The main character was kind of going through a third life crisis, reevaluating her life and where she’s at. Definitely a nice second chance story, with some growth of the main character, but overall she was a bit annoying to me. Her fiancé was also not a fun character to read about

I loved this story, it was a great take on a second chance romance, that honestly was written so well, diving back and forth between the present and the past.
Sam, her I could completely empathize with. Her heartache, her reasons for settling for a guy like Jack, and most of all an avoidance for a place that holds so many wonderful memories that it hurts so bad.
Wyatt, now here is a guy with more secrets than a spy. But his reasons for many of them are honorable, even if it doesnt seem that way to Sam.
They reconnected in such an organic way inspite of the obstacles between them. This is a first love that never died, but due to circumstance needed to be paused a while!
Sam's family is so brilliant and warm and welcoming - I loved them. Jack is a tool!

Sam’s life is going according to plan - almost. She’s set to marry her fiancé Jack in just a few months (but the wedding isn’t planned), she loves her job (but she might get fired), and she’s on her way to the beach for a weekend at her family’s summer house (where she experienced a painful teenage breakup that she never really got closure with). Sam is nervous so show Jack this lighter side of her family at the beach, and things are made even more awkward when she finds out that her first love, Wyatt, is staying next door at his family’s home at the same time. Sam feels as though she’s transported back in time the minute she sees him - will she be able to navigate both sides of herself and keep it all together?
This is the second novel I’ve read from this author, and I really enjoyed them both. I think I had a lot more in common with Nora in Nora Goes Off Script, so that one edged STNS out a little bit, but I would absolutely recommend this for anyone looking for a sweet beach read. It’s short, but I feel like it’s ended really well - not tied up too tightly but not lacking anything at the same time. I also really liked that we had dual POV between Sam and Wyatt, as well as a dual timeline. This is a great read to kick off summer!
Thank you to Netgalley, G.P. Putnam, and the author for my e-arc!

This was a quick and fun beach read. Sam and Wyatt had a horrid breakup as teens and Sam has since avoided her favorite place, the beach and her family’s beach house. She returns with her fiancé and runs into Wyatt. The book was quick, but I didn’t feel a huge pull into the story or the characters.

Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan
Sam and Wyatt had a bad break up when they were teenagers, and ever since, Sam does not like to go back to the place that reminds her of their relationship the most, her dad's home in Long Island. However, Sam heads back to that fateful place with her fiancé and low and behold, guess who she runs into. That's right, her childhood sweetheart, Wyatt, the one who broke her heart.
I really enjoyed the surfing scenes and the summer atmosphere! I can totally understand pining for someone after all those years, but I just wish we saw more connection between Sam and Wyatt in the past timeline. What was it that made them love each other so much? It would have been more convincing if there had been some sort of spark between Sam and Wyatt, such as a touch of the hand or a longing gaze between them. I want to swoon over a couple. It read a little bit YA because the relationship and the overall story did not go as deep as it potentially could have. The writing style was smooth and flowed nicely.
It was a nice, sweet story, and I recommend it to anyone seeking a quick, summer romance.
Thank you Netgalley and Penguin Group Putnam, GP Putnam's Sons for the ARC.

Same Time Next Summer is the ultimate summer read. I loved that this was an adorable romance, it also tackled some tough family issues. I really enjoyed getting to know Sam and coming to realize what she really wanted her life to look like instead of what she thought it should be.
I'll keep it short and sweet since there are a lot of layers to this book, but it's a quick read and would be easy to spoil if I say too much! This is definitely one to pack in your beach bag and read in your favorite vacation spot. And if you're not going on vacation, this sweet read will transport you to the beach.
Thank you Putnam Books and NetGalley for the eARC!

I loved this book. We all have a first love, the first person for whom we felt that all consuming feeling when it seems no one else could ever be as important. This book is so beautifully written, it brought back the bittersweet memories I have of being a teenager in love.
The story is about Samantha (Sam) and Wyatt. It’s told from a now and then perspective, we see how strongly they felt about each other as teenagers and again as adults despite Sam’s pending marriage.
I loved reading about the places on Long Island where they spent time, the beach descriptions were so detailed I felt like I was there. I highly recommended this book, 5 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed as in this review are completely my own.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! It was just what I needed. I loved the past romance and the friends come together it was so sweet and I can't wait to read more by Annabel Monaghan.

Sam has finally figured things out. She has a job she loves, a successful doctor who wants to marry her, and a beach house on Long Island that might be the perfect wedding venue. But as soon as Sam arrives on the island, she runs into her high school sweetheart...the one who broke her heart thirteen summers ago. Sam's chemistry with her old flame is undeniable, but will being around him risk everything she has worked so hard to build?
I read and loved Annabel Monaghan's debut novel last summer, so her follow-up was one of my most-anticipated reads this season, and it did not disappoint! Monaghan nails the second-chance romance trope: Wyatt is a dreamboat guitar player who still hold a candle for Sam, and Sam's fiance, Jack, is the perfect Hallmark movie 'villain': he is uptight, he only reads pretentious literature, and he won't stop telling everyone to wear sunscreen! Monaghan's second novel also includes stellar side characters. Sam's grandparents are a great source of comic relief throughout the book and Gracie is a gem.
This novel is well-executed and witty. I don't know why more bookstagrammers aren't raving about this author. Fans of Hallmark movies and closed door romance should read this book. It is perfect for the beach!
Thank you @netgalley and @penguinrandomhouse for my early e-galley!

I went into this one expecting to love this one just as much if not more than Nora Goes Off Script. I tried multiple times to read this one, but it didn't hold my attention and my mind was drifting elsewhere. I'm giving this one three stars for the simple fact that I don't think it's the story itself, and I am choosing to listen on audio. I will share my review on IG @storybookcorner once my Libby hold comes in from the library. I look forward to listening to this one.

Same Time Next Summer ☀️
This book is perfect for anyone who doesn’t have it all figured out quite yet. Sam is getting married to Jack; but doesn’t really have an interest in wedding planning. She’s recently made a big mistake at work and she’s still trying to understand the consequences.
They go to her family’s beach house out in Long Island and she’s worried over Jack’s reaction. He likes neatness and order and her family is full of artists and love to collect things. Once she arrives, she finds out Wyatt is next door; he was her first love and it ended terribly. Sam has spent a lot of time thinking about him over the years after they lost contact. She’s with Jack now; she can’t think about Wyatt.
Wyatt is back in LI for the week and he’s now a big shot music writer in Los Angeles. But funny how being home reminds you of when you’re 17, and your first love. The book flashes back to the summer they got together and the present day. It’s clear Sam and Jack don’t have much in common and that Wyatt is her true love. I will say the driving event of their breakup was a little bit of a letdown and I had an alternate plot (that didn’t happen) that would have stirred up more drama. All in all, I thought it was a cute and fast book perfect for the beach.
Many thanks to @putnambooks and @annabelmonaghan for my gifted copy.

Ooh the finest of the fine - wish I had been on the beach when I read this. Much of the book takes place in Long Island, NY and that just upped the ante for me - familiar and relatable. Love the now and then of the telling - it added sense and maturity to what might otherwise have been syrupy and sophomoric. Can you feel the heat? Can you feel the burn? Can you feel the pain? Yeah, I could and that is really good writing.
The humor is so perfect - reading the same sex scene six times and wondering about the position of body parts and how many hands are there groping around - you had to be there - you can’t help but snort. But the heartbreak and angst were equally gripping and hollowing - really good writing.
Love the characters, especially the ones who just had to throw in their whatever’s. Loved Sam and her ability to disassemble and reassemble and get lost and then found. So in love with Wyatt and what is wrong SamIam - open your eyes, figure it out - we all have.
Annabel Monaghan is going to the top of my list. Thank you G.P Putnam’s Sons and NetGalley for a copy.

This was an enjoyable book. However I didn’t feel the connection as heavily as I was hoping to between the two MC.

I loved Nora Goes off Script. This book didn’t land in the same way. The reader is rooting for Sam and Wyatt, but there’s a lot of backstory. I wanted more present. Jack was so dull- I think it would have been interesting if it was more of a triangle. It was a fun summer read.

Another hit from Annabel Monaghan! Sam and Wyatt found a place in my heart almost immediately. The characters are so fleshed out and the beach house so real that I was right there along with them. Just a story full of perfectly imperfect people who made mistakes and are living with them.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy. This was such a sweet coming home book. I liked that the main character had to really take a look at herself and push herself out of her comfort zone to decide what was important to her.

I was excited to read Same Time Next Summer because it has a seaside/beach setting and one of my favorite tropes, second chance romance. It sounded like a perfect summer read. I liked the book, but I didn't love it. The second chance romance was underwhelming, and there was not much relationship growth. Because the book is mostly written from Sam's POV, we don't get to know what Wyatt feels or thinks. So at times, it felt like he wasn't interested in rekindling his relationship with Sam. I enjoyed reading chapters from the past when Sam and Wyatt were teenagers. They were more romantic than the present timeline. I recommend this Same Time Next Summer to those who enjoy low angst, closed-door romance.

I thoroughly enjoyed Annabel Monaghan's latest book, SAME TIME NEXT SUMMER. Once again, Monaghan skillfully weaves together captivating romantic tales set in charming locations. In this new story, Sam Holloway and her fiancé embark on a trip to her family's beach house on Long Island to make arrangements for their upcoming wedding. Unexpectedly, Sam's former high school flame, who now resides in Los Angeles, returns to town for a local music festival. The combination of the picturesque setting, memorable characters, and the beautifully crafted storyline makes this book a wonderful choice for a summer vacation read!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I was very excited to get a copy of Annabel Monaghan’s newest novel because her debut Nora Goes Off Script was one of my favorites from 2022. This is the story of Sam and Wyatt who grew up going to neighboring beach houses on Long Island. They thought their summer romance would turn into a lifelong love until one event changed everything. Flash forward to when they’re thirty years old and Sam returns to the beach with her fiancé Jack to check out wedding venues. You guessed it…Wyatt just happens to be visiting at the same time. Reconnecting with Wyatt makes Sam reevaluate everything about her life as she relives those teenage summer memories.
This was a quick read that I enjoyed but probably won’t really remember. It was well written and I liked the characters but the storyline just seemed too cliche. It didn’t seem to have the same zing as Nora did. It would still make for a great beach read if you’re looking for something light and fun. This hardly had any language but then she would throw in a random f bomb here and there (why?🤷🏼♀️), mild steam.

Sam and Wyatt had a terrible breakup as teens. Sam's avoided her favorite place since, her family's beach house. She only stays a few days a year and refuses to stay for a longer duration. She's also refused to bring her fiancé, Jack along, until now. But Wyatt unexpectedly shows up and Sam isn't sure she can handle the situation.
