I really enjoyed this story! The characters were really engaging and I laughed quite a bit. I really didn't want to turn it off and finished the ALC in 3 days! I love a good "enemies" to lover trope (though were they really enemies or was it residual stuff from their families? hmmmm) and I really liked the progression of their truce to friendship to romance. I would recommend this book to people no matter the season but will definitely talk it up for the holidays! This was overall a feel good book that evoked the right feelings at the right times (I may have gotten a little watery eyed at times, call me sentimental)! If I read the physical book, I would've definitely read through it quickly as well.
For the narrators I will say:
1) For Chloe, I felt that the narrator made her voice a little bit too high pitched (but maybe that's just my subconscious worry of how high pitched my voice is) but sounded a lot more natural & comfortable at a lower register like when she spoke for the sister or other adult females. She did a great job with pacing and giving the characters different voices.
2) For Peter, I felt he read REALLY fast...like as if i was on 2x when I was at 1x or whatever the default speed is so I got a little lost at times. He was really funny in voicing the "dude bros" in the story.
3) I really appreciated that there were 2 narrators so I wasn't taken out of the story with just one!
This was a fun, feel-good YA holiday rom-com featuring two Asian American teens from rival families who team up to help save their local mall. Full of friendship, first love and madcap adventure. I enjoyed this on audio and recommend it for fans of books like A pho love story, Made in Korea or The holiday switch. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for access to early digital copies in exchange for my honest review.
