Someone to Kiss is more than your typical romance. It's about finding yourself when you're on the verge of losing yourself. It's about loving yourself before you can love someone else. Even if that someone has loved you for as long as they can remember.

This story was fast paced and the characters were extremely endearing. One thing I wished we had more of though was Ben and Kate! I felt like Jamie Anderson gave Kate sooo many awful dudes and we learned so much about them all, but the Ben/Kate-ness happened behind the scenes.

Which, for a more mature romance is fine. And particularly for these two characters. They were more bashful, so I was not expecting any type of explicitly steamy scenes from them. But I felt like Kate's realization about "Ben being there," was just very sudden. Whereas from the few times we see Ben's POV, piney feelings are very strong. Not that Kate would've been pining for him, but I wanted to feel a little bit more tension from her regarding Ben.

I appreciated the multiple POVS though it was odd that Kate was first person and Ben and Julie were third POV. That's a personal preference though.

The things I disliked were super minor though. I loved the older MC. I loved that this is a critique of double standards that men and women encounter with online dating and/or dating practices in general. I loved how witty this book was and how relatable some aspects of it were (toxic work environment/hate your job, but you stay anyway, was just one that came readily to mind). I really think this is a great romcom, and if you want something feel good, this is one to definitely pick up!

Someone to Kiss is a "hilarious and heartening take on the pitfalls of modern dating."

Someone to Kiss has imperfect main characters that are quite relatable! We can see their flaws and want to root for them to get it together. This book is perfect for anyone looking for:
🌸 dating in your 40s
🌸 POV on anxiety, alcoholism, and anxious attachment
🌸 a look into others' self-sabotaging and self-criticism
🌸 set in Saskatchewan (like what???)
🌸 character development

I did find the book a bit disjointed due to the inconsistent, multiple POVs, which I wish the author just wrote about through Kate. However, I was quite surprised at how deep this rom-com is and how it talks about mental health issues and alcoholism. Overall, an easy read for those wanting to read about flawed characters who own up to their mistakes!!

Thank you BookGoSocial and NetGalley for the ARC!

Thank you NetGalley!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I wanted to love this book but I couldn't finish it. I got 40% through and had to stop. When I started I thought it was gonna be a quick, easy, fast paced read. But I just couldn't get into it. While the story line was interesting there was something missing for me. I am no someone that tends to DNF books, but this one just wasn't agreeing with me. I also hate to be the person that gives a book a bad review but I have to be honest.

Maybe I'm just not in the right frame of mind to read this right know. I don't really know. Maybe I'll give it another try another time, and if I change my opinion I will change my review.

Someone to kiss

A lovely sweet story.
This novel focuses on Kate, a single woman in her forties. On NYE, she pledges to find ‘someone to kiss’ by next NYE.

“You’re one of those sad women who would do anything for a guy. A woman who doesn’t have any opinions of her own. You want men to like you so much that you turn yourself into an extension of them”

This quote sums up the main character.
We go through her current goal of finding someone to kiss with some flashbacks of failed relationships where she usually got so needy. Cuts off everyone and is not surprising when they break up with her one way or another.

Her best friend Julie points out how threatened Kate is by her because Kate is so full of negativity towards her best friend as Julie has what she wants in life. All because Julie is actually nice to everyone (instead of pretending to be a good person), Kate misinterpret this due to her low self-esteem issues and thinks she’s flirting with one of the few guys she kind of likes although Kate made zero effort to show she is into whichever guy it is.
Another thing that annoyed me about Kate and her low self-esteem and jealousy is that when it comes to Julie’s brother Ben. How can she not see that she’s into him? She gets jealous once again that he doesn’t message her as much anymore and so forth. Perhaps take the hint and see he was into you. And the feelings you have obviously mean you have feelings of some sort for him too.

I wish the novel got to the point like others however at the same time I did enjoy exploring the online dating scene from all of the different points of views we got to meet along the way and it was hilarious the different types of weirdos out there ones you wouldn’t have put together or ones you were expecting.

From speed dating, real life, blind, to online dating it was a great mixture.
It was very enjoyable to read about. The characters were very developed I must say and it was written in a way that kept me reading which are the main things for me to read.

I really enjoyed reading about not only the dating aspect but the friendship aspect. Just because one person has more success naturally does not mean you have to have so much hatred inside you towards that person due to your own feelings about yourself. Be happy for the person and their success instead of being so immaturely jealous of them! Anyone can see how jealous Kate is and how unreasonable she is. Just makes her out to look pathetic that she cannot be her own person picking on Julie who everyone can see did nothing wrong at all as it is all of Kate’s actions. How does Kate not see her actions are showing everyone she’s being childish? You wouldn’t think these characters are in their mid-forties based on how they act and everything which again, was another aspect I loved in this read.

This novel covers many aspects from a few points of view overall I really did enjoy this.
Thanks to the publishers for sending me this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Wow! I did not expect the heaviness I felt when reading this book. I went into it thinking it was going to be a fun rom-com, only to come out on the other. This book takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions.

I rated this book the way I did because I found it hard to connect with the main female character. She is well into her 40s, which I appreciated as a different perspective from other books, but couldn’t see her maturity reflected. She has never married or had kids, which is something I support in strong women who don’t rely on a society that imposes a checklist mindset on how to go through life.

However, with Kate, I couldn’t connect with her reckless decisions and lack of maturity in many situations. This is not a sweep-me-up romance. It explores the concept of online dating and many failed attempts at finding Mr. Right.

I do appreciate the light the author tries to bring into this book on discussing heavy topics such as mental illnesses and how that impacts the lives of everyone it surrounds, especially in male situations which are often overseen. Ben was the grounding factor in this book and truly appreciated his dedication to taking care of his sister and Kate when they put themselves in reckless situations. There are also mentions of alcoholism and sexual assault so trigger warnings to readers.

Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Charming and sickeningly precious

Kate is a 40-year old who swore off dating a decade ago and drunkenly decides on new years eve that by the next year new years she’ll have someone to kiss.

Throughout the story we go through Kate’s year as she tries online dating and a surprising blind date while reflecting on her past relationships as Kate - who is very obviously a people pleaser - tries to understand where she went wrong.

I really fancied Kate and her narrative as she was able to realise what she truly wants in love and life and there was major character development in this story from both Kate and Julie, but unfortunately not from Kate’s boss who is actually worse than Michael Scott from season one of The Office - and no, he doesn’t move to season two.

It was inspiring to see Kate move from the indecisive character to a determined girlboss and I really adored Someone To Kiss.

As a single woman in her thirties I cannot explain how much this novel resonated with me, it felt real and hopeful. I loved the romance, the humour and often the embarrassing moments that makes you want to read through covered eyes. This was just what I needed to read, the one is out there... often where you least expect it!

I was really looking forward to this one, mainly because of the character's age. Online Dating in your 40s ? Yes please.

However, the only thing that made me really see their age was the occasional "in your 20s", "20 years ago", etc stuff. Anything else was pretty much as it would have been if the characters were not in their 40s.

I was actually enjoying the book up until about the 50% mark. Kate was..something. I thought she started to get annoying and I think it was mainly because I couldn't see a 40+ year old woman in her behaviour.
There was a point when Kate was mainly judging all the messages she received from men, which sure, fair enough, but I kept thinking "why didn't Kate took the initiative and wrecking her brain for a good opening ? Why does she wait everyday for a man to write her ?". Isn't online dating all about how to start the conversation and then get to the dating part ? Well, apparently she did indeed wrote some men, which was later mentioned in a sentence. Ok. I guess.

Terry was an annoying piece of a human being but he was suppose to be like that and that's fine. The whole situation of Kate having to set up a work out plan for Terry...sorry what ? I just couldn't wrap my head around her just nodding and off and didn't even properly say "no" to that. Why didn't she stand her ground ? This is a reaction I would expect from a 20-something intern, not from a grown woman.
I will say that this probably threw me more off than it should have, but I just don't get it.

Also, staying with Terry, big yes to Kate actually standing her ground during that last staff meeting. And what an absolute mess that no one in that company supported her ? Like wtf. Anyway..

It got a bit fast towards the end though. You can see the moments when Kate actively started to think more and more about Ben, but the moment between this and the realisation "it has always been Ben" was not very obvious I guess. It happened very out of nowhere.

Generally, I liked the short chapters, but this is more personal preference than anything else. The writing itself was also super easy to follow.
I really enjoyed the chapters from Julie's and Ben's pov!
It was also very predictable on who Kate will end up with, which was fine by any means.

Over all my main take from this book is that dating sucks no matter your age. It was a fine read for in between.

A great read. Kate is determined that next new years eve she will have someone to kiss. But has that person been there al along waiting for their chance?

The plot seemed interesting so I was impatient to read it. It started well, although the parts with the cat were very annoying and didn't bring anything. I felt it was added just to contribute to the stereotype of a single woman of 40 +. As the story went on, I lost interest in the story itself because it took too long for the romance to start (it was predictable very early in the book), and the main character started to annoy me as much as her cat.
However, I appreciated that the author talked about mental illness and other issues. It was well written too, so all in all, I enjoyed this book.

Kate is a 43 year old woman entering the world of online dating for the first time.

So the short of it is, I loved this book! 🇨🇦 Canadian, yay! It was light hearted enough to be enjoyable and a quick read, and yet there were some serious topics that were handled really well but not in a preachy way. Mental health, alcohol abuse, questionable decisions and the fallout from them are some of the topics touched upon, but the best part of all was that the main characters were in their forties! The whole novel felt relevant and current but handled everything with a realistic yet light touch so it still made an impact.

Thank you to Netgalley and Jaime Anderson for the opportunity to read this early. Would definitely recommend!

As the clock strikes midnight over a disastrous New Year’s Eve and happy couples celebrate all around her, Kate makes a resolution, hastily scrawled on the back of a napkin, that next New Year’s Eve she will have found someone of her own to kiss.
But when you’re a forty-something cat-mom who’d rather binge Netflix than brave the singles scene, finding someone to kiss turns out to be harder than it sounds. Kate is totally unprepared for navigating hook-up apps, speed-dating, and sliding into somebody’s DMs.
With the end of the year rapidly approaching, Kate seems further than ever from reaching her goal. As relationships crumble around her and dark long-kept secrets spill out, could Kate's fixation on her quest cause her to let true love slip through her fingers forever?
The secret Ben keeps is that he has been in love with Kate forever. Kate is in love with Ben too.
When they can no longer keep their secret from one another what will happen?
I received this book from the publisher and NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Kate is 43 and happily single but on New Years Eve surrounded by happy couples and after a few too many shots she decides this Is her year to find "someone to kiss" for next New Years Eve. Though the premise of the book is to find someone to kiss there isn't much romance. Kates best friend Julie has a few chapters and to me they didn't add anything to the storyline. Though I would have loved to get more chapters from Julies brother Ben who rounds out their little trio. Its pretty easy to pin down who Kate ends up with and I really wish I didn't take until 96% into the book for her to have her 〰 Aha moment. 〰
This book was pretty funny if you've ever tried online dating you can definitely relate to some of the horrors Kate deals with. But like I said I would have loved for Kate to realize her feelings at like the 50% mark and gotten more of the romance stuff than the same ol bad date after bad date for the whole book. Kate did grow a lot throughout the book and learned how to say no and stick up for herself and overall just became more comfortable in her own skin.
I think this book had a lot of potential but it was just not my cup of tea.

Characters had quirks and awkward interactions, and they felt really real. It
had me laughing at times as well. It was a sweet book. I'll definitely be recommending this unique book!

Someone to Kiss was a book I stumbled across and really liked the premise.

Kate is a single 40 something looking for love and I couldn’t help but feel a kinship to her. The authors characters felt incredibly real with flaws and awkward encounters. She also touched on mental health very sensitively in the book as well. I appreciated the love story with realism, it felt very relatable.

There is a lot of point of view changes and flashbacks which I didn’t love but ultimately it didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment.

Thanks to NetGalley for the copy in exchange for my review.

Haha well where do I start. I think that it’s so relatable for me age wise, cats, Netflix etc it’s why I just had to choose it.
Did not disappoint, it was a cute read. Had me chuckling in places too.
Also well done on the mental illness side. Handled so well.
Really enjoyable

I am writing this review for Net Galley. I really enjoyed this romance story.

We are following two women who have been best friends since elementary school. Julie is confident, which Kate is not. This is just one example of how opposite these two women are. However, they are always there for each other through thick and thin. Kate is 43 years old and has not had a relationship in years. It never bothered her until she went to this wedding where she got very drunk and made a fool of herself. She decided to make a goal that she was going to find someone to kiss by the end of the year for New Years.

Kate's friend Julie helps her set up an online dating profile. She finds herself very busy going on lousy dates. During this time, we learn from Kate's past why she is content not being in a relationship. On top of her online dating, she is going to a job that she just hates every day. However, she has two good guy friends at her job that support her. Kate also tried speed dating.

This story was so cute. It reminds me of the movie Never Been Kissed. I loved main character Kate and how the author decided to portray her as 43 years old. I really appreciated that the author added some of Kate's past to the story to better understand why she was where she was in life. Overall if you are looking for a fun easy read then I highly recommend this.
