When Caroline leaves her home in Australia with her new husband Seb Fletcher, she receives a welcoming that is anything but from his family. Caroline and Seb met online and after he visited her the pair got married. His family are shocked at how quick the marriage took place. Now living in a small village in the UK with Seb, and in his family’s home above their pub, Caroline immediately feels hedged in.

Caroline’s new mother-in-law Lillian all but hates Caroline on site. It is not just because Seb married her so quickly. No, there is an undercurrent going on, a secret that Seb and possibly others in the family are hiding.

This intriguing story has not only Caroline’s point of view, but also that of Lillian’s. More than that, this newest book by Shalini Boland has a very brief prologue of sorts that sets the groundwork for what proves to be quite a sinister story. With a small cast - Seb, his family and a couple of coworkers - it is more than clear that at least one of them has something to hide. What is more, the story occasionally segues to the past and this is when certain facets of the secret begins to be untangled.

With tension that hits hard from the very start and never lets up, this psychological thriller is sure to grab any reader’s attention, especially with the twists and the utterly shocking ending. I loved how surprising this book turned out to be, which made this one of Shalini Boland’s best.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Completely gripping; I was enthralled from the very first sentence and couldn't put it down without thinking about what was happening and where it was going next.

If you love ugly family dynamics, juicy secrets, and drama for days this is your next read!

Thank you to the publisher for gifting me a copy. It is my pleasure to write an honest review.

A successful, beautiful woman running a bar in Byron Bay Australia leaves it all behind to be squashed into a back bedroom with her new husband in a remote Dorsey pub in the depths of winter.

It turns out her new husband whose family pub this is has a former relationship with Amy that he has chosen not to mention and she has gone missing.

Who is the daughter in law we should be focused on?

A typically racy read from this author whose plot lines are always fun with plenty of twists, not always obvious. Without wanting to give anything away part of this plot did remind me of a true crime podcast I’ve enjoyed and wonder if she did too

First, I want to thank Shalini Boland, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Ohh I have missed reading Shalini Boland’s books! I forgot how good they were! Needless to say The Daughter-In-Law did not disappoint, rather totally thrilled me!! She threw in wicked curve balls when you least expected it that left me stunned at each ball she threw! This is another must read 5 stars from Shalini.

Oh this is one book you read the prologue and it hooks you right from the start. However, when you are done reading the book you need to re-read the prologue and it makes perfect sense!!

Shalini’s book is full of suspense, juicy family secrets, betrayal, jaw dropping revelations that will just leave you speechless (at least I was).

The Daughter-In-Law focuses a lot around family and what great lengths you will go for your family.

As much as I love my family I don’t think I would want to work and live in the same place as they did. There would be no privacy between them!

Lillian was the Mother-In-Law from Hell! She was so rude and cold to Caroline! All Caroline was trying to do was make a good impression on the family but no Lillian had to make it hard for her. She just rubbed me the wrong way.

I always look forward to a book by this author as I know I am going to get a well plotted, hard to put down page turner, and this one was no different!

When Seb returns home from Australia with a new wife in tow, his family are understandably shocked. While Seb's dad and brother seem to warm to Caroline quite quickly, his mum Lillian is not as quick to defrost and the ladies embark on an awkward relationship from the start.

With a strange family dynamic and Caroline uncovering secrets, this story unravels quite slowly at first, but soon takes off with revelations and shocks, in classic Boland style, right to the last pages!

Sebastian(Seb) Fletcher has been in Australia on holiday and on his return to his parents in the U.K he brings a surprise...Caroline,his new Wife! They've only met in real life a few weeks ago but had met online months before. This is the first Sebs parents- Lillian & Brian are hearing of it.
The Fletchers run a successful pub,and as well as working there they all live above it. Living and working together can be a challenge for anyone but newlyweds and parents(especially a MIL who doesn't like the bride)can cause all sorts of trouble. Mostly told from Caroline and Lillians point of view...with twist after twist..and secrets by the truck load!
A typically great read from Shalini Boland.

The Daughter in Law by Shalini Boland is a twist-filled psychological thriller which keep you guessing. I enjoyed this character-driven, multiple POV novel. I’ve read a couple of the authors thrillers and this one is of her highest standard. The book was easy to immerse yourself in, quick to read and hard to put down. I’d highly recommend this one to fans of Freida McFadden, KL Slater, Jessica Payne or Lucinda Berry. Thank you to Shalini Boland, Bookouture and Netgalley for an advanced e-book.

Shalini is back with another gem. This is one that has been completely unpredictable and addictive from page one. Seb returns to the family home from Australia, with a wife. This sends shock into his family and raises questions about her intentions after such a quick marriage.

As always with Shalini’s books this is one that I have devoured. I have read all of Shalini’s books and can safely say each one gets better and better. This is an author who never fails to deliver.

This is intriguing and gripping from the very beginning. The tension and suspense is maintained throughout this one and this is a book that has been completely gripping.

This is a gem unlike any other book I’ve read. I have found the characters an interesting bunch and been left speechless as events have unfolded. This is another absolute gem from a favourite queen of the genre.

This is an absolute masterpiece and one I highly recommend.

Oh my!!! Another Shalini Boland book that I could not put down!!! The best part of her books is that as soon as you think you have it figured out…BAM…another twist that you didn’t even think of happens.

Shalini Boland is now a go-to author for me and I am so grateful to Netgalley for the chance to read this book!!!

This was a weird book. Weird in a good way. It was surprising and had absolutely unexpected twists. When I least expected that there would be any twists, they… they just were there.
The first half of the book seemed to be kind of a slow burn, but then it picked up the pace and turned to be seriously unputdownable.
For me, this book was about hell being the other people. About not really ever knowing those who are around us, even if we have known them all our lives. The story pulls out the bad, the ugly, and the super ugly of regular people, family members, the loved ones – it shows how even the sweetest person can turn into an ugly monster if given the right circumstances, and they will find an excuse and reasoning behind their actions. Also, at the end of the book, nothing is as it seemed to be in the beginning.
This was one absolutely bone-chillingly good book.

Wow!
What a fast paced family drama with a gripping psychological aspect. If any of that sounds intriguing to you, you really need to read The Daughter-in-law. So many twists and turns……I really had to keep reading to find out where the author was going with the story. And, that ending? Blindsided for sure!

The Daughter in Law
Shalini Boland

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Shalini Boland is one of my favourite authors so I was so excited to be approved an advance reading copy of her latest book 'The Daughter in Law' due out November 4th .

Thanks a mil Netgalley and bookouture publishers for the opportunity to read it in exchange for an honest review.

This one was as always with any books by Ms. Boland, (the queen of psychological thrillers IMO) - super easy to get into and had me gripped from the very first page. Shalini is one of my go to authors - I go blind into any of her books, without reading what its about or anything and just know it'll be my kind of book. This is an absolutely fantastic psychological thriller. Add it to your 'Must Read' list right now if thriller reads are your thing. You wont be disappointed.

I flew through this in a matter of a few hours and the only downfall to that is the wait until she releases her next book. I will be impatiently waiting and will most definately rush out to pre order as soon as I hear a whisper of a new release by this author.

The Daughter in Law was fast paced, with short grippy chapters, full of twists and turns and family secrets...you'll think you have it all figured out and then bam another twist. This one will have your head spinning....in the best way possible.

Loved everything about it!!!!

An easy easy 4 stars for me!!!

I will defo be recommending this one.
Get it on your pre order list straight away guys!!

What a read!!!

What would you do if confronted by your new husband's mother? This is one of the major themes in Shalini Boland's latest thriller, 'The Daughter-In-Law.' Narrated by two of the main protagonists in a third person POV, along with some chapters of flashbacks, this novel is full of intriguing and tense moments, which we get a glimpse of from the very first chapter. We then meet Caroline, who has left her home and job in Australia, to journey to a picturesque small town in England with her new husband, Sebastien.

Upon arrival at the family-owned pub, she meets her new family and does not feel a warm welcome - particularly from her mother-in-law, Lilian. A force to be reckoned with, Lilian is immediately suspicious of Caroline, and their initial meeting is one fraught with tension. Things continue to get worse, and we follow a storyline filled with twists and reveals which have us clutching our invisible pearls in disbelief.

I really enjoyed the thriller aspects of this book; lots of books touting themselves in this category fail to deliver any shock value, but Ms. Boland fully delivered here. The twists and turns were cleverly manipulated, and I must admit to being caught off-guard by a plot narrative here and there. I also liked the use of flashbacks as it helped draw me in, and helped to smoothen transitions from past to future events.

There were a few instances where the pacing of the novel dragged a bit, making it stilted - I would have to push past these moments.

In the end, I give 'The Daughter-in-Law' a rating of 4 stars; the overall plot was fun and intriguing and the twists lent to a great read. While there were some moments that were a little unbelievable, they did not deter me. Quite the opposite - who doesn't love a little madness in their book!

*A great many thanks to Netgalley, Shalini Boland, and Bookouture for this ARC. It is important to note that I was under no commitment to provide a positive review, and all opinions are undoubtedly my own.*

Thank you Netgalley for this great book. I have read other Shalini Boland books and have never been disappointed. And once again this one is a page turner. We follow the Fletcher family here. Mom and dad and two sons. Felix is married with a child; Sebastian was married, divorced and now is married to Caroline. He surprises the family when he returns home with her. This is not only a surprise to his family but there are so many other things that happen that puts this family in turmoil.

I felt I had a love/hate relationship with the family and wasnt sure about Caroline. But half way through the book things start falling into place, secrets now come out and we find out some people will do anything to keep their family together.

This book is being released Nov 4...put it on your TBR list or better yet....purchase it! You wont be disappointed. #fivestars #netgalley

When Sebastian comes home to England he cannot wait to bring his new bride Caroline to the Royal arms the pub his parents own and live above with him. His mom Lillian isn’t the nicest person but at the heart of her attitude is wanting to protect Sebastian from the hurt she recently seen in him.
And although with the appearance of Caroline that all seems to be in the past but there’s just something she don’t trust about her new daughter-in-law. To make it worse it seems Caroline cannot do anything right not in the pub nor at home with Sebastian. One day when Caroline overhears a vendor asking Lillian about Sebastian‘s past, she is instantly interested in the conversation but Lillian puts a quick stop to it and that only intensifies Carolines intrigue into the subject. What is this family hiding? As time goes on you learn there’s lots of liars in this family and those who would murdered to keep their secrets. Are usually love Shalini Bolen books and fine most of the time she dots every I and crosses every T but she fell so short with this one. I don’t want to give any spoilers away but what I will say is I don’t like when you find out the big reveal and they don’t jive with everything you’ve known before hand and as I can see from all the reviews 99% of people forgive that but there’s just too many lapses and continuity for me to think this book was as great as her other ones. This is still worth reading and I will not stop reading this authorss books because the ones in the past have been so super good I received this book from NetGalleyShelf and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

This was a great book! I listened to the entire audiobook today and wanted more after I finished it. This is an author that I actively search for because I have yet to be disappointed by one of books. Highly recommend this book for people who like twisty turny mysteries.

A tangled, twisted, morbid tale indeed!
Caroline married Seb and his family’s welcome is not exactly welcoming. Little things keep occurring that reveal more of the dynamics about Caroline’s new family and area quite unsettling.
I thought the plot twists were good. I connected some of the dots but not all of them before they were revealed.
One character played their trump, card too early, but it was part and parcel for the narrative.
The motto of this story is there is so much more than what meets the eye.
Also, staying down under in Aussie land is a good game plan.

I received an ARC of this book from Bookouture via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. This was a solid thriller and an example of why I enjoy Shalini Boland's writing! The plot is absorbing from the beginning. Chapters are told from varying viewpoints and a little ways in, suddenly there is a chapter from someone we do not know - and the plot thickens! Just due to how Lillian is portrayed, this reminded me a bit of Sally Hepworth's similarly titled The Mother-in-Law.

I think all the characters were well-developed, and it was interesting to read about how a pub functions (I don't think I have ever read about pub owners before). I did not anticipate the twists. I don't think the epilogue was necessary, though. It did not really add anything to the story.

Shalini Boland has penned another great domestic thriller with a killer twist in the middle that turns everything on its side! You think you know what's going on but wow, oh wow is it ever a case of things are never as they appear.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
