Book 2 in the Jackie Cooke series. Honestly I felt like I've been with her and team for years! I'm hooked.

Jackie Cooke is called out to a death, looks like suicide should be an easy call. But she recognising the victim, Claire an old friend from school she knows that she would never commit suicide and she'd right Claire has dollar bills shoved down her throat. When another victim is found with the same MO, the detectives find only one thing in common. Both ladies were talking to someone called Nice guy. Who is he? Is it a coincidence or is he not a nice guy after all!!

Honestly I am so glad I read Marnie Riches when she dropped the first Jackie Cooke novel the way she writes is spectacular! Each and every page left me turning to the next and the next, before I knew it, it was morning and the book was over! I could of read more and more!

I found following the detectives life along side the crime is what keeps me hooked to the series. She's not the most together person and her down to earth problems are what brings the connection between the detective and me! Yes I am obsessed!!

This installment was exactly what you want when you read a crime thriller, I honestly had no idea who the killer was until nearer to the end. I found that the prose is done so well it kept me wanting more!!! Why Is their money in the victims throat, who is this nice guy, why are they being killed etc these questions and more were some of the questions I was asking myself from begining to end!

I highly recommend the silent dead actually I recommend this series if you haven't started it yet. Jackie Cooke is in my top 5 fictional detectives and as usual I cannot wait to read more! As I am lats reviewing you can pick up a copy of The Silenent Dead as its ready to go!!!
I rate 5 stars 🌟

Serial killer chiller fans will be completely gripped – not to mention scared out of their wits – by Marnie Riches’ latest nail-biting thriller: The Silent Dead.

Detective Jackie Cooke has been called out to a crime scene – and gets the shock of her life when she recognises her old school friend, Claire. It seems that Claire had taken her own life judging by the bottle of pills and the note she left behind written in a very shaky hand. Yet, Jackie cannot shake off this feeling that her friend would never have committed suicide – and when it transpires that a roll of notes had been shoved down the victim’s throat, it seems Jackie’s suspicions have been proven right. With another woman found dead in similar circumstances, Jackie is convinced that there is a serial killer targeting single women. Will she manage to catch him before more bodies are found?

Both women had been in touch with somebody calling himself Nice Guy and a determined Jackie vows to leave no stone unturned in her quest to find him and put him behind bars where he belongs. She is sure that she has found the spineless killer who had done this in Tyler, who inhabits a dark world comprising of men intent on punishing women for rejecting them. However, when the body of another woman is found who never dated at all, Jackie finds herself having to go back to the drawing board.

With the pressure piling up on her shoulders and time running out, Jackie has to make an arrest – fast. But as a single mother herself, is she going to end up in the killer’s sights? Can she put the perpetrator responsible behind bars before more women are found dead? Or is she already far too late?

Marnie Riches knows how to hook her readers in and keep them on the edge of their seats desperate to find out what is going to happen next and in The Silent Dead, she has delivered an addictive, chilling and compulsively readable thriller featuring an intelligent, fearless and determined detective readers are simply going to love.

The Silent Dead is another first-class chiller by Marnie Riches readers will want to devour in one go.

There is something about this series that makes it more than just your typical detective story. I love how intricate the crime is and how the solving is perfectly paced with the number of pages in the book. The two main detectives are likeable and interesting. Jackie’s personal life, particularly the baby and her thoughts around that can be a little tiresome at times. I would give this book closer to a 4.5

Marnie Riches is such a talented British author. Detective Jackie Cooke is a wonderfully REAL and believable main character. I could totally empathize with her character needing to juggle a young family and a career, it is tough!!!
This character had the added trouble of dealing with a loser of a future ex husband, well done her!
The murder mystery is well written and easy to follow.
All in all a very well written murder mystery book with a strong woman main character.

Thank you so much Netgalley and Marnie for the advanced copy! ❤️

I was super excited to read this book. It's my first time reading a detective who has just became a mother and has to juggle between her duties. On top of that, she's also dealing with her divorce settlement. I wanted Jackie's struggles to represent the struggles of a working mother and it was well-done. I applaud Marnie for that.

For some reason, I found it hard to get into the story at the beginning. There was a line with the phrase 'Leaky breasts ache' I guess and it kind of threw me off. I'm not a mother, so I kept trying to imagine that and yeah. Also, a couple of words were foreign to me which means I had to search a lot - I wasn't fond of that. But the ending was so great that none of it seems like a huge matter. Overall, a book worth remembering ❤️✨

I’m so thrilled to be on tour for this second book in the #DetectiveJackieCookeseries! I admire Jackie as she dedicates so much to her job and solving her complex cases. I love how this one touched on her and the victims being single moms. This is a series that I can’t wait to see what Jackie gets into next!

Of the countless police procedurals that are available, many of which feature the lead characters as fractured and despaired people who have lost someone close to them or had a traumatic childhood, the Detective Jackie Cooke series by Marnie Riches brings forth a lead character who is as real as it can get. Detective Jackie is trying to get her life back on track after getting cheated on by her husband, is attempting to divorce him and struggling to juggle her demanding profession with the demands of motherhood; to top all this, she is using all her will to find the killer who is killing single mothers with a unique signature. The fact that one of the victims was once her friend, only makes Jackie more determined to catch the perpetrator.

The Silent Dead, the second book in the series, takes us through a very regular police-procedural story, with a lead who believes in giving justice to the victims and their families, is strong but also vulnerable at the same time. She is fallible in spite of trying her best to find the correct answers. How does she figure out who the perpetrator is? What effect does the case have on her considering she herself is a single mother now?

The author has made a very decent attemp to create a real and authentic character whose problems are very much like the next person's. And I must say, that initially made up for a very refreshing read. However, I just couldn't get behind Jackie with the way she proceeded with her investigation. I don't think even the most freshest rookie will jump to assumptions and conclusions in the speed with which she tends to. The fact that I was able to guess the perpetrator almost half way through the book doesn't help either.

If you are looking for a police-procedural which is set in a very real world and is full of believable people, then you can try this book. I had a fairly enjoyable reading experience from it and would recommend for lovers of light thrillers.

Get ready for a story with family drama and more
As Detective Jackie Cooke the clues tries to explore.
She's a recent new Mum with little time,
Endeavours to continue fighting crime.

The pressure mounts when a body if found
Her old school friend, Claire, lies dead on the ground.
There's a note saying "Sorry" but who left it there?
Is it suicide or murder, just who should care?

With more murders having a similar MO
Is this a serial killer she needs to know.
With an obvious suspect, is it straightforward or not?
Is killing single Mum's part of his plot?

Under pressure, she's trying to juggle her life,
Her family and career without causing more strife.
But she's a single Mum, so could she be a target too?
Bringing the perpetrator to justice is what she must do!

An enthralling read, with twists galore,
As this killer strikes bringing furore.
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
What a chilling, crime thriller and this is my honest review.

The Silent Dead picks up a few months after where The Lost Ones left off in the Detective Jackie Cooke series. The Silent Dead finds Detective Cooke and her partner, Detective Tang on the hunt for another serial killer in the Manchester area of England. Jackie is as spunky as ever and has personal reasons for wanting this killer caught! I highly recommend checking out this series and this book. It combines some of my favorite tropes in crime thrillers: a strong female detective and a serial killer!

Thank you @netgalley and @bookouture for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Another nail-biting story by this author!

It was very nice to meet up with Jackie once again, and to see how she has been going. I feel like she is an old friend, really. One of the things I am really enjoying about this series is how REAL the character of Jackie is. She is a single mum with an ex who is a bit of a knob, and a mother who seems to live on another planet. She has just given birth and yet she is working in a very difficult area of policing.

Jackie and her partner Dave are tasked with going to a house where a body has been found. This body had a suicide note but when Jackie realises she knows the woman personally, she doubts it was suicide at all.

A very twisty, turny case and there are multiple bodies by the end of it, with several suspects. As usual, I had no clue who the murderer was!

Great book, 4.5 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

DS Cooke recognises the dead body: it is a former school friend. It looks like suicide but Jackie quickly spots clues that it is murder and is determined to find the killer. It soon becomes clear that other single mothers have been murdered...
The Silent Dead is the second police procedural to feature DS Jackson Cooke as the lead detective. I have previously read (and LOVED) the first book in the series: The Lost Ones. There are mentions of personal events from the last book but no spoilers about the case.
Jackie has had her baby, is divorcing her husband, and is desperately trying to juggle work and home. This book was just as good as the last one. Full of drama and action, a heinous killer who eludes our dedicated detectives, a tense plot delivered at a fast pace.
Jackie's character continues to be the highlight of the series as she negotiates the pressure of work with the guilt of leaving her family. I felt her emotions really clearly: her dedication to her bring the killer to justice and avenge her friend, her frustration and contempt for her superior officer as well as her feckless husband.
There are plenty of clues and suspects for Jackie and her partner Dave to eliminate. I enjoyed the way that the pair interact and banter, obviously caring for each other but also completely focused on the case. There are plenty of twists as they investigate so I was kept guessing until the conclusion.
The Silent Dead is a gripping police procedural with plenty of danger and drama and a fab lead detective.

Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley and for letting me take part in this tour. This is the second book in the Jackie Cooke series. The first book was extremely creepy so I knew exactly what I was letting myself in for with this second book and it didn't disappoint.

This book kicks off a few months after the first one but it's really not necessary to have read book one, as with most police procedurals. I really like Jackie Cooke. I feel for her. Single mum to 3 children with a co-parent who is useless and selfish while also trying to hold down a detective job. When does the poor woman sleep?

The case itself was extremely fascinating. It surrounds INCELS. This is a fairly new terminology for something that I think has been around for a while without being formally discussed. Those that identify as INCELS are people that I can’t quite understand. I am someone that will ask a million questions until I understand something fully but this topic is one I don’t think I will be jumping down the rabbit hole of anytime soon. I need to sleep at night and I think delving deeper will ruin that for me.

The story was well paced and engaging and tense. I frantically raced through the story as I just needed to know what was going to happen. It's also realistic about Jackie and her daily struggles.

I look forward to the next instalment in the series.

This was another great read in the series!
Jackie Cooke is a great character to base a series around, but Marnie Riches is more known to me as a master of her plots. Her books grab you straight away and you devour it. This book was no different. Read in a couple of sittings, the pace is consistently fast, keeping the reader turning the pages.
Loved it, and I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series.

The silent dead sees the return of Jackie Cooke and as with book one this did not disappoint. Had me invested right from the start to finish.

Jackie is such a fantastic character her dedication and spunk shines though in the authors writing you can't help but be drawn to her and the challenges that she faces. I

The glimpses into Jackies personal life humanize her and touch on her more sensitive and vulnerable side it makes you love her all the more

I also enjoy the professional relationship she shares with her partner they just click and have each other's backs.

Looking forward to what happens next!

The Silent Dead by Marnie Riches is the second book in the superb Detective Jackie Cooke series. I have really enjoyed these books. They had me gripped from the first page till the last. i love the main character Detective Jackie Cooke she is brilliant and is such strong character Plus, she is also dedicated hardworking detective as well as a single mother with 9 year old twin boys and a 4 month old daughter. "WoW!!!! I want some of her energy!"
Jackie returns back early from maternity leave to work But, now is struggling with childcare issues and a deadbeat ex-husband. Jackie loves her children and loves her job as well and now has to juggle everything every day to make ends meet.
Things are only going to get harder for Jackie, when a young woman is found on the wooden kitchen floor, beneath the fridge, covered with a child’s colourful crayon drawings. she looks so peaceful and looks like she is a sleep
But her frozen expression showed she would never wake again…

Jackie is called out to the scene. When Jackie sees her she is shocked as she recognises her old schoolfriend Claire. She is convinced Claire would never take her own life.

What happened to her and why is she dead?

Jackie and her team digs deeper only to find more evidence that proves her right: A roll of notes that was thrusted down the victim’s throat. Then, she finds another woman killed in the same way, she realises someone may be targeting lonely single mothers.

Who has killed them and why? Why was a roll of notes thrusted down their throats and what did it mean?

This book is so good and so glad I did not have anything planned the next day.........This latest book will have you hooked and very hard to put it down.

I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I am really enjoying the Detective Jackie Cooke series.
Main character, Jackie, is certainly a hard working and tenacious detective! She returns to work early from having a baby. She has to do this with her soon to be ex husband draining her of all her money. Not only does she have that going on, she has twin boys, a somewhat flakey mother and a murder to solve. To top it off, her boss is a total #$%&@ who doesn’t like Jackie and lets her know this fact.
I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
