This is the last installment in the Gia Acquaviva series.

While I enjoyed the series overall, this final book felt a little off for me. Things didn’t feel totally explained and I’m not sure I got the closure I was looking for.

I did not know this book was number 6 when I picked it up. I was not a fan of the first one and would not have read this had I not requested it from NetGalley. I think NetGalley for this eARC copy.

First, the writing it terrible. The first book was okay. This book felt like a bad parody of a fantasy novel. Why is it so hard to find good mermaid books?

The sentences felt so awkward and poorly worded. It was stiff and I hate to say it but cringe.

Gia is a bit of a Mary Sue. Of course her child is super special, and strong, and magical. And there’s a really horrible part that I can’t say because it will give away spoilers, but I’m going try to block out the memory of it.

Nobody stood out. The magic was weird. The mermaids are annoying and mean, and the way they fight is a bit like a cartoon villain going mwahahahah. The casualties are through the roof. Move over Superman there’s a new city destroyer in town.

On the plus said it’s a fast read. ,ya e if you’re a fan of the series you’ll enjoy it. I couldn’t ever feel connected or like anyone since the first book. I struggled with the first one and did not find it enjoyable. There’s no character development, no growth, no real personality beyond the surface.

The final of the Mermaid of Venice series is here! I was hooked from the very beginning with Mermaid in Venice, and remained excited for the books through maybe the fourth book. After that, it started to get a little chaotic, in my opinion. While I certainly appreciated the moral of the story and the parallels with our fight on climate change and politics, the last two or three books seemed, to me at least, like a barely concealed commentary or parody of current affairs. Again, not opposed to it in concept, but this was a little heavy handed and I felt like it detracted from the plot a little. But we got most of our resolution as far as the storylines are concerned, and even Gia got a happily ever after!

I was given this arc in exchange for an honest review. The concept of this book is very interesting and entertaining, however the plot could have been way better developed. The visuals of the cover and the aesthetic of the story is also appealing and is what could attract readers to it. The only aspect that could improve is the writing and the development of the plot.
