a secret, some more deadly than others. I enjoyed this, mostly, but there were a lot of flaws and the ending was anticlimactic.

Six main characters are enough. However, there were too many additional characters rolling around in the background, including one who served no purpose whatsoever. The flashback chapters where also pretty pointless and broke the tension of the present day. Main character Hannah and her husband Bruce annoyed me the most; no wife in history would smile and nod like that to all his secrecy. But the worst part for me was the POV chapter from a dead character. Completely unnecessary and a personal pet peeve for me.

There were also some serious triggers in this book, including rape (off page), sexual harassment and infidelity.

My thanks to Net Galley and Legend Press for this arc to review.

I loved this page turner with all the twists. Premise is not new. A group.of people in a secluded area on vacation, a storm is coming, they can't leave and a stranger seeking revenge is stalking them to eliminate them. However, the WHY of it all was something different, plus, throw in a peeping Tom and you got a good thriller.

Thanks to Netgalley and Legend Press for the advanced digital copy of Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six.
I’m a long time fan of Lisa Unger and was so excited to get this. I will say straight up that if this isn’t your first Lisa Unger, treat yourself to her earlier ones. The latter ones have a different spin with the incorporation of current social themes, which in this one is DNA testing and genetics; and it led to and overshadowing of the storyline, rather than enhance it.
We meet Hannah and her brother Mako and their respective partners, and childhood friend Cricket and her new lover as they’re preparing for a weekend away,
What ensues is rather chaotic, which was the general feel of this book sadly. The concept of a locked - room style psychological thriller is being done a lot at the moment and unfortunately fell flat in this story- I was expecting something chilling and dark. There were too many characters with seemingly unnecessary background stories, multiple viewpoints, and somewhat theatrical descriptions of violence which shifted the feel of the book.

So, I was really excited to read this one after hearing so many great reviews from previous ARC readers. Maybe it’s just not for me, but it fell flat from my expectations.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six follow a group of six people who decide to take a luxurious getaway to a remote high class cabin in the woods. Once they arrive, things start to go wrong, and secrets are revealed.

This one to me just seemed so basic. The setting is your basic thriller. Characters are secluded, something is amiss, and everyone is keeping secrets. There is A LOT of characters to follow, and most of them are introduced in the prologue which I had to read a few times to be able to get a mental picture of who was involved. Not only are there a lot of characters, but there’s past/present POVs, as well as many other POVs with additional characters to follow as well.

I had a hard time connecting with any of the characters beside the boy in the past POV, and I suspect that’s because 50% in, I was still trying to figure out who was who.

On a more positive note, Lisa Ungers writing is quite poetic. I really enjoy the way she writes suspense and feelings of dread, and she does write very deep thoughts at times. Also, The atmosphere was enjoyably spooky.

This was a decent book, but for me it didn’t stick out. I wasn’t thinking about it while I wasn’t reading, and I struggled until about 60% in. This one ranged from super enjoyable at times, to completely confusing to me throughout.

A multi person point of view mystery. A crazy cast of characters that ends up in a secluded cabin. This suspense will keep you guessing and I love that!
Add this to your TBR pile.

What a thrilling adventure!! Hugh fan of the authors previous novels and again, this was just sensational.

Three couples renting a luxury cabin in the woods in an a locked-room thriller.
We have Hannah and her generous tech-mogul husband, along with their significant others and Hannah's best friend and her new beau. The views are spectacular, they have their own personal chef and there's a hot tub, what can go wrong? Well, there is a storm heading their way and along with it, trouble from someone's past.

It was clear from the backstories that this one was going to be entertaining but even then, I didn't really guess what was coming until later in the story. The characters and the setting really drew me in and I absolutely flew through this one. Highly recommend.

I made it about halfway through this book before i had to DNF. the multiple perspectives? the bland storyline. if you're writing a thriller, please make the story move faster than this which moved at a snail pace.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. It was hard, very hard to get into this book. There are numerous characters and multiple points of view to keep track of, I feel that maybe trying to write a book with six main characters, was a bit much for this author. The timeline alternates between the past and present. I normally like these type of books, but just not the way this writer put them together. There was also two story lines, to add to the mix. There was some very good parts of the book, I did finish it, and wasn’t surprised at how it ended. The book also had rape, sexual and verbal abuse, voyeurism and other topics which may not be a fit for some readers. I will give this author another chance, and read another book of her’s.

Excellent Christie-esque writing, full of twists and turns I didn't see coming. A great who-dun-it mystery that had me guessing right until the thrilling end.
