As a big Black Panther fan I was definitely excited to get the chance to listen to this audiobook. I found the writing and narration to be really enjoyable and the overall story fit well with what I know of the characters and their stories from previous iterations of them through comics and movies. This book is great for any BP fan!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for being able to read this as an ARC. These are my honest reviews.
I loved listening to this audiobook. The voiceover was wonderful and it was done to match every expectation I had of a Marvel superhero character. This was great and I would recommend to anyone who loves Marvel.

This book was quite good. While I thoroughly enjoyed the pace and writing style, I personally didnt enjoy story line as much. That being said the story is written based on a comic arc from the 1970’s (from my understanding) so I know it might be the same if I read that comic arc. I can’t wait to read another novel by Sheree! I think if you enjoy the Black Panther character, this is a great book to dive into. I plan on reading the Black Panther anthology, edited by Sheree, soon.

I really enjoyed this one, as an avid reader and marvel fan in the MCU realm. Learning more about the comic lore that has filled the back pages of comic strips from the past several decades was good filler for me, as I continue to watch further MCU movies and content.

This was an excellent audiobook. Sheree Renée Thomas does an excellent job adapting the original comic books so that they will appeal to fans of the "Black Panther" films and while adding a lot of her own characters to the mix. Great for fans of the comics and for those whose only exposure to Black Panther and Wakanda is through the MCU films and TV shows. The audiobook narrator does an excellent job with the voices, wisely favoring the voice of the actors/actresses who play these characters.

"Black Panther: Panther’s Rage". Written by Sheree Renée Thomas

This audio book is beautifully read, with male and female Wakandans as well as non-African characters all voiced with appropriate accents. The elaborate story is a joy to listen to. Author Sheree Thomas skillfully incorporate political and spiritual concepts into this narrative, evoking the complexity of the history and world view of this long hidden and isolated society. Thomas remembers to suggest the moral dilemma of Wakanda existing in relative comfort and abundance despite the turmoil and poverty that rages over much of Africa and the rest of the world. Nevertheless the descriptions of the landscape and people of Wakanda manage a believable balance between a nation that values both ancient traditions and post-modern technology.

Obviously, as a part of the Marvel Comics Universe, much of the plotting must revolve around battles between designated heroes and villains…the residue of conflicts previously depicted in the Black Panther and Avenger action films. Tasked with writing a great many fight scenes, Thomas sometimes has difficulty keeping the action fresh and lucid…the mind’s eye sometimes has trouble keeping track of how badly each combatant is hurt, and which character has the upper hand. As battle scene flows into battle scene, one can sometimes forget who is who.

Thomas writes logical, believable romantic dialogue and conversations between supporting characters that give historical background and emotional context to the various factions in conflict with each other. Monica and T’Challa are a well-crafted couple, and Thomas does their relationship justice. However I also think that if Thomas had been able to momentarily “pan away” from Wakanda to relevant action elsewhere, as often happens in the comics and the action films, the audio book would have been able to give the action scenes in a calmer, more comprehensible rhythm.

"Black Panther: Panther's Rage" is an interesting take on Black Panther characters. While the overall story was entertaining, I found that it occasionally verged too often into the repetitive description wise. Despite the plot being a little predictable, I found myself enjoying it. The narrator did a good job.

The audiobook was great. Thank you Netgalley for letting me listen and review this book. Sheree writes so beautifully. I love the Black Panther movie and characters, so I was excited to learn a book was coming out. I enjoyed following the characters journeys, especially Killmonger's, I think he's one of the best characters in the MCU. There are some new characters in here, and a couple Marvel characters that were cool to see again. The narrator did a great job for the audiobook. Definitely recommend if you like. I want to rewatch the movie now, and watch the second movie!

I really loved this book. It was very comic accurate and dove into the origins of Black Panther and who he is. I enjoyed that we got to meet new characters and dive into their stories. There are characters from the MCU mentioned and I really loved that as well.

This book is really good. The author appears to have an excellent grasp of the MCU's characters and the actors who portray them. The narrator also does an excellent job of enacting voice and timber from the films. It feels like a continuation of the Black Panther movie. Well done.

I was excited to listen to this particular audiobook, but I had difficulties connecting to the voice actor and the characters. Who was Monica? I wasn't sure if this was a series or a stand-alone because I was clueless while listening to this book. I felt like I needed an introduction to explain to me where I was in the story. It felt like I was just plopped right in the middle of the action and was missing some key background or foundation points.

I was very excited to pick this audiobook up! It’s a fun, easy read. Great story. Nice character development and flow to the overall narrative.

I have not read the original comics, though am familiar with the characters and world they live in. That said, this book was easily picked up as everything you need to understand is contained within.

Unfortunately, the descriptions (primarily of the action scenes, but more besides) become incredibly repetitive as the book goes on - so much so, that I found it distracting. Perhaps that is why this kind of action story is so well suited to comic form.

I was not at all enamoured with the audiobook narration (I started by hating it, and became somewhat neutral over the course of the book). I think that with a much better narrator, this audiobook could have been so much more engaging.

So much gratitude to the publisher, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for the advanced audiobook copy of this book, in exchange for my honest review.

That was a bust. How do you take one of the most exciting Marvel stories and ruin it? Chadwick Boseman deserves more than that.

Who is Monica? Why is T'Challa with her? I don't trust her. Give me more Killmonger. I know, I know. Sorry not sorry.

The added political drama was annoying.

Anything Black Panther is a 10 out of 10 for me! This was a great different take on the comic and more into the story with Killmonger, I was confused for a while becasue I thought it was a continuation of another book until I finally looked into it. I felt like the book would have been good without Monica, she didn't really add anything to the story at all.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC audiobook. in exchange for an honest review.

This was an interesting read. Sheree Renèe Thomas reimagines the famous Panther's Rage comic arc and successfully brings it into the modern day. This modern retelling is fast-paced and respectful of its source material. Being familiar with the original comic run it was a lot of fun to see everything updated and some things retroactively added to the tale. But given the fact that this is a retelling of something I've read before it doesn't really bring much to the story. Solid Marvel prose novel, but nothing groundbreaking.

Now the narration of this book was great. J.D. Jackson does an amazing job with all the character voices in this book. The first time I heard his T'Challa and Killmonger I was surprised by how great a voice match J.D. is for both of the characters. This made the retelling a lot more interesting due to the fact I could easily imagine Boseman and Jordan going back and forth throughout the whole book.

3 stars out of 5.

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this ARC audiobook. Black Panther is a superhero near and dear to my heart, so I was super excited to give this a listen. I felt the storytelling was great. The narrator had the perfect raspy voice to accompany this story. Overall, I was not disappointed with this. I received this book as an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. All of these opinions are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC audiobook.

This was a great read. This book follows an arc from the Black Panther comics (not the MCU) about a civil war in Wakanda. It really captured the realities and pain of war and I could feel T'Challa's sorrow over what was happening in his kingdom. There were perspectives from other characters in the book as well, such as T'Challa's love interest Monica, which helped add more depth to the story.

The story itself was pretty fast-paced for the majority of the book, which made this feel like a quick read that you can also get very invested in.

The audiobook narrator was also very nice to listen to and he conveyed the emotions of the book well.

Overall, a fantastic read that makes me want to find other Black Panther books like this one.

Such a great novel, Black Panter is great for anyone who enjoyed the DC Heroes stories put out by SJM, Bardugo, Lu, etc. Sheree Renee Thomas gave what needed to be given with this novel... and I'm left standing here, waiting for more.
