This is a really gripping book. I couldn't believe the situation Jennifer finds herself in. The death of her husband and then the woman who turns up is such an interesting story line. I've not read a book like this before, I've read ones about secrets but not where their lives are so entangled in such a mess.

The character Sara is not a nice one but I also feel a bit for her at the beginning, she is in a similar position.

This is was such a good story line, it was a really interesting take on the other woman situation. The ending was brilliant, not what I was expecting although I had an inkling Sara had some issues.

My thanks to NetGalley and BookOuture for a copy of “ The Girlfriend” for an honest review.

I love K L Slater’s style of writing , you get drawn in straight away and it’s hard to stop reading.
She’s one of my “go to “ authors , when people ask me for suggestions.
This wasn’t my favourite of her books , but still head and shoulders above other many psychological thrillers I’ve read.
The book had well written characters and was suspenseful . As I expect from Slater’s previous books .there were brilliant twists to the story .

I struggled to put this down!!! Exciting right until the end. I've read a few of this authors books now and I love her work!
I loved the twists and turns, and the different characters perspectives.
Found the ending a little abrupt but this didn't take away from the book for me! I still thoroughly enjoyed this.

Perhaps not the strongest of Slater’s releases, The Girlfriend was an enjoyable read none the less. The narrative felt a little fractured, and was certainly a slow start, but I enjoyed the eventual pace.

Jennifer may decide that it is not a good idea to answer the door when someone knocks. As she and her husband are preparing for the party of the year, he can’t be found. A short while later, there is a knock on the door, and it is the police notifying her that her husband Cole has been killed in a car accident. That is a lot to take in, but it is nothing compared to what surprise lies in wait when there is another knock on the door. Her husband has a girlfriend/fiancée and a baby. Now what? This is a fast-paced novel full of twists, turns and more surprises as well as well developed characters. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this ARC.

My husband has just died and she knocks on the door says that she is my husband's girlfriend and she owns my home. What the hell did I just read! It totally blew my mind and then some. A gripping and unbelievable physcological thriller that you may have to read twice just to comprehend. Loved it.

First off, this review is very late. I originally received this as an ARC but forgot to post a review.

Second, I loved this book. Thrillers typically aren’t my first choice, but I really do enjoy them, however this one was different than the ones I’ve read before and I loved it!

My absolute favorite criteria in books are multiple (2 or more) POV in books so that already was a plus for me. I feel like those really give a better, well-rounded detailed story.

My typical criteria for a 5 star is a “can’t put it down, can’t stop thinking about it” book, and unfortunately that wasn’t this book for me.

Another great 5-star story from K L Slater!

Jennifer is getting ready for her and her husband Cole’s annual Halloween party when Cole suddenly leaves in a hurry. Jennifer isn’t concerned as Cole’s work in property often means he needs to leave suddenly to sort out business problems however this all changes when a few hours later two policemen show up to her door and give her some very bad news, Cole has been in a road accident and died. Jennifer is just getting to grips with this news and wondering how to break it to her children, Miller, and Sylvie when suddenly a lady with a baby strapped to her knocks at her door with some shocking news. Sara has been in a relationship with Cole for a year and a half now and baby Rory is Cole’s son. Jennifer doesn’t think things can get much worse but then Sara drops the bombshell that, due to a loan that she gave to Cole, Sara owns the house that Jennifer and her children live in. Jennifer is devastated however, Sara offers her a lifeline, Sara has no family of her own and her dream is for Rory to grow up surrounded by his, so she suggests an unconventional arrangement; Jennifer and the children can continue to live in the family home, but Sara and Rory will move in too. This way Jennifer and the children keep their home and Sara and Rory get to have the family that Sara wants for Rory. With no other option Jennifer agrees, however when the police tell her some shocking news regarding Cole’s death Jennifer starts to wonder whether Sara is all she seems and can Jennifer really trust her?

Wow I really enjoyed this one! I really liked hearing the story from different characters and I thought the writing was very clever. I had never heard about “nesting” before, but it was an interesting element to be educated in. I really liked Jennifer, really detested Cole and felt that Sara had a little hint of “The Hand That Rocks The Cradle” about her. Although I thought lots about who was the ultimate baddie in the story, I didn’t guess who it was, and the twist came as a total surprise which always makes me happy.

I find I can never go wrong with a K L Slater book; they always pull me in and intrigue me and this one was no exception. If you are a psychological thriller fan you won’t be disappointed with this book, I highly recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley, K L Slater and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out now.
