I have just finished reading The Ferryman by Author Justin Cronin.

This is the first book that I have read by the Author, although I have had him on my want to read list for awhile.

I must say that this venue is not one that I normally gravitate towards, when choosing my books.

However, I did find it very intriguing, interesting, complex, and very well written.

The story starts of by introducing us to The Archipelago Prospera, which is a world unlike anything anyone could imagine.

We meet the main character Proctor Bennet who is a Ferryman, who takes people through a retirement process.

One that is very unusual.

The story was very gripping and had me absorbed in the words for about two thirds of the book, then there are some very surprising turns of events. It was a little hard for me to keep from being a little confused at this stage.

It really is a must read for all those who like this style of a book..

Thank You to NetGalley, the Author and Penguin Random House Canada for my advanced copy to read and review.

Solid read from a fan favourite. Justin Cronin's world building is wonderful - his characters fully developed. Thank you for an early look at this new title. It should have broader appeal than his earlier series.

I was pleased to be able to read this because I enjoy Justin Cronin's writing, and loved the Passage trilogy. I'm not sure how to categorize this book, because it's one of those that I'll end up rereading after it has been published, just to find the tidbits that I missed the first time around. There are a lot of moving parts, that meld well together in the end, but getting there is an enjoyable journey.

Another review said that it's like Westworld meets Inception, and upon reflection, that's an excellent way to describe it - without giving anything away.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House/Doubleday for the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

How does he do it? I want to be inside Justin Cronin's brain to see just how it works its magic because his writing is absolutely incredible! I loved The Passage trilogy, so much so that I was kind of hesitant to start The Ferryman because I figured that there was no way he could create something as amazing as that again. I was wrong, however, because he has definitely raised the bar to a new level. I want to be swept away by a story, so much so that I forget the real world around me, but I also love a book that leaves me feeling braindead from trying to digest new and original concepts and possibilities and twists that I have to wrap my head around. The Ferryman checks all those boxes and then some. I'm not even going to try to explain the plot. All I will ask is how can we know for sure what is a dream and what is real? I highly recommend this book, and I really hope that Justin comes back to Canada again because I would love to hear him speak about the concepts in this book.

A bit slow in the first half but definitely worth the wait. The second half is excellent. Complicated characters that seem to invite the reader to disagree with their decisions.

The Ferryman is the best book I've read in a long time. It's perfect for anyone who enjoys extremely well-written dystopian and/or sci-fi novels that explore the nature of time and reality -- and ultimately the enduring human connections that give meaning to it all.

I will definitely buy a copy when it comes out to enjoy again as a reader and learn from as a writer.

Amazing and complex! This is the novel I was expecting after reading his previous book! We can recognize the style and see the improvement!

Proctor Bennett is a Ferryman, the person who accompanies those who are retiring on to the ferry to the next phase of their life on the island of Prospera. All is well until he accompanies his father and suddenly everything is changed. An emotional dystopian, sci fi, fantasy that leaves you reeling. Prospera is very believable and the incidents that happen are all too realistic in a world gone crazy. Sometimes as story lines change my mind was a bit confused but Cronin always leads you out into perfect understanding. This is a must read for those those who have read The Passage trilogy or who just love Justin Cronin's works. A totally enjoyable read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Pengun Random House for the advanced reader's copy.
