This is a fast paced book that kept me turning the pages. The tension is palpable. There is a high level of violence. It was emotional.
The ending had a great twist at the end.

This is a chilling and unsettling novel that delves into the dark and dangerous world of domestic abuse. With its gripping plot and well-drawn characters, this book sheds light on the terrifying reality faced by many individuals trapped in abusive relationships.

The story revolves around Laura, a seemingly ordinary woman who falls for the charms of a man named Robert. At first, Robert appears to be the perfect partner - kind, loving, and attentive. However, as Laura's pregnancy progresses, Robert's true nature begins to emerge. He becomes controlling, manipulative, and prone to violent outbursts.

The author skillfully portrays the gradual unraveling of Laura's life as she realizes that she has married a stranger, a man with a dark past and sinister intentions. The tension builds steadily as Laura uncovers the truth about Robert and the extent of the danger she and her unborn child are in.

One of the strengths of "The Perfect Stranger" is its portrayal of the psychological and emotional manipulation that often accompanies domestic abuse. The author delves into the complex dynamics of power and control, highlighting the ways in which abusers exert their influence over their victims.

Laura thinks she’s found her dream man but when he moves in with her she finds he’s not quite the shining knight she was hoping for. I’m well used to reading books where the “heroine”/main character is as wet and miserable as a damp towel. Laura is the queen of them all, dithering, overthinking and doing nothing. She has to be the most annoying character of all previously read books. Thank goodness it was short because I couldn’t have borne much more of her. Why does there ALWAYS have to be an animal that dies in these novels? I could have liked this story and usually do, but not this version sorry to say. Incidentally this is not the book to choose if you need cheering up!

A very claustrophic read as it's largely domestic driven but very gripping and compelling. Really enjoyed it and will look out for more from the author.

Laura seemingly meets the perfect man - Robert. However, over time, Robert begins to show his true colours, especially after Laura falls pregnant. His temper is red hot. Laura becomes increasingly worried, not only for herself, but for her unborn baby. Who is Robert? As Laura realizes she and her baby are in grave danger, she has to consider how far she will go to protect them.

I enjoyed this book! It is a very quick and easy read. It is well-written and filled with shocking twists and turns. The final twist at the end got me! It It was emotional and kept me thinking long after I finished reading. The main character, Laura, was easy to connect with and I really felt for her. This was my first read from Iain Maitland, but definitely not my last!

Then Laura gets pregnant and thinks that this might change him. How will Laura survive and protect her unborn baby. A gripping and terrifying physcological thriller.

This one was just okay, in my opinion. It got a little slow at times. Every character was unlikable but had a good twist.

Laura met Robert and thought he was too good to be true. She was right. After she gets pregnant, his true nature comes out and he turns cold and judgmental towards Laura. She can never make him happy and is gone all the time without telling her where he is. She comes to realize that she and her unborn child are in extreme danger from Robert.
This book had me hooked from the very beginning and I couldn't put it down. It had several twists and the ending was definitely the biggest twist of all. You won't see it coming. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

The title cought my interest and brimming with potential. I dont feel any connection with the main character although I has genuine sympathy and engaging enough in to her story. But her narrative kinda off for me, she has unique ways to explained her condition and sometimes I must reread to know it is real happened or just her estimation.
However the plot is unique and at one points I hold my breath with anticipation. Sadly the end isn't my fave and eventually I enjoyed the twist, this story could be better.

Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator Books for provided my copy. My thoughts and opinions area my own.

Thanks to net galley for this arc.

I liked the twists and turns of this book although the content made uncomfortable reading at times.

Laura thought Robert was too good to be true. She got that right.

A small-town barbeque in summer’s dying days. There, gentle, bookish Laura meets a man who makes her laugh, hangs on her every word.

He’s the one. Isn’t he?

But once Laura falls pregnant, Robert’s mask slips. She can never quite keep him happy. He is cold and judgemental with a temper that can flare up when things don't go his way.

The perfect husband is a great book that had me hooked from the start, there are several twists in the story which I was unable to predict the outcome of but the ending was the biggest twist that I wasn’t expecting. I really enjoyed this book and it was the first one I have read by this author. I will definitely be reading more of their work in the future.

Description sounded very good but I found the way this book was written was quite strange and that distracted from the actual story.
