The Daughter In Law was a bit slow to begin with but oh my goodness it soon picked up, loved the twists and turns and the ending was just amazing.

This was a gripping, suspenseful story, filled with twists and turns that (mostly) were not obvious. The beginning was super slow, but the middle and end made up for it tenfold.

Whilst I didn’t really like any of the characters in this book, it was an easy read. Slightly slow to start but picks up very quickly.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 ⭐ I always love this author's books and this one was no exception. They're always quick , fun, suspenseful and addictive! Can't really go wrong with any book she writes. I took a half ⭐ off only because of a slightly slower pace, but I mean…not that big of a deal….still really enjoyed it.

Caroline and Seb are married quickly after meeting online and finally in person. Sebs family owns a bar and Caroline quits her job to work at the bar. They are also living with his parents. Things are strained from the beginning with Sebs mother Lillian. Caroline notices small things at first, but then starts to notice bigger things that Lillian is doing to drive her away. She also learns that Seb had a previous wife who passed away. Caroline is noticing that there are disturbing things going on. The thing is, not only does this family have secrets, but Caroline has some secrets too.

Very fun! I was quite surprised with how it ended, and I thought the characters were very well done. This was gripping and definitely not to be missed.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own. Out now.

This is an interesting read with a good amount of tension and an unexpected twist towards the end.

Working in a family run pub with their grown up sons seems an idyllic life for Lilian and Brian and even when son Seb has a failed marriage they protect him from within. When he arrives back from Australia with a new wife in tow everyone is suspicious.

New wife Caroline has a tough time and no one except her husband seems to welcome her. We hear from both her and her mother in law Lillian as a dual aspect as tensions mount and the discovery that Caroline is not Seb’s first wife heightens the tension more.

The ending was unexpected and a third voice can be heard in the epilogue.

As ever Shalini Boland has written an interesting and credible story with powerful characters and a great twisty plot.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. When Seb returns from his trip a married man, the family is shocked. Caroline and Seb meet on the internet and are soon married after meeting in person. Caroline leaves her job and home to come live with Seb and his family and work in the family bar. The book is told in parts by Caroline and her new mother-in-law, Lillian.
This was not one of my favorite books by this author as it was really slow moving. It picked up about 70 percent through and there were twists and surprises at this point and it did end with a surprise too.

Really enjoyed this book. I love this author she always has amazing twists you don’t expect. The main character in this one annoyed me a bit though and this wasn’t my favourite by this author.

Holy Moly! What an absolute beauty of a thriller! Since I started this book last night I’ve squeezed in a chapter every chance I’ve had and here I am absolutely wowed at this amazing book! So well written with intriguing family dynamics, characters that are individuals in their own right and all very different with unique personalities. It was just brilliant.

It’s not a secret that I love Shalini Boland’s novels but as always this one has tipped the scale and thrown me into a storyline that was just superb!

I’m actually disappointed it’s ended. I want more! I hope there’s a sequel as I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to some of these characters.

Shalini is one of the few authors whose books I will automatically pre-order, as I always love them! This one was no exception.

The premise begins with Seb and Caroline returning from Australia, having speedily and secretly married, to Seb's parent's home in the UK. Caroline's arrival and news of the couple's sudden nuptials, shocks Lilian and Brian, Seb's parents. And soon Caroline begins to suspect that Lilian is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her beloved son.

I loved the building sense of darkness and unease throughout that kept me flying through this book. The characters were well rounded and brilliantly drawn. I also loved the vivid descriptions of the cosy traditional pub in the snow, I could almost picture it!

As is usual with the author's books, just when you think you might have it figured out, another twist is thrown in, one actually made me gasp and re-read in disbelief!

I didn't guess 'whodunit' either, always a bonus as I read a LOT of psychological thrillers. A definite must read for anyone who enjoys twisty, suspenseful domestic noir!

Thanks to author Shalini Boland, publishers Bookouture and Net Galley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. Another fantastic read from Shalini Boland, it had me gripped from the start, it was a fast paced thriller that I was all caught up in, in the best of ways. Seb and Caroline marry in Australia after a whirlwind courtship. They move back to the UK where Caroline is not welcomed with open arms. She gets an ice-cold reception from Lilian Fletcher, her new MIL. They start living with Seb's parents over their pub. The tensions are palpable from their first meeting and the feelings of mistrust, lies and manipulations keep intensifying with each chapter.
Told through various POV’s, just added to the weaving of the storyline and twists, none of which I anticipated. This author always manages to shock me with a final twist that I never see coming but in hindsight, I can see how there were some cookie crumbs along the way. I love Shalini's writing style, fast paced, twisty dark characters and a twist on the domestic thrillers that leave you dying for her next book. #netgalley #bookouture#tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads #litsy #amazonaustralia #thestorygraph #bookqueen #bookstagram#thriller

Caroline and Seb have arrived at their home in Stalbridge in the UK. They will live and work with his family at the Royal Oak pub. His parents, Lilian and Brian, own the pub and his brother, Felix, is the chef.

Seb met Caroline online and after chatting for some time, he decided to fly to Australia. There they got married and he is bringing her home as a surprise. The surprise turns out to be more of a shock to his parents leaving Caroline feeling very uncomfortable.

As they settle in, Seb continues with his job at the pub taking care of the books and ordering food. As Caroline had been a waitress in Australia, she starts waiting tables. That ended abruptly when some young punk decided to grab her behind earning himself a quickly sprained arm compliments of Caroline. Evidently, this type of behavior is overlooked here but she never put up with something like that in Australia. Now, Lilian has her working in the kitchen.

As family relations continue to be strained, life is difficult for Caroline. But she is determined to try and carry on as best as she can.

This book is more than just difficulties with your new mother-in-law. Oh no. There are some sinister things going on here so keep an eye out for that. The story is good and the characters are well-created. I was surprised at the end of the book. It was not what I was expecting but was quite good. Don’t miss it.

Mother-in-law relationships are good fodder for domestic suspense. For additional fun, the daughter-in-law in question turns up with no announcement, and the control freak mother-in-law's head immediately explodes. It's good fun with a lots of twists, but nothing you wont see coming.

I had no idea of the outcome and was completely surprised by the ending. Highly recommend. This is my first Shalini Boland thriller and I look forward to reading more of her work. The story was fast-paced and full of twists and turns.
Seb and Caroline have a whirlwind romance and quickly become married. It happens so fast that his family is completely left in the dark until the newlyweds show up at the family house in England, suitcases in tow. The immediate connection between the mother and daughter-in-law is ripe with tension and suspicion and this only builds as all 4 characters live in a small apartment above the family-owned pub where they all work. In these close quarters, secrets and lies start to be revealed...
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a complimentary ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
