What a cute read! I loved the premise of this book, so whilst I don't typically reach for YA-romance I'm so glad I did, such a fun, cute read. Would definitely recommend

i loved their friendship and the banter at the beginning and over time how they got closer. they were just adorable, they are literally lizwes coded it’s insane.

After living through a dumpster fire of a Valentine’s Day, Emilie Hornby escapes to her grandmother’s house for some comfort and a consolation pint of Ben & Jerry’s. She passes out on the couch, but when she wakes up, she’s back home in her own bed—and it’s Valentine’s Day all over again. And the next day? Another nightmare V-Day.

Emilie is stuck in some sort of time loop nightmare that she can’t wake up from as she re-watches her boyfriend, Josh, cheat on her day after day. In addition to Josh’s recurring infidelity, Emilie can’t get away from the enigmatic Nick, who she keeps running into—sometimes literally—in unfortunate ways.

How many days can one girl passively watch her life go up in flames? And when something good starts to come out of these terrible days, what happens when the universe stops doling out do-overs?

Ok I wasn’t sure about this one at first I thought it might have been a little too ya for me, but damn it wasn’t and it was so good!!! So good!!

I loved the groundhog’s day of repeating the same day over and over. It was hilarious how Em tried to get around things. But there’s also a deeper level that clenches your heart. I wanted to give both her and Nick giant hugs. They had amazing chemistry and I couldn’t get enough of their banter and interactions!
Definitely left me smiling.

If you love YA then I highly recommend this. It’s funny cute and quirky, but also with a side of stab you in the heart.

This book was adorable! I loved Nick (even with his slight personality shifts from V-Day to V-Day). Josh was a douche and I really didn't like how Emilie kept hanging onto him even after witnessing him cheating on her again...and again...and again. Like cut your losses and get out of there, girl. You're better than this. I thought her and Nick were cute though and I really liked them together. I also really really liked the growth Emilie showed at the end in relation to her Dad moving - I was here. for. it.
Overall, I really loved the writing style and storytelling - it was everything I love in a rom-com and more. I will definitely be picking up a physical copy of The Do-Over when it's released and might have a look at Lynn Painter's back catalogue, and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for her future releases too.

A 5 star read for me. This book included elements such as romance, a bit of science fiction, and fantasy.

I absolutely thought this was a cute, teen romance book, full of sweet characters, and some time-traveling. Emilie at the beginning of the book was a bit of an eh type of girl, where she couldn’t let go of her romantic life, until she was stuck in this loop, causing her to bump into Nick, every day. I think Emilie’s character development was very well done. She accepted her fate and what had happened. She became the person she was gonna love and fell in love with someone else in the process. I think the science fiction element of this book was really good, it kept me on edge to see what the new day would bring, how her day would turn out if it was any different from before or the same.

The Do-Over is about a girl named Emilie, who finds herself repeating the same nightmare on Valentine's Day, over and over again, where her boyfriend cheats on her. She however finds herself constantly bumping into the same guy in the loop. Emilie, Nick, and fate, always manage to cross each other's paths. But how many days will it take for her to get out of this loop? Read to find out.

Over the past few years there’s been a growing collection of Groundhog Day type stories. The top two in my opinion have been Lauren Oliver’s Before I Fall, and this one.

Before I Fall had all the drama, The Do-Over had all the wit and cuteness of a classic YA Romcom.

It was fun, well written, and a wonderful day spent reading.

Thank you to Lynn Painter, Simon & Schuster (Australia) and NetGalley for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is such a fun YA romance that had me captivated throughout. Emilie has just had the most terrible Valentines Day where everything went wrong. She heads to her Grandmas house to spend the night but wakes up the next morning and it's the 14th February all over again. Everyday she has to keep doing Valentines over and over again, reliving seeing her boyfriend Josh cheat on her whilst literally running into Nick, the surly boy from Chemistry time and time again.
This book is written so well that it really sucked me into Emilie's nightmare Valentines Day. I loved unravelling the truth about Nick and seeing what Emilie would try to do to get out of her groundhog day.
The perfect feel good, easy read.
Thanks to Simon and Schuster and Netgalley.com for my complimentary eARC copy.

Thank you so much to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy of this book, all thoughts are my own.

I really enjoyed this book a lot, it was RomCom with some serious Groundhog Day thrown in and I enjoyed every second of it.

In this book we have Emilie who is living between both of her parents homes while dating some cute guy at school. Life probably isn’t as good as it could be for her but like lots of people, she is stuck in the daily routine and just goes about her life.

I really enjoyed the storyline of this book, it was cute and funny and definitely sweet in some parts of it. I really liked the friendship that her and Nick built, they had such a sweet trusting relationship that you would think they had been friends for longer than they had. Sometimes people just click, and sometimes things just happen for a reason.

Such a good fun read, I definitely recommend it.

On Valentine's Day, Emilie is all set to tell her boyfriend Josh that she loves him but then she sees him at school kissing another girl. Emilie just wants to put the awful day behind her but when she opens her eyes the following morning, she's astounded to see it's Valentine's Day again. And the next day too...and the day after that. Emilie decides to enjoy being in the time loop by trying to change up the days....but the big question, will she ever find her way out?

Groundhog day kinda books can get quite repetitive so I was a bit worried about this one. I really didn't need to be. It's Lynn Painter for starters! Her books are the best and if anyone could make it interesting, it would definitely be her. This book was seriously cute. I loved everything about it! The love story, the banter, the friendships and the family relationships. If you enjoy YA romcoms, make sure this one is on your list.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing for a copy of this ARC. All thoughts are my own.

I loved this. I picked The Do-Over up for the fun-sounding groundhog's day synopsis, but the real winner here is the character development of Emilie, the main protagonist.

Emilie's starting point in this novel paints someone who is settling for what everyone else wants for her life. Her parents' divorce and subsequent lax parenting of her because she's "such a good kid" has done enough damage to her belief system of being important enough. At first, I was a little dubious about how this would all affect her when the repetition of Valentine's Day kept occurring, but the startling evidence of how each day could still keep her as seemingly irrelevant in several areas of her life was written well. I enjoyed watching Emilie grow exasperated with every repeating day, and almost every opportunity by the adults and important figures in her life being thrown away. Despite the anxiety I felt on the 'DONC', this is where the book and Emilie's character development began to shine. I was so invested in her opening up and showing the world more than what they were getting from her, and sharing those vulnerabilities with Nick, that by the time bigger revelations came into play, I was emotionally attached. I wanted Emilie to have more from her family, her schooling ideals, and as an individual. I'm not ashamed to say this book made me cry!

Nick is a fantastic MMC. I loved him from the first moment we meet him, and the revelation of why he behaved the way he did was heart-wrenching. I could have read about Nick all day long. And when the romance picked up between Nick and Emilie, it was believable, very rewarding, and just the right level of steam and wholesome for a teen romance. I wish I had a Nick when I was Emilie's age.

The reason why Valentine's Day kept repeating was incorporated well. Was it 100% realistic? No, but I was satisfied with the importance of the date and the need for both Nick and Emilie to spend it together.

The tone of this book is very YA-appropriate. I felt like I was reading about a sixteen-year-old girl, and her reactions - even the dramatic ones - were on point. I also appreciated that Nick, who has gone through a great deal and spends more time with adults as a result, had a more mature personality, and yet was still a teenager trying to deal with complicated emotions. I really commend the author for capturing their ages right.

This was my first time reading something written by Lynn Painter, but it definitely won't be the last. I enjoyed every moment of this book, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an emotional but wholesome self-discovery YA novel.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I think I’m officially addicted to Lynn Painter’s books. I read Better than the Movies last month and really enjoyed it so I was thrilled by the opportunity to read more of her work.

In this book, Emiline is trapped in a ‘groundhog day’ time loop where she keeps re-living the 14th of February. Unlike the perfect Valentine’s Day she planned, she keeps reliving the day where anything that can go wrong - absolutely does. The time loop aspect was done so well as each day was really different and I kept giggling about how everything would backfire. What makes this story though is the characters - I’m obsessed with Emiline and Nick, I loved how their relationship developed it was the perfect ‘strangers’ to lovers story. I just need to find my ‘Nick’ for a day of not caring. This relationship is amazing but I think why I love this book so much is Emiline overcoming her internal struggles - it was great to see her go from living for everyone else to living for herself. And I loved explanation as to why the ‘timeloop’ happened it was just so sweet.

If you were hesitant to pick this one up because it’s a YA Rom Com, I would still definitely recommend this one. Lynn Painter has a way of writing characters that are so incredible that the stories don’t feel young or immature. Instead we get these incredible self-discovery stories and explorations as to how they are shaped by their past.

I would highly recommend checking this one out when it comes out on the 15/11/2022. (eBook) - in Aus the paperback comes out on the 30/11/2022. If you loved Better than the Movies you’ll love this one.

Thank you NetGalley and (publisher) for gifting this eARC for review consideration. All opinions are my own, I will continue to provide honest reviews of all books.

*Possible triggers warnings* Please be aware that there is an incident of cheating/infidelity between the FMC’s boyfriend and other female. This book does also explore complex emotions around living with split parents/separate living environments.

Another fantastic book by the one and only Lynn Painter. I fell in love with her writing when I read Better than the movies, but I've more deeply loved this book.
I loved how all the characters come together, especially Em & Nick. The time loop, how everything pans out on Valentine's day.
If you love rom.com books, this one is definitely for you, you won't be disappointed.
I give this five stars out of 5.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC for my honest review.

this book has:

- groundhog day/time loop situation
- frenemies/chem partners to lovers
- witty banter & wholesome fluff
- taylor swift references
- day of no consequences (donc)

emilie has a terrible valentine's day & finds herself stuck repeating the same day over and over again. the time loop has her constantly crossing paths with her chemistry partner, nick & after several repeated days, emilie decides to let loose and have a day of no consequences, doing whatever she wants, whenever she wants, and she also invites nick to be part of her donc.

i've been a fan of lynn painter since i read better than the movies, and all the other books of hers i've read since then has only further confirmed that! i'm not a big fan of YA books but she writes them perfectly! i adored both mcs and they both had amazing and realistic character growth throughout the book. this book also had great discussions of complicated family relationships as well as healthy depictions of therapy. lynn painter is definitely one of my favourite authors and i would read anything that she writes!

tw: loss of family member, divorce & strained family relationships

I did not know how I was going to like this book going in to it. Especially being my first time reading a book written by Lynn Painter. But I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

It follows Emilie who relives Valentines day over and over again. And as she tries to figure out how to get out of this endless loop she may find herself falling in love. But not with who she would have expected.

I loved this story for a few reasons. Firstly I thought it was written well and easy to follow. Also the story itself was interesting enough that it kept you wanting to read more and more to find out what was going to happen next. I loved how Emilie realised that doing things perfectly isn't always the answer and you need to live a little.

I think people are going to really enjoy this. No matter if they've read one of Lynn's other books or not. This is the book for every fan of YA.

Quick summary:
♥️ Set on Valentine’s Day
🔬 Lab partners to lovers
⏰ Time loop
👩🏼‍🦰 People pleasing FMC who lets loose
🧑🏻 He pretends not to know her to play it cool, but is really obsessed with her
🌲 Lots of pining
👱🏻‍♀️ Taylor Swift references
🛻 Riding in cars with Nick Stark
❤️‍🔥 Great banter and tension
👨‍👩‍👧 Complicated parental relationships

Let me preface this by saying I LOVE LYNN PAINTER. Every book of hers that I’ve read has just hit me right in the feels and always leaves me feeling warm and fuzzy. I loved Nick and Emilie’s story. Emilie starts off being a high achieving people pleaser, trying to appease her parents, compete academically with her boyfriend and get into her dream school. All is going to plan, except for a horrendous Valentine’s Day, which turns into a time loop nightmare. Emilie is a great character - I loved seeing her slowly let go and go after the things she wants, including Nick Stark. Her ‘Day Of No Consequences’ has him tagging along and them both realising they were the perfect match. Although half the shit Emilie got up to had me stressing OUT. Nick is such a fun character - most of what he said had me laughing. Also, we love a smitten boy who will do anything for her. I really enjoyed this and read it in one sitting!

Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC!

"I felt like he knew me. And I rarely felt that from anyone."

I think this may be one of my new favourite books. Emmie and Nick find themselves meeting again and again, but there is a plot twist on Emmie's end. When Emmie asked Nick to spend the day with her because of the DONC and he gets up without hesitation, their story begins. We see them go on adventures and watch them slowly fall for each other. The way they understood each other and were able to open up about themselves without feeling like they were being judged was so special to me.

THE BANTER!!!! THE FRIENDS TO LOVERS!!!!! THE GRUMPY X SUNSHINE !!!! I related to Emilie so much, I wanted to give her a big hug. My precious little boy Nick, he was so special, I love him so much. Lynn Painter books just scratch the right part of my brain and I absolutely adore them. Everytime there was a Taylor Swift reference I would get so smiley. I love the way Lynn Painter writes and I cant wait to read more of her future work <3

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers SO MUCH for this arc!! I was absolutely thrilled to receive it :)

Thank you to Simon & Schuster and Netgalley for a free ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is my first of Lynn Painter's books, but this one has me wanting to devour all of them as quickly as possible. I enjoyed every single second of this book, from the moment I opened it on my Kindle to the moment that I reached the final page.
Firstly, what a gorgeous book. The cover design and art at the beginning are so pretty and made me want to read the book even more!
But we all know the real reason that we're here: for what's inside the book.
I have to admit that I feel like this sort of plot is a little overused in the romance genre - the idea of a day on repeat that teaches the MC about love and romance - but it doesn't make this book any less enjoyable. Truthfully, I think we as readers will turn to this book for the nostalgia of Valentine's Day and our first loves.
However, I did get a little bored because of this, but as I said, it in no way makes the book any worse.
I related very deeply to Emilie as a high-achieving high school student, and it was very nice to feel seen by the romance genre, not just as a comic-relief character that's firmly against romance and tries to convince the MC not to pursue their own. To have a success-oriented MC with a logic-based approach to love was refreshing and really fun! My one problem with Emilie was that for someone so smart, she didn't realise that the moment she took advantage of the repeating days and did some bolder things, it would no longer repeat. Like seriously, even I could tell that the moment she was mean and got her tattoo, the day wasn't going to repeat anymore. This was the only thing that made me really annoyed with this book because it was really predictable and made me a bit frustrated with Emilie.
I absolutely adored Nick, who quite literally filled the void in my life. He was such a gorgeous specimen and had me laughing, blushing and wishing on every star in the sky that such a boy could be real. And the best part? He READS.
I know.
I must be dreaming.
I'm in awe of how cute and sweet this rom-com is, and how much I found myself laughing or kicking my feet while giggling. I absolutely adore this book.
