A Calder at Heart by Janet Dailey, another great story in The Calder Brand series.
I've enjoyed all the past books I've read by this author and this one didn't disappoint me.

This is the first book that I've read by this author, and it certainly won't be my last.

This story was very well written and fast paced. I would suggest to it fans of Yellowstone, who are looking for the ranch feel. It was a bit like the Hatfields and the McCoy's, with land feuds and alcohol smuggling.

The main characters, Logan and Kristin, were likeable and easy to root for. Their romance was a bit rushed, however, I didn't mind it. They connected in a way that only the two of them could understand.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Books for this privilege.

This is a worthy continuation of the Calder/Dollarhide story. Well-written with likeable main male and female characters. And some really unlikeable but essential characters. I’m glad for the reminders about the stories in past books as I’d forgotten quite a bit. It can be read as a standalone though it’s much better to read them in order.

The romance developed a bit too fast and unrealistically in my opinion, but it was sweet.

Looking forward to the next instalment!

Content: A couple of brief intimate scenes between the unmarried couple.

I’m a life long fan of Janet Dailey and the Calder books. When I saw she was writing a new series with Joe Dollarhide. I read the first two, and was so excited to get a copy of her newest one. This one has main charter of Kristen Dollarhide. She is a nurse, just getting back to blue moon after WW1. Also, Logan who is delivering letters to parents of deceased members of his unit. The story also brings back Webb Calder and his son Chase. Such a great read!

I loved getting to go back to Blue Moon, Montana. The feud between the Calder's and Dollarhide's continues. Dr. Kristin Dollarhide has returned home after being away at medical school and then as a doctor in the war. She is hoping to open her own medical practice. Major Logan Hunter, Web Calder's cousin, moves to Blue Moon looking for a fresh start after the war. Logan and Kristin are quickly thrust into the Calder/Dollarhide rivalry. This story was full of family, romance and lots of drama. It was an intriguing and quick read.

Janet Dailey brings us back to the Calder and Dollarhide families and the rivalry that is still brewing between them. We meet former US Marine Major Logan Hunter on his way to Blue Moon to be near the only family he has left after the war and meets Dr. Kristin Dollarhide. Logan is quickly thrust into the rivalry as we learn that his only relation is his cousin Webb Calder. It intensifies when Logan purchases property that can change fortunes. Logan must decide if he will stand by family, or will his attraction to the new doctor get in the way of family loyalty? Will Kristen also be able to withstand the attraction she feels toward Logan while still keeping peace with her family? What happens when the past literally shows up to wreak havoc once again?

Janet Dailey brings us a story of two people who were born into families that ended up being rivals instead of neighbors who help each other. Will these two families ever resolve these issues or will the past keep them from healing? Even though it is part of the Calder series, Ms. Dailey does bring you up to speed on past events so you know what is going on, and you want to see how Logan and Kristin will deal with their feelings and their families. Will they be successful, or will the past be just too much of a burden to carry for them?

I have received and read an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books, Kensington for this privilege.

Another great Calder story. This story takes place after the Spanish Flu, when soldiers are returning home injured and scarred from war, only to learn their families have died in the epidemic . Logan, a Calder, is one such soldier. He tries to make a fresh start with his relatives.
Kristin is also returning home from war as a doctor. The horrors she has seen haunt her and her dreams.
But, both are in for some family and town rivalry.
Lots of family, some drama, and of course romance. Enjoyed this quick, read, historical fiction. Look forward to the next.

I normally don't care for historical novels, but Janet Dailey writes them really well. I don't have a single complaint about this book. I look forward to reading more soon. I am grateful that netgalley and the publishers let me read this in exchange for an honest review.

Once again, we are treated to a book that is a collaborated effort by the husband and daughter of Janet Dailey. I am admitted a Janet Dailey junky. Always loved her books based on the Calder family and friends. There seem to be quite a few untold stories left in her arsenal and the family has decided to freshen them up, make them more current when appropriate. A CALDER AT HEART takes place in the 1919’s. Men are returning home from fighting in a war. Some with great scars and physical limitations. But there were also women that held roles in this war. Nurses were at battle sites and nursing sites were an easy target. A CALDER AT HEART brings home two survivors of that war to Blue Moon Montana.
Logan and Kristin are those two survivors. They both have family in Blue Moon so when they needed a place to settle in and hopefully find some peace, they headed to the only place they had called home. Blue Moon is your typical small ranching town with little conveniences and built around hard-working folk. Logan is part of the Calder family which has flourished in this town with a sprawling ranch. Webb Calder runs that ranch and has his eyes set on attaining even more land. Land with water rights. Water is a very valuable commodity in this ranching town.
Kristin is part of the Dollarhide family. The two families have seen their share of range wars and their connection is fragile to say the least. Kristin is a doctor, trained in the military to take care of the soldiers. When faced with a hurt Logan she doesn’t hesitate to help. Last names don’t count when it comes to medical care. The fact that she was nursing a family enemy didn’t go unnoticed.
Interesting to note that neither of these two had been party to the conflict between their families. They were away from the ranches involved in something way bigger than a range war. But they realized that the peace between their families was tenuous.
It seems that two men have their eyes set on Kristin which also muddies the water toward peace in Blue Moon. There is a liquor smuggling operation that has centered its delivery operation right smack on shared land holdings putting several lives in danger. The cast of characters are too numerous to mention, but each holds an important role in the ultimate outcome. A CALDER AT HEART centers on the strength and loyalty of family. Some will obviously need some work. Others may be shattered beyond repair. Hopefully love will conquer evil.
I think Janet Dailey would be proud of how her A CALDER AT HEART was written and published. Fans of Janet Dailey will certainly enjoy this tale especially with the Calder family front and center.

This book was sent to me electronically for review by Netgalley. This is a quick read…historical fiction. The main character is a female doctor who served during the war…she has returned home to set up a practice.. she has returned to problems with family and neighbors. Love and romance. Family and friends..this author always writes an entertaining story. Curl up in a cozy chair and be transported back in time. Enjoy.
