I adored Nora Goes Off Script, so I was delighted to get a chance to read Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan. She's able to write charming rom coms, and the chemistry between Sam and Wyatt is sizzling. I'll look forward to reading more from this author.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts are my own.

This book was a beautiful exploration of the intensity of first love, and how loss and grief can sometimes lead us astray. Equal parts women's fiction and romance, Same Time Next Summer takes the reader on a journey through present and past through the use of expertly woven dual timelines. We see Sam fall in love, fall apart, and settle for a life that, ultimately, proves too small for her. Fourteen years after a breakup that decimated her, she returns to the beach to plan her wedding--only to encounter the boy that broke her heart all those years ago. As the magic of the ocean (which is so evocatively rendered that it amounts to its own character), she begins to question the choices she's made in her bid to protect her heart. I found her journey of self-(re)discovery so moving and genuine, and couldn't stop turning pages. This is a must-read for anyone who's ever loved and lost and, as a result, wondered if it's possible too play it a little *too* safe.

I literally love reading all of her books. You just fall in love with her writing. She knows what she is doing when she writes her book. And she wrote another emotional book with Same Time Next Summer.
Sam has always been a person with a plan no matter what. It doesn't mean she always been like this, it's just easier to do. Too bad that her ex aka her first love doesn't get the memo. It was unexpected to see her ex again after so many years. And it's more surprising that her family still speaks to him even more. Sam didn't expected to feel so much when she see him or learn more of the truth, but she is determined to hide her feelings and keep going as usual. Too bad that life doesn't live with plains, it's always chaotic. Something that Sam is going to learn when her wedding plans comes into full motion.
She begins to question everything in her life. She wonders how long she truly hidden herself. How much is she willing to lose herself? It's something that Same begins to thinks about as she begins to speak to her ex again. She never knew how much she missed him until today, and how much pain she went through. It makes her wonder if she can do it again as she begins to rediscover herself.

Same Time Next Summer gave me all the nostalgic Summertime, first love feels. Sam is getting married to a doctor and tours a wedding venue near her family's Long Island beach house. She sees her first love, Wyatt, and gets a second chance. But she has a decision to make-her first love or Mr. Perfect Doctor?

I absolutely ate this book up. I think a lot of us would love to feel those first-love butterflies again, and this book allowed me to do that.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

Sam and her fiancée Jack are heading to her family’s house in Long Island for a few days. She doesn’t expect to run into her ex, Wyatt, who broke her heart years ago. She quickly starts to realize the differences in her new life versus her old life, and she can’t help but think what would happen if she’d taken a different path.

I really loved Annabel Monaghan’s last book, Nora Goes Off Script, so I was excited to read her next book. Although this didn’t excite me quite as much, I still enjoyed Same Time Next Summer. I didn’t love the back story involving the parents, but the story of childhood love and what could be was really sweet. I liked Sam’s development from feeling stuck to finding herself again, no matter which way her life leads. I look forward to reading more from Monaghan!

Thank you to NetGalley and GP Putnam for an advanced copy of this book.

This book was cute, but I preferred her last novel, Nora Goes Off Script. It was a familiar story, and didn't stand out as something new and exciting.

Same Time Next Summer is another one of those books about first love that makes you just absolutely ache if that was your experience. It's beautiful. It's painful.

Sam is engaged to be married and heads back to their summer house where she runs into Wyatt, her first love and the one that walked away and broke her heart. I will read books like this forever, and I loved it. Give me a man that has been helplessly in love with his first love for his entire life and you will find me sitting and reading ravenously.

This book was written for you if:
1) You loved Every Summer After or Love and Other Words
2) You like Second Chance Romance that also is the rediscovery of self-love and acceptance
3) You want beachy, first love, summer feelings

Same Time Next Summer is an easy, fun romance that puts you in the right mood for summer. I enjoyed it a lot and will be checking out Annabel Monaghan's other books after this one!

This was a perfect beach read with little substance and a cute romance. I loved the teenage flashbacks and what we got from Wyatt during those times. I wish we had more of that. Sam could get really frustrating but FMC in light romances normally do. A solid summer, beach read.

A quick book to binge while laying on a beach somewhere! If you love "first love" and summer nostalgia, this is the book for you!

Loved this one, especially the nostalgia of first love. There’s something special about first love at 17 and it’s up to Sam to decide what love is real and what she really wants out of her life. Monaghan is quickly becoming one of my must read authors! Can’t wait for her next one!

Annabel Monaghan is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. While I didn’t enjoy this story as much as her debut story… it was still super entertaining and immersive. I loved the beach house and the treehouse.

Thank you to NetGalley for 'Same Time Next Summer' by Annabel Monaghan!

Same Time Next Summer, was such a summery-feel-good novel. I couldn't put this one down.

For me, this was very reminiscent of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty'. It gave the same feeling of summertime coziness, and I was rooting for Sam throughout the entire novel.

Throughout this read, we get to watch Sam's growth within herself, allowing herself to opening up to new opportunities that in her past time scared her. And finding her true happiness. I felt this novel was very relatable, and highly recommend reading! Annabelle Monaghan is now a new auto-buy author for me, looking forward to her next novel!

This is a sweet getting-back-together-with-your-almost-was story that fortunately avoids the kind of ick factor that's often seen in these sorts of stories in the movies. The story is sweet, simple and satisfying.

I quite enjoyed this as a second chance romance and I think Annabel Monaghan has a real knack for writing it and writing it well! This was even more polished and lovely than her debut novel.

4.5 rating.

This book gets bonus points for being POV. I always enjoy getting both perspectives.

The characters are lovable and have growth throughout. Not jus the two mc, but side characters as well.

I liked how the author inserted flashbacks into the story to show how the relationship grew over time. The storyline is predictable, but I do enjoy the way this author can tell a story. The elements to make it a great story were all there from start to finish. There are a few parts of the story I wish the author had not written in, but in order for the story to work the way it did I can see why it was written that way.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

My absolute favorite romance novel of 2023! A love triangle set on the beaches of the Northeast. Loveable flawed characters, a gorgeous setting and real life decisions to be made. Loved it and was sad when it was over!

There are 5 star books that earn that ranking because they are beautifully written, and this book is. There are 5 star books ranked that way because they are so fun. Again, this book meets the criteria. But rarely do I come across a book that feels so in tune with my own soul that, if I didn’t know any better, I would say the author reached into my heart and plucked a piece of it.

I believe in soulmates, soul friends, and now soul books. Annabel Monaghan has managed to write a story that I resonated with so closely that it continues to move me months after finishing.
