Such a well crafted novel, compelling enough to pull you through and very quick read. I enjoyed it so much from the first page till the end. A good story like this needs a quiet afternoon, a sofa and a warm blanket.

Many thanx to the author, NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read and review this book.

Just the type of book I really enjoy.Owing to being bombed out during WW2 May and her sisters need to decide what they will now do to survive. May takes up a position of housekeeper in a run down old farm in the middle of nowhere.

When things start to take a strange turn they need to find out who is ruining the farm's livelihood. Good story with a slightly different tale to tell which, personally, I felt fell a little flat in the middle. Saying that it was a good, easy read and look forward to the author's next book.

Good Second World War saga . After losing everything in the blitz life just gets harder when trying to report younger sisters. Working on a farm leads to a better life but is full of strife and maybe a new love. Good Book!

A great war time saga, a real pleasure to enjoy. Set in Devon with a story that could have been so true. I am hoping that this will be part of a series and if so I will be reading the books as I know I will enjoy them. 5 stars.

Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC

May Warren Huxford is certainly a force to be reckoned with. After being bombed out of the only home she has known after it’s flattened in the blitz she is forced to move from Exeter to the small village of Pippinswheel after she applied for a job as live in housekeeper.
Yo say that farmer George Beer got more than he bargained on is an understatement. I laughed out loud at the description of May laying down the law to grumpy George. Has she bitten off more than she can chew! When first she meets the land girls Bonnie who she feel a sense of responsibility, then Nessa who thinks she a step above others. Then problems come when the inspectors from the Ministry of Agriculture decide if the farm doesn’t take its share of growing vegetables to help war effort George will be forced out. Help may be at hand when she meets the rest of the Beer family who live on the neighbouring farm Higher Cleave. The story just flows making it difficult to put down.
Loved it.

I love these books they are so easy to read and such a joy. Although the subject matter isn’t something we should ever forget or take lightly but, this book did have its lighter sides and I did chuckle a few times when I was reading it. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

The story is set during the Second World War in Devon, and I absolutely enjoyed reading it.

May lived with her sisters in Exeter, but after the place where they lived is destroyed by a bomb, she leaves after being offered a job as a housekeeper on a farm in Devon.

But the farmer, isn’t interested in the farm, is a unhappy person, who is just interested in the orchard that makes his cider.

May finds herself getting everything sorted, she has the two land girls that are there on the farm to help her, or they will lose the farm.

She finds that it’s not easy even with the girls’ help, May faces struggles, not just from the farmer but also one of the land girls who goes against May.

A lovely story and I’m eager to see what happens next in the series.

I highly recommend this book.

Really enjoyed this story, set in Devon during the 2nd world war. May lived in Exeter and has to leave after her home is bombed. She gets a job as a housekeeper on a farm in Devon, the farmer is a grumpy man who isn’t interested in the farm only the orchard which produces his cider. May had to pull it all together with the help of 2 land girls or they risk losing the farm. There’s lots of struggles for may, including one of the land girls who fights against may. Great story and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Slightly farfetched at times but a pleasant and easy enough read for bedtime.

I found the main character likeable on one page and then bossy and know-it-all on the next page. The storyline was at times predictable and then in other chapters it took an unexpected turn.

I did feel it lacked some romantic gestures; the main character and Dan moved in together and then agreed to marry without even so much as seeming to kiss each other!

I was left with unanswered questions at the end of the book; what happened to Pearl? What happened to Nessa? What was the significance of the wildflower book and learning their names? What was in the locked room in the house? Perhaps there is more to follow?

A gentle story set during the second World War and set in Devon. Three girls lose their home, belongings and hated step-father in the blitz. May, the eldest, has to get a job to support them and applies for one to be housekeeper on a fairly remote farm. She finds grubby chaos with the owner, George, only concerned about his apples and the two Land Girls reluctantly doing their jobs. May pulls the house together, feeds them all, starts learning about farming and vegetable production and is, obviously, a very quick learner, ably helped by Dan, the neighbour's son. It's a quick and light read, May is a resolute young woman who finds happiness. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

I hadn't read Rosie Meddon book before but now she is on the list of authors for me to read everything she has written! Loved the book and finished it in two days which is quite the feat when you have a toddler! I love the genre and think the author did a great job of writing a believable and heartwarming tale. I must admit that she didn't follow a set pattern and just when I thought one character would reappear, they didn't etc which is a lovely mould to break out of. As this is a sister trilogy, I can't wait to see what happens to Clemmie and Pearl. My personal choice would be to have a bit more romance involved, we didn't even get a kiss between the two mains. My great thanks to Rosie, her publisher and Netgalley for allowing me a temporary copy in exchange for an honest review. **couldn't post to Goodreads as it isn't on there yet.
