This was my first time reading something by this author. I must say this story was okay. It sounded like something I've read before, so I wasn't that impressed. I like that there was dyslexia representation. That's a disability you don't always see in books, so that was great to see in a character. I also liked the setting. It's set on Long Island NY at a family beach house, which makes for a great summer read. This was quick and fast paced, which is always a plus. I found the characters unlikeable. I didn't really connect or care for them, but yet I still wanted to read about them. Not sure how that happened. I still was annoyed by Sam's immaturity. She is in her 30's, yet she reads like a teen. Wyatt was just okay. Not book boyfriend worthy.

The romance in this just didn't do it for me. This is a childhood friends to lovers second chance romance that wasn't executed right. I found certain aspects of the past teenage summers cute, but as adults I wasn't rooting for them. I think it was hard for me to see a romance between them because for about 75% of the book Sam was engaged. Then their time together felt rushed and not well fleshed out. The main thing I look for in this trope is the cute moments that make you swoon and want them together, but I didn't get that. Matter of fact, I didn't care if Sam and Wyatt got together, so that says a lot.

Overall, I wasn't wowed by this, but enjoyed my time here. I would recommend to anyone looking for something that's light on romance, quick, and as a summer read.

Sam has a seemingly perfect life. She has the perfect fiance, a great job in Manhattan, and she’s about to embark on planning her dream wedding. But something feels off. So when she sees Wyatt, the guy who broke her heart when she was 17, she’s afraid old feelings may start coming back. Now she’s faced with an impossible choice.

If you read Annabel Monoghan’s debut novel Nora Goes Off Script last year, she probably got added as an auto-buy author. It was a fantastic debut and I couldn’t wait to read what she wrote next. Her sophomore book was cute and reminded me a bit of The Summer I Turned Pretty, but a little more grown up! I really enjoyed the dual POV with flashbacks to the past, it helped to know Sam and Wyatt’s time together! Their chemistry was undeniable and it perfectly captured the feeling of your first love. I related to Sam quite a bit in this novel as I ended up reconnecting with my highschool love (whom I later married) so I enjoyed reading this one!

There is something about first love, the way it pulls you in, that's so enchanting. In Same Time Next Summer, Annabel Monaghan spins a tale about Sam, a woman who seemingly has it all together (including a fabulous fiancee), and her summer encounter with the man she was in love with years ago.

This story pulled me in and really took off - I was immediately rooting for Sam and Wyatt and the tension was out of this world. Annabel Monaghan has easily put herself in class with some of the best American summer writers. If you love Elin Hildebrand or Emily Henry, I highly recommend you check her out.

A perfect summer read brimming with nostalgia! A really enjoyable, pleasant beach read with characters you root for to get together. The setting was lovely and vivid, and the writing was clever and easy to read.

I absolutely loved this second-chance romance. Sam and her fiancé are visiting her family in Long Island and preparing for their wedding. She has no doubts about marrying Jack until she finds out that her ex-boyfriend from when she was seventeen is also back in town. Wyatt broke her heart 14 years ago, and for someone who is happily engaged, Sam is starting to wonder if she really wants to be with Jack. She's faced with a choice: "perfect" life with Jack or risking everything for a second chance with Wyatt, her first love. This book was adorable and I loved the dynamic between Sam and Wyatt. My only complaint is that I wish we would have gotten a glimpse into their future, instead of just seeing them talk about it.

Annabel Monaghan is now an auto read/purchase author for me. Loved her first book, and there was no sophomore slump with this novel. A quick, easy read that moved at a quick pace. Loved it!

I’ve been in a slump for a couple months and this seems to have snapped me out of it. I loved Sam’s story, especially part 2. I felt the first part was disorganized and I had a hard time getting hooked. But at about 40% I couldn’t put the book down, I loved it.

DNF I lost interest after 3% into the book.

Same Time Next Summer is a fun easy beach read that I enjoyed. Monaghan writes an interesting story that had a twist that I did not see coming.

Sam and Wyatt grew up together spending every summer together at their respective beach homes. The two develop a close friendship that turns in to a first love but then suddenly everything unravels.

I enjoyed Sam's family and their quirkiness. I wanted to yell at Sam to ditch the fiance.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is such a good book! The ultimate beach read and I loved the characters. This was my first book by this author and it definitely won’t be my last!

She has a fiancé and runs into her ex-boyfriend at the beach, how I love when an ex shows up at just the right moment to make the MC question everything in her current relationship.

LOVED THIS! Such a good beach read!

Sam lives her life by the book - she has the perfect job, perfect fiancé, and the perfect apartment in NYC - a life that she’s crafted after dealing with life-changing heartbreak in her teenage years. When Sam unexpectedly loses it at her job, she finds herself with a week of unexpected vacation time at her parents beach house, right next door to the love of her life, Wyatt’s, house.

Wyatt appears back into Sam’s life as quickly as he left it. After a summer romance that changed his life, Wyatt abandoned Sam to work through his feelings when his family fell apart.

With Wyatt living next door to Sam for the first time in 10 years - the two ex-lovers find themselves drawn together over and over again and tension lingers for Sam as she’s asked to plan her wedding - is she ready? Or is it possible that after all these years she’s still been waiting for Wyatt.

Same Time Next Summer is equally as lovely as Annabel Monaghan’s first try, Nora Goes Off Script. Romantic and insightful - Same Time Next Summer captures the essence of falling in love for the first time and the heartbreak and questions that come after. This NEEDS to be on your summer reading list.

Thank you to PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, Annabel Monaghan and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I loved that this book made me feel like it was summertime. I also love a good second chance romance. It was very easy to read and the characters were so loveable. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

I absolutely loved Nora Goes Off Script so I was super excited for this one. It was an easy enjoyable read but it ultimately wasn’t among my favorites. It reminded me of Every Summer After but had less chemistry and I felt less invested. Overall, it was fine but not a standout.

The author of 2022's hit romance, Nora Goes Off Script, is back with her sophomore novel and it's NOT a sophomore slump! Same Time Next Summer is a second chance love story featuring Sam, who is engaged to her "perfect on paper" doctor fiance (Jack). When Sam and Jack visit her family's Long Island beach house to look at wedding venues, Sam's childhood love who broke her heart (Wyatt) is at his family's house next door. This story captures the best parts of young love in spades...and some of the warts. I got Joey and Dawson from Dawson's Creek AND Sweet Home Alabama vibes. The quirky, artsy family beach house is the perfect summer setting...comfortable and nostalgic. There's a great set of grandparents with no filter and the story doesn't suffer from overwhelming banter (like Emily Henry's books do for me).

This book was so cute!! I absolutely loved the beachy summer setting and the storyline. Sam and Wyatt were such sweet characters to follow and I loved reading about their love.

This book was very reminiscent of “Love and Other Words” and “Every Summer After” but it still did its own thing and stood apart from the others. I thought there were so many sweet moments in this book as well as some very hard to read and heartbreaking ones.

Overall, this was an amazing story to me that had me giggling and smiling the entire time and I found myself wanting to read it whenever I could. It wasn’t a perfect book for me, and I wish the end could’ve drawn out longer, but it was still such a great way to end my summer.

Sam’s life is going exactly as she planned. She has a great job, and she’ll be married soon to a handsome doctor. But the cracks start to show when the two of them visit her family’s Long Island beach house to tour a nearby wedding venue and accidentally run into Wyatt, the boy who broke Sam’s heart when she was 17. Though they haven’t spoken in 14 years, Sam can’t get memories of Wyatt out of her mind, and she begins to realize that the life she has now wasn’t always what she wanted. When it’s finally revealed to Sam what happened all those years ago that ended her relationship with Wyatt, she has to grapple with the feelings that never entirely faded.

The story flashes back and forth between the past and present so that we get Sam’s young adult perspective as well as her adult perspective. The sense of nostalgia is strong in the story, and I felt that I could truly see the beach house. Though the story was a quick and fun read, I didn’t feel that the story contained a lot of depth. The plot was predictable, and Wyatt’s “secret” fame felt a little too cliché. I did like the message about staying true to oneself and not changing to fit the mold that her fiancé wanted. I thought the story was cute, but I don’t suspect it’s a story that will stick with me.

In a book about second chance love, I want the story of the couple’s breakup to been one that made sense at the time but isn’t so bad that they don’t make sense together now. The reason this couple broke up as teenagers not only was something I could never predict but it made sense as a reason they broke up.

Sam is planning her wedding to her very safe fiancée. He’s not a bad guy and she does seem to love him. She likes how predictable he is. It’s taken Sam a long time to get to this point in her life. She’s found balance.
She doesn’t really look forward to going back to her family’s beach house in Long Island but she’s promised them she’ll check out a potential wedding venue there.

Sam might claim that she just doesn’t want to be around her parents in vacation mode but it’s more than that. Sam hasn’t spent a summer there with her family since she was a teenager and her and Wyatt broke up.

Sam is definitely not expecting to run into Wyatt when she goes to see her parents though. But there he is. Still hanging out in their old haunts and playing his guitar. Still surfing. He’s acting a lot like the old Wyatt, the way he was before he broke her heart.

Wyatt hurt Sam really badly back then. He wasn’t just her first boyfriend, he was her best friend. Losing Wyatt through Sam’s young life out of balance.

Here’s the thing…I’m not 100% sure I was rooting for Wyatt to get Sam back in the present day. He really hurt her in the past.

In a second chance love story, I not only want the original breakup to have made sense but I also want to think they can get past it in the present day. While I understand their breakup in the past, I’m not sure Wyatt did enough to warrant a second chance, I’m not saying whether they get back together I am only saying I wasn’t 100% sure I was rooting for him.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author. I enjoyed both but I’m giving Nora Goes off Script the upper hand. I look forward to seeing what the author will write next.

I got an early ebook edition of this book from NetGalley. Thank you!

Sam and Jack are about to get married, but Sam’s parents want her to get married in Long Island. Sam and Jack head to the beach, mostly just to appease her parents with no real intention to get married there. While there, Sam comes face to face with her first love, Wyatt, and relives their last summer together when they were 16.

The writing was good in this, but I’m not a huge fan of second chance romances like this. It seems a little strange to me that a 30 year old would still be pining after someone they dated for a summer at 16 - especially being in a four year relationship about to get married. Sam’s job description is also kind of weird to me. She’s in HR, and has risked getting fired because she suggested a flash mob as a team building exercise? I don’t get it. I wasn’t a huge fan on the romance, but it is a nice cheesy romcom if you’re in the mood for that.

Do you seek out beach reads in summer months?⁣

Y’all this book completely surprised me — I started the audio (thank you @prhaudio for the gifted copy) and didn’t stop listening until I finished the book! It was such a perfect beach read. Swoony, summery, and just a slow paced but entertaining love story by the ocean. I had major Dawson’s Creek, Every Summer After, and Love & Other Words vibes with the dual timeline and young love/second chance romance. So good!⁣

Same Time Next Summer comes out TUESDAY!! Definitely check it out for a stellar 2023 beach read!
