Even though this is the third book in the “Serve and Protect” series, you do not need to read the previous books. I have not read them and this one flowed without feeling as if I was missing a story line. It was a nice surprise to see characters from her previous series, “The Dive Team Investigations.”

The president is coming to Raleigh and local Secret Service Special Agent Tessa Reed is put in charge and works with a member of the advance team, Special Agent Zane Thacker. Zane is looking forward to being back in Raleigh and working with his friends, especially Tessa. While tracking down and clearing threats, they find something that is possibly connected to a secret from Tessa’s past, a secret that only she and Zane know, a secret that could end her career. They also have to deal with the threats to Tessa, is it someone trying to get to her, or to the president? Zane is trying to protect Tessa and her career. Will they succeed at trying to keep her alive and also make sure that the president is safe? Will she still have her job as all the dust settles? Also, will her and Zane work through their issues and get past what is keeping them apart?

Having read the author’s previous series, she is only getting better with her story telling. I did not want to put this book down, I don’t need sleep, right? Right when I thought I had it figured out, a wrench was put into my theory. It had me guessing till the very end.

I was provided a copy of this book by Revell via NetGalley.

This is an amazing book. This is a great standalone book, however you will see other characters from past books making this a great book to read in the order it is meant as well. Love this book. It keeps you guessing and at the edge of your seat, you will not want to stop reading. Love Tessa and Zane.

The third book in the Defend and Protect series will keep readers engaged throughout. The inner workings of the Secret Service comes alight as agent Tessa Reed heads up the team to protect the President when he visits Raleigh. But Tessa also encounters another problem - someone is targeting her. Lots of action, past secrets and an old friendship that sparks an unrequited love is all included in this fast paced story. The ending will leave readers wanting more. Recommended!

This is an enthralling, captivating story this is liable to keep you up way too late at night turning the pages as quickly as possible. From the first page, I was hooked and couldn’t put the book down.
US Secret Service Agent Tessa Reed wakes up in a sleezy motel, with a debilitating hangover and no idea where she is or how she got there. Tessa realizes her drinking is out of control and determines to do something about it.

Fast forward over a year later and Tessa is clear-headed, back at work with a successful rehab experience behind her. Her best friend, US Secret Service Special Agent Zane Thacker is back on assignment in the Raleigh office because the President of the United States will be visiting Raleigh. Tessa has been assigned to be the liaison to the President’s Protection Detail.

The team assigned to the protection detail are all mostly close friends who have previously worked together and have investigative experience as well as protective experience. Despite careful planning, and collaboration with the FBI and Secret Service, they have a few unexpected roadblocks to overcome.

Shockingly, there is an interesting twist to the evening event planned for the President that has a tie to the horrifying experience Tessa had when waking up in the sleezy hotel well over a year earlier.

This book has an interesting cast of characters who deal with unexpected circumstances, and people not originally on the guest list to attend the evening event with the President. Tessa and team not only come together to support one another but they pray together asking for God’s guidance and help when facing overwhelming difficulties. I absolutely loved this book and will be thinking of it for many days.

Thank you to the publisher, Revell, for a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions and comments are my own.

I absolutely love Tessa and Zane. I’m not usually fond of friends to lovers trope but their story was beautifully written. There was a lot of character growth throughout the series with Zane and Tessa and even more in this novel. The suspense was great as well! Very well written story with some twists and turns. I will say there was a little less action than I was expecting but it was still there!
I love how faith was seamlessly woven in to the story and how genuine it felt.
I definitely recommend adding this to your TBR list asap!

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

This was a action packed book I love how this book mixed romance and suspense into one book. The fun part I how one of the main characters Twssa proved herself to be q member almost of the secret service to protect the president. It goes to show if you work hard you can. Fulfill a lot. This book was approved by netgalley and the publisher for me to read and review

The Raleigh office has been through a lot and the team has held together and has each other's backs through thick and thin. This story is about Zane and Tessa, two agents who hadn't found their footing until they recognize their friendship has deepened to something more.

Tessa's addiction to alcohol got her into trouble years ago, Zane's mom struggled with the same leaving him with wounds and a hard time trusting. A horrible, unsolved moment from her past comes to bear on their current assignment as the president comes to town.

The camaraderie between the characters makes you feel you're among friends. And if you've enjoyed the previous stories, this will not disappoint!

*A big thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Wanted to share a quote while I had it pulled up. It's a great reminder that God is always here for is no matter what.
"Let your heart not faint, Do not fear or panic or be in dread of them, for the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies. "
Such a wonderful fast paced story!
Blackburn has knocked this one out of the ball park for sure and certain!
She always keeps her readers engaged from beginning to end and with a lot of twists and turns that will keep you guessing who done it.
I really love that about her stories and this one is my favorite.
One is the cover! Oh my so gorgeous!
Second is the action/adventure this book offers along with hope and faith.
Third favorite is the spiritual messages that are throughout the book like the one I shared earlier in my review.
The characters are realistic and I especially love Zane! He's my favorite because he's so much like me!
Overprotective, caring and most of all I consider him an overthinker!
He's my hero!

Wow! This book was just everything that I had hoped for! Under Fire is the third and final book in Lynn H Blackburn’s Defend and Protect series. I have loved Blackburn’s books since I picked up the first book of hers that I have read, and this book was just as good as her other books.
Oh my goodness, Tessa and Zane! I was so excited to finally read their story and there was so much to unpack. The romance and suspense and faith were the perfect blend and kept me reading!
Tessa was a whirlwind and there was just so much to learn about her. It was so interesting to read about her. She had a lot to work through, but it was sweet to see her learn to rely on God. I loved reading about her interacting with Zane and falling in love. I loved how strong and capable Tessa was. I also adored her relationship with the guys on her team, it was sweet. Tessa had to learn to let others in and to rest in God’s plans.
Zane was also amazing! He was such a sweetheart and I adored him! He had fallen for Tessa hard but they had their issues to work through. Zane had to learn to trust Tessa and what it looked like to care for Tessa. Zane was such a wonderful and strong character, but he did have his own past to work through.
Romance was sweet and I loved the development. Blackburn wrote a wonderful friends to lovers romance. I was rooting for Zane and Tessa from the beginning. The suspense was also so engaging. I was on the edge of my seat as I read this book, I did not want to put it down. It was so good that I finished it in a day.
One thing that I always love about Blackburn’s books is how she weaves in faith so well. These characters are human, they make mistakes but they also learn to trust God. Blackburn portrays characters that feel real who are learning what it means to rest in God who is in control no matter the circumstances.
Under Fire is amazing and thrilling! I would definitely recommend this book, it needs to be on your TBR! I would recommend this book to those who enjoy suspense books, probably at least 13 and up because of the suspense. Under Fire is a clean Christian suspense romance.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher through Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, a positive review was not required.

Tessa and Zane, friends for many years, each dancing around their deeper feelings for each other, both sure the other doesn’t feel that way. Together the two of them and fellow Secret Service agents from the Raleigh office and the Washington DC Presidential detail prepare for a visit by the President. At the same time, Tessa is dealing with a threat towards her personally. There’s plenty going on in this book, a complex tale that mixes the suspense of dealing with threats and the developing romance between Tessa and Zane. Throw in return visits with friends from this series and from the Dive Investigations series, and this is a delightful and entertaining mystery. (Reading previous books in this series or the previous series isn’t necessary, but I always like the return visits with previous characters). This is a great wrap-up to the Defend and Protect series and gives a glimpse, at the end, to the locale Lynn Blackburn will be taking us to next. Great book!

This was a book worth waiting for from the 'Defend and Protect' series. The story could stand alone but you are going to want to read all the other books as they tell the back stories which are illuded to over the course of the book.

I enjoyed the mystery in the story but also the romance which has been hinted at in the prior books in the series. The plot concentrated more on character development rather than a high thriller component. This didn't take away from the book in my opinion. I really enjoyed it.

I liked that the characters didn't rush into a relationship given the heroine's back story. So many times in books, these details are glossed over and solved in what seems like a minute. I'm pleased that Lynn did not take the easy route - I feel that it paints a more realistic picture.

I receive complimentary books for various sources including, Netgalley, Authors, and other such sources. I am not required to write a positive review and have not received compensation.

Lynn has done it again. This book is a poignant and touching love story wrapped in side a pulse-pounding suspense story. The layers are deep and rich. I've wanted this story since the first book in the series, and I can ;t wait to read the book she teased at the end. If you want a sweet and compelling love story but you also want intense action, then this should leap to the top of your TBR pile.

Great book! Great author!
Always enjoy catching up with this group of agents. Love the way they watch out for each other and their true friendships.
Glad to see that Tessa’s recovery story did not involve falling off the wagon.
Looking forward to the next book.

Under Fire by Lynn H. Blackburn is defined as a romantic suspense novel. As the genre suggests, should be plenty of suspense and romance to round out the story. Unfortunately, for my opinion, the story focused 85% on the development of the romance between Tessa and Zane and about 15% on the suspense element. The plot did not move that fast. Plenty of moments for Tessa and Zane to question their budding relationship. Plenty of moments of wondering why or why not that they should be in a relationship. At certain times, there were moments were Tessa's life was put in danger and then the story would plan the presidential patrol, but nothing really pressing. I would assume if a president of the United States would be coming to town, and someone has threaten to bring him harm that the story would be more focused on the protection and trying to figure out who did the threat. But that was not the case. It seemed to be a little important, but not that important to the characters. I would delete the suspense part of the genre title and just call it a contemporary romance novel. While the writing of Blackburn is a delight to read, the plot just didn't deliver what it promised. I wanted more suspense and a sense of urgency for the readers.

I received a complimentary copy of Under Fire by Lynn H. Blackburn through Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
