I picked this one up and put it down a few times while in a reading slump and while it helped pull me out of it a little, I didn't feel completely satisfied. The story in itself was good and original in some ways. How horrible to think it would be if your husband died and the next day a woman appears at your door saying the she was his girlfriend and the baby she has with her is his. And by the way, your house, cars and money all actually belong to me? I couldn't imagine a worse scenario. The drama doesn't stop there and surprises keep popping up throughout. I thought the ending was a bit rushed and everything was just revealed all at once, way too fast. Overall this was enjoyable and kind of sad all around. Three Stars.

Good book! This book was a nail biter! It had suspense, intrigue, murder, and so many crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and had me glued to my Kindle! I highly recommend reading this book! It was definitely worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

K L Slater can always be depended upon for solid thrillers with plot twists that whilst you were expecting them, still surprise you. A very dependable read

Loved!!!!! Devoured in just a few sittings. It was just that good. In fact, it was her best book to date so far. It had so many twists and turns. I was hardly able to keep up. This author is one of my favorites and this book proved why. It kept me guessing the whole way through. I never knew what was going to happen next and I had to race through each chapter like it was the last just so I could find out the truth. Every character had a secret they wanted to keep hidden and they all were just the right amount of evil. Now let’s talk about that plot. I loved it. It wasn’t just the same old hubby cheats and gets his girlfriend pregnant story. No, it had a jaw dropping twist to it and I kept trying to figure out what in the world was the mistress up to. I knew she definitely had something up her sleeve. KL Slater you did it again. You produced such a great book that I enjoyed so much that I couldn’t get enough of. Thank you for writing such awesome books.

In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

The protagonist learns that her husband, who dies suddenly, has left a girlfriend with his baby. Oh my…the lies…the mystery…the intrigue…this talented author has woven a story that cannot be put down. Do not start it at night…you won’t want to go to sleep until you have finished. I really liked this book…unique situations…the wife and family invite the girl and the baby to move in…not because she wants them but because supposedly
the girlfriend owns the house…a web of deceit…the wife and her children are devastated and confused…all because the dad/husband was so dishonest. I look forward to more books by this gifted author. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. I could not put it down. Thanks to the publisher for the book.

The Girlfriend by K.L. Slater reminded me of all the reasons that this author is a must read for me.

Jennifer is reeling from the news that her husband Cole has been killed as the result of a traffic accident. Trying to keep her family, son Miller and daughter Sylvie, intact as they face their new reality, the last thing she expects is a woman turning up at the door introducing herself as Cole's girlfriend and the mother of his infant son. This revelation alone is beyond comprehension, but when the calm and collected Sara tells Jennifer that she also owns the family's home, their lives will be irreversibly changed as long held secrets begin to see the light of day.

This was a compelling read from beginning to end. The tension between Jennifer and Sara is almost palpable as we race to determine the motivations behind some truly baffling behaviours. I was thrilled to read a new title from this author and anxiously await the next. 4.5 stars

A gripping and unsettling thriller with an ending that literally had me gasping. Perfect for fans of Gone Girl, The Woman in the Window and Karin Slaughter. Damn good fun.

One thriller of a read! When you think you have it all and then……………..
Jennifer is married to Cole and they have two children. She has been aware in the past that he had affairs and that his business was in a sticky patch, but thinks this is all now behind them. As the halloween party is about to start, two police officers visit with some tragic news for Jennifer. A few days later there is another visit- from a woman with a baby who says she owns the house, the cars and everything in the bank accounts and that the baby is Cole's son. There is more to Sara than meets the eye and Jennifer has her own secret. What on earth is going on?
OMG- one of those reads you can't put down as every page puts you deeper into the mystery, just as I love them. One heck of a situation to find oneself in and may even make some think about what they blindly sign. Where someone feels totally at someone else’s behest through no fault of their own making. I liked Jennifer despite her naivety, as above, I feel many may do this in her position, trusting her husband. There's a real skill of writing in this- to build the tension, and then keep it there, is truly brilliant. A wonderfully thrilling read that kept me turning the pages until the very end.

The Girlfriend by K. L. Slater *Book Review* (5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

K. L. Slater hits the mark with The Girlfriend. With jaw-dropping plot twists, the novel is a remarkable read.

Synopsis:
Jennifer Fincham is grieving the sudden loss of her husband Cole. A striking young woman arrives at Jennifer's front door with a baby. The mysterious woman claims to be Cole's girlfriend and says the baby belongs to him. Additionally, she tells Jennifer that Cole had borrowed money from her and that she owns the family home.

My Thoughts:
The plot of The Girlfriend sounds crazy, but it works brilliantly. As I read the book my mind was constantly trying to figure out the next twist. Imagine being recently widowed, discovering your partner was cheating and there is a child involved you didn't know about. Also, the other woman is taking over your house. What?😲

I am still processing the possibility that something like this could happen in real life, even though this book is fiction. That's a bitter pill to swallow AND that's just the beginning of the book!

“There’s a solution for every problem. You just have to be creative enough to find it.”

They say revenge is a dish best served cold, but Slater doesn’t even let it cool down. She serves it piping hot.

I loved the opportunity to put myself in Jennifer Fincham’s shoes! O.k., I was freaked out at the mind-blowing predicament she found herself in, but I really wanted to know how she was going to get herself out. Isn’t that why we enjoy psychological thrillers? I love to read/experience OTT situations from the safety of my home and see how characters deal with them. Slater played on the conflict of emotions in this one and readers are along for the ride. After the shock of Cole's death and watching the Fincham family grieve, I was exasperated and furious with Cole and the position he put his wife in. I felt the hairs go up on my arms at the thought of what Jennifer faced losing and how manipulated she must have felt. One of my greatest fears is losing control and with Slater ramping up the tension with loss of control, I was on the edge of my seat and constantly checking my pulse on my Fitbit! What would you do if you found out that your significant other was living a separate life and you were completely unaware of it?! What if his deceit cost you EVERYTHING?

As much as I hated what Sara was doing to the family, I really loved her character. She was so wickedly manipulative, and I found myself grinning like a Cheshire cat when she spoke. Is that bad? Likewise, I thought Sylvie was a great character! I could almost feel her mom’s spirit deflate each time Sylvie gave Sara unmerited attention. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t approve of it. I just loved how innocently and accurately Slater portrayed a child. Ok, ok. I loved all the characters. They were so fantastically crafted.

I don’t normally enjoy a plot that is hacked to pieces and presented at different time intervals, but this is the second one I’ve read this week that was expertly done and was ESSENTIAL to the success of the book.

Reading a Slater book is like popping a Thornton’s or Hotel Chocolate delicacy in your mouth to enjoy with a glass of wine. Sure, a Reece’s peanut butter cup will do, but, why, when you can have superior chocolate? If you haven’t read a Slater thriller yet, why not? It’s a class above.
