I’ve read books by Allison Brennan for years and was excited to see another book featuring Regan Merritt. The first book, The Sorority Murders, gives you a hint of her background and this book gives you more, providing the answer to the mystery of why her son was killed.

The story takes you through all the twists and turns leading to a mostly satisfying conclusion. I recommend this book and am hoping Ms. Brennan will continue Regan’s story and we find out what’s next for her.

Allison Brennan is an incredible author! I absolutely love her books and her latest did not disappoint! This book has twists and turns and moments that will make your jaw drop. Regan Merritt is a complicated and fascinating character—I cannot wait to read more about her in (hopefully!) future books. I wish I could give this book more than five stars!

This one had some heart wrenching parts, I could feel the pain.
Regan has lost a lot, she is such a strong woman. This was full of suspense and I loved watching Regan blossom throughout.

I read Sorority Murders, the first book in this series, immediately prior to reading Don't Open the Door and was excited to learn more about Regan's background and the reason her son was murdered. I found that this was fully explored and the various threads tied together well. I did feel that parts of the book were too long and dragged at times. Overall, I liked it - a solid 3.5 star read, and would likely read more books featuring Regan.

This is a book two, but I don't think there are any spoilers from the first book below. I'm just not positive.

Regan wasn't doing well back in Flagstaff, but she liked being with her dad. She was happy to leave Virginia behind even though she really didn't feel like she had closure from her son's murder. Her not ex husband, Grant, blamed her and it hurt. Regan was a US Marshal. She knew there were risks, but none of it ever added up. The man that shot her son was killed in prison. The reasons the FBI gave didn't make sense. Regan's best friend Tommy took a leave from work and was trying to solve Chase's murder. Tommy called Regan and said he had enough to bring in for a new investigation to start. But Tommy was killed by a sniper that morning. The gunman took all his papers, laptop, and phone. And then he had orders to clean up all the lose ends. That meant than anyone that Tommy talked to about the case would be killed. Regan found out that Grant had been talking with Tommy for a few weeks. She needed to find out what he knew, but he was avoiding her. Regan worked with Charlie, another marshal and friend, and they tried to put all the pieces together. Regan knows that she might finally get answers and will know for sure that Chase wasn't murdered because of her.

I really enjoyed this. The pacing was great and there was a lot to the story.

I gave this book 4 stars.

Way too much back story before the story even begins or maybe the back story is the story? Either way, this book wasn’t engaging or even a complete thought. Not for me.

Welcome To The Next Verse, Same As The First. Looking back over my review of The Sorority Murders, book 1 of this series, and having read literally 247 books in the 354 days since reading it... much of what I said about the first book could well be said here as well. Specifically, this is also a "solid mystery that could have used better pacing" and it is also "an interesting and compelling mystery that will keep you guessing until it wants to reveal it secrets – and then transitions into a bit more of an action/ suspense tale to finish up the case". The body count is seemingly a touch lower here, and the innovative use of podcasting is gone, but the overall solid mystery and, yes, perhaps bloat as well, absolutely remain. For a more average reader who perhaps will read only a *few* books between entries in the series, it is likely going to be an overall better experience, but there is absolutely enough here that even if you don't remember the details of the first book, you're not going to be lost following the actions here. As it seems to conclude the threads left dangling in the first book and doesn't really leave many, if any, of its own, this could well serve as either a series finale or as a mechanism to allow the series to proceed without too many entanglements to prior books - and thus it will be interesting to see if and/ or how Brennan chooses to move forward here. Very much recommended.

Regan Merritt is back in the sequel to The Sorority Murder. This time we get more of Regan’s back story and find out how, and why, her son was killed. Brennan unfolds this story through multiple character perspectives and small puzzle pieces along the way. The story is action packed and suspenseful from the very beginning, and readers won’t want to put this one down. Regan’s story was worth waiting for, and Brennan definitely delivered.

I struggled to get into this one. I've enjoyed this author's books for me, but I didn't like this one as much. I haven't read the first Reagan Merritt book, so maybe that is why I didn't connect with the character as much.

I had enjoyed the first book the Sorority Murder and it left me wanting to read more with Regan Merritt. It was a interesting concept and worked well with the first book. I enjoy the way Allison Brennan wrote this series and the other book that I read Tell No Lies, each one had a great mystery aspect and I enjoying trying to figure out what was going on. The characters did a great job in being real people and I enjoyed this a lot.

I enjoyed book #1 in this series and was excited to read another book with Regan as the main character. The premise is a child is shot while playing video games at home. His mother will stop at nothing to find out who did it—and why. This book is good but not great - gives me Law and Order Organized Crime vibes - very white collar, rich white men with dirty coverups. The ending was slightly disappointing too but I look forward to see what's next in the series

I discovered Allison Brennan after reading ‘The Sorority Murder’ earlier this year - this is also book 1 of the series but not necessary to read before this book - and immediately knew she’d become an author I need to read more of. I love her writing style and her ability to put together well thought out mysteries with perfect pacing.

The characters are well developed, the pacing is fast and the twists are plenty!

The beginning chapter does a lot to draw readers in and hook them immediately and make them want to know who kills Tommy and the connection to the murder of Regan’s son. From there it’s fast paced with lots of twists and secrets being revealed until the shocking finale!

Allison Brennan you’ve done it again! I can’t wait for my next ready by you.

Don't open the door is an intriguing story that will keep you on the edge of your seat . The characters will keep you guessing what's their secret and how will things turn out. Lots of twists to following the clues .

One of the things I really like about the Allison Brennan books I've read so far is that different characters in the book all have pieces of the puzzle that will help to solve the crime. And you know that if they only talked to each other, the crime would be solved quicker.

The book is very suspenseful and I found myself eager to keep reading to see how it would all fit together. I'll put in my usual caveat that I'm not fond of guns and shootouts, so I really wish there was less of that. (And I really have to question the wisdom of giving Grant a gun.... wouldn't it have been better in the hands of a trained professional? But I digress.)

Anyhow, a very enjoyable read.

This book can be read as a standalone book. At the beginning I wasn't so sure (and I had not read the Sorority Murder, i.e. book 1). I thought that book 1 covered the bank robbery mentioned in this book. But no. Now I've started book 1, and it takes place after that robbery, so that can't be it.

This was my first Allison Brennen book. I didn't realize that "Don't Open the Door' is the second in a series following Regan Merritt and while I would have probably enjoyed this book more already having a level of familiarity with these characters I was still able to follow the storyline. This book was a bit boring for me, maybe I should have read "The Sorority Murder" first but there were parts that dragged on. I don't know if I will go back and read the first Regan Merritt book but I would likely give Allison Brennen another try on a different series.

This book took a little bit for me to get into it but once I did, it was very hard to put down! Holy cow, the tentacles of the case and criminals! now THIS is what a gripping crime drama book is like! You had to keep everyone (all the bad guys) straight, but I would rather have that then a very flimsy book but that easy to figure out. this book kept me turning the pages to figure out what was happening until the very end!

Regan was a US Marshal until her son was killed while playing video games in his house. Her husband was a lawyer and blamed her job for his death. They divorce and she moves back to Arizona, after quitting her job. Her fellow agent, Tommy, best friend, and one time lover is still investigating the shooting. He is leaving his house, taking evidence to his colleague, when he is shot in his yard. Regan comes back for the funeral and stays in his house and promises to find his killer. She finds evidence her ex husband has been meeting with Tommy. As the pieces start to come together, she needs her ex to help take down the ones responsible for their sons death and Tommy’s.

Excellent, fast paced, action and suspense. Be prepared to keep reading into the night. It was hard to put down.

This one was easily more than 5 stars! I saved it because I have previously read one from this author so I knew it would be great! It did not disappoint! It was compelling and riveting! A page turner I could not put down!
