I really enjoy the Little People, Big Dreams series. These books expose young children to positive role models in a world full of such negativity. In this one, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson shows kids that with hard work and determination, they can grow and succeed no matter what life throws at them.

Like other books in this series, it is a fun little introduction to historic figures. Definitely a great way to introduce kids to biographies and a nice read for adults too. I would recommend all the books in this series.

I think what I admire most about this book is the messaging. I've never found The Rock an especially compelling figure, myself, but I do admire what his story teaches us. He failed. He tried something with his whole heart and it didn't work out. So the message here isn't that you can achieve anything if you try hard enough. It's that sometimes we have to change our dreams, to seek a new goal. That's worth reading to a kid.

“Once, a little boy named Dwayne was born into a family of wrestlers. His grandmother was a wrestling promoter and both his father and grandfather were famous champions.”

You’d have to be living under a rock not to have heard of The Rock! I exaggerate, of course, but Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, has certainly made his mark in the world of entertainment.

My Goodreads review has an illustration with the caption:
“Still, he dreamt of becoming a hero in his own way.”

Notice his sidelong glance at a football on the lawn. He grew up wrestling with the family, but they moved around so much, it was hard to keep the friends he made. He loved football and made a high school team, but then his family hit hard times.

My Goodreads review has an illustration with the caption:
“Dwayne felt hopeless and alone. The only thing he could control was his body, so he pushed himself to get fitter and stronger.”

He won a college football scholarship, and after graduating, he made it into professional football in Canada. Unfortunately, only a few months later, injuries sent him home with no money and no prospects. He was hit with depression, and was wise enough to seek help.

My Goodreads review has an illustration with the caption:
“…he realized that strong guys are not those with the biggest biceps, but those brave enough to accept their own weakness and open up to others.”

No more football, so it was back to wrestling. If he was going to follow this new career, he was determined to be the best performer possible.

My Goodreads review has an illustration with the caption:
“All he had to do was practice day and night.”

That’s easy enough to say, but he looked terrific. The crowds, however, booed – until he found his internal hero and reinvented himself as THE ROCK!

My Goodreads review has an illustration with the caption:
“As The Rock, Dwayne became the wrestling legend he had longed to be: The People’s Champ! He won many titles … but it was his magnetic personality that captured the fans’ heart.”

Hollywood noticed, and they tried to recruit him for villain roles, but that wasn’t for him. He wanted to be “ the fearless guy ready to save the world with his big muscles and an even bigger heart.”

Now, the rest of the world discovers The Rock. He has played all kinds of parts, but he does have some demands.

My Goodreads review has an illustration with the caption:
“He wanted everyone to have the feeling that good always wins.”

And guess what? He’s now the highest paid actor! He still puts in the hard work and keeps himself strong and fit.

“Yet, he never stopped being a humble guy ready to inspire others with his enthusiasm.”

As usual, there’s more biography at the end with four black and white photos and a reference for a ‘real’ book about him. Here is a colour photo.

My Goodreads review has a current photo of him:

He really is quite a guy. Thanks to NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Childrens’ Books for the copy for review.

I don't like wrestlers, so never heard of Dwayne Johnson on his early days. Recognize him from his movies, with his big buff body and bigger softer heart. But never realized how hard his life had been, yet, as the author wrote at the end of the book: Dwayne’s life shows us that with talent, hard work, and determination, no dream is impossible to reach.

'Dwayne Johnson' by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Lirios Bou is a biography and a truly inspiring story for young readers.

Dwayne Johnson was born into a family of Samoan and Black wrestlers who moved around. When Dwayne got older, he played football for a short time, then decided to become a wrestler too. Things were not always easy for Dwayne Johnson, but he persevered and is now a huge movie star.

This is book 90 in the Little People, BIG Dreams series and I loved it. The art is bright and colorful and the subject is larger than life in so many ways.

Strong basic biography of "The Rock". Prior to reading this, I personally hadn't realized the struggles he had in life. Very interesting read. There is an extended biography and time line in the back. I think kids would enjoy to see an actor they know well is an actual person.

Seriously who could not love Dwayne Johnson? Especially after reading this book. If possible I love him more now. Such an inspiring story (even moreso for little boys. It shows them they can show sadness and still be a rockstar).

As always the series is amazing with incredible illustrations. Highly recommend.

As a Dwayne Johnson's fan, I found this book to be a delightful biography of his life. The story follows his struggle and hard work. The Rock is my idol because he has proven himself to be a great person, entrepreneur, and entertainer. I would recommend this book to anyone seeking a quick reference to inspiration.

Dwayne Johnson by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara explores the life of this wrestler turned actor. Born into a family of wrestlers, young Dwayne actually preferred football. Unfortunately, that didn't pan out, and he turned to wrestling like his grandfather and father. After an outstanding run as a wrestler, he tried his hand at acting and excelled there as well. Yet, despite all his fame, Dwayne is a humble man and generous.

The end of the book contains a more detailed look at Dwayne's life, using language suited for much older readers. Inspirational and educational both, this entire series is great! I read this with my cubs. We love this series! Highly recommended!

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Dwayne Johnson is one of the most recent additions to the Little People Big Dreams series and is one of my favourites out of the series so far.
Told in a child friendly format we learn more about Dwayne - his highs and lows, how he achieved greatness and fame and how hard it was for him along the way. Dwayne grew up in a family of wrestlers and wanted to be his own version of uniqueness. He trained hard every day even though he moved around alot as a child and his family faced financial ruin. The book touches on depression and explains this in a sensitive and understandable way for the child audience the book is aimed for. This book shows a great family man who's dedicated to his craft and goes above and beyond to look after his family. I didn't think I could love this guy any more than I did but this books proven me wrong. As a sufferer of depression who's also been through a lot of moves, lost alot along the way and been faced with alot of financial curb balls, this book was lovely to read to know I'm not the only one and comfort and assure children they can achieve all they dream and more if they put the time, thought and effort in.

Thanks to NetGalley and its author for providing me with an advanced copy.

This is a nonfiction story about Dwayne and his childhood and adolescence era when he's grown up as a footballer, but he ended at cinema in Hollywood and a good fighter as his family did.

I really like and appreciate what the author did, how big fan, she was to be capable to search and look for Dwayne Johnson's life anywhere she did.

This is another children's book from the awesome series called Little People, Big Dreams, which I am always excited to read more of. This book is about Dwayne Johnson, who is a famous actor. I was very interested to read about him, as I like watching him in movies. I was surprised to learn that he was an avid footballer and wrestler before he switched to acting. His wrestling persona was The Rock and he won a lot of championships in this sport. I enjoyed reading about his life from when he was a child, until now.

The book itself has great illustrations, and easy to read text, which children and adults will love.

I loved the book, which was inspiring, and I recommend it highly.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

I’m a big fan of the Little People Big Dreams books for many reasons, they’re inspiring, informative, easy to read and the bright illustrations can make them fun to read too.

This Dwayne Johnson book is the perfect example of why they are so great. Obviously I knew who Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson the actor was before I read this book. But that was all I knew of him so I may have even wondered what made him worthy of a Little People Big Dreams book. I was definitely interested to find out…

Reading this book I found he was much more than just an actor, he was a true inspiring example of how never giving up or allowing the obstacles in your way to halt you can change your path to a different but a great life, you just have to keep going until you get there.

Dwayne Johnson AKA The Rock is a world-renowned actor who started his career as a wrestling superstar. Dwayne grew up in a Samoan family of wrestling stars (in fact his daughter has just made her debut, following in her father's footsteps.)
Dwayne's first love was American football, he was a natural athlete who loved to train but he was unfortunately dropped by the team after a few months. But it was the change in career which prompted him to try wrestling. He gave himself the moniker of The Rock and he became a global superstar. Branching out into film, he is well known for playing Maui in Moana and one of the leading roles in the remake of Jumanji.

The 90th book in the hugely popular Little People, Big Dreams is filled with bright illustrations by Lirois Bou and the timeline in the back provides further information on Dwayne's life journey.

Dwayne Johnson by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is another release in the Little People, Big Dreams series, which I have reviewed frequently on here. I just love these little books. They are always packed with facts about the person who they are writing about and full of colourful illustrations throughout.

This book is about Dwayne Johnson he was born into a family of Samoan and Black wrestlers, little Dwayne travelled with his parents and watched his family fight in the ring, but he much preferred the football field to wrestling! He trained hard and worked to become a football player, signing with the Calgary Stampeders as a linebacker. But he was cut from the team after just two months.

He is a natural athlete, Dwayne decided to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and decided to pursue professional wrestling. Taking on the persona of 'The Rock' as a wrestler in the WWE, he won 16 championships and millions of fans. After a huge wrestling career, he tried his hand at acting, and today is one of the biggest film stars that Hollywood has ever seen!

This book has inspiring features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the athlete and actor's life. It's full of easy to read, with great Illustrations throughout this small book.

It's one you should definitely buy for your little readers so they can learn about this different famous people.

The ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The ‘My First Little People, Big Dreams’ series provides informative and inspirational biographies about people who left a mark on this earth, no matter what difficulties they have encountered.
These stories are very short, but that’s because they’re books for children, so it’s totally understandable.
I think they are a very smart and wonderful way to introduce little children to such important figures. This little book here tells the story of Dwayne Johnson, who's widely known as The Rock, the name he took as a wrestler in the WWE. Today he's one of the biggest film stars in Hollywood and he's loved and appreciated by many people.

I personally had NO IDEA about who The Rock was before he was The Rock! This book was such a fun way to learn about him and introduce him to my kids. They’ve seen him in movies before and now they know that he has had many set backs, yet continued to work hard and be brave in asking for help. Truly inspiring!
