When Jennifers husband is tragically killed in a car crash her world falls apart. When, a few days later, a young woman with a baby turns up on her doorstep little does she know this is only the beginning of her nightmare.

The woman says she is her Husbands girlfriend and the baby is his son.

With everyone keeping secrets and telling lies this thriller will keep you guessing right to the end.

A great page turner that I read in two sittings as I didn't want to put it down.

Jennifer and Cole Fincham have a lovely life, their own business, plenty of money, big house, two children, life is good for them. Or is it? Cole is under a lot of pressure, Jennifer seems oblivious, their son Miller is very troubled. After a tragic event, an attractive young woman turns up, and there are shocks all round.

I enjoyed this book. To appreciate the plot you really do need to suspend all belief of the norm and just go with the flow. The scenario of the house share really beggars belief, and the involvement of Ellen a little odd, but as light entertainment it’s got it all.

A perfect holiday read when you don’t have to think too deeply.

3.5* rounded up.

Thank you NetGalley.

I’m not sure this author can do wrong. This book starts quick and keeps you hooked and invested in the outcome. It’s quick paced with an intriguing storyline. Definitely makes you wonder what you would do in that situation. Well done, easy 4.5 stars and will definitely read everything by Slater.

Having read most of hers, K L Slater’s books are a bit of a comfort read for me - you do kind of know what you’re getting, but that’s not a bad thing - and each book seems to get better and better! I really enjoyed this one, probably one of my favourites so far (I also really like “The Apartment”). There were definitely some twists I really didn’t see coming, and I felt the two main characters of the wife and the girlfriend were very believable. I also really enjoyed the chapters from the police perspective. Thank you K L Slater for this one!

K.L. Slater does it again. As usual, I didn't guess the plot twists and turns at the end. I will say, I felt like this one had a big of a slower start than her typical novels. It took me a little bit to get engaged, and wrap my head around what exactly was going on with all of the players. Once I got that bit down, I was in for the ride! There were some great twists at the end that I totally didn't expect. This was a good read, and it was fast!

When Jennifer found out her husband Cole died in a car wreck she was devastated. Not only did she lose her husband but her children Sylvie and Miller lost their dad. Her life couldn’t get any worse or at least that is what she thought until the day a woman named Sarah toting a little baby name Rory showed up at her door. Sara proceeded to tell Jennifer she was Kohl’s girlfriend a little Rory was his baby in oh yes she also owned the business and the Home Jennifer and her kids live in. OK, now things can’t get any worse… But they do. She then tells Jennifer instead of immediately evicting them that they should live together like “nesting.“ Jennifer immediately doesn’t like Sarah nor does she want to live in a home with her but to buy some time Jennifer agrees. And what follows is one of the most crazy books I have ever read. I know a lot of people love KL Slater‘s books but I find sometimes she leaves loose ends and although she didn’t in this one it’s a really good thriller that was something I just found lacking about it. I do think Jennifer and her mom and the police detectives were complete characters but I found Sarah‘s to be missing something. Like I know she was mentally unstable but I don’t think it was all the way established in the book and definitely not enough for Jennifer sister to justify what she did and speaking of Ellen I think she just came in out of the blue and Bam there she was. I know that won’t make sense to those who haven’t read the story it is worth reading but if you read it you know what I mean. Let me just say I couldn’t wait to read this book and I was only slightly disappointed for the most part I’m really glad I read it and it was time well spent. I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

I liked her so much and was rooting for her the whole time!! GRAB YOUR COPY AND READ IT RIGHT NOW!! Thank you Netgalley for a digital copy in exchange for an honest review!

Synopsis:

My husband’s dead. She’s at my door. She owns my home…

When the doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death, I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with buttery blonde highlights and a diamond bracelet identical to my own.

My world implodes when she tells me that she is my husband’s girlfriend, that the baby in her arms is his son, and that she owns our cherished family home.

But she doesn’t want to throw me and my children out on the street. She says she’s no monster, that she wants her baby to grow up with brothers and sisters. With no family, no money and no home, I have no choice but to accept her offer.

Now her food is in my fridge and her beautiful clothes are in the wardrobe in our master bedroom, yet as she helps me with chores and plays games with my little daughter, there’s a part of me that’s glad I’m not on my own. And as we sip wine at the kitchen table, I wonder if we could even become friends…

But when I find a phone hidden in her underwear drawer, I discover her terrible secret. Could she have had a hand in my husband’s death? And what exactly does she want from me?

Did I really just read that??? This book is loaded with twists and turns! Cole and Jennifer are a successful appearing couple with two kids, teen-aged Miller and 5-year-old Sylvie. Cole dies in a car accident and the next day a gorgeous woman, Sara, appears at the door with a baby and informs Jennifer that she is Cole's girlfriend and baby Rory is his. Sara informs Jennifer that she owns the home and suggests that they all live together. what could possibly go wrong???? This book does not disappoint!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book that keep me on the edge of my seat from the very first pages.

Oh man, this book unfortunately was not for me. I think it should have been a DNF, but I felt obligated to see it through in case the ending turned things around for me. But it didn't.

I would classify this as a guilty pleasure domestic thriller for me, like a soap opera where the plot isn't based anywhere in reality. I could have been on board with this if the writing was better... Unfortunately all the dialogue felt completely unbelievable to me, and there were so many instances where the author over-explained everything. I think there was a whole chapter where characters just recapped everything that happened to the police officers with no new information! There was so much repitition that I felt I skimmed through a lot of the book, but it still took me way too long to get through this one. I don't enjoy the handholding to constantly explain the plot to me - let your readers figure it out without having to explicitly spell everything out!

Also, a plot that centers around two women at each other's throats over a man who was a cheater... it's a no from me. Give me a story where those two women team up together to build a better life, and I'd be more on board (I know that would be just as unbelievable in this particular story, but everything was unbelievable anyway). I don't always hate a far-fetched plot, because sometimes that's half the fun. But this was just too ridiculous for me to get behind.

This was my first book by K.L. Slater, but if they are all like this I don't feel compelled to pick up another. I'm sad it's just not my cup of tea, but that's okay!

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I don’t even know where to start! This book had me hooked from the first page until the end! I’m usually pretty good at figuring out some twists in psychological thrillers, but this one absolutely blew my mind! I didn’t predict a single thing correctly, so this one was a huge win for me!

Jennifer’s world comes crashing down when police come to the door to notify her of her husband Coles death. As she’s trying to come to terms with it, a woman shows up on her doorstep with a baby claiming that she was coles girlfriend, baby Rory was his son, and that she is the true owner of the house. Jennifer has to decide between being evicted or letting Sara and her son move in, and the story takes off on some unconventional paths. So many twists and turns, and this was a truly gripping story! I can’t wait to check out more books by K.L. Slater!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC of The Girlfriend in exchange for my honest feedback!

A very interesting and intriguing read! When Jennifer feels like she has no choice but to let her late husbands lover move into their family home OR face losing everything then things really seem to heat up. You wonder how poor Sara could ever get herself out of this situation.
It is a very well written story that keeps you guessing until the very end. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes a twisty and mysterious drama. I will certainly look out for the authors other books.

I have lost so much sleep these past few days as I just couldn't leave this book alone! I read late into the night and reached for it on waking. An absolute thriller of a novel! I love K. L. Slater's books and I always wonder how she can continue to keep topping her last one but, again, she did it! This is an unusual story; a widowed wife being told by her husband's girlfriend that SHE owns the house now having had it transferred to her upon her lover's death and that the wife and family have to move out - or the girlfriend can move in with them! Cue a total nightmare situation with shocks, surprises, twists and a breath-taking ride to find out what happens and who did what to whom. A riveting book, a satisfying conclusion and another massive hit for K. L. Slater. I don't need to read the blurb of any book by this author as every single one has proved fabulous so her next one - whenever and whatever it's about - will be on my reading list. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC which it has been my pleasure to read and review.

This is the quality of book you would expect from such a respected author. Real sense of tension all through and some shocks in the final chapters. Clever, very clever.

Loved this book, there were twists and turns from beginning to end.
Jennifer is married to Cole until one day two police arrive to tell her he has been killed in a traffic accident but that is just the start, how much more can there be? An awful lot.
Great author, would recommend

A sinister story that got better as it went along.
Wasn't too fast paced just Linda rolled through the motions slowly so you could take everything in. Perfect and easy read.

Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.

Wow! I normally am not a fan of more than 2 POVs AND multiple timelines, but this one flowed very nicely! The chapters were short enough that I would stay up at night saying "just one more!". The secret girlfriend/life trope is seen throughout this genre, but this had a unique perspective on it. The horrifying thought that your husband's secret girlfriend also has financial ties to you- really got me! I love that you could empathize with even the "villains" of the story. I also love when characters are unreliable. This book was a true web of lies and kept me guessing 'til the very end. It gave me anxiety the stress that Jennifer was going through as I read this book. I love when novels can invoke real emotions from me as I'm reading - as if it is really happening to me. I have read one other novel from KL Slater and enjoyed it, but this one far topped it. I look forward to exploring more of her work. I also love she is a British Author! Learning phrases like " one of my pet hates" or " horses for courses" was so fun. Adds a whole new element to reading.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for a copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest review.

I am not usually bothered by books that are really unrealistic - that’s what makes reading fun, getting swept up in a story. However this one really pushed the line into just being silly. The whole story line with Sara wanting to move in was just ridiculous and other than just knowing someone killed Cole I didn’t really find there to be any suspense in this book. I wasn’t hooked, it wasn’t tense or fast reading, it took me days longer to read this book than the average time I spend on a book but I finished it for the sake of fulfilling my role in writing a review on NetGalley. When I hit 83% finished and saw I was at the epilogue I was relieved. This was my first book by this author and I don’t know if I will pick up another. I do want to say her writing style is good, her plot didn’t really have any holes it was just o ridiculous to me and not suspenseful at all. There wasn’t enough conflict and there was not a single character I connected with or was drawn to as I didn’t find them very well developed.
