Neve is a one of a triad for an Irish god of war. Everytime they die they are reborn without their memories and must live as humans, or as human as possible until their 18th birthday. Neve is the youngest of the triad but the most ready to ascend, until she meets Alexandria.

Ravensong was a very fast paced sapphic grumpy/sunshine urban fantasy novel. I did not see the twist at the end coming and I'm looking forward to the release of the next book.

What I love about Ravensong has to be Neve. The ways in which she is haunted by the visions of her sisters dying, of the lives she lived before. Combined with the responsibility she feels to protect the mortal realm, why should she care about high school? She lives a life which is largely isolated. I guess that is what comes from only being able to tell your sisters and the nuns about who you are. But when she meets Alexandria her world explodes in sparks.

Alexandria doesn't allow Neve to escape. She shows her the 'mundane' joys, the comforts we can have in friends, and the ways in which connection may mean more to lose, but also more to gain. We love a sunshine grumpy pair and Neve and Alexandria are that to a T.

Okay…since most of y’all probably don’t know this, I am very drawn to books with a focus on the Morrigan, and on ravens and crows. I collect crow and raven merchandise. So when I heard about this book, I obviously NEEDED to get a copy in my hands. Thankfully Simon & Schuster via NetGalley granted me access to Ravensong early.

And y’all…I LOVED this book.

If you are a lover of Celtic Mythology, particularly if you enjoy interpretations of the Morrigan, then I sincerely believe that you will enjoy this book.

Neve is so detached and, honestly prickly, in the beginning. Even with both her sisters and the nuns who care for them all telling her to be a part of things, that it is their responsibility to be attached to humanity, as a way to understand what they’re fighting to protect.

And so it was such a joy to watch as she meets Alexandria, tries to continue to keep her distance, but Alexandria (like the library) keeps pushing her way into Neve’s life, and even welcomes others to share in the time as well. Seeing Neve grow attached to her new friend group and start to realize that she feels the same protective urges with them that she used to only feel for her sisters…it was great.

There were funny moments and emotional moments and action packed moments and the bonds of sisterhood all intertwined in such a lovely way. It is a book not just about family by blood but also found family.

Honestly, I want to read this book again already. I absolutely loved it. And this is the first of a duology, so there’s still more story to tell, and you better believe that I’ve got it on my Most Anticipated Releases list already.

I’m absolutely getting myself a finished copy, perhaps multiple copies, as soon as this book is out in the world.

If you’re looking for Celtic mythology, grumpy x sunshine romance, and sisters with cool powers, this is definitely a book to check out. Ravensong has an interesting premise in an area of mythology I’d love to see more of (I have Irish heritage myself and raised on some Irish folklore). Neve and her two sisters together make up the goddess Morrigan, the Irish goddess of war. When they die, they are reincarnated, but in this lifetime, Neve is just your average teenager, unable to come into her powers until she turns 18.

The book was a quick read and engaging, definitely one you could read in one sitting. At times, it seemed a little more middle grade than YA, but in a way that was refreshing because it helped avoid some common YA pitfalls. The characters actually *seemed* their age, instead of a 20-something in a high schooler's body. As for the characters, I loved them all, with a special emphasis on Alexandria (like the library, iykyk). And, this book ends on a nice twist and cliffhanger, which has me waiting impatiently for the next book!!

4.5 stars, rounded up.

Ravensong is marketed as Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Celtic mythology. In Ravensong, we meet Neve who has spent a lifetime defending the mortal world and Neve just happens to be one of the Morrigan's, who are a triad of Irish War Gods. However, Neve has been stuck in high school and has been counting down to her eighteenth birthday, which is when she can finally can get rid of the humanity she does not want and can finally grow into her divine power. Things change though when were meets Alexandria. Alexandria becomes determined to get were to be some what of a normal teenager. Both Alexandria and Neve grow close, were comes to the realization that may be love and humanity just may not be that bad. However, with love, it can be a dangerous situation - especially when something from Hell wants Alexandria.

I have been looking forward to reading Ravensong once I learned about it.

When I first started the book, I was unsure if I would even enjoy, but once I got more
into the book, I started to enjoy it.

I am really liking how books are incorporating mythology and I have not come across a book with Celtic mythology until now. I enjoyed that this book has diversity as well.

Neve definitely has great character growth throughout the book.

The twist was definitely something I would have guessed.

This was definitely a fast paced and fun read.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'm going to start this review with what might seem like me rambling, but stay with me. There's a point here.
Now, I have major time management issues (thanks ADHD!) and a tendency to over-request books on NetGalley, so I have to set myself arbitrary deadlines for the books I'm approved for. That arbitrary deadline is that I do my damnedest to read and review my ARCs before the book is released. Somehow, it slipped my attention when requesting this book (or neglecting to withdraw my request) that the release date was coming up. I was approved for this book the DAY BEFORE it released, which threw my whole list into disarray. Now, if this book had not lived up to or exceeded my expectations I would have been very upset. BUT. This book was FANTASTIC so I'm not even mad. Thanks for sitting through all that to get to the point.

When I saw "Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Celtic mythology" I was beyond intrigued. I love both of those things! And this book puts a fun, refreshing spin on it, with some decent twists and turns throughout, and, fair warning, a big cliffhanger at the end. The romance was frankly, adorable, and the banter was top-notch. I highlighted so many excellent quotes that I then immediately screenshot and shared with my bestie, who was appropriately amused by them. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment in this duology!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC of this novel. 4/5 stars.

Man, I'm a sucker for book covers like this and then you tie in the Morrigan and sapphic love and mythology and I'm like GIVE ME. This isn't advertised as the beginning of a series BUT IT IS AND THE CLIFFHANGER IS ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL and also like...basically the entire plot is revealed in the last 20 pages and I was so confused why NONE of it was really indicated at all and now I'm like...okay I totally need more explanation.

I like Neve though and Alexandria and how the whole Morrigan thing is actually Neve and her three sisters in some mythical rebirth cycle of only them and none of the other irish pantheon...I also like the random found family that happened with Neve and Alexandria and the other outcasts at the HS

I will continue to read the series (I am hoping it's a series) because I like the way Morrigan and the Danu and their powers and all of these things have been created...I just wish there was a bit more world building in this book.

Really enjoyed reading this title. Strong, familial bonds are featured and the backstory for the demi-gods is well done. The only thing I didn't care for was that too many chapters ended in a character getting hurt and then they pass out. It's a quick way to move to a new setting, but it got old after awhile.

Ravensong is a quick and entertaining read, but it was ultimately just okay for me. I enjoyed the premise - Neve and her two sisters are demigods tasked with guarding the Hellgate and preventing demons from entering the mortal world. They reincarnate each time they die, but don’t come into their power again until age 18, when they also regain all of their memories of their past lives. Neve’s birthday is only a few months away and she needs to stay alive until then or the cycle ends for all three of them.

There’s great character development, a grumpy/sunshine sapphic romance, and badass demon slaying sisters with unique powers. I enjoyed seeing Neve form new relationships after closing herself off for so long, but the teenage romance was a little cheesy at times and I don’t really like pop culture references in books. I definitely didn’t see the big twist coming and it ends on a decent cliffhanger, but I’m not sure if it was enough to make me continue the series.

Thank you to Simon and Schuster and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

this was such a good start to this series, I was glad I was able to read this. Cayla Fay has a great writing style that worked with the fantasy element. It does a great job in continuing the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Celtic mythology" and glad I got to see the mythology elements. It does what I was hoping for and I enjoyed how good the characters were. I can't wait to see where this series goes from here and from the author.

"Neve reveled in the strangeness of being a Morgan, which her sisters had purposely offset by joining human activities and being polite, even friendly, to their classmates. Gods, why bother? Why not lean into it? All Neve had to do was glower at anyone who looked at her sideways and they learned to steer clear. Not that it was hard. Neve’s naturally downturned mouth was meant for scowling, so it didn’t take much effort to look like she was one snide comment away from slashing someone’s tires."

An interesting story full of twists, turns, fun characters and overall a book I would consider reading time and time again.

I really enjoyed this book. I love how it took Irish Gods and used it as a basis for this modern demon hunting story. I loved Neve as a main character. She's very headstrong and stubborn which are two qualities that I love in a bad ass main character. I loved getting to see her open up more and more as the story continued. I also loved seeing her make friends and have a love interest even though she is such a loner. The ending was insane and it was something that I did not see coming. I love it and I'm intrigued to see what happens in the next book!

Never has spent her life defending the world from the legions of Hell with her sisters. Unfortunately for her, she’s the only one still stuck in high school, waiting for the moment where all of her memories come back. She can’t wait for her 18th birthday, when she’ll finally shed her humanity and grow into her divine power as a Morrigan.

But Alexandria, the new girl, throws a wrench in her plan. Alexandria gets Neve to participate in some of the “normal” things that teenagers do. Including falling in love for the first time. When Neve realizes that Alexandria might be tied to the demons her and her sisters fight, she’ll do whatever it takes to protect her. Even if it puts everything she’s ever known at risk.

Thanks to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for an advanced copy of Ravensong by Cayla Fay to review! Always looking for a good new fantasy to read, especially if it’s queer. Fair warning, though, this is the start to a new series, and it ends on a pretty big cliffhanger. Don’t say I didn’t warn you before jumping in!

Though I don’t actually know a ton about Celtic mythology, I was engrossed in this book from the beginning. Neve has such a strong voice, which makes it easy to jump into this book. There’s kind of a lot that needs to be established for this world, but Fay doesn’t make it feel too info-dumpy. It feels natural with the story, which isn’t always easy to do with fantasy books!

The romance at the center of the book is also well-written. Neve and Alexandria have great chemistry, and I love how she gets Neve to actually participate in teenager things. She folds her into a new little friend group, and they are all just great together. I can’t wait to read more about them in the next book.

Absolutely can’t wait to read the sequel!
