I found that this novel had a very sad and ominous start as Lady Vanessa had to face betrayal by her brother, was sold into marriage, abused and denigrated by her husband, and then evicted from her home by her step-son when her obnoxious husband died. It really did seem that she had very little to live for. In her darkest moment she, fortunately, meets Lady Danbury who reaches out to her and takes Vanessa under her wing. Despite everything that has happened to her, Vanessa has a strong sense of purpose, even though her self-worth and confidence have taken a beating. When introduced to Lord Boxling, there is an immediate attraction between them, and Reed quickly comes to the realization that Vanessa needs careful nurturing. The initial spark catches and ignites into desire, giving Vanessa hope for the future. Unfortunately, those who have been her worst persecutors have not finished with her, but knowing she has friends and with Reed's influence, she learns to take control of her life. This romance comes to a delightful and happy conclusion with both Reed and Vanessa finding the answers they need. I received a copy of this book as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy.

This was a nice enough story…it moved quite quickly at the start, but I did find not a lot happened in the middle. While it was a good read, I probably don’t like it enough to read it again or recommend it.

A story of a woman who rose from the ashes of betrayal and abuse from the men in her life, without losing her loving and nurturing nature. A heartwarming tale of how love is patient and healing. It also shows help and support from friends and family add to one’s sense of self worth.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and leaving my review voluntarily.

This story really broke my heart right out the gate. Vanessa suffers so much and there’s a sweetness about the way she doesn’t try to fight it. She’s arranged to marry a gross old man and she doesn’t plot an escape or anything. She just deals with it. It’s very different than your typical heroine and I loved her strength of character and how she tries to make a life for herself, in whatever little ways she can, even while stuck in a miserable situation.
By the time years pass and she’s widowed, I was really ready for her to get her happy ending, which she most definitely does not just with Reed but also by finding a group of friends she likes after a lifetime of loneliness.
I wish the book had had a little more conflict, because once the protagonists meet they are both instantly interested in each other, so I think the story could’ve done with a little more conflict. But at the same time, Vanessa had already gone through so much, I’m glad she found someone who loved her wholly and completely and almost instantaneously.

Valued by the Viscount is book six in the Second sons of London series. I have been so looking forward to reading Lord Boxling's story. In past he has always been in the running but never seemed to find his love match. Now Reed is determined that he is finally ready for a wife and children and makes it known to the Duchess of Camden, widely known as a match maker, that he wants her to find him a match at the upcoming house party.

Vanessa has lived a solitary life in the country. Having to forego her season in London after her parents have died. Vanessa is finally summoned by her brother to come to London. Ecstatic, she packs her gowns in preparation for a season. Waiting for her brother to escort her to her first party, she is disappointed when he arrives late and drunk. Her brother Stilwell informs her there will be no season she is to be married tomorrow to a man she has never met. Shocked and devastated, she knows she has no choice but to be sold to this man to settle her brother's gambling debts. When the groom shows up, she is disgusted to find that he his old and overweight, not to mention he is cruel to her.

Vanessa is verbally and physically abused on her wedding night. She suffers in silence and stays in the country to avoid her husband's presence. Vanessa is finally free when Lord Hockley dies and she is sent to the dower house. A year later the new Lord Hockley tells her she has one week to find a job, pack her things and leave.

Vanessa is angry and heads to the cemetery to vent her anger on her dead husband's grave. But an arm goes around Vaneesa which comforts her while she cries. Lady Danbury comes to her rescue and befriends her. She is invited to stay with her and come to a house party to see if she can find herself a match. With nothing to lose Vanessa agrees and is thankful for her new friend.

Vanessa's luck has surely turned for the better as she is welcomed by the wives of the Second Sons. Vanessa meets Reed before the house party begins. Vanessa and Reed are instantly drawn to one another. But Reed senses that there is much more about Vanessa that she keeps to herself, and he decides to woo her slowly but assuredly.

I am so happy that Reed was next in the series. I always felt that he was a good man and due to find his true love. This is a wonderful story for him as he loves Vanessa and allows her to gain confidence and become the woman she was meant to be.

I love Alexa Aston's historical books. But this was didn't strike a note. I know they both were eager to get married but getting married in a week was a bit much for me. I am not a fan of insta love but am open to it in historicals more than contemporary stories.. But in this one Vanessa had been burnt once before and how quickly she went for it the 2nd time just didn't seem realistic. Also he is looking for somebody who can debate issues but she has been isolated and has no clue what is going on in the larger world.

Reed Davenport ,Viscount Boxling, Reed takes his responsibilities seriously, including providing an heir. He turns to the Duchess of Camden, famed for her matchmaking skills, and puts himself in her hands, hoping he will find not only his viscountess—but love. Vanessa Hughes, Lady Hockley, is a widow whose husband made her feel worthless. With her year of mourning at an end, her stepson demands she leave the family estate. Raging at her dead husband’s grave, Vanessa meets a remarkable countess who invites Vanessa to a house party she is hosting.
This is the sixth book in the series & it could be read by itself but with a series I always feel it’s better to start from the beginning. I'm so glad Reed has had his story & what a wonderful read it was, we met him earlier in the series but in this book he came into his own & he’s one of the nicest heroes you could hope to find. My heart went out to Vanessa who was basically sold to an elderly abuser to pay her brother’s debts, she was made to feel inferior & of no value but she still remained caring & loving. I was captivated from the start & devoured it in a sitting. I loved that characters from earlier books welcomed Reed & Vanessa into their circle. This was a well written often emotional read which I highly recommend
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Flutters in the female region…I didn’t just fall a little in love with Reed/Boxling, I fell head over heels in love with this man. Alexa, you did him justice in this story after so many disappointments in his love life. I was so looking forward to his story and it was so good!!! There is not a lot of angst and the hero is not a alpha in this story which I love but Reed is so delicious and caring and patient that it did not matter. Vanessa has so much pain due to her previous marriage but Reed and this feel good story of healing and loving helps her realize that love is out there and you just need to believe and trust.

FINALLY!!! Lord Boxling gets his HEA. He has been a secondary character in a couple of the other books. I always felt sorry for him because he was such a sweet and honorable man. I will say this book starts out will a soul cringing beginning. But it gets much better and a swoon worthy ending. This is my first series to read from beginning of Alexa Aston. I have enjoyed every minute. Even though I have received a free copy I still have bought them all for my kindle reader. This is such a fun bunch it makes me yearn for a couple more novels including ALL the same characters!!! I recieved a free copy so that I might tell you what I honestly think. Hope you enjoyed my review. Now go enjoy the book

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

Lady Vanessa Hughes, Lady Hockley has suffered in life. On the eve of her first season, her only family, her elder brother, the wastrel Lord Stillwell, sells her to the cruel and wicked Lord Hockley, who marries and abuses her, before hiding her in the country away from any company. Now widowed, and just about to leave her morning, her stepson announces that she needs to vacate the dower property, and never darken his door again. Luckily, she meets Louisa, who brings her home and invites her to stay for the upcoming house party. Finally making friends, Vanessa can't imagine life getting better, but finding her attraction to Reed, Viscount Bowling, she might just be able to have the family she's always dreamed of.

This book was heartbreaking in the first couple of chapters. Vanessa suffered so much, and I felt so sorry for her, particularly when she came across Louisa and the Three Cousins. She was so grateful that someone, but especially Ladies such as they, would want to help her, and actually become friends with her. Soon Vanessa started to come out of her shell, but she was still sheltered, and unsure when it came to her romance with Reed. She was clearly attracted to him, but her marriage had turned her against any thought of love, but she was willing to go through with what happened in the bedroom if it meant she could have children. I'm glad that Reed went slowly with her, and allowed her to become accustomed with her feelings, and be able to truly love him. Reed knew he wanted to find a love match, but even he was shocked by how much in love he was with Vanessa. Having children to fill his home with joy and laughter, just like his niece and nephew did whenever they visited, was a dream, and he couldn't imagine anyone other that Vanessa at his side. Such a great addition to the Second Sons series!

I adore this author! She always gives me a story that is high in value and romance with likable characters!
Spoiler alert!
An innocent orphan young lady is about to embark on her first Season. Her older brother, who has embodied every vice, is supposed to take her to her first ball. Instead, after she is dressed for the ball and waiting for 3 hours before giving up. He shows up, drunk and slovenly looking, and tells her she doesn't have to have a Season because his friend, Lord Hockley, has agreed to marry her for payment of his gambling debts. Even though she begs him to see reason or be compassionate, she is dragged to her fiance the next day and married. Her groom is 30 years older than her, with two grown children. He takes her to his house and does unspeakable things to his naive, virgin bride. Then, the next day dressed to cover to bruises and wounds, he takes her to a ball and forbids her to talk, meet or dance with anyone. She is terrified with no one to help. For six long years. He husband isn't able to perform, so she is lucky to be sent to the country after the first Season. He does her the great favor of ignoring her and then dying. Her stepson, the new Lord Hockley, kicks her out, without any money, and tells her to get a job in London. Dazed she goes.to the cemetary. Because she was forbidden from coming to the funeral, she has to search for his tombstone. She find it and rages and cries and begs the heavens above for help. A person hugs her and gently tells her to let it all out, that she has a friendly shoulder to cry on. The heroine has finally met someone nice. They ntroduce each other and the woman, Lady Danbury, invites her to her home to live. Plus, she will be having a house party and there will be eligible bachelors to marry her. Nice eligible bachelors. The heroine agrees.
The hero has been looking for a young lady to wed. He had met a couple, but they chose other men that they met before him. He was in London for the recent Season, but the ladies were just too young and out of the schoolroom. He wanted a nice, woman, in her twenties, that he could talk with and have children with and had brains. The lady that hosted the house party introduced them and suggested that they help each other find partners at the house party. They both agreed to help each other find spouses, but they were ignoring the sparks already present between them.
Doesn't that sound like a great story? Not the wedding night beating the heroine received, but the other stuff. It was a great story that wrapped me up and took me for a wonderful ride as I read the book. This book is part of a series. But I must say, each book stands alone and tells an individual story about two strangers who meet and have to determine if this is the One. The characters are likable and believable. The setting is a house party in the country. There were no dangling story lines and the ending was satisfying. I give this book 5 stars and recommend reading.

I was looking forward to Boxling's story and truly enjoyed reading it. A love at first sight romance with the couple falling in love quickly although there was no reason not to as she is a widow rather than a debutante and Boxling had been beaten to the post in his attempts to woo other's. There are two villains in the story and the only thing I would have liked was a bit more trouble from these but still a good match for this series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Vanessa, Lady Hockley has had her self confidence totally eroded over the last few years. Now her mourning period is over and her stepson delivers the final blow.

Our heroine is desperate and needs the change in luck that is ahead for her.

Reed , Viscount Boxling has worked hard to get his life ready for the next step. It's time to find a bride, and a friend is having a house party that should help.

Our hero is a very good man with strong family bonds and a generous heart.

This historical romance is part of a series, so you will have met some of the secondary characters before. You could however read it on it's own. The story is full of emotion and strong, loving characters. An uplifting tale that gives you faith that there are good people around.

Good fun.

A Caring Viscount Wanting Love

Vanessa Hughes, Lady Hockley was only a young girl when she was sold off by her brother to an older man who brutalised her then left her alone. She had been a widow and in mourning now for 12 months and her step son in his cruelty had told her that she was to move out of the dowager house and find her own way in the world. At her husband’s graveside ranting about how he had treated her and what her life was like now she meets Lady Danbury who invites her to her house party.

Reed, Viscount Boxling was a lovely caring person. He loved his niece and nephew and both his half sisters and had all the time in the world for them. He had sown all his wild oats and was not looking to find a wife, one hopefully who he would fall in love with and who would love him back. He had approached Lady Danbury and she had invited his to her house party to see if she could pair him up with someone.

Vanessa and Reed were introduced a few days before the party was to begin and he instantly knew Vanessa was the one for him. He could tell something bad had happened in her marriage so he needed to take things slowly. He was a very sensuous man and knew with time he could teach her things in the marriage bed which would give her infinite pleasure.

It was lovely to read a storyline where the man was a lovely caring person who knew the woman he would love for the rest of his life when he met her and how he treated her with tenderness and kindness.

I would definitely recommend this book. I found it to be a page turner, a tender but passionate love, romance, great characters already introduced in previous books in the series, some steamy moments and a HEA.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I've read each of Alexa Aston's Second Son series books, and I'd solidly place this in the middle of my favorites of them. I liked that it was not as formulaic, and how it brought back my favorites (the Cousins and the original Second Sons) into a prominent place in the story. I just wasn't as into the twins in the last couple of books.
Boxling is back! So glad he got his own book. I really liked the hero and heroine, Reed/Boxling and Vanessa. And how he loves children, I loved that! I liked his sisters, I hope we get to see them when they grow up and peek in on Reed and Vanessa later in their marriage!
The dialogue was ok, a little repetitive but I think that is just the tone of this series. You could read as a standalone because of the repetitiveness, but it is a nice progression of the Second Sons series. This was an entertaining read, I was expecting a little more trouble from Vanessa's relations but also don't know if I missed not having it? It was a good afternoon's read where you could just read a nice pleasant tale.
I enjoyed Valued by the Viscount, all the characters names (so many good names, loved it), and was happy to receive this book as an ARC for my honest opinion. Solid addition to the Second Sons series!

Thank you Netgalley and Dragonblade publishing for this arc.❤️

Our heroine, who was sold in a manner of speaking to her first old husband by the vile creature she calls brother during the prologue. By the time we meet her again in chapter one she seems to be a fragile emotionally frail woman. But she's also vibrant, full life and wants a big happy family.
Our Loving hero, who also wants a family, children and looks to be wed. Meets our distraught heroine at a house party and then sparks fly. We watch them slowly but surely fall for each other in the sweetest way possible. And this lovely couple gets their happy ending.
He goes on to woo her, sweep her off her feet. He loves, appreciates, and adores her. Thus, she's always valued by the Viscount.
A very fast-paced, insta-love, and romantic novel

I’ve been looking forward to reading Valued by the Viscount since I learned it was Reed’s story. Reed was a secondary character in several of the other books in the series, and he always felt a little like a lost soul. I wanted to learn more about this reformed rake searching for a wife, and I wasn’t disappointed. Reed is a compelling character with an interesting story, and his romance with Vanessa is wonderful.

Vanessa is a widow who had a much older, abusive husband and a brother who was just as bad. Content to live the rest of her life alone and at peace, Vanessa is devastated when her stepson throws her out almost penniless. But when she is befriended by a lovely countess, Vanessa is welcomed into the fold of a wonderful and supportive group. With their help and an upcoming house party, Vanessa meets Reed. Vanessa changes a lot over the course of the story as she regains her confidence, makes new and strong friendships, and learns to trust again. Her story is heartbreaking, and I really hoped that she would find her well-deserved happiness.

Vanessa and Reed have an instant connection, and I love how quickly and deeply Reed falls for her. If you believe in love at first sight, you’ll definitely enjoy this romance!! The way Reed treated Vanessa actually made me like him even more than I already did. He could tell Vanessa was slower to trust and give into her feelings, yet he remained patient and never made her feel pressured, mistreated, or less than. This is the opposite of how men have treated her in the past, and it’s a big change for the distrustful Vanessa. The way Reed tries to bolster her confidence and self-esteem makes him even more endearing, and I totally get why Vanessa fell so hard for him. They have a great love story, and their chemistry is swoon-worthy!

I love the Second Sons and the Three Cousins! These couples defy the norms of the ton and are quite demonstrative with their feelings for each other. They are more like family, and their fun banter is as remarkable as their unequivocal support of each other. Messages in the story about the importance and benefits of marriage and family are strong. And I love that the protagonists from the other books have big roles in this book. They’re all so fantastic, and I love that we get to see how their lives and relationships have grown and changed. I especially love seeing all of the new additions to the families!

The Second Sons of London is a wonderful historical romance series, and Valued by the Viscount is no exception. It’s a great addition to the series! Thanks to NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for providing me with a copy of the book. all thoughts are my own.

I truly enjoyed reading Reed and Vanessa's story. My heart went out to Vanessa in the beginning of the book. Reed was able to help her find and know her worth. Valued by the Viscount, is a wonderful book.

3.5 stars

I didn't like the start. I'm never very keen on male violence to the heroine. Book 5 had the ex paramour of our heroine raping a maid and I had visions of other bad stuff with this book 6.

The prologue seemed to be being used to show how badly the heroine had been treated by both her husband and her brother. Luckily for me it then moved on to Vanessa meeting one of the second sons wives and being invited to a house party. There seemed to be a big emphasis on children and couples having kids in this book as the raison d'etre for marriage.. Reed seemed a nice enough hero but he very quickly fell in love which I found surprising. Vanessa eventually gets her self confidence back and gets her own back on her brother and with the help of Reed her step -son.

I really enjoyed the earlier books but for me the latter books in this series have just been okish...

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Who doesn't love a reformed rogue! I was thoroughly engaged by this story and the romance between Reed and Vanessa was wonderful. A rogue and a widow find an enduring love. Perfect.
