Deadly Craving by OMJ Ryan.
A Detective Jane Phillips Novel.
After a lengthy leave of absence, DCI Jane Phillips is back in Major Crimes, neck deep in the most macabre murder investigation of her career. The naked body of a famous sportsman has been laid out in a churchyard, wrapped in a white shawl, surrounded by flowers. Stranger still, his heart is missing. With such a high profile victim, the pressure to find the murderer is instant and extreme. And it only increases when the killer strikes again – leaving behind another mutilated body, posed in exactly the same way. With no obvious connection between the two victims, Phillips turns to profiler Dr. Siobhan Harris. Can she help to identify the perpetrator or discover the motive behind these brutal murders? But no one could have prepared Phillips for what the doctor is about to reveal. Everything points to a killer on a mission, and a body count that’s likely to double within days – unless Phillips can stop the murderous psychopath, hell bent on satisfying his own Deadly Craving..
A brilliant read. Gruesome. I did like Jane. I do hope there is more to come. 5*.

I've been following this series ever since the first book came out back in 2019, and it is one of those detective series that just keeps delivering. I honestly wasn't sure if there was going to be another book after how things ended in Deadly Night, so I was over the moon when I first heard the news about another Detective Jane Phillips adventure. And it is without doubt another successful and highly engaging detective thriller sequel! This series has that certain je-ne-sais-quoi that makes you want to keep turning those pages, and I can recommend the whole lot if you are a fan of the genre.

It's true that you can technically read Deadly Craving as a stand-alone, but I personally wouldn't recommend doing so because you will be missing out on both character background and key events that happened in the previous books. And you most definitely don't understand the full impact of what Fox is like if you haven't suffered through her behavior in the first couple of books! Deadly Craving does go easy on a personal level this time around, which is more than welcome after such an explosive previous sequel. The books in this series have all been great so far in general, so they are well worth your time if you need to catch up.

This sequel starts with Jane Phillips returning to work after a long break (not surprisingly with what happened in book seven), and she sure doesn't have time to adjust before she is thrown into another shocking murder investigation. There is something strange and dark about the murder from the very beginning, and this only makes you want to turn those pages even faster so you can discover just how far the killer will take things. The building up of suspense and development of plot twists is excellent, and I never guessed the full truth behind it all. I also had such a great time meeting up with Phillips and the rest of her team again! Their banter is just great.

There is something about the writing style that is extremely engaging, and combined with a fast pace and intriguing plot you will find yourself at the last page in no time whatsoever. Deadly Craving turned out to be another pageturner and a very successful detective thriller sequel, and I already can't wait what the next book has in store for us.

A gruesome novel which is part of a series that I love. The characters are amazing, you don't automatically guess the killer. Which keeps it interesting
I would totally recommend if you love police procedures in a series

A fun series even if it’s predictable at times.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Inkubator Books for an advance copy of Deadly Craving, the eighth novel to feature DCI Jane Phillips of Greater Manchester Police’s Major Crimes Unit.

On Jane’s first day back after a nine month sabbatical she is once more plunged into a murder investigation. The body of a former boxer is found in a graveyard, dressed only in a white shawl and surrounded by white flowers with his heart missing. It’s high profile and high pressure and only gets worse when another body is found in similar circumstances. Jane calls on profiler Dr Siobhan Harris for help and what she thinks is worse than they could imagine.

I thoroughly enjoyed Deadly Craving, which is the most gruesome novel in the series, not in terms of graphic violence but in what is done and the motive behind it. The motive is a bit esoteric but it’s interesting and informative.

I have come to see Jane and her team as old friends after 8 novels, so it’s good to see them back in the groove, working hard and winding each other up, with this offering some laughs and light relief in an otherwise tense, fast moving novel. The author has a very readable writing style, easy prose, some laughs and an ability to communicate the tension and urgency of the investigation. If you ignore the decoration of how the murders are done and the motive, the basic plot is fairly standard - run down all leads until the murderer is caught. Not that I have any objection to this as I like a good police procedural, especially when it’s as well done as this one is. It’s an entertaining page turner so the reader can’t ask for much more.

Deadly Craving is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Phillips had taken a leave from being chief detective. Now a call of a terrible death and she once again being pulled into the dark side of the world.
The victim had gotten into drinking and gambling, secrets and debts could be the motive. An unusual text to his soon ex wife, which didn’t make any sense to her. A difficult case, and Phillips wondered if she made a mistake.
Was she glad to be back for this almost cost her, her life. A good plot as you followed Phillips and to get the killer.
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion by Net Galley & iInkubator. .

⭐⭐⭐⭐ -- Great cover!

I saw this book available as a "Read Now" on NetGalley and the synopsis caught my interest. I never heard of this author before and wasn't sure what to expect, but this turned out to be a brilliant book! Really well written. A quick read that I finished in a day. A plot that was engaging (and a little 🤮😂) that kept me guessing. A great cast of likable characters, and it was all wrapped up in a satisfying ending. I will definitely be keeping my eyes out for more from this author! 👍🏻👍🏻

Deadly Craving: A Detective Jane Phillips Novel by OMJ Ryan is the first book I've read by this author. I may go back and read the other books. I was able to read this book in one afternoon as it held my interest and kept me turning the pages until the plot-twisty ending.

I love all the covers of this book series. DCI Jane Phillips is back to work after being gone for 10 months due to events from the previous book. Right off the bat, she is thrust into a murder mystery. A victim is found and is missing his heart. As the body count rises, Jane and her team are on the hunt for this diabolical killer. The book is set in Manchester and I love the atmosphere and descriptions.

DCI Phillips is a strong character. She is relatable, and the author is able to craft a twisty and page-turning story with solid characters. Deadly Craving is a well-developed police procedural.

I would recommend this book and will read more from this author. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Rate 4 out of 5 for the reasoning for the killings is kind of a typical trope, but overall, a good story.

I love all things crime shows and true crime so I was really excited for this book. But it was really hard for me to get into it and follow along with the story. Maybe if I went back and read all of the other books in the series, I would enjoy it more, but I was under the impression these could all be read as a standalone.
