Thank you to NetGalley for providing a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. If I could sum this book up with a quote, it would be "If you love something, set it free and if it comes back, it's meant to be." This is a great summer/pool/beach read well, because it takes place mostly on Long Island where Sam and Wyatt spent their summers as kids. Now, they're grown adults seeing each other for the first time since they were teenagers. Mix together salt air, sand & long-lost loves and it will be a fun time!

Same Time Next Summer ☀️

This writing felt so similar to Emily Henry. It felt so good to get lost in a book. Like that forget your reading, what time is it, not tracking the pages you read, type of reading. IYKYK.

I loved Sam & Wyatt. They were so young and in love and what happened was so unfair and heartbreaking. They are really messy, flawed and lacked self awareness at times. But they were also authentic, developed, accepting, loving and passionate.

I feel like this is one of those books that people will have qualms about (emotional cheating). But sometimes fluffy romances don’t cut it for me, bc it’s not messy and lacks self growth or self actualization to help the relationship.

So I really liked it and I don’t think everyone will, but I’m recommending it anyways!

Ty for the advanced readers copy,

Annabel Monaghan has done it again - Same Time Next Summer is the perfect beach read that will make you smile and think about your own memories and experiences with falling in love and carefree summers. Sam and her straight laced, buttoned up fiancè are headed to the beach town that she grew up in to check out wedding venues when they run into her ex and first love Wyatt. Told in alternating timelines we get to see how Wyatt and Sam fell in love long ago and what happens now.

This is the perfect read for this summer! Do not miss it. Ideally read on your favorite beach.

Thank you to Netgalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, G.P. Putnam's Sons for the ARC - Same Time Next Summer is out now!

• friends to lovers/second chance romance
• dual timelines

This is just a perfect summer read! Getting to see the relationship then and now, relatable characters, beach setting... If you liked Every Summer After, you'll enjoy this one too!

I loved this book. My favorite kind of story is one that is told from dual timelines and dual perspectives. The summer romance of Sam and Wyatt is one we feel like we all have had. That young love that grips you and rips you up but the one you can't forget.

I found Sam extremely relatable and her struggle to be honest with herself and what's she wants out of her life.

What I love Annabel Monaghan is her element of almost realistic fantasy. We all want the one that got away to be pining over us for years and writing songs about us.

This book made me smile.

This book! Instant new favorite and one I will definitely be coming back to time and again. Childhood friends to lovers just hits different and gets me all in my feels. I pretty much read this book in one sitting. It’s the perfect summer beach read!

I loved the roller coaster ride of emotions that Sam and Wyatt took me on. Getting to experience them growing up together each summer and falling in love made my heart burst! I couldn’t have imagined what would tear them apart and it broke my heart.

It was interesting to see how their breakup influenced the people they became especially Sam. I really enjoyed her growth as a character and how she slowly uncovered the uninhibited, carefree person she truly was at heart. Wyatt is the stuff book boyfriend dreams are made of. To me it was always clear that he was a goner for Sam! I highly recommend this super comforting, angsty read!

Thank you to Putnam for an advanced copy. My thoughts are my own.

VERDICT Monaghan (Nora Goes Off Script) crafts a satisfying beach romance with former childhood loves getting a second chance at happily ever after.

I loved the author's first book, Nora Goes Off Script, so I couldn't wait to read this one. I found it mildly disappointing. It felt very similar to many other second chance romances. The relationship between Sam and Wyatt felt a bit unrealistic to me. The book moved slowly but then the ending felt rushed to me.

This was a very cute book about an engaged woman who sees her first love that broke her heart after 14 years but begins to question their story. I’m all here for summary type of romances so I knew this book was it for me. Monaghan is a great writer with the way she makes her story flow. Though I do have to say that the story felt very generic and kind of similar to Every Summer After but this one was better. I liked the alternating timeline as you can see a lot of growth throughout the povs. The pacing was great and this is also a pretty short book (I believe less than 300). Also, I loved the beach setting as it gives such a calming effect to the story.

Sam is the main character in the story who likes to live a perfectionist life. I love seeing her development and learning everything about her. She developed a lot throughout the book which I was happy to see. Then there’s Wyatt who was also well-written and I enjoyed reading his perspective of what happened long ago. Both of the MCs were very relatable and I enjoyed that fact. There aren’t many side characters that were involved with the story as the main focus is on Sam and Wyatt. It’s a very light romance story with friends to lovers, second chance, and slow-burn romance.

The ending was well done and I loved how the characters ended up. I didn’t read Nora Goes Off Script so I’m not sure how that story goes and how it involves this book but I really enjoyed this story. It’s a very light, casual read that you would read on a sunny day, kind of like an Emily Henry book. I do recommend checking it out especially if you love Every Summer After and Happy Place.

Short synopsis: Sam goes to visit her family lake house with her fiancé Jack, when she runs into her childhood flame Wyatt.

My thoughts: I’m not a huge fan of the love triangle trope, but this one was just done right. Jack wasn’t terrible, I’m fact he was a pretty great guy just not for Sam.

I loved the flashback chapters so we could see how the relationship between Sam and Wyatt grew, and why it deteriorated. I loved how Sam and Wyatt pushed each other to be their true authentic selves, and called each other out when they were in the wrong.

Read if you love:
- Lake house settings
- Young love
- Second chance romance
- Flashback chapters
- Dual POV

Thank you so much Putnam and PRHAudio for copies of this book! Publication date was June 6, 2023.

Cute story that reminds you of the rush and joy of your first love. The changing timelines from present day to past day also make the story telling interesting.

Annabel Monaghan does it again! I loved her debut Nora Goes Off Script and this book is another fun summer romance. The story unfolds in time between younger Sam and Wyatt, the charming boy next door at their Long Island beach house and current day Sam and Wyatt. The story is also told from their points of view. I always enjoy this format to get a better sense of each character. I loved the setting from their beach house and the treehouse. This is also a story of Sam and Wyatt figuring out who they are and what they want from life. Sam is engaged to Jack and sort of loses herself in that relationship. Thank you to NetGalley and to G.P. Putnam and Sons for an e-copy. Same Time Next Summer is available now.

Sam and Wyatt were the best of friends during their years spent on the beach each summer. They grew up together and eventually fell in love. It's only when a unforeseen event happens that their love is halted, never to return to how it once was. Now, several years later, Sam is a completely changed woman and is returning to her summer beach home with her fiancé to plan their perfect wedding. Who cares that Wyatt is back at his families beach house next door and she hasn't seen him since he totally ghosted her? It's all going to be fine, right?

This is the PERFECT summer read. This is the kind of book that deserves to be read with some waves crashing in the background. I am so happy to get approved for this book. It has every thing that you want in a summer romance; tons of beach scenes where I could literally feel the sunshine on my shoulders, a woman coming into her own after hiding herself away for too many years, and a second chance romance that turns out just so perfectly in the end. I loved the writing in the book so much. I felt like I knew the characters personally, and I enjoyed every second of this fantastic summer read. I will be recommending this to all my friends for their beach read this summer.

Despite its unimaginative title, Same Time Next Summer is a delightful summer read about family, independence, and second chances. The descriptive detail creates a strong sense of living on the water in Long Island, and the characters were fully formed. It provides just what I crave from a beach read: romance, real relationships, and a summer escape.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for providing me with an advance copy of this book. My review is voluntary and reflects my honest opinion.

Annabel Monaghan has officially added her name to the beach read queens list. (I don't know where this list is, but there's got to be one somewhere, right?!)

Last summer, Nora Goes Off Script was one of my favorite reads. That same charm and wit has returned in Monaghan's latest release, Same Time Next Summer.

Sam has moved on from her summer love. So what if she and Wyatt have known each other since they were 5? He ghosted her during her senior year of high school, and she hasn't seen him since. Everything she's learned in the last twelve years revolves around making safe, predictable choices. Her job, her life perspective, even her fiance, Jack, are all safe, reliable choices. But when Sam's mom convinces the engaged couple to return to the beach house where Sam lost herself all those years ago, Sam finds herself wondering if closing herself off was really the safest choice. Being at the beach makes her see careful Jack in a new light, and it isn't flattering.

This novel is just as fun and charming as Nora Goes Off Script, with another unforgettable cast and setting. Sam and her family are well-developed characters and the exact crew of people you'd want to have a dinner party with. They are funny, flawed, and relatable, and I want even more time with them. Fingers crossed for a Travis and Hugh spinoff!

The Long Island beach that was Sam's summer home for most of her childhood makes for a gorgeous setting. Monaghan shows how timeless love stories can be, especially at the beach. Watching Sam and Wyatt grow up there made Sam's return with someone else even more poignant.

Although there is a romance in this book, the real love story is Sam's journey back to herself. Watching this young woman unfurl from the cocoon she put herself in all those years ago is beautiful.

It was wonderful to see both healthy and toxic family dynamics represented, and how those perceived differences can sow discord among friends.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Penguin Group/Putnam for an e-ARC such that I could share my honest opinion.

I found this to be an enjoyable read. Samantha and Wyatt were neighbors at their summer beach houses. They started as friends then that became more. Suddenly Wyatt's world was turned upside down and he couldn't be with Sam. Sam spirals for a bit but finds her footing and begins living carefully. She now has a steady, predictable job and fiance, Jack. Her mom wants her to come to the beach (which she hasn't done with Jack) and look at a venue there. Jack decides to play along and they go. Lo and behold, Wyatt happens to be back at the beach as well. As you can probably figure out, this causes some issues for Sam. I like how the story is told from present time and the past throughout. Highly recommend reading this one to see how everything spools out.

I feel like this is a great summer read - beach or pool. You'll get lost in it and won't be able to put it down.

Sam grew up spending every summer in their family's beach house. The Pope family was there next door, and Wyatt was around as long as she could remember. A constant of her childhood summer. When they become teens, their friendship turns to romance and they seem meant to be together forever. But when something happens that wrecks havoc on both their families, they leave for home wondering where they stand. And then things take a turn and they don't speak for years.

Fast forward to Sam returning to visit her family at the beach house with Jack, her fiance, planning her wedding. Side note: I didn't really care much for Jack from the get go.

When Sam realizes Wyatt is next door at his family's place for the summer, it rocks her world a bit. Sam starts to question everything in her life from her job, to her wedding, to the fact that she hasn't been to the beach house for longer than a day or two in years. And she finds how much she misses the family, the beach house, and possibly even Wyatt.

This was a great second chance romance and the setting was perfection. I could smell the beach while I read it!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for an ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Sam is engaged to Jack... but what happens when she reunites with high school sweetheart Wyatt?

Just like last summer's hit, Nora Goes Off Script (4 stars), the author has again written a quick romance perfect for the lazy days of summer! Yes, the plot and ending were predictable and a bit Hallmark-esque but who cares because the path there was fun and enjoyable. I did, however, find it difficult to believe there wasn't any social media "stalking" over the years while they were apart haha. If you love sweet, tender, second-chance romances, then be sure to add this to your tote bag when you hit the beach.

Lastly, since Nora's plotline was a bit more unique and humorous AND there was more sizzle between the two main characters, it remains my favorite by this author.

Read it. Loved it. Won't stop recommending it.
I adored Annabel Monaghan's previous novel, Nora Goes Off Script, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy of Same Time Next Summer. To me, this new release is the ideal beach read because it captures the nostalgia of summer vacation memories, there's some family drama, a cast of well-developed characters, and the tantalizing hope of a second chance.
The writing style is engaging, and the setting is fabulous (I need that treehouse in my life)!
Romance fans who gravitate toward stories about second chances, and fresh starts and enjoy a feel-good conclusion will blow through this one quickly.
